CAYOM YEAR 3 - PART I - MOVIE SUBMISSION

Recommended Posts

This is the thread to submit films for Year 3 of CAYOM 3.0! The release calendar is below. It's pre-filled with the specified films from the Advance Schedule Thread, but you will still need to make posts for those movies with details about them. You can also submit your fillers here. Note that, unless the film was a tentpole that was specified in the Advance Schedule Thread (and thus is already listed here), you are not allowed to post movies in this thread until they are completed - with full cast and release info and however complete a plot summary you plan on giving them. Keep in mind that directors are limited to one major film or two small films a year and that actors should be limited to a realistic number of projects as well.

To submit a film, make a post in this thread including the relevant information.

Required info includes:

Title:

Director:

Genre:

Release Date:

Major Cast:

Theater Count:

MPAA Rating:

Runtime:

Production Budget:

Plot Summary: (Can be as short or detailed as you wish)

If you do not have all of this information finalized, you should not post the film in this thread until you do. Films posted without all this info will not be added to the release calendar in this first post.

You can also optionally include other relevant information like producers, composers, the name of the releasing studio (if you are using your own fictional studios), special formats for release (like IMAX or 3D), even custom taglines or posters if you wish. None of this is required to post your film and it can be added after you first post if you so choose.

Limited releases are allowed, and they can expand into additional theaters on a week-by-week basis. You will need to specify when the film expands and how many theaters it goes into each week, up until the final expansion that is the widest it will go.

I've included some typical midweek release dates around holidays and such. If you want to release a movie on a weekday in some other week, go right ahead and just specify it in the post for that movie. I'll add that day to the release calendar.

This post will be updated regularly with new additions. If available, you can click on the title of a film in the release calendar to go straight to its post.

Plot:

Spoiler

The film opens in the year 2017, we see radio waves from deep space being picked up by scientists. The scientists are lead by Patrick Anderson who has worked his whole life to prove alien life exists. These radio waves prove that alien life exists out in space. Patrick fearing the worst, campaigns with scientists for the world’s countries to form a joint global coalition to protect the earth if in the future alien life attacks. After two years, the Earth Defense Force, a unified multinational military organization sponsored by nearly every country, is established in case the aliens prove to be hostile. We learn more about the Earth Defense Force, which is named EDF. It has three basic divisions. Ranger Teams, which are on the ground highly skilled soldiers. Wing Divers, which are an all female aerial fighting unit. They use highly advanced jetbacks to fly. The last one is the Air Raiders, which a scouts who either operate inside giant 250 foot tall robots or are on the ground lightly armed soldiers who call in airstrikes. All groups are supplied with the latest weapons and equipment, and have hundreds of thousands of soldiers stationed on every continent. Despite this most people and politicians remain hesitant in calling EDF a success since since alien life still hasn’t been proven to be a threat or menace.

During this time, we learn about several soldiers within EDF. They are all stationed in Chicago, which serves are the U.S headquarters for the EDF. They are all under the direction of Patrick. There is Ronald who is a Ranger. He is from England and after struggling to find a job decided to volunteer to be part of EDF. He isn’t the most skilled soldier. He sees this job as a last resort. He is joined by Kip who is as a Ranger as well. Kip is a highly skilled and much honored Chinese soldier. We learn that China has invested heavily into EDF since they find it economically lucrative for their military manufacturing industry. Grace and Rose are two Wing Divers. Both have opposite personalities. Grace is a well seasoned U.S soldier who loves warfare. Rose on the other hand is a girly girl and joined EDF because much like Ronald wanted to do something different. She and Grace comically engage. Joyce is an Air Raider. She is from Japan. She is highly intelligent and serves as a scout who calls in air strikes. Joe is the brother of Grace and serves as an Air Raider. He is close friends with Joyce (they work together) and has feelings for her despite her not being interested back. Finally there is Ben who is from Chicago himself. He was pursued to join the EDF by recruiters who promised that by joining EDF Ben’s college loans would be paid off if her served for 5 years. Over the next few months, we see the group train and develop. They are told by Patrick that each individual relies on each other and they are all part of a team. Each division, within EDF serves a specific purpose. Each other’s strengths counteract the other’s weaknesses. We see Joe pursue Joyce as a love interest. We also see Grace and Ronald develop a connection as well although Grace constantly mocks him for his lack of fighting skills.

After several months, suddenly, first contact is made by the alien life. Massive UFOS hover over the world’s largest cities including Chicago. The main mothership however positions itself over Shanghai. The ships sit over the cities without an contact for a week. The world leaders name the aliens The Ravagers. The ships make no aggressive action towards humanity.  The EDF is mobilized and monitors the ships.

As the EDF is mobilized, the massive ships begin to drop giant acid spitting insects resembling ants on the world’s cities. The massive insects attack civilians and begin to kill thousands. The EDF begins to go on the offensive. We see Ronald and Kip battle in close combat with the giant insects in Chicago. Still having air superiority, Grace and Rose are deployed and begin to attack the insects from the air. With the battle still raging, Ben joins the fight fighting inside of a giant robot standing 250 feet tall. He crushes the insects but also causes lots of destruction to the city. Joyce and Joe remain at headquarters with Patrick monitoring the situation.  The UFOs begin to drop more insects just as the EDF gains ground. Patrick orders an air assault with aircraft on the UFOs however giant guns appear out of the UFOs and easily shoot down the planes. Ronald is injured during the chaotic fight and is rescued by Grace. Rose continues to fight the insects using a powerful plasma cannon to blast the insects and she is also equipped with a missile launcher. She joins Kip who is armed with an assault rifle and homing rocket launcher. She and Kip battle furiously through downtown Chicago. The UFOs begin to drop giant spiders, which inflict heavy casualties on the EDF. The ships also drop 300 foot tall Hector, which flatten buildings. Ben is ordered to fight the Hector. We see a sequence of him battling a Hector on Navy Pier. He manages to defeat it but finds himself battling dozens more. Meanwhile, Kip and Rose have defeated most of the ants however continue to battle the spiders. Rose uses her missile launcher to kill a massive spider however the spider dodges it. The missile instead impacts Trump Tower and the massive silver skyscraper falls to the ground causing massive devastation. Rose seeing hundreds of innocent civilians killed is shocked and flees the battle and heads back to headquarters. Kip despite his best efforts is forced with Ben and the rest of the EDF to fall back from the utterly destroyed Chicago. They flee back to headquarters. Patrick tells the group that the rest of the world’s cities have reached a similar fate. He says they will have to go on a guerrilla campaign against the Ravagers.

Later that evening, Ronald begins to have doubts about EDF and wants to quit since they have been unsuccessful. He is eventually persuaded by Grace to stay. Rose and Joyce have an intimate talk and Joyce tells Grace it wasn’t her fault for the deaths. Joyce tells Rose she can avenger the deaths of the innocent civilians by continuing to fight.

After several weeks of patrolling and sporadic fights (we also learn more about the group. Jokes are shared and there are several intense small fights with insects), Joe and Joyce inform the group that the insects have formed an extensive alien nest underground after one of their recon missions. Patrick tells Ronald, Kip, and Rose to attack it. Joe and Joyce also learn that a single alien Queen ant is down there and is rapidly producing more ants. Ronald, Kip, and Rose depart to kill the Queen and the nest. The trio assault the nest, which is deep underground and dark. The battle goes poorly and the trio are almost defeated. Rose however decides to sacrifice herself to kill the Queen. She uses her plasma bomb to destroy the nest and the Queen. Kip and Ronald manage to escape just in time before the underground best collapses. Joe is torn by the death of his sister. Joyce comforts him.  Grace is also worried about Ronald being killed in the collapse. She however sees him and Kip return. She greets him with a kiss. The two begin a relationship.

A few days later, while the group is patrolling the coast, they discover a UFO having landed on the beach. It appears to be dormant, damaged, and defenseless. Patrick orders them to investigate it. They soon discover the UFO is sucking in huge amounts of air and releasing carbon dioxide, implying that the ship is more than a synthetic machine, and may be the hive intelligence controlling the Ravagers. After relying this information back to Patrick, he orders the team to assault the mothership. The team opens fire with their highly advanced and powerful weapons. Ben attacks the ship inside of his giant robot. He inflicts damage on the ship however the ship re-activates and uses a powerful gun to destroy the robot. The ship then flies into the air. The team finds Ben injured but alive. Ben is furious that the ship destroyed his machine. Meanwhile, before retreating the ship drops a massive 500 foot tall Quadruped Moving Fortress. The mecha attacks the group and after an intense fight, Grace manages to fly above the mecha and destroy it on its lightly armed upper surface. The group falls back afterward to base. They however find the base utterly destroyed and find Patrick’s burnt out remains. They however do discover a message from Patrick before he was killed that Beijing is the last unaffected city in the world and the last stand of humanity against the Ravagers. The group decide to leave for Beijing to make the final stand.

We see a shot of the rest of the world, the Ravagers control the entire globe and humans are forced into hiding. We see Beijing stand protected by a massive force shield protected developed by the Chinese. The attacks by the Ravagers on the city are for now held off. We see almost all the insects, ships, and Hectors make a beeline for the city. The massive mothership, which stood over Shanghai leaves and flies over Beijing. The Ravagers besiege the city.

Ronald, Kip, Grace, Joe, Ben, and Joyce all reach Beijing and managed to sneak their way into the city. Kip is great with great joy by the civilians who see him as a hero. There are few remaining EDF forces in the city. The mothership begins its assault and successfully destroys the protection shield. The Ravagers swarm the city causing chaos. During the battle, Ben is killed by a giant godzilla like monster, which is dropped from the mothership. The mothership also deploys more insects (ants, bees, and spiders), Erginus (godzilla like creatures), Hectors, drones, and dragons. Kip skillfully battles the monsters. The battle rages on with heavily losses on both sides. Joe and Joyce learn that they mothership actually controls all the other ships and Hectors. If it falls the Ravagers can be defeated. Joe tells Ronald that he needs to get to the top of the mothership and destroy it, much like how Grace destroyed the Quadruped Moving Fortress on the beach. Ronald falls back to where Joe and Joyce are. Joyce gives him a small timer. She says he needs to place this on the top of the ship. Once it is placed, Joyce and Joe will activate it and it will bring the mothership down. Joe says it is called, “Rule of God”.

Ronald leaves and in a climactic battle through the city (they are chased by drones, flying giant hornets, and dragons), Ronald with the help of Grace’s flying abilities reaches the top of the mothership. Ronald places the timer on the top. Grace’s jetpack is almost out of power and she doesn’t know if it can carry them both back. Ronald tells Grace to leave. Grace tearfully refuses but soon is forced by Ronald to leave. Ronald then seeing the flying insects and dragons beneath him, decides to make a jump. He falls through the sky and manages to land on a dragon. He shoots the monster in the head and as the dragon plummets toward the ground, Ronald braces for impact. He is at the last minute saved by Grace.

Meanwhile, Joe and Joyce trigger the “Rule of God”. We Joe let a small drone go into the air and it shoots at super speed over the mothership (it has locked onto the timer’s location). It releases small light particles. These particles soon form giant rays, which strike the mothership. Suddenly, a massive explosion occurs. It blasts the mothership and any surrounding structures, people, and Ravagers into dust. As massive fireball engulfs the mothership and the surrounding area. The ship collapses to the ground in a huge fireball. The Hectors and drones plummet of the sky or fall to the ground in a series of explosions. The rest of the Ravager forces become disorganized and flee. We see all the UFOs across the globe fall and explode.

The group regroups and realize they have been victorious. The Ravagers have been defeated. They have a funeral for Ben. Joe and Joyce soon develop a relationship. Ronald is hailed as a hero by the EDF and civilians. Ronald says he couldn’t have done it without his team. The Chinese President gives the entire group a medal of honor for their heroic actions. Also gives Rose and Ben their medal of honors posthumously.

Ronald, Grace, Kip, Joe, and Joyce stay in Beijing for a few days to recover. Kip asks Ronald were they will go afterward. Ronald says Ravagers still are on earth and need to be destroyed. Grace smiles and says “let’s go have some fun!” The team leave Beijing and head back to Chicago to liberate it.

Plot:

Spoiler

The film opens with a home video. We see Andy as a child. We see fragments videos of him growing up from an infant to college. The clips include birthday parties, times with family/friends, high school swimming meets, high school graduation, and then college graduation.

The Lonely

The film opens with Andy walking up in his bed. We see he lives in a studio apartment. He slowly rolls over an shuts off the alarm. He grabs his phone and checks it. He takes a picture of himself laying in bed. He then plays with the filters and uploads it to Instagram. He then climbs out of bed and goes to shower. After the shower, he makes a small breakfast and takes a picture of it. He puts it as his snap-story. He then gets dressed into work clothes. Before he leaves, we see him check his Instagram. His picture from this morning already has over 200 likes. He smiles to himself.

We see him drive through the city. Traffic is light and he makes it to work early. He walks into work and heads toward his cubicle. He co-workers are sucked into their work and barely acknowledge him or each other. As he walks through the rows of cubicles, he says, “People do not talk about how after you graduate college how much life sucks. I mean look at these poor people. They work 9-5pm each day to get a paycheck and build their retirement. This is place is basically a white collar factory. The adult world is so boring and it is an inescapable fate.”  We see Andy work throughout the day mostly in silence. He spends his day filing reports and working on spreadsheets. During lunch, Andy goes to the break room and eat a sandwich. At the table sit a female coworker and a male coworker both Andy’s age. The two talk however Andy sits in silence on his phone looking through his social media. The male coworker asks Andy why he is always on his phone. Andy without looking up, tells his two coworkers because he finds it more entertaining than the real world. The female coworker says she doesn’t have social media. She says she prefers to focus on her job and friends. She asks Andy how many followers he has. Andy tells her he has thousands of followers. She asks if that is a lot, stating she doesn’t know much about Instagram despite her friends having it. Andy says, “Ummm, yeah it is a lot. I am pretty popular on it.” The male coworker jokes that despite him having Instagram he hasn’t heard of Andy. The male and female coworker laugh. Andy rolls his eyes. Andy gets up and heads back to his desk to work. It soon turns 5pm and we see him gather his stuff and leave. His co-workers file out almost robotically at 5pm. They are all anxious to escape the 9-5pm workday rhythm.

Andy drives home as the sunsets. He goes to the gym to lift. Afterward, he drives home and makes dinner. While eating dinner, he plays video games and watches Netflix. He checks his phone periodically but he receives no messages. It gets late and he heads to bed. He lies in bed and looks over social media. He watches his friend’s snapchat stories and likes a few pictures on Instagram. He uploads a new picture that he took at the gym this morning. We see him stay up late browsing social media.

We follow him over the next few days. The days are repetitive. He has little to no human interaction outside of a few small conversations with coworkers. Most of these conversations with coworkers however Andy rarely looks up from his phone. We see that he is obsessed with his social media footprint. He posts a ton of pictures and stories on social media. In return, he grows in followers and gets lots of likes. His followers tell him in the comments he is attraction, is living the life, and must have a ton of friends. Andy takes in these flattering comments with joy despite most of the comments not actually been true. We also see several followers message him over Instagram and Snapchat asking to hang out. Andy despite wanting real life friendships, brushes them off because they are “followers”.

We also see Andy reach out to old friends from college over Facebook, Snapchat, and text. Few respond and most who do actually respond, keep it brief. We see Andy late at night scrolling through their social media. They all appear happy and having found good jobs and relationships. A few have relationship and are happily engaged/married. Others are constantly traveling and seem like they are living the ultimate life. Andy appears frustrated by fact their lives appear better than his. He voices this frustration and says he makes him feel insecure about his life. He says that he wishes he could have actual friends in the real world and go on fun trips but instead his life is fucking dull. He blames it on moving to a new city far away from friends and family. He is oblivious to the fact that coworkers and several followers actually want to hang out with him in real life, but he is too distracted by his image and social media to notice. Despite these insecurities, Andy’s social media image shows the opposite of his real life loneliness.

The film moves to the weekend. While getting ready to leave work, coworkers mention they are getting together at a bar downtown to celebrate a coworker’s birthday. Andy overhears this and is bothered he wasn’t invited. He brushes it off and plays up he doesn’t care about his coworkers since they are dull and boring people in his mind. He returns home after work and goes about the same routine despite it being a Friday night. In the morning, he wakes up to go workout and grab breakfast. He shares his morning workout and delicious breakfast over social media. He then returns to his place and plays video games. He then decides to drink that night alone in his apartment. His social media however plays a different story. On his social media, it appears he is pregaming with friends and living the life. He then tells the audience the skill behind his trickery and shares his secrets with them to building their image on social media. We see him text several people who he has tried to make friends with however they do not respond or give short uninviting responses. He spends his night watching Netflix and looking over his Facebook to see what his old friends are up too. We see old images of them. We see that they were good friends and very close. However it appears his friend group all went separate ways after college graduation. Andy ends up passing out in his bed.

The film moves to Monday. His cubicle partner mentions that they didn’t see him at the coworkers birthday party. Andy says he wasn’t invited. His coworker appears confused and says that he did invite Andy. Andy smirks and says, “Nope.” His coworker then apologizes. Andy laughs it off and says he had a crazy weekend anyway. His coworker says next time Andy will have to join them. The day then continues the same as last week. Coworkers work in mostly silence and then rush out at 5pm. We see a montage of the week, weekend, and the following week. It is the same cycle as the last week and weekend. Andy becomes more engrossed in his social media. His followers grow and he gets more and more likes. Despite this, he actual life is very dull and lifeless.

The following weekend, Andy is finally fed up with staying in. He decides to actually go out by himself. We see him have a few drinks at his place and then he calls an Uber. When he reaches downtown, he climbs out of the Uber and walks into a moderately busy bar. He grabs a seat at the bar and orders a drink. He sits for a while and plays on his phone. We see a girl looking across the bar at him. He and her make eye contact. Andy smiles and she smiles back. He walks over to her and she introduces herself as Emily. Andy orders her and him drinks and they sit and talk. She asks him if he is that guy at the bar that sits alone on his phone hoping to find some cute girl at the bar. Andy laughs and sarcastically says, “Guilty!” She laughs and says she recognizes him from Instagram. Andy laughs again. She asks if he is out with friends. Andy lies and says he is but they left early. Emily says Andy can join her and her friends. She asks if he is from the area. Andy says he moved here a 6 months ago from South Carolina. Emily says that is quite the distance. She says it must be challenging moving to a brand new city without knowing anybody. Andy laughs and says, “You have no idea”. They continue to chat until one of Emily’s friends comes over. Emily introduces Andy to her friends. They continue to party and have a good time the rest of the night. As the night winds down, Emily tells Andy she needs to go back since she is a little too drunk. She says she and her friends are grabbing brunch tomorrow and Andy should join. Andy says he is definitely down. They exchange numbers and Emily says she will see him tomorrow.

The following day, Andy wakes up and checks his phone. Nobody has messaged back. He shoots Emily a quick text asking what time they want to meet. He gets no response. The morning quickly passes and he receives no response. Andy appears disappointed that she never responded and resumes his usual Saturday routine of working out and playing video games. That night, Andy decides to head to bed early since he had a late night on Friday night and also because he has no plans tonight.

We see Andy slowly fall asleep. The screen goes black. The film enters his dreams. The blackness slowly fades away to whiteness. Andy appears. The camera pans around him as he looks around in the whiteness. Slowly objects begin to appear and take color. Andy finds himself in an apartment.  Suddenly the door to the apartment opens and a girl and boy enter. The girl says, ‘Oh hi! Andy! I see you let yourself in. Did the neighbor tell us about where we lived?” Andy says he doesn’t know how he got here and who they are. He says he is sorry and walks toward the door. The boy stops him and gives him a funny look. He says he is Derrick. He says they are friends. Andy says he doesn’t know a Derrick. The girl laughs and says Andy is funny. She says he does this every time but seems to forget after he goes away. She say she is Rachel. She says Andy hangs out with them in his dream world. Andy looks puzzled. Rachel grabs his hand and tells him her and Derrick will just have to readjust him back into their world again. Derrick says he hates how they have to do this every time. Rachel walks to the kitchen and opens three beers. She says it is Saturday night and it is time to go out. She hands Andy a beer and he accepts. He sits at the island in the kitchen and the three drink their beers and chat. We learn that in Rachel and Derrick’s world there are no phones, no jobs, and people spend their entire days socializing and going about their passions. It is a modern world without social media. They go out that night and have fun. Andy despite knowing this is only a temporary dream finds himself enjoying his time. He tells Derrick and Rachel it feels so realistic and like he is actually awake. As they walk back from the bars things begin blur for Andy. Andy says he must be super drunk. Derrick and Rachel help him. Suddenly he hears a bell sounding. It grows louder and louder drowning out Rachel and Derrick’s voices Suddenly everything goes black.

We see Andy wake up with a jump. He reaches over and shuts off his phone alarm. He lies in bed and blinks his eyes open. He is bothered by the dream and can’t stop thinking about it. As he gets ready for work, he tells the audience. “You sometimes you just have a really weird dream and it sticks with you? No matter what you do you can’t shake it. Like you know it is just a stupid dream but for some reason you are worried of having it fade away.” Andy drives to work and goes about the lifeless and dull routine of work.

That night, Andy has basically forgotten about the dream and heads to bed. The film moves to the dream world. We see him back in the apartment with Derrick and Rachel. Derrick says they missed him. Andy says, “Wait….this a continuation of the dream I had last night? How is this happening?” Rachel laughs and says that Andy can remember them. She tells Andy to stop worrying and come have fun. She says they are going camping this weekend. Andy is confused but agrees. We see them go camping and have a fun time. They climb a mountain and camp out on top of it. They arrive back to Rachel and Derrick’s apartment after spending the weekend camping. Andy says he has not had this much fun in a long time. Derrick says it is too bad it has to end for now. Andy says, “What?” Suddenly, Andy awakens. He climbs out of bed and grabs a drink of water. He says he must be going insane. He sees it is already morning and time for work.

The film follows Andy throughout the next few weeks. We see every night, he returns to the dream world with Rachel and Derrick. At first he is alarmed by the dreams, but eventually finds them comforting and he ends up looking forward to them. Each night, a dream can either be a single day or an entire month. Andy figures out though that the longer he sleeps the longer the time in the dream world tends to be. He soon becomes obsessed with Rachel and Derrick. Andy sleeps over the entire weekend in order to spend more time with them. He feels more relaxed in the dream world because of the lack of social media and there is not a need to put up a fake image to people to seem cool. The trio go on fun adventures across the globe. They also spend nights in and cook and watch Netflix. Rachel and Andy also grow in feelings for each other. They end up having sex. Andy eventually moves into a spare room in Rachel and Derricks’ apartment. We also see Andy still visible on his social media. He continues to post but less frequently since he is finding himself more and more obsessed with the dream world.

One day, he is late to work because he wanted to sleep in. He gets in trouble with his boss. That night, Andy vents about his dull and lifeless job to Rachel and Derrick. Both tell Andy they are sorry to hear about his horrible job. Andy asks them if they have dull jobs like him. Rachel says that in their world jobs do not exist. Money is unlimited and everybody spends time just enjoying life and living it to the fullest. Andy laughs that this is a dream world. He says he would love to stay here forever.

One Friday, his coworkers invite him out with them. They say it is time they get Andy out to the bars with them. After his coworkers invite him, Andy turns to the audience and says, “You know, I have worked with these people for fucking 6 months. They haven’t invited me out once!” He then pauses. We see a flashback over the past 6 months. We see that his coworkers have invited him out with them. We see that he was just too busy with his phone to hear them. Andy realizes that this time when asked he for once wasn’t on his phone and could actually have a conversation with his coworkers.

The film move to later that night. Andy is out with his coworkers drinking and have a good time. Andy is beginning to realize he kind of likes hanging out with these people. However as the night progresses, Andy slowly becomes more and more drunk and finds himself glued to his phone as he becomes drunkenly worried about his social media. He finds himself standing by the back of the bar just drinking by himself. Because he has been sitting on his phone so much, it eventually dies. He walks over to find his coworkers to ask if they can give him a ride home since he is way too drunk to drive and it is getting close to the end of the night. He however discovers that his coworkers are gone. Annoyed by this, Andy walks over to the other bar across the street but they aren’t in there. He realizes that his coworkers forgot about him completely. Drunk and frustrated, Andy walks in the cold for two hours until he finally reaches his apartment. It is 5am and starting to get light. Andy gets home and takes a warm shower to warm up. He then climbs into bed and falls asleep.

The dream world, he and Rachel sit and talk. She says she can notice something is wrong with him. Andy tells her about his night. She gives her sympathies and says she and Derrick would never do that to Andy. Andy says he just feels neglected by people and almost like he is invisible. He says it is like nobody knows he exists. He says he thought his social media would provide relief but it doesn’t. He says it is all fake and a sham. He begins to cry. Rachel comforts him.

The following day, Andy decides to go to the store and get some sleeping drugs so he can sleep the rest of the day and spend it with Rachel and Derrick. When he gets home, he takes the drugs and sleeps over all Saturday and Sunday.  We see him enjoy his life with Rachel and Derrick. In the dream world a whole 6 months pass.

Andy walks up on Monday and just manages to get to work in time. The film follows him during the week. He gets home and goes to sleep almost instantly. The dream world is taking over his life. On Wednesday, he checks his social media during lunch, which he has neglected. It has fallen dramatically and he no longer is getting the attention on it he once had. He is shocked by this and upset. He says that was is one thing that was going for him in life. But what shocks him more is that on Facebook he sees his good friend from college got married and he sees all his old friends there. He is enraged by this. He says he is hurt by the blatant slap in the face. He says their friendship was just a whole sham and fraud despite it looking and feeling like they were best friends for 4 years. He says he has tried to reach out this this friend but never got any response. He says it isn’t like he didn’t work on his end to continue the friendship after college.

That night after work, we see Andy get drunk in his apartment despite it being a Wednesday night. He is frustrated and angry. He grabs his phone and begins to text angrily. The next thing we see is him asleep passed out in his bed. The film moves to the dream world where Andy shares with Rachel that his life outside of this dream world is falling apart. He says he is struggling to get through the waking hours and all he wants is to be asleep and happy with Rachel and Derrick. Derrick tells him that Andy can join him and Rachel in their world. Derrick says Andy can live in the spare room in their apartment. He says they can finally be roommates together.  Rachel smiles and grabs Andy’s hand. She tells Andy to join her and Derrick forever. Andy says he doesn’t know how to do that. Rachel tells Andy he already knows how to do that. Andy pauses and then says, “You want me to kill myself?” Rachel says that is necessary in order for him to join their world permanently. Andy says he doesn’t know if he can do that. Rachel says, “What do you have to lose? What is holding you to the waking world?” Andy suddenly awakens. He walks to the bathroom and splashes water in his face. He says, “What the fuck is happening to me.” He grabs his phone and looks at it. He has no messages. He opens his Facebook. He sees several of his once good friends have unfriended him. His Instagram has collapsed further. He sees the world he created on social media is spiralling downward. He begins to see the messages he sent when he was drunk and angry last night. We see that he messaged and texted several of his old friends last night. We see he vented his frustrations to them and his anger at being kicked to the curve once they all graduated college. We see nobody has responded to him, but most have unfriended him on Facebook and Snapchat. Andy is horrified by this. He looks into the mirror and says, “There is no way I can rebuild myself. I mean, fuck….people make stupid drunk mistakes all the time, but this is a whole new level. Rachel was right, I have nothing to lose.”

We see Andy go to work and he is late. His boss yells at him but he doesn’t care. He simply doesn’t care. His coworkers try to talk with him but he brushes them off. After work, Andy drives home in silence. He walks into his apartment and sets his things on the table. He goes to the kitchen and grabs a knife. He grabs some of the sleeping pills and downs them. He lies on his bed. He grabs the knife and cuts himself deep. Blood begins to pour out. He drifts off. He finds himself in the apartment. He tells Rachel he did it. He says they can be together forever. Rachel however is panicked. She says Derrick has disappeared. Andy says, “What?!” Rachel is crying. The apartment begins to shake and the walls begin to crumble. Andy asks what is happening. Rachel says she doesn’t know. Andy hugs Rachel. He says this is just a transition. Rachel looks at him. She slowly begins to fade away. She says, “This was just a creation of your imagination. You are dying and so are we.” Rachel vanishes. Andy realizes what is happening. The apartment and the world around him crumbles into darkness. Andy realizes that he is now dead. He screams into the void blackness. He soon is absorbed into the darkness. The screen goes black.

The film moves to a random girl. She is sitting on Instagram looking at her feed. She sees one of Andy’s pictures and she likes them. He tells her friends to check out this hot guy. They all follow Andy and like his pictures. The girl says he must have a ton of friends and girls must be all over him. She says she wishes she was popular. One of her friends states that it must nice to have fans all over the globe. The girls then decide to take a picture together. After the picture, they all sit in silence as they try to find the right tags and filter for Instagram in order to boost their image on social media. They sit in utterly silence  despite being in a group. The screen goes black.

7 weeks later, in deep space, the mad scientist Dr. Jumba Jookiba is arrested and put on trial by the Galactic Federation for numerous “illegal genetic experimentations”, evidenced by his newest creation Experiment 626, a small sentient creature with unparalleled intelligence and strength, but also highly chaotic, whose sole purpose is to destroy. Jumba is imprisoned while Experiment 626 is sentenced to exile on a desert asteroid. However, the paranoid yet powerful Commander Gantu, head of the Federation’s police team, secretly plans to kill Stitch himself, to prevent 626 from ever hurting anyone again. Lilo takes a swim in the ocean giving a fish a sandwich. After luring it in, she places it a water bottle for safekeeping. Lilo then runs to school late... by 4 hours in time for recess explains to the teacher on why she was late and the power of the fish. During recess, Lilo sits alone near the basketball court. The school bully Myrtle taunts her about her being late. After a humorous word fight, Myrtle then makes a snide remark about Lilo’s parents causing Lilo to knock her out with one punch and walks out of school.

Meanwhile, Nani celebrates a successful job interview at a restaurant, thanking David for recommending her, relived she can take care of Lilo. David tries to flirt, suggesting they should celebrate tonight but Nani refuses despite her attraction, wanting to keep their relationship as friends and she has to take care of Lilo.  Nani then gets a call from the school principal, telling her about what Lilo did. Nani drives home immediately only to be locked out by a sad Lilo. Cobra in the middle of Nani’s outburst startles her. Cobra then expresses increasing concern that Nani is unable to take adequate care of Lilo, and warns her the deadline is looming. Nani tells him she recently got hired at a restaurant. Cobra congratulates her but warns him to keep it steady and leave. After an argument with Lilo, Nani has a conversation with her asking why she hit Myrtle. Lilo says she said things about their parents and it got her so angry. Nani admits she’d hit her twice as hard but wouldn’t due to that not being the right way to let out anger. Lilo then comments on how she has no friends. Nani reminds her she has her which Lilo agrees but Lilo wants someone to be there if something happens to Nani. The next day, to reduce Lilo's grief and for her to have a friend, Nani decides to let Lilo adopt a dog. At the shelter, Lilo immediately takes a keen interest in Experiment 626, who is impersonating a dog, in order to escape captivity. In spite of Nani's doubts, Lilo names 626 "Stitch" and shows him around the island. Stitch quickly discovers escape from the island is impossible due to the island being surrounded by water, since his body being too dense to swim, and that there are no large cities or targets worthy enough to destroy causes Stitch to suffer a nervous breakdown.

That evening, as Lilo and Stitch eat dinner at the restaurant where Nani works, Jumba and Pleakley try but fail to capture Stitch. The resulting chaos is blamed on Stitch, causing Nani to be fired. Pleakley and Jumba cover is almost blown, due to Pleakley wig being taken off but Jumba claims it was a severe nut allergy, threatening to sue the restaurant. David tries to convince the manager to let Nani stay but he refuses to listen although he feels sympathy, he doesn’t want a liability. The three go home, only for Stitch to tear up the house, causing Nani to get fed up attempting to throw Stitch out but Lilo reminds Nani of the meaning of Ohana, Nani reluctantly letting Stitch stay. After making a bed for Stitch, through using various attempts for him (a silly bedtime story, which only cause Stitch to laugh uncontrollably, warm milk, which Stitch is allergic to, rocking him to sleep, only for Stitch to rock the chair sending him flying into a wall, reverse psychology, and even poorly used hypnosis) to go to sleep fails, Lilo decides to introduces Stitch to Pudge, a pet fish of her, whom Stitch accidentally kills by shaking his bowl. Lilo, bursts into tears, sad at losing another member of her family. Sneaking out, Lilo takes Stitch outside to commence a funeral for Pudge, burying Pudge next to her parents graves, where Stitch tries to console her. Stitch, for the first time in his life, to feel grief and remorse. Watching from afar, Jumba is confused by Stitch’s reaction, believing it to be a ploy. Pleakley, asks out of curiosity why was Stitch created. Jumba says obviously destruction and the world(s). Pleakley although gets the whole mad scientist thing but then says most scientists have a reason for an experiment other wise they can risk things like their self or family. The last word hits Jumba hard and on the defensive says he just wants power. Pleakley then asks can Stitch reform. Jumba denies it saying he removed empathy from Stitch’s programming. Pleakley then says that it might’ve been added naturally. Jumba is still confused at Stitch’s sudden change. Pleakley still optimistic, then says that if Stitch can change, anyone can. Pleakley is about to go to sleep until he sees a lone mosquito. Fascinated and in awe, Pleakley watches as more swarm around him and leave. Pleakley has goes into a fanatic euphoria about seeing the endangered species, only to break out into an itching fit. Jumba ponders to himself if he can be reformed as well, looking a locket of him and a child like alien with some resemblance to him.

The next day, Cobra warns Nani that if she doesn't get another job today, Cobra will have to place Lilo with a foster family. As Nani attempts to find another job, Lilo believing Stitch can change, tries educating Stitch about Elvis Presley, whom she calls a "model citizen" as well as reading him “The Ugly Duckling”. However, Stitch's antics, including evading Jumba and Pleakley, ruin Nani's chances of finding work. Nani's friend, David, invites Nani and Lilo to take a break and enjoy a day of surfing. While Nani, Lilo and Stitch ride on a huge wave, Jumba makes one final effort to capture Stitch from underwater, knowing it’s not in his programming to swim, causing Nani to wipe out, and Stitch unintentionally pulls Lilo down with him. Although everyone gets safely to shore, Cobra witnesses this unfortunate event, telling Nani that although she means well, Lilo will have to be taken away. After seeing how much trouble he has caused, Stitch runs off into the forest, taking “The Ugly Duckling” book, hoping to find a place to belong. Nani tries to cheer up Lilo, ordering a pizza, and watches their favorite movies together. Lilo asks if Stitch will return to say goodbye. Nani is unsure and takes a pause, only for Lilo to sadly interrupt that he’s probably not coming back. Lilo then realizes that she might not see Nani again and begins to tear up, afraid of being friendless, or of her caretakers hate her. Nani, crying too, promises if it takes her until the end of time, she’d reunite them and she’ll be in her heart. Nani tucks Lilo in but Lilo asks if she can sleep in Nani’s room. Nani allows this and the two go to sleep. Stitch hides in the forest debating with himself whether or not to go back to Lilo, pondering if her life would be better without him. Until, he seeks a pack of duck, with a duckling arguing with its parents, running away, only to be a approached by a hungry dog but the parent ducks save him just in time, giving hope to Stitch that he can still be loved and accepted.

The next morning, the Councilwoman relieves Jumba and Pleakley of their assignment, reluctantly giving it to Gantu instead, freeing Jumba to pursue Stitch using less covert methods, while Pleakley attempts to find a way to recontact the federation to negotiate. Meanwhile, David informs Nani of another job opportunity, which Nani rushes to pursue. Stitch, on his way to come back to Lilo, encounters Jumba. Jumba asks Stitch where he’s going. Stitch says to his family. Jumba says that they’re family as he created, and tries to tell Stitch he has to go back to space much to Stitch’s refusal. During a heartfelt conversation about family, Stitch asks Jumba about Jumba’s own family. Jumba then tells Stitch, he wasn’t the first experiment, and long ago Jumba used to be a normal scientist. Jumba was unable of having children of his own, he created Experiment 001, to be his child using some of his own DNA to pass down his legacy and share his love. For a while everything went out well, but Gantu found out, to hunt her down due to Jumba breaking the laws for genetic experiment. Gantu was supposed to bring in the specimen but he made it his mission to destroy it out of fear. Despite Jumba’s pleas that it’s his child, and harmless, Gantu killed his experiment dead. Jumba manages to escape, but the death of his child causes Jumba to fall into grief and madness, creating experiments to cause destruction. Stitch notices Jumba crying a bit and tries to console him, wiping a tear from his cheek. Jumba then says Stitch can’t have a family or fit in due to his destructive nature and was programmed with a lack of empathy. Jumba tries to reason with Stitch to take him back but Stitch runs off. Jumba chases Stitch back to Lilo's house. A fight ensues, which ends in Lilo and Nani's house being blown up. Gantu finally arrives on Earth, landing at a nearby beach, scaring off and interrogating innocent bystanders, until he finds Pleakley. Cornering him, Gantu decides to interrogate Pleakley using brute force, by killing mosquitoes one by one, into telling him the whereabouts of where Stitch’s location might be. Pleakley, reluctantly tells Gantu everything he knows wanting to keep the extinct species alive.

Gantu allows Pleakley to go free, gaining an idea. Cobra arrives to collect Lilo and take her away. As Nani and Cobra argue, Lilo runs away and encounters Stitch, who reveals his alien identity just moments, although angered and slightly disgusted, Lilo still accepts him. However, Commander Gantu ambushes the duo, and captures both of them. Stitch manages to escape before Gantu's ship takes off and is confronted by Nani. Before he can explain, Jumba captures Stitch himself. Pleakley, injured from earlier, to tell Jumba that Gantu has arrived and is looking for Stitch. A saddened Stitch explains Gantu took Lilo. Nani demands that they help her rescue Lilo, but Jumba insists they only came for Stitch. When Nani breaks down, Stitch reminds Nani about ʻohana, a term for "family" he learned from Lilo. Jumba moves by this, decides to join Stitch and Nani to save Lilo, not wanting Gantu to destroy another family, Pleakley decides to go as well. Meanwhile on Gantu’s ship, Gantu finds Stitch missing becomes enraged and flies around the island to look for him. Lilo asks Gantu why does he wants Stitch and her. Gantu reveals that after killing Stitch, he’ll claim he saved her from Stitch’s “rampage”, causing him to get enough praise as a hero to become a member of the federation. Gantu also threatens to kill Lilo if she doesn’t go along with his plan. The group finds Gantu and then gives chase in Jumba's spaceship. Spoiler

The film begins with David Strorm dreaming. In the dream there is of a magnificent city bordered by ocean, although he has never seen the sea in waking life. When he wakes up, he recalls this dream to his sister Perta and inquires about the existence of any such place, to which she replies that, although this city does not exist, it may have existed long ago, before God sent Tribulation. She also warns him to suppress such thoughts, for other people do not have such images in their heads either awake or asleep. Fortunately, David has the sense to take this advice seriously. After his talk with her, he ventures forth upon a high bank, which has sand slopes. While standing there and thinking of his dream he had, a girl who introduces herself to David as Sophie inquires what David is thinking of. David lies and says that he is think of his lessons he learned in school about the Fringes where the Blasphemies live, which lies beyond the village. Sophie smiles and says that she never thinks of such boring material. She asks David if he wants to race her to the water. David agrees and the two set off. As they run down the high bank. Sophie suddenly catches her foot in a small crevice. While her snagged foot causes her intense pain, she adamantly refuses David’s suggestion to remove the shoe to facilitate the extraction of her foot. After much convincing, she obliges but makes David promise not to tell anyone of what he sees. To David’s surprise, he notices that Sophie’s foot has an extra toe, startled David says that Sophie is a Blasphemy and that he must inform his father the village leader. Sophie pleads with David not to tell his father. David recites the Definition of Man, "And each leg shall be jointed twice and shall have one foot and each foot five toes. And any creature that shall seem to be human, but is not formed thus, is not human. It is a blasphemy against the true image of God, and hateful in the sight of God." Sophie’s head drops and she begins to cry, David suddenly feeling pity for Sophie helps her home, where he is uneasily questioned by Sophie’s tense mother. She demands him not to reveal Sophie’s deformity at any one, for if people were to discover it they would kill or banish Sophie and her family. David agrees solemnly, sensing the severity behind Mrs. Wender's demands. Being confused by the shock of his afternoon, David wanders home in intense thought. David recites the saying and he is suddenly struck with the full weight of the secret.

The Chrysalids

David gives a voice-over on the fiercely religious society of Waknuk. His home is one of the eldest in the village and is decorated with multiple proverbs and quotes from ancient religious volumes such as the “Repentances” and the Bible, which are carved and burned into wood. We learn that David’s father, Joseph Strorm, is a prominent and devout community leader amongst the villagers. We learn of David’s grandfather Elias Strorm, an evangelistic pioneer from the East, who was one of the first to establish himself in the Waknuk district, along with his submissive younger wife. Joseph’s demeanor is easily explained by his father’s harsh religious views. It is also established that it is the individual responsibility of each individual citizen of Waknuk to be wary of Offenses and Blasphemies and this often times means purging mutated livestock and crops that carry the title of an Offence. It is also revealed that David’s father is the farmer who has been know to purge the most Deviations in the town. It is debatable as to whether or not Joseph’s father is burdened by a surplus of Deviations in his surroundings, or whether he is one of the select few who do not have double standards. It is stated that Blasphemies are somewhat of horrific folklore and used to the advantage of the pure people as a means of disciplining young children. This comes from the fact that on occasion, the deformed outcast Blasphemies have been know to venture into Waknuk to raid the village of crops and livestock for their survival in their unforgiving land of the Fringes where the outcast dwell.

The next morning he goes and visits Sophie, to find that her foot is completely healed. David sees Mr. Wender, Sophie’s father. We learn that there is visible tension between Mr. Wender and David, David believes that these feelings steam from the fact that Mr. Wender does not trust him: this is understandable, since he is the son of Joseph Strorm.. However, David understands the severity of the situation Sophie is going through. Later in the day while splitting wood, David got a splinter. Having tried to retrieve the lodged piece of wood from his hand, it began to bleed. He then goes to the house to bandage the wound and everyone is too busy to assist him. Cursing under his breath, he muses at how convenient it would be to have a third arm. After this statement, there is a long pause and David’s father is visibly mortified. He harshly punishes his son for wishing to be a Blasphemy. Despite his meek responses, all people present are ordered to appeal to God for forgiveness. They immediately drop to their knees and pray to God to forgive David for his unholy words. He is sent to his room for the remainder of the evening, where Joseph gives him a beating. That night, sleep comes uneasily to David. He has a horrid dream about one of the ceremonies in which his father purges the farm’s Offences. However there is one distinct difference: instead of a deformed goat or an imperfect stalk of corn, Joseph Strorm is killing Sophie. David suddenly awakes in shock. He says that it is only a dream and goes back to bed.

The next morning, he sits in the yard and talks with Rosaline; this conversation however is not an ordinary one. David is speaking to her with his mind (telepathically) while she is at home on her own family farm. Uncle Axel, the farm handyman, comes across David speaking to what seems as nobody. This strikes him as odd and he decides to question the boy. David explains that he is able to speak to certain people through his mind, people far away, well out of shouting distance. Uncle Axel, being one of David’s closest and most understanding companions, advises him to keep this gift to himself  and not to speak aloud while sharing thoughts remotely. David realizes now that this ability is abnormal, comparable to Sophie's extra toes; knowing full well the repercussions of a Blasphemy, he willingly abides to secrecy. Having made this connection, David hurriedly contacts all the people he is able to exchange thoughts with and explains the risk of them being discovered. They all agree to secrecy also. Incidentally, this is the first decision they make unanimously and a sort of group dynamic is established. We learn that the telepaths are all teens, scattered around Waknuk: David, Rosaline, Michael, Rachel, Anne, and Katherine.

That night as David walks home he hears the sound of bells coming from the outpost at the edge of the town. People all around him begin to freak out running to the church, which is located in the middle of the town. David asks a woman what is happening. She says that the Fringe dwellers are raiding the village. David runs to the church. We see the townsfolk in great fear hiding in the church. Outside we hear noises of looting and yelling and then sound silence. The villagers quietly walk outside. They houses are basically striped of everything. David meets back with his family at his house, which has been heavily destroyed. David’s father says that they will begin work in the morning to fix the village back up. The next morning, David walks into the barn to milk the cow which was not stolen. He hears a noise and peeps around the corner. He sees a young Blasphemy tied to a post. Joseph Strorm and Uncle Axel question the youth. The Blasphemy’s deviation is his long, gangling, spider-like limbs. He refuses to answer the two men. Uncle Axel says that they will let this Blasphemy go back to his home in the Fringes, however Joseph Strorm disagrees saying that they will execute the Blasphemy, because he is an offense to God. Uncle Axel says that he will guard the Blasphemy while Joseph Strorm calls the people together. Joseph Strorm leaves. Uncle Axel unties the Blasphemy and tells him to leave quickly. The teen quickly leaves. Uncle Axel tells Joseph Strorm that the Blasphemy overpowered him and escaped. Joseph angrily frowns at Uncle Axel.

The following spring proves to be relatively “Deviance-free”. The village of Waknuk breaks the local “Purity record”. David continues his friendship with Sophie and since she cannot attend school, David takes it upon himself to educate her in matters of Geography, Math and Ethics, which are the principal topics covered in his own schooling. David also often sneaks away to be with Sophie (David’s parents know nothing about her). They much enjoy fishing for shrimps in a secluded stream. David pursues a catch barefoot and eventually coaxes Sophie to do the same, despite her deformity. On one particular occasion, the pair is surprised by the son of the local blacksmith, Allan. David is made uneasy by his presence. Allan inquires as to who the girl is (for Sophie has had minimal contact with others) and then notices something peculiar. On a rock, there is a wet footprint with the imprint of an extra toe. He then deduces that this footprint is Sophie’s and prepares to make the Blasphemy public. In an attempt to stop the boy, David attacks him. After a brief scuffle, Allan suddenly falls limp; Sophie knocked the boy out with a blow to the head. David immediately takes Sophie home; they explain what has happened, and Sophie’s parents see fit to leave town because their daughter is at risk. David asks to go with them but they reluctantly refuse, because his disappearance would raise the profile of their own departure enormously, and have them closely followed. After they are gone, David decides to sleep at the empty Wender residence. The next morning he hurries home, hoping to return to his room early enough to pretend that he was there the entire night. This, however, is not the case. David’s father is livid about his son’ absence, and is in the company of the village priest. They question David about Sophie and David pleads ignorance. This furthers Joseph’s temper and David is once again detained in his room for a severe beating.

After having suffered a harsh beating from his father for sleeping at the Wender’s deserted house, he is left alone in his bedroom and he talks to his friends who share his telepathic ability he tells them about Sophie and her secret. As he attempts to find sleep, he dreams again of the once familiar Big City. In desperation, David decides to escape from Waknuk. When he awakens the following morning, He is questioned by the priest and David is still very evasive. David’s doubts about his culture grow steadily especially with the lecturing from the priest about the Devil tempting humanity from purity during this discourse, they are interrupted by David’s father who announces that the Wender’s have been captured. David is grief stricken and guilt ridden until the priest reassures him that the capturing of the Wender’s was purely by chance of routine patrollers.

A few days later, David confides in his Uncle Axel and tells him of his plans to run away, Uncle Axel strongly advises against doing so. Despite David’s persistence, Uncle Axel continues to tell him of the world beyond the county of Waknuk. He explains what lies south Rigo, things that have never been taught to David in school. He then explains that the terrain outside of their familiar territory is plagued with dangerous deviations and that there are unspeakable monstrosities in areas known only as the Black Coasts. The explorer, Marther, gave this name to the lands beyond in his writings during various expeditions particularly one on the Venture, the only known ship to have returned from the land beyond the black coasts with tangible artifacts. He goes on to elaborate on the intense deviations and their nature. Uncle Axel also attempts to comfort David about his gift and explains that there are many different races outside of Waknuk and therefore many different definitions of what the norm is and how each of these different races believes they are of the true image of God. He also points out inaccuracies in the book, Repentances and tries to break David of the mold of thought he is forced into from school and his father’s harsh teachings. The existence of other possible true forms suggests that David and the others who share his gift could just as well be closer to the true image of god as anyone else. He inquires to know exactly how many people David can actually speak to and David explains that there are six of them. He says they call themselves the Chrysalids.

During this time, David’s mother having been pregnant for the past nine months finally gives birth to a child. The child must obtain its certificate of normalcy before it can be addressed as alive and existing. Until the priest does so the fact that there is new life in the household remains unacknowledged. Unfortunately, the priest is late and his tardiness angers Joseph Strorm. Upon his arrival, he is leisurely and unrushed which is almost as frustrating to Joseph. The new child is found to be perfectly normal and is certified. Her existence is confirmed and Alice Strorm is greeted into the world.

A few days following Alice’s birth, David’s aunt whom he is very fond of, comes for a visit with her own newborn child. The sisters are thrilled at their new children until Harriet Somberly states that she has yet to certify her daughter because she knows her daughter will not meet the normalcy standards. Harriet Somberly desperately attempts to convince her sister to allow her to borrow the infant Alice to have her certified, instead of her own daughter. While pleading she says that her husband would leave her if she were to produce another Deviation and that her sister is the only chance she has to save the child she loves. Mrs. Strorm is disgusted and adamant upon her refusal. She is outraged that her sister brought such filth into her home and orders her sister to leave immediately. Joseph arrives and is equally appalled by what Harriet has done. He chastises her for having sinned and for even having thought of such a devilish way to save a Blasphemy. Harriet leaves and the next day she is found dead in the river.

Scared by the recent turn in events, David develops and intense desires to become normal and never be in a position like his aunt. He begins to pray constantly to lose his ability. On one particular morning, his Uncle Axel calls him out to help him fix a plough. David confides his fears associated with the death of Harriet; however, his Uncle Axel reassures him and helps him find reason and acceptance of his ability.

On morning, David is one day working out in the fields and he suddenly feels an unstoppable need to run, his force seems urgent and unlike anything he has ever felt before. The mental cries are painful and persistent and continue until he reaches a river where his sister Petra is about to drown. He successfully saves her and Rosaline also arrives. She also felt the cries and states that the calling was stronger than anything any of them are capable of. Upon their return they are questioned by surrounding people asking how they could have possibly known what had happened to Petra. They casually state that her cries of distress were perfectly audible to anyone and that they are surprised no one had heard them. Perta afraid at what was happening to her and agrees with David and Rosaline. That night, David has terrible dreams of a purging ceremony where the deviation to be killed this time is not a crop or animal or even Sophie, but David sees his sister Petra at the hands of her father.

The next morning David desperately tries to contact his sister through thought but is unable to. He attributes this to her being so opposed and unaware of her ability and convinced that the only reason that she was able to make such a cry of distress was because she was in a position of such intense danger. David considers openly telling her but decides against it because it would only make him more vulnerable to discovery. The village begins to struggle with high deviation levels. His father alone had lost 3 fields. A total of 35 field burnings due to Deviations. David while outside of the church on a Sunday, gets an earful from Old Jacob a villager who has seen his share of years. Old Jacob attributes this recent hike in imperfections to corruption in government and carelessness of the youth. He believes that the changes are the early beginnings of a new age Tribulation. This heightens David’s self-awareness and intensifies the need to be secretive the logic being that with things going wrong, people will have a keep eye for scapegoats for imperfection. This anxiety is slowly abated over time until Anne, one of the people who can send thoughts like David, is getting married

The man Anne is to wed is not only a person of the norm but he also happens to be Allan the son of the local blacksmith. The same Allan who discovered Sophie Wender’s secret. Despite the vivid warnings against this union from the members of the Chrysalids, Anne is determined and goes as far as blocking the others out. The remaining people of the group are understandably uneasy being aware of the vulnerability and submissiveness a bride can incarnate and the reputation of Allan based of previous acts. David shares this dilemma with Uncle Axel and he strongly agrees with where David stands. He even suggests that it way even be worth killing Anne to protect their secret. David however refuses this option. Once Anne is officially wed, she servers any ties with everyone else who share the gift of thoughts.

During this, feelings between Rosaline and David blossom and they discover true love. A mere week after Anne’s marriage to Allan, he is found dead in a forest with an arrow through his neck. David and the group simultaneously attempt to reach out to Anne who is convinced that they had something to do with Allan’s death. The next day, Rachel part of the group tries to confront her by going to her home but there is no reply. Alarmed, Rachel questions the neighbor and they break into the home only to find Anne hanging from a beam with a rope around her neck. By her corpse, there is a letter addressed to the priest the neighbor finds but since she is unable to read, she assumes it is addressed to the deceased girls family. Rachel opens the letter and finds that it denounces each and every one of the people who are able to send thoughts. The letter is destroyed by Rachel. The murder of Allan still remains unsolved. Gossip plagues Waknuk, but no one is unanimously suspected.

The spring following after the death of Allan, is relatively Deviance free there is a grand total of only two fields burned none of which belong to Joseph Strorm. David’s sister Petra begins to understand and develop her new power. She reveals that she is able to hear people further away that David cannot. She officially joins the group. David returns to Uncle Axel who tells David that he is getting sloppy and that people are suspecting things. Uncle Axel concedes to having killed Allan because he knew that Anne had told him everything and that at the time he was killed he was on his way to tell the priest. Later that evening, David confers with the others, Michael suggests that they should all be on their guard and be ready to leave on short notice if things go wrong.

That night, David awakens suddenly to the signal of others telling him that some of the Chrysalids have been captured. In a panic, he immediately reaches Petra and they meet with Rosaline. With nothing but a horse, they make their escape from the land of Waknuk into uncharted and dangerous territory. Soon after, David is alerted by Michael who has stayed behind. He tells them that they are being followed and should maintain constant vigilance. This warning is proven true when Rosaline kills a man threatening their surreptitiousness when he comes upon their camp at night. The importance of secrecy is solidified by this.

On the following day, they are reached by the desperate cries of one of the captured Chrysalids; Katherine. We learn that she is being withheld against her will by the priest. She is being tortured for information, unfortunately with success. Fortunately however, from what Katharine was forced to divulge, the priest is only aware of the existence of David, Petra and Rosaline. Determined, the priest states a reward for the capture of the escaped Deviations; he is entirely committed to learning about the ability of the Chrysalids and guarantee that such a blasphemy never occurs again. David and his companions decide to venture into the land of the Fringes to lose the stalking villagers and on Michael’s behalf, he says he will see as to how he can fake the deaths of the escapees in an effort to put an end to the manhunt. When Michael communicates with Petra, she asks him why the messages he sends are mixed with those of another mystery person. This mystery person is found to be a girl who Petra feels she can identify with. She tells this person their coordinates and they exchange information. When Petra confers with David, he realizes that the descriptions Petra’s new friend’s environment seems to match David’s dreams from long ago. David, Petra and Rosaline feel an elevated intensity motivating their quest.

On their journey, a man on their path confronts the group. Stranded, they resort to knocking him off his horse and ride on in a hurry. Petra continues to converse with the girl from David’s dream city. She explains to them that she is sending help to rescue them and bring them to a safe place but until then, Petra must be protected at all costs. Soon after, Michael tells the group that the pursuit is back in full force. Suddenly, they are shot at while traveling and they chose to take cover in the thick woods. When they think all is safe, they reach a clearing and suddenly from above something unknown and solid, falls upon David and makes him lose consciousness instantly. When David regains consciousness, he notices that they have been captured by the Fringe folk and they are being taken prisoner. Despite this, they notice that David and Rosaline are now in range with the girl from David’s dreamland, which is named Sealand. When the Fringe people reach their destination, David comes face to face with the spider-like teen he once met during the raid in his the village. We learn that Gordon, which is his name is actually David’s cousin and that his abnormality was not discovered until four years after his birth. Thankfully, his mother saved him from his tragic fate, but Gordon still vows revenge on the ways of the people of Waknuk, more particularly his idealist ignorant uncle Joseph Strorm. In an act of brutality, the people of the Fringes decide to keep the two girls traveling with David for breeding purposes. Gordon encourages David not to protest and he is driven outside the Fringe village where he is beaten unconscious again.

Once David awakens, he notices he is being dragged, but by none other that his old time friend; Sophie Wender. Due to her deformity she lives with the rest of the Fringe people and we learn that she loves Gordon, but was rendered infertile upon her banishment from Waknuk to assure that she would not reproduce her deviation once released into the Fringes. She is jealous of the new prisoners since they are fertile. Motivated by her own devices, she chooses to help David back into the Fringes town to rescue his friends, so that they may continue on with their quest. David contacts Michael who notifies David that the David’s father’s team following David, Petra, and Rosaline. Michael states that they are making slow progress, because of the antagonizing attacks from the Fringe people. That night Sophie creeps into Gordon’s tent where the girls are being held and she rescues them unnoticed. Sophie’s plan proves successful and Petra, David, and Rosaline are reunited.

Once escaped, Sophie explains to David that they are safe with her, but that they must lay low until the search is off because the Fringe people will surely seek them out once they notice that their two “breeders” are missing. Rosaline is uneasy about trusting Sophie. Jealousy and animosity are present between the two. Michael, still undetected, is with the group of approaching Waknukians. Michael hopes that they can count on the help the girl from Sealand is promising. She tells them that she is roughly 8 ½ hours away. Sophie momentarily leaves the group and upon her return, she mentions that the Fringe people pursuing them are leaving to fight the Waknuk attack party.  David considers the repercussions if he were to confront his father in battle and join with the Fringe people. Sensing his anxiety, the girl from Sealand urges him to let go of his father, because the way of life his people follow is dying and virtually obsolete. Sophie once again leaves for reconnaissance and returns roughly one hour later saying that the Waknuk group is approaching fast. David communicates with Michael and tells him to stay back from the forefront of the attack to avoid getting hurt so that they can reunite. The girl from Sealand once again contacts the group to let them know that she will be able to arrive an hour earlier than originally planned. Sophie heads back out to see the progress. As she does so, the Fringe people and the Waknuk party clash in a brutal and bloody fight. In the heat of the battle, Gordon shoots Joseph Strorm in the chest with an arrow killing him. The Gordon picks up Sophie who was by his side and they make a run for it. Soon he is pummeled by a downpour of arrows and dies. Sophie attempts to run away and is shot in the arm and neck. She succumbs to her injuries and dies. The Waknuk group begins to have victory over the Fringe people. During the culminating point in the attack, suddenly a craft appears in the sky. Looming over the combat, the violence ceases and some of the fighters flee in fear, while others watch. David manages to find Michael with the battle having stopped. The craft expels a form of cobweb-like substance upon the crowd below and paralyses them all. This substance unfortunately also reaches David and Michael. It has the same effect on them. They both become entirely paralyzed.

Consumed by the web-like substance, David is immobile. He feels Michael worry that perhaps he should have simply run away from the descending craft in fear that it was a trap. They both are reassured by the Sealand girl’s soothing thoughts. The door of the craft opens and out comes a figure. The person is unrecognizable and is dressed in white garments from head to toe. The figure removes the cobwebs from David, Michael, Petra and Rosaline who were also affected by the substance. The girl/woman from Sealand is delighted to see Petra and gushes over her potential and explains how they will train her and endorse her gift. As they prepare to leave, Michael asks about saving Rachel from Waknuk, this however is not a possibility seeing as how the craft runs on fuel and only has a scarce remaining supply. Rosaline inquires about the other web-ridden people in the field below them and the Sealand woman explains that the substance killed them. She explains that is an unfortunate, yet necessary price to pay for the survival of their species. Michael gets Petra to reach Rachel for him and he tells her to tell Rachel that they are all safe and that he promises to retrieve her from Waknuk and that they will go to Sealand together. David, Petra and Rosaline embark upon the vessel. They watch Michael head back to Waknuk as they leave. The craft flies swiftly over the forest and then over a massive ocean. Suddenly in the midst, they see Sealand’s horizon. David recognizes it exactly as the land in his dream. The three hear thoughts buzzing and realize it’s the entire society conversing ahead of them.

On a cliff overlooking the ocean, stands an Native Indian girl named Karana and her young brother Ramo. They chat about the ocean as the Karana digs for roots. Suddenly, Ramo shouts that a ship which is an Aleutian vessel because of the red sails is approaching the island. He darts toward the village to tell the news. Karana continues to dig for roots, but she desperately wants to go to the village. Finally when the basket is full, she hurries to the village. The village is in a bustle. Warriors rush down the narrow trail leading to the coast while woman and children hurry to gather on a mesa overlooking the beach. Karana’s father who is the chief of the tribe stands on the beach awaiting the Aleut boat. The Aleut captain steps out of the small boat and tells the chief that he has come in peace. Karana’s father says that he is the chief, Chief Chowig. The captain says that they have come with forty men to hunt the otters on the coast of Island of the Blue Dolphins. The chief is silent. The captain tells Chief Chowig that he is not like the previous captain who came to the island who forced the Ghalas (the Indian tribe) to hunt for two months without rest. He says that he will do all the hunting and then give the Ghalas one-third of otter pelts. Chief Chowig says that the parts must be equal. The captain after pausing finally agrees.

The next day Karana and her older sister Ulape gather shellfish on the shore. Suddenly large shimmering bass rush up onto the shore. Karana and Ulape look as two massive Killer Whales rush about the school of fish. The fish in terror rush up onto the shore. Ulape shouts to some other women near by to help her and Karana take the large bass to the village. The women folk the beach to gather the fishes being run up on it by the whales. As the women enter the village with the fish, the tribe excitedly surrounds them. It is the first fresh meat in months. That night the Ghalas feast on the fish in celebration. They have a massive festival to celebrate the bountiful harvest.

Over the next few weeks, we learn more about Karana and her family. We see she has a very close relationship with her brother Ramo. He is a mischievous child and Karana often helps him when he finds himself over his head in trouble. He father and mother have a strong bond and are loving parents. Ulape is the typical oldest sister. She cares for her family but ultimately is obsessed with dating the most handsome and strongest warrior. When they are out with their mother gathering food, Ulape leaves them and talks with the boys with her girlfriends.

Also soon after their arrival, the Aleuts prepare to leave the island. It is a cloudy day. The sky is threatening and dark. The captain has not yet paid Chief Chowig. The chief tells the tribe that he is going to confront the captain. The warriors and their chief assemble on the beach to confront the Aleuts. Karana and Ulape with the woman hide in the brushes. The captain and Chief Chowig being to talk loudly on the beach. Ulape tells Karana that father is angry. Suddenly, the captain pulls out a gun and shoots Chief Chowig. Karana leaps to her feet and Ulape screams. The warriors shout the war cries and rush on to the Aleutians. The Aleutians and the Ghalas fight. The women and children on the cliffs begin to hurl rocks onto the Aleutians. Puffs of white smoke rise from the ship. A loud ban is heard and six of the warriors fall dead and many more continue to fall. The Ghalas begin to fall back. The Aleuts pursue the Ghalas. Suddenly a bolt of lightning shoots out of the sky, a loud clap of thunder follows shakings the ground. The captain shouts for his men to fall back and get back to the main ship. The Aleuts leave the island in a hurry. The rain falls in droves. Lightening races across the sky and the wind screams across the island. The women and children run to the village. Their cries of grief are louder than the raging storm. Wounded warriors trickle into the village. Karana kneels by her father’s body crying as the waves crash into the shore. She cries over his body. She is joined by her mother who grieves as well. The storm continues to intensify. Ulape pulls Karana and her mother away and they head back to the village.

The storms last for days as the Ghalas mourn and bury their dead. Karana says that this is the most significant event in the Ghalas history. She says that only fifteen men remain and that twenty-seven had died in the fight. Months pass as we see the Ghalas struggle to survivor. One day, a ship is seen entering the bay. The village leaders order the people to pack up their belongings and head for the canoes hidden on the other side of the island, because it could be the Aleuts. Karana and Ramo head for the canoe, Ramo asks where Ulape is. Suddenly, Ulape races toward the group of villages yelling for them to stop. The village elders ask what is wrong. She says that the ship is not Aleutian but Spanish sailors. She says that a sailor told her that they have come to take the Ghalas to Mexico to live in safety. The elders call a council. After much debate, the elders vote unanimously to go to Mexico to leave. The elders meet with the captain of the ship to arrange the passage to Mexico.

The next day Karana and Ulape pack in a hurry because the ship must leave soon because the winds are going to change. Karana doesn’t want to leave but her mother tells them they must. The people of the island hurry toward the ship and board it. We see Ramo still carrying some items toward the shore as the ship begins to leave. Karana asks a man if he has seen Ramo on the ship. The man says no. They see a boy running along the cliffs shouting. Karana says that it is Ramo and they must go back for him. The man says that the ship will wreck on the rocks if they go back. He says that Ramo has enough food and water to survive for several weeks and that the ship will return in three days to get him. Karana says no and throws her belongings in the water and jumps over the boat into the water. Ulape and her mother shout after Karana to come back, but Karana continues to ship toward the island. Ulape is about to jump overboard when the man tells her that Karana made her choice and that the boat will be back for her and Ramo.

When Karana reaches the shore she finds Ramo. He asks if the boat is coming back. Karana says that the boat will be back in a few days. As they climb up the narrow trail, the wind begin to blow hard. A pack of wild dogs runs through the tall grasses. Karana and Ramo reach the abandoned village. There is no food left at the village. Karana tells Ramo to go out and hunter for some food while she prepares the hut for them to stay in. She tells Ramo to be quick and not get distracted. She says it is just him and her. They embrace. Ramo grabs his bow and arrows and runs outside. Several hours pass and Karana begins to wonder were Ramo is. She grabbing a spear, she runs down the trail were Ramo went down. In the distance she can hear a pack of wild dogs barking. She shouts no and runs at full speed. She sees a pack of dogs circling a body lying on the ground. She hurls her spear at one of the dogs killing it. The other wild dogs take off running. We see Ramo lying on the ground dead. Karana with tears in her eyes cares the body back to the hut. The wind blows hard as she carries Ramo back. The sky grows dark since night is fast approaching. Karana lies Ramo down by the fire and she sits and cries. The screen fades to black.

Days pass as we see Karana try to survive on the island and planning her revenge on the wild dog pack. One day she is canoeing in the ocean and suddenly dolphins leap out of the water all around her. She laughs as the dolphins make funny sounds as they play with each other. We see on the shore a giant herd of elephant seals. Karana paddles over to the herd because she needs the bones of the seals for making more arrows. She cautiously makes her way through the herd undetected. Suddenly, two enormous male seals roar at each other. They begin to fight viciously, slashing each other with their teeth. They roll over and over fighting. Karana leaps out of the way as they almost crush her. She fires and arrow at one of the males. It misses. The male turn around and roars at Karana however the other male taking advantage of the situation grabs the other male by the throat. The male seal tries to shake the other seal off. Its tail smacks Karana in the leg bruising it. The males leap into the water and disappear underneath the waves. Karana decides not to attack the other seals since they know she is here and since her leg hurts.

The next day when she is out canoeing she spots on of the male seals died on the shore. Hundreds of gulls swarm around the body picking the bones clean. Karana gather some of the bones and takes them back to her hut where she makes arrows. After two days of making arrows she is ready to get her revenge on the wild dogs. She creates a fire near the entrance of the dogs cave to smoke them out. She then hides in the brushes. A group of dogs dash out. She quickly kills them. Then out of the cave comes the leader of the pack. He is different than the other dogs. He has silver fur and looks more like a wolf then a dog. He slowly walks out of the cave. Karana lifts her bow to shot him. He looks up at Karana and snarls. She lets the arrow fly. It strikes the dog in the chest. He turns and runs, but then falls down. Two other dogs emerge from the cave. Karana turns from the leader and kills the other dogs. When she turns back to see if the leader of the dogs is dead she finds that he is gone. Karana sees his tracks leading down to the shore. She pursues. She finds the dog lying on the shore still alive. She lifts her spear to kill him, but suddenly lets it drop. She says she can’t. She says she doesn’t want to be alone. She picks up the dog and cares him back to her hut.

We see her over the next few days lovingly take care of him. She names him Rontu. She and Rontu begin to bond. We see them take long walks through the grasses and swim in the ocean together. It has been three months since the Spanish ship left Island of the Blue Dolphins. One day she and Rontu are standing on the cliff overlooking the ocean when she spies a ship coming. It is Aleutian. She quickly runs to her hut and gathers her belongs and heads to the caves on the far side of the island were she will be safe from the Aleuts. She and Rontu spy on the Aleuts. We see a young Aleutian girl the same age as Karana. Karana desperately wants to meet her (she is longing for human interaction) but knows that the Aleuts can’t find out about her. One day while Karana is picking berries, she spies the girl walking toward her. The girl spots Karana. Karana think of throwing her spear at the girl but doesn’t. The girl smiles at Karana and says her name is Tutok. Karana looks at Tutok cautiously. Tutok says that she will not tell the others that Karana is hear. Karana smiles a little and says thank you. Tutok asks Karana’s names. Karana says her name is Karana the girl smiles and laughs and Karana laughs. Karana asks if Tutok if she wants to help her gather berries. Tutok says that she would love to. The girls laugh and talk as they pick the berries. Tutok asks about Karana. Karana tells Tutok the story of her life on the island after the tribe left. Suddenly Rontu barks. Tutok says that the men are coming and Karana should run. Karana grabs the basket and runs with Rontu to the cave.

Over the next few days Karana and Tutok develop a deep friendship. One day Karana awakes to Rontu barking. She runs to the other side of the island. She sees the Aleutian ship ready to set sail. She sees some men still working on the shore. She says that the ship will probably leave first thing tomorrow. The whole day Karana waits for Tutok to come to Karana’s cave but Tutok doesn’t. That night Karana prepares a meal for her and Tutok but still Tutok doesn’t come. Karana sits by the cave entrance waiting for Tutok the entire night. The next day she sees the Aleutian ship leaving. She suddenly starts to cry. She says that she misses Tutok. The sky grows dark and the wind grows cold. Karana stands on the cliff still overlooking the harbor where the Aleut ship once was. The rain beats down on her and a bolt of lightning lights up the sky. Karana still stands and cries. Rontu howls at the sky. Karana says she wants to be with her family. She says she misses her mother, sister, and Tutok. She pleads with the gods to leave the island.

As the months pass Karana grows lonelier on the island. On sunny days, she and Rontu walk along the beach collecting shells and on raining days she sits in her hut which she moved back to thinking of Tutok and making up imaginary conversations with Tutok. On one cold rainy day, she hears Rontu whimpering. She lets him out to go run around outside. The day passes and no Rontu. As night draws near Karana goes and looks for Rontu. She finds him lying down in the cave that the wild dogs once inhabited. He whimpers. She sees that he is dying. Rontu licks Karana’s face. Karana begins to sob. Rontu lays his head down and closes his eyes. The screen goes black.

One day, many weeks later, we see Karana cleaning her hut when suddenly a shadow is cast over her. She screams and turns around. She sees a group of men standing outside. On of the men says that they have come back for Karana to take her to her people. Karana smiles with joy and brings to cry. She with the help of the men, take her few belongs to the ship. Karana stands on the ship looking back on the Island of the Blue Dolphins. She says that she will miss her island and her home but is looking forward to meeting her tribe once again. She then walks to the front of the ship. The sun sets in a beautiful display as dolphins leap out in front of the ship. The water is thrown into Karana face. She throws back her head and then closed her eyes. The camera pans out and we see her open her arms and embrace the freedom of the wind and sea. Dolphins leap in front of the ship. The screen goes black.

The female bluebird flies towards the two birds... straight into the chicken’s feathers leaving the two hilariously heartbroken, slow dancing in each other arms.

Movie:

On the first day of spring, a lone egg is bounced all throughout the park only to be found by a aloof yet caring hawk, Father Hawk, the leader of the park animals. The egg hatches, revealing it to be a curious newborn pigeon. Father Hawk begins to care for a week and bonds with it adopting the child as his own son, naming him Son Pigeon at first but goes with Pigeon at the end, realizing how stupid “Son Pigeon” sounds. Growing up Pigeon becomes more curious and inventive. Pigeon makes a machine, meant for food retrieving, that almost kills Pigeon, Father Hawk takes a stance against Pigeon’s ideas and moves the pack to the secluded of the park for safety reasons.

A title card humorously reads “An unspecified amount of time later, probably near winter.” Pigeon leads the fellow animals at the park as prepare to store food for the winter. Quiz, the owl alerts, Pigeon that the people have arrived. Heinretta, the bunny acts adorable in front of unsuspecting audience. Mask, a raccoon manages to steal the food without being noticed. Red, a cardinal instructs Bones, a turtle, how to operate the get away vehicle (which is a remote controlled car). Pigeon, watches from above the tree, asking Quiz the progress so far. Mask and Red bring the food to the vehicle, and try to get away. However, Bones forgets how to drive and accidentally crashes the vehicle into the lake, losing the food.

The animals meet up back at Father Hawk’s tree. Father Hawk asks how the annual hunt went. Pigeon tries to sugarcoat the truth but Bones accidentally reveals what happened. Father Hawk although disappointed, is glad everyone is okay and that they have enough food for everyone. Father Hawk asks to talk to Pigeon alone. Father Hawk sternly tells Pigeon although he means well, that sometimes it’s best to stick to what they do best and follow the natural order, claiming one day, leadership will be Pigeon’s and the animals will look towards him for wisdom. Pigeon tries to tell his father he doesn’t want to be a leader but gets interrupted repeatedly. Pigeon dismayed decides to visit his friend Fluffles to hang out. The two vent about their problems. Pigeon talks his father issues. Fluffles says he relate to that, talks about how after his litter was born, his father, a pageant winner was promptly sold but remarks that’s purebred life for you. The two then drink milk, both getting in a drunk like state with Fluffles being over emotional about the day they meet and how they became friends after he tried to eat him, (commenting even though it they bonded overnight, it felt like both a lifetime and sort of like 5 minutes at the same time, along with how he never knew his father and how his mother wouldn’t stop eating). Pigeon flies home for evening despite Fluffles believing he’s not okay to fly. The next day, a panicked Quiz comes in with troubling news, holding a flyer claiming in 3 weeks, their park will be shut down. Although the animals are dismayed, Father Hawk sends Pigeon, Carl and Quiz on recon around the city to find them a new home, while the others hunt for food.

After flying around the city to find a new home, including a Chuck E Cheese style arcade (which terrifies the trio after seeing a game of Whack-A-Mole with Ducks.), a luxurious birdhouse (the trio gets kicked out because of a snooty bird not wanting wild animals in his house), and a railroad track (where they try to outrun a train, only to realize at the last second they can fly), they settle on a dumpster behind bowling alley. Quiz and Red fly home quickly, meanwhile Pigeon picks up some left over nachos. Unfortunately, a group of vicious dogs corners Pigeon and are about to eat him. Luckily, a woman defends Pigeon by smacking the dogs around using her purse, causing them to scuttle off. The woman kindly tells Pigeon he’s safe now and walks away. Pigeon however finds that she lefts blueprints for something, and attempts to give it back, but loses her. Pigeon flies back to the tree, telling Father Hawk he’ll be out searching on his own for more homes during the next 2 weeks. Although suspicious, worried and very reluctant, Father Hawk trusts Pigeon, telling him to be safe and to come back soon. The two embrace and Pigeon leaves.

Looking for outside help, Pigeon visits Fluffles’ owners mansion flying inside the pet door. Fluffles happily greets his friend, offering him some food. Pigeon is confused since Fluffles hates sharing food. Fluffles reveals that his owner has put him on a diet, and that the food is the one thing he won’t eat and he’s tries to get rid off it. Pigeon and Fluffles hang out for a bit watching TV. Pigeon reveals how the park is being torn down and his story of him flying around the city. Fluffles offers Pigeon to stay at his home, but Pigeon says he can’t leave his friends alone. Pigeon asks Fluffles if he can help him find the woman showing him the paper. Fluffles analyzes the blueprint realizes it is for a race car with a red C, possibly for a racer who signed up for the race his owner, Bill Leon Bucks, (who Pigeon comments on how his name sounds like a poorly placed pun) created. Fluffles also reveals that the winner of the race a cash prize over $10,000,000 and a luxury home with a huge garden. Giving Pigeon an idea, that if they can get the someone to win, his friends can have a home. However they can’t find out where she lives. Fluffles says his owner keeps the files of the racers in a cabinet in Bucks’ study room. Pigeon and Fluffles work together to sneak into the room only for Pigeon to find Bucks, reading a best selling novel called “Soren loses Oscar” Pigeon convinces Fluffles to distract Bucks by asking for more food, much to Fluffles’ dismay, while he finds the paper. Fluffles begs for food effectively distracting Bucks for a while. Pigeon searches for the files that match, while Fluffles sadly downs six bowls of diet cat food that Bucks gives him. Getting the address, Pigeon thanks Fluffles for the help and flies off with the blueprint and the address.

Pigeon flies across town to the outskirts finding a badly in shape house, with the blueprint in hand. However, the door is locked, so Pigeon sneaks into the chimney, sleeping there for the night. In the morning, an old woman screams, waking up the family. We see a baby also join in the screeching, four kids in awe asking if they can keep Pigeon, presumably parents in their middle age also wake up, and finally the woman from before who saved Pigeon. Pigeon attempts to give her the blueprint, only to be chased around the house by the woman but Pigeon manages to give her the paper. The woman realizes it’s the Pigeon she saved early. Thanking him for delivering the paper, she introduces herself, revealing her name is Carly, she also introduces him to her family, and allows him to stay for the day. Carly leaves for work but Pigeon follows her. Carly hides Pigeon in her purse, revealing she works as a mechanic. Pigeon helps her fix the cars, discovering he has a talent for it. Pigeon also learns how rude her customers are and Carly’s love for racing. Carly decides to take Pigeon out for a drive. The two meet two rude teenagers who challenge them to a race. During a madcap street race, Carly wins showing talent for racing.

Pigeon convinces Carly through a game of charades, to apply. Carly tells her family about this and they support her despite some uncertainty. Pigeon flies home to ask his friends to cover for him knowing Father Hawk might not approve. Throughout the week, Pigeon helps her build the car, the best he can and the two bond. The two finally reach the arena, seeing hundreds of racers. The two then meet Victory Dash, the three time champ who wishes them good luck in a sarcastic tone. Bucks, holding Fluffles happily greets the racers with open arms. Pigeon asks why is he here, Fluffles comments that he doesn’t know and he woke up a few minutes ago, wishing his friend luck. The first race is around a gigantic race track, the first twenty five to complete the track get an entry. The races go on and twenty racers have been chosen leaving Carly for the final race.

Fifty cars line up on a race track. Carly makes a nervous final run through on her car, while Pigeon is excited to start. Engines rev up and smoke flies in the air. A disgruntled official starts the race and all the cars except for Carly’s zoom by at blazing speeds leaving him humorously in his underwear, commenting how he doesn’t get paid enough. Carly realizes that she didn’t start and quickly drives. Pigeon begins telling orders on what to do but Carly barely understands and fumbles driving backwards but she manages to get into 7th place. Pigeon excitedly cheers her on. One racer tries to hit her causing her to swerve fast like a spinning top leading ahead into sixth place barely behind the driver in fifth. Carly manages to drive into fifth place, barely winning.

Although Carly manages to get 20th place, she barely makes it and her car is outclassed by the others. Pigeon discovers she has talent but gets nervous and can easily lose her nerve. Carly reveals to Pigeon that she never wanted to be a mechanic but she had to be one and still is afraid to be a racer due to her family’s lack of money and if she could do it, and that this was her chance to make both things right even tearing up a bit. Seeing a lot of himself in Carly, Pigeon gives Carly a reassuring nuzzle to cheer her up. The two work on their car, tricking it out completely and Pigeon helps boost her racing confidence by supporting her, practicing more racing in different areas like on a beach, playing a Mario Kart style game, and showing her how he can fly blind.

The next race is in the mountains.

The cars line up outside a giant cave. As the official starts the race but this time in a suit of two pair of clothes. All of the cars blaze off, disintegrating the first pair. The official happily laughs seeing his clothes still being in tact jumping in the air. However when he lands they turn into dust. We see the racers race. Carly is 20th place, noticing how dark the cave, Pigeon turns on the headlights lighting up their path. Carly uses a shortcut, to a seemingly harmless path. The path is full of mirror like rocks and luminous substance. Carly comments on how that was easy and how they see the other few racers. However, a swarm of bats rush out distracting them. Pigeon attempts to talk to the bats but they lift up their car. Carly manages to distract them with phony bat noises. The two get out to the base of the mountain. The Road although rocky, the two use the experience from the video game to overcome it. However, they accidentally cause an avalanche. The two speed up and drift to avoid the snow and barely make it. Carly is able to get tenth place and 5 racers are eliminated.

Pigeon and Carly celebrate by having a small party together, promising that when the win, the two will have the best life. Pigeon late at night goes to visit Father Hawk. Father Hawk happily embraces his son, saying how he missed him and asks about the progress for their new home. Pigeon and Father Hawk have a heart to heart conversation, Father Hawk reveals he wanted Pigeon to have something, a family heirloom (which is a paperclip necklace) and reveals how he lost his family to humans and machinery. Pigeon tells his father that he must go promising to return soon. The next day, the third race is on the beach.

The cars line up on the peach sand in the beach. The official appears again but this time he sports a suit of armor. The cars blaze off, causing the official to be part of his armor stuck to one car, and is flung out to the bleachers in the nude. Carly knowing the beach environment takes advantage of what she practiced and make it into the top 10 with much ease. However to Pigeon and Carly’s surprise, some of the cars sink into the sand. Bucks revealed to all players through the radio that to make the race more fun and challenging he bought in patches of quicksand. Despite the two’s initial panic, Pigeon realizes that the patches of light sand are the quicksand and alerts Carly. Carly manages to narrowly avoid the quicksand and make it into seventh place. Bucks then reveals that he added tire piercing spikes to add to the fun. Carly manages to barely avoid the crabs despite one of tire being blown she makes it to fifth place

Throughout the course of the next two races, Carly slowly gains the respect and admiration of the other racers. Dash notices her slow climb grows jealous along with feeling threatened (of not only losing the race but potentially losing sponsors) and he starts cheating on the races but Carly still improves. Bucks reveals that the final course is a race around the state filled with obstacles along the way such as slippery roads, sharp objects, angry bats and a few surprises. Taking 2nd place and making it to the final 8. Carly and Pigeon celebrate again along with her family. Carly reveals to Pigeon on that her family at first was against the idea but supported her due to her happiness on how Pigeon was her first real friend in a while, thanking him for inspiring and believing in her. Pigeon gives her a hug comforting her. Pigeon is inspired by the love Carly and her family have to be honest with Father Hawk.

Pigeon flies home as fast to tell Father Hawk. Father Hawk is happy to see Pigeon, asking about the new places he’s seen. Pigeon reveals he found a way to get the park open by his elaborate plan. Father Hawk dismisses the idea, angry at Pigeon for wasting time used to help and lying to him and putting himself in danger, claiming it’s better off otherwise to stick to the usual. Pigeon angrily says he doesn’t want to be a leader, calling Father Hawk out for how he lets fear rule him. However, lightning strikes the tree causing it to go up in flames. Father Hawk is injured, leaving him unable to fly, and knocked out, by going back in for food but is saved by Pigeon. Pigeon, thinking of a plan, makes a trip to Fluffles home, with him and the other animals carrying Father Hawk there. Fluffles, although annoyed due to how late it is, feels empathy and allows them refuge on the condition they don’t mess with his things and they eat his horrendous diet food. Pigeon, in grief, leaves the animals with Fluffles, promising to come back when he makes things right.

Pigeon tries to fly back in time for the race but gets kidnapped by Victory Dash. Dash assumes that Pigeon has been helping Carly win races and uses that to his advantage. The next morning, Carly wakes up without Pigeon, searching all over the house for him. Her family attempt to help and comfort her saying she’ll do fine, but Carly assumes he ran away. Heartbroken, she nonetheless decides to go the final race, alone. Fluffles is about to leave for the trip, when Father Hawk regains consciousness asking where Pigeon is. Fluffles reveals Pigeon left for the race. Father Hawk is annoyed that Pigeon disobeyed him, but Fluffles says not only should he should’ve supported Pigeon more but how his fear controlled his life. Realizing how inconsiderate he was, and what fear has done to him, Father Hawk asks to go with Fluffles so he can apologize to Pigeon. The other animals also want to tag along as well. Fluffles sneaks them into his luxury pet cage (which is humorously big enough for all of them, which Quiz questions the logic behind this claiming it’s too unrealistic). After a drive, they head to the starting area. They see Victory Dash holding some kind of cage. Father Hawk hears Pigeon crying for help in a cage, and theorized that Dash kidnapped Pigeon.

Pigeon desperately tries to escape from his cage, but nothing works. Pigeon breaks down believing himself to be a failure. With the help of the other animals creating a diversion, involving Mask stealing the keys, Fluffles and Father Hawk saves Pigeon. Pigeon apologizes to Father Hawk for having stupid dreams. Father Hawk, wipes the tears out of Pigeon’s eyes, saying he has a good heart. Father Hawk also apologizes for disregarding Pigeon aspirations, accepting him for who he is. Fluffles comments on how bonding moments like this in almost every kid movie, but says Pigeon has a race to win. Pigeon flies to search for Carly with the two happily reunite and reconcile just in time. Victory Dash, watches furiously from afar, knocking it up a notch, souped up his car.

As the race starts, Dash cheats his way to the top using oil slicks and glass shard sprayer. Carly narrowly dodged all of the obstacles. Neck and neck, Carly manages to take the lead but Dash slams into Carly’s car, knocking Pigeon out of the car, unconscious. Conflicted on whether to cross the line or to help Pigeon, Carly runs onto the race track and saves Pigeon. Dash wins but the two finish the race in second place. However, cameras catch him cheating and Dash is disqualified and Carly wins the prize and the audience, the other racers, animals and her family celebrate.

1 month later, the animals and Carly’s family move into their new mansion, and a huge party is thrown. Dash has been revealed to become a mailman. Carly and Pigeon drive into the sunset. A title card “but if you think Pigeon stops at racing, that’s when you’re wrong.”

A colorful hand drawn end credits sequence is made to look the illustrations from the Pigeon books.

Hills Abduction

Date- June 28th

Genre- Sci-Fi Thriller/Mockumentary

Rating- PG-13

Theaters- 2,998 theaters

Budget- 10 million

Running Time- 89 minutes or 1 hour and 29 minutes

Studio- O$corp Pictures

Director- Timur Bekmambetov

Plot: (The film tells the story of the Barney and Betty Abduction. The film shows the nightmares and psychiatrist sessions in flashbacks. We do actually see the aliens on the ship testing Barney and Betty.)

The Hills were an interracial couple. Barney, a 39 year-old black man, worked for the postal service, and Betty, a 41 year-old white woman, was a supervisor for the child welfare department. Because of Barney's ulcer problems, the two had embarked on a vacation into Canada. On September 19, they began their journey back home. At about 10:00 PM, Barney, who was driving, saw a star, which seemed to move erratically. He told Betty about it, and they both kept tabs on it as they drove along. They were just north of North Woodstock, when Barney noticed that the star was moving in a very unusual manner. When they arrived at Indian Head, they stopped their car, and got out to have a better look. Using binoculars, Barney zoomed in what he thought was a star. This was no star! He could make out different colors of lights and see several rows of windows around a flying craft. The object moved closer, and now Barney could actually see people inside the ship. The next thing the Hills recalled was being frightened by the unusual flying object, and the occupants inside of it. Barney scurried back to the car where Betty was waiting. They jumped into the car, and raced down the highway. Looking for the object, they found that it was now gone. As they drove on, they began to hear a beeping sound... once, then again. Although they had been driving only a couple of minutes, they were 35 miles down the road. Betty and Barney finally arrived home safely. After seeing the UFO, the rest of their trip home had been uneventful. They were tired from their journey, and immediately went to bed. When Betty awoke the next day, she telephoned Janet, her sister, and told her about the strange object they had seen. Janet urged her to call Pease Air Force Base, and tell them what her and Barney had seen. After hearing Betty's report, Major Paul W. Henderson, told her: "The UFO was also confirmed by our radar." At least the Hills were not seeing things, and they were trying to put the incident behind them. But soon Betty began to have nightmares. In her dreams she would see her and her husband being physically forced into some type of craft. Before long, two writers heard about the Hill's story, and contacted them. The Hills, with the aid of the writers, compiled a time chart of the events of September 19. There could be no doubt that the couple had lost about two hours of time somewhere along the way. As news of the UFO sighting became more commonplace, the Hills were forced to hide from reporters as much as possible. Because of the missing time element, and the desire to know what, if anything, had happened during that time, they decided to contact a psychiatrist. They decided on Boston psychiatrist and neurologist, Dr. Benjamin Simon, well known in his field. He would come to play an important role in the Hill abduction story. His suggestion for treatment was regressive hypnosis, which would hopefully unlock the memories of the two missing hours of time. His sessions began with Betty, and soon Barney followed. After six months of treatment, it was Simon's opinion that the Hills had been abducted and taken aboard an unknown craft. Regressive hypnosis, a controversial treatment, is often used to unlock lost memories. It has been used in a number of other alien abduction cases, including The Buff Ledge Abductions and The Allagash Abductions. Some of the memories that were uncovered from the Hills included that their automobile had stalled on the road. The UFO had landed in the middle of the road, and alien beings came to their car, carrying both Betty and Barney to the UFO. They were subjected to various medical and scientific tests. Before the aliens released them, they were hypnotized and ordered to keep their capture a secret. During the intensive regression sessions, the Hills would describe their captors as "... bald-headed alien beings, about five foot tall, with greyish skin, pear shaped heads and slanting cat-like eyes." This description very much described what would become known as the "greys," now a standard description for the small beings with large heads, small mouths, and little or no ears, and hairless. Also details were released about the actual procedures performed on the Hills. Both physical and mental experiments were conducted. Samples were taken of their skin, hair, and nails. Betty had gynecological testing, and Barney reluctantly revealed that sperm samples were taken from him. The film ends with the narrator questioning the existence of aliens and saying that they facts support it.

He says he must have just heard things and goes back to bed. The film moves to a man named Arnie Westrum. He is the flagman at the GS&WM Railroad. He takes over for another coworker and its in a small heated shed by the crossing. He also hears the howl but ignores it thinking it is the wind. He lights a cigarette and waits for morning. He suddenly hears scratching at the door and he ignores it but then it grows louder and suddenly there is a heavy thud. He leaps up in alarm. The door begins to break and a snout of a massive wolf appears. Arnie grabs a pick to defend himself. The door breaks and he sees the yellow eyes of a massive wolf standing on its hind legs. The wolf springs at him with a snarl and Arnie swings the pick. He miss and the wolf rips him to shreds. The camera pans over the shed and we hear a scream. Blood is splattered over the snow.

Cycle of the Werewolf

The opens back up at Marty’s home in the morning. It is a snow day and several of his friends come over to play. We see that Marty is bound to a wheelchair. His friends treat him as an equal along with his mother. His father however is embarrassed by his son’s physical disability and talks down to him like he is mental handicap. This causes tension between Marty’s father and mother who have a rocky relationship. A neighbor comes over and asks if they heard about the death last night. Marty’s mother says she hasn’t. The neighbor explains that Arnie Westrum was killed. She says that the police believe he was struck by a train in the heavy snow. Marty’s mother says that is terrible. The neighbor explains that she went down to the scene and says that the shed was destroyed. She says she doesn’t believe the cops. Marty’s mother asks her what she thinks it was then. The neighbor says, “Something evil.” and leaves. Marty’s mother shakes her head. She says the neighbor woman was always a bit odd. Marty and his friends over hear this and they decide to sneak out. The make their way down to the scene. They see police analyzing the scene. The shed is destroyed and blood is splattered everywhere. The boys make a noise and the police notice them. They tell them they need to leave. News spreads through the town and rumors of a serial killer begin to float about despite the police telling people it was an accidental death.

The film moves to February and we see, a depressed, unmarried, and impoverished seamstress, named Stella Randolph. She lies on her bed surrounded by love letter written to her 1980’s heartthrobs.  It Valentine's Day and she drinks heavily. She bemoans her pitiful life and the love she could have. Se hears a noise outside of her window. She sees a dark shape that is clearly masculine outside her window. She opens the window believing it is a lover. The figure enters her bedroom. She throws herself on her bed telling the figure to love her and that love has finally come. She closes her eyes and feels the figures fingers scratch down her breast and bosom. She moans in delight. She reaches up to feel the man’s back but instead feels hair. She opens her eyes and sees a wolf staring down at her. She screams in surprise. A blast of air enters the open window and the roses petal and cards on her bed fly around them almost romantically. The beast rips her bosom open with its claws. She reaches up and grabs the beast by its head and stars into its yellow eyes. She says, “Lover” and then falls dead.

The death of Stella only adds fuel to the serial killer rumors and the once peaceful town grows in fear. Marty’s mother enforces strike curfew hours and she bars up the windows and gets even more locks for the doors. Marty’s father thinks his wife is overthinking the situation. He grows frustrated with her and leaves to stay a motel. Marty begins to become fascinated with the mystery. He and his friends decide to solve the mysterious deaths. During an intense blizzard during the month of March, virtually the entire town loses its power. While several members of the town are unable to sleep during the power outage because of the cold, they hear a wolf howling. A homeless drifter is found by Marty on his way to school with his friends in the morning. Wolf prints are found frozen in the snow around the body. This is the first discovered evidence of a non-human killer. Marty and his friends flee the scene in terror and notify the authorities. The town is in fear and begins to issue curfews. The police and a majority of the towns people refuse to believe it is a non-human killer. Small groups though like Marty’s neighbor believe it is a werewolf. Marty and his friends grow more and more fascinated with the mystery of a werewolf.

The film moves to April and the weather is warming up and the town begins to grow less wary as the days last longer. The townsfolk decide to have a celebration to celebrate the return of the warm weather, which promises sunlight and safety. They have a gathering at Grace Baptist Church. Marty’s family attended. Marty goes plays with his friends, one named Brady Kincaid. His friend Brady shows him the new kite he got from his parents. They decide to run off away from the church and play with it in a nearby field. While in the field, they chat about school and the murders. Marty says he thinks it is a werewolf. The other kids laugh at him saying he is crazy because werewolves don’t exist. Brady says Marty needs to get a new hobby. Marty laughs and says he probably does. He says he just wants to find out what is behind the murders. Brady says they are kids and this isn’t their concern. He says that is the grow-ups problem to figure out. Marty nods. They continue to play with the kite. They soon realize it is getting dark and decide to head home. Brady breaks off from the group as he lives on the far side of town. Having realized that he has stayed out too late, Brady starts run home. Upon doing this, Brady tells himself he has to hurry home in order to avoid a beating from his father, but in reality he is afraid of a werewolf. He runs and tells himself werewolves don’t exist. Suddenly, there is a shattering roar that fills in the night sky. Brady screams in terror. He looks behind him and sees a wolf running behind him on two legs. Its eyes glare like two yellow lamps. The werewolf grabs the kites and rips it to shreds. Brady runs at full speed away but it caught by the werewolf. The werewolf manages with its teeth to grab him by his legs and throws him into the air. Brady lands hard on the ground. He tries to crawl away crying and screaming for help. The camera pans away and his screams are drowned out. The next morning Brady is found the next day by his parents only a few yards from his home. He is decapitated and disemboweled. Marty hears about the death of his friend and swears he will find the killer. Marty’s family attends the funeral and the town is immediately thrown back into a state of fear.

The film moves to Grace Baptist Church and we see Reverend Lester Lowe preaching a vibrant sermon to a packed congregation. It is the May Homecoming Sunday and the church is packed. H preaches on how “The Beast Walks Among Us” and how evil is real. He says constantly repeats they phrase, “The Beast Walks Among Us” with almost poetic rhythm. He warns the congregation that evil is present in all places and at all times. As Lowe continues to preach, the congregation began to transform in beasts. They begins to snarl and snap at the air howling in the house of God. Lowe does not cease preaching and screams, “The Beast is Everywhere! The Beast is Everywhere”. Eventually, Lowe began to transform himself but he continues to scream his phrase. He just as he is about to transform full, he awakens to find out it was a nightmare. The next day, Sunday, Reverend Lowe finds Clyde Corliss, a janitor at the church, gutted on the pulpit when he arrives to open the church. The town immediately is thrown into a panic.

The film moves to Alfie Knopfler, owner of the Chat n' Chew, a diner, is considering closing early, as it is near high school graduation, and he has no customers, when a customer enters and orders coffee. The customer is covered by a hood and sits quietly and drinks the coffee. As Alfie surmises that he looks sick and probably will not stay long, the customer transforms before his eyes into a werewolf. Alfie, a Navy veteran, puts up somewhat of a struggle, but is killed relatively easily. He dies while looking at the moonlight through the window, the beast howls at the full moon over his body.

In July, the town's Independence Day fireworks have been canceled because of the string of murders. This is very upsetting to Marty, who has been looking forward to them all year. Marty’s father who has returned home, mocks Marty saying Marty is now 11 and too old to care about fireworks. Because he feels bad for him, Marty's Uncle Al brings him fireworks, warning Marty to set them off really late at night so that his mother will not find out. The film moves to Marty outside enjoying his own private Independence Day celebration. As he is outside, he sees two yellow eyes peering at him from the bushes. Marty wheels his chair closer to look, thinking it might be some sparks from the fireworks. Suddenly a werewolf rises from out of the bushes. Marty looks up in horror realizing he has been right. The beast smells the air and snarls. It begins to walk toward Marty slowly. Marty begins to wheel away but it knocked from his chair by the beast. Before the beast can attack, Marty reaches a fire a package of black cat firecrackers into the werewolf’s left eye. The wolf howls in pain and flees. Marty’s parents and uncle come out saying they hear a noise. Marty says he was attacked by a werewolf. Marty’s uncle calls the police.

The film moves to the month of August and Constable Neary is getting his hair cut at the barber shop and is discussing the killer with the other patrons of the barber shop. It is revealed that Marty has described the killer as a werewolf, not a person, and that he had been sent to live with relatives in Stowe, Vermont for the remainder of the summer, as the Maine State Police are fearful that the killer may return to kill Marty out of vengeance. Marty also suffers from PTSD from the attack and will recover better if he is away from Tarker's Mills.  The police believe the PTSD plus Marty hearing the stories of a werewolf at school, have juxtaposed the image of a wolf and the human killer together in Marty’s mind. The police also ignore the fact that Marty claims the killer is now missing his left eye. While one of the patrons of the barber shop suggests that the killer wears a costume, Neary dismisses it, saying the killer is purely human, and may be completely insane, possibly not even aware that he has committed the murders.

Later that night, Neary is attacked in his truck by the werewolf. Remembering the discussion about a werewolf costume, Neary attempts to pull a mask off of the killer, realizing too late that no mask exists. He does see the beast only has one eye. The werewolf enraged at Neary grabbing its face, slashes Neary across the face ripping skin off. Blood splatters everywhere. The werewolf drags him out of the car by his throat and begins to shred him with its claws. The werewolf begins to throw Neary around in a playful manner. The werewolf finally kills a still alive Neary off with a bite to the face, crushing his skull. The beats feeds on Neary’s remains.

Autumn has arrived and the film moves to Elmer Zinneman hearing his entire pen of pigs being attacked. While initially planning to shoot at a natural predator, Elmer abandons these plans when he hears a wolf howl. He remains inside afraid the wolf. Later on, Elmer goes outside to see something huge and black running into the woods. He sees his pigs have been completely slaughtered. Elmer's brother Pete comes over later that day and the men discuss how much of the loss will be covered by insurance. Pete mentions the wolf track evident in the mud, and notes that even he knows that those tracks belong to a wolf. Pete believes that it is a werewolf. Later on, both Elmer and Pete discuss going hunting for the werewolf/wolf.

The film moves back to Marty who has returned back to the town for Halloween. Marty returns to the town to be with his parents and friends. Also no human has been attacked since August and the town is beginning to relax. To celebrate, Marty goes trick-or-treating with his friends, but although he is ostensibly just trick-or-treating, he is also looking for a man or a woman missing his or her left eye. He manages to convince his friends to join him. While out, he sees the Reverend Lowe wearing an eye patch (Lowe and Marty had not seen each other since Marty left the town in July). He and Reverend Lowe stare at each other. He realizes that Reverend Lowe is the werewolf. He quickly rushes home leaving his friends confused.

During this same time, Elmer and Pete Zinneman, along with dozens of others, begin going into the woods, waiting to shoot the werewolf/wolf. Although the hunters do not carry silver bullets, and hunt on days when the moon is not full, they are not looking for a mythological creature, but rather some sort of cryptid or large wolf. We see that most of the hunters are hunting for fun (Marty’s father among them), in order to be away from their wives, drink, and tell jokes which include racial and ethnic slurs.

The film moves to the abandoned church where Reverend Lowe, realizing he may kill another innocent victim, or be discovered himself. It is several days after Halloween and Lowe has barely been able to control himself. He also receives anonymous letters from Marty who says he knows he is the killer. Marty says Lowe must end this curse on his own. Marty at first writes that he knows Lowe is the werewolf. The following letter states that if Lowe is a man of God he must leave town. He must go to a place with no people to kill. The third letter however Marty then asks with kid like innocence, “End it. Why don’t you kill yourself?” Lowe is upset by these letters and become paranoid. He decides to flee town. However, in order to avoid the hunters, Lowe decides to travel to Portland, Maine and check into a hotel. At this point, Lowe, who had at first been reluctant about his curse, which he has no idea how he contracted, has more or less gone insane, and though not actually embracing his curse, acknowledged that all things serve the will of God. After traveling to Portland, Lowe kills Milt Sturmfuller, a resident of Tarker's Mills, who is known as a notorious wife-batterer. It is learned that Sturmfuller has been systematically traveling to Portland to cheat on his wife. After one night in Portland, Sturmfuller contracts genital herpes, when he returns home, martially rapes his wife, and passes the disease onto her. While walking from his hotel room back in Portland, which is the room adjacent to the one that Lowe has purchased, Sturmfuller is decapitated by the werewolf/Lowe in a brutal and violent way. Before Sturmfuller dies he confesses his evils and sins. Lowe begins to realize he might have a divine reason for becoming a werewolf.

By December, the town of Tarker's Mills is beginning to return to normal, as there has not been a known murder by the killer since Neary in August. However, some residents, such as Elmer Zinneman, point out that his pigs, and the four deer found slaughtered in the woods in October, could have been killed by the werewolf (Sturmfuller's death goes virtually unnoticed as he is far from a model citizen, and he is not linked to the Tarker's Mills murders as he is murdered in Portland). Marty continues to send Lowe anonymous letters asking why he does not kill himself and end the terror. On Christmas, he sends the last letter - signed with his name. Lowe realizing Marty knows his secret decides to kill Marty. Meanwhile, Marty shares with Uncle Al his findings and about the letters. Uncle Al is furious Marty wrote those letters and signed his name on the final one. He says Marty should have gone to the police immediately. Marty however states that the police failed to believe him after he was attacked in July and why would they believe him now. He says that he told the police about how he shot out the left eye of the beast and how suddenly after July Reverend Lowe had a eye-patch on his left eye after a “mysterious accident.” Marty says that nobody will believe him because he is a child and disabled. He also says that the townsfolk ignored Lowe because they believe a man of God can do no wrong or evil. Uncle Al reluctantly believes Marty and says they will have to do this on their own. Uncle Al makes two silver bullets and will come spend New Year's Eve (which falls on the full moon) with him.

The film moves to New Year’s Eve. Right before midnight, the werewolf breaks into the house to kill Marty. Uncle Al is shocked and horrified at the discovery the werewolf is real. The beast drags its claws on the wall. It glares at Marty with its one yellow eye. Its large white teeth snap at the air as it moves toward Marty. Uncle Al lunges at the beast and the two fight. After an intense fight, Uncle Al is knocked out. The beast moves toward Marty. Marty trembling raises the gun and says, “Poor Reverend Lowe it is time to go home.” He fires the gun. The werewolf howls in pain. The beast lunges at Marty snapping at Marty’s face.  Marty fires again. The werewolf throws itself against the wall in agony and pain. Blood is splattered everywhere. Marty’s parents come bursting in at the commotion. They are taken aback by what they see. The beast collapses to the floor dead. Uncle Al reawakens. Marty says that he killed the beast and begins to cry. We see the body of Lowenow human on the ground covered in blood. Marty’s mother calls the police and they carry the body of Lowe away to be burned. The townsfolk remain in the dark about the werewolf even though it comes to light that Lowe was the killer. Many people are shocked by this and believe Lowe just went crazy. Marty’s life goes back to normal. Marty’s father realizing he has been wrong about Marty begins to treat Marty as a son. The Cycle of the Werewolf ends almost exactly a year after it began.

Kratos was a fearsome Spartan warrior, and grew his fifty-man squad into an army of thousands via strategy, tactics, ferocity and conquest. However, in a battle against a barbarian horde, his army was massacred, and, in a desperate measure, Kratos offered his life and service to Ares, the God of War along with also being the strongest god, in exchange for Ares defeating the Barbarians. Ares, sensing enormous power in Kratos, accepted his offer and destroyed the Barbarians. He also granted Kratos the Blades of Chaos, curved blades forged in the pits of Hades that were attached to long chains which were fused to Kratos' arms.

Kratos then became Ares' servant, leading his Spartan army in conquering much of Greece. In one battle, they came across a village that worshiped Athena and put the residents to the sword, and their homes to the flame. There, Ares put Kratos into a blood lust driven rage and it made him kill anyone standing in his way. Despite his own foreboding feelings and the warnings of the local oracle, Kratos entered the village's temple and slaughtered all within. Unfortunately, after his blood-lust cleared, he realized that his two last victims had been his own wife and daughter; Ares explained that this village had been a test of Kratos' power, severing the last of his humanity. The village Oracle cursed Kratos, binding the ashes of his dead family to his skin; this new pale coating gave rise to Kratos' new title, "the Ghost of Sparta." and it made everyone in Greece fear him. Kratos renounced his service to Ares and began to wander the Earth, lamenting his deeds, while serving the other gods of Olympus for ten years.

Kratos approaches Athena's city, Athens, hired by Poseidon to take down the Hydra. Stopping at a tavern near a beach for drinks, striking a conversation with the bartender, the Hydra suddenly appears near the coast wrecking havoc.

Kratos dives into the water, swimming at superhuman speeds, approaches the Hydra. The Hydra lets out a fearsome roar, and uses one of it’s many heads to attack Kratos, but spilts the head into two halves just in time. Diving quickly using Guerilla tactics, Kratos using his blades stab the Hydra in the gut and climbs up the Hydra using his blades. The Hydra uses its numerous heads to knock Kratos off in the ocean. Leaping out, Kratos gets swallowed whole by one of the heads, only for Kratos to cut off the Hydra’s head from the inside. Coated with green blood, Kratos makes another slice at the beast, taking out another head. However the beast forms numerous replacement heads much to Kratos’s chargin. Kratos running on the necks of the beast, manages to get the heads all tied together leaving on the main head. Kratos kicks the ball of heads in the Hydra’s mouth and slices the head off.

After impaling the massive heads of the fearsome Hydra, Kratos sees Ares’ army of the undead invade Athens, with Athena’s army heavily outmatched.

Kratos approaches Ares’ undead army. Ares’ telepathically speaks through the head of the army’s general, Angry at Kratos’ betrayal but give him three options: Run away and never return, join Ares again or die fighting. Kratos with much sarcasm says the decisions are so difficult and fights Ares’ army. Hundreds of soldiers charge at him, but Kratos using his blades, spins around in a raging fury, with each member of charging soldiers getting stabbed, ripping off limbs, torsos, and heads flying apart rapidly. More soldiers decide to charge once again, but Kratos wanting more of a challenge puts away his blades fighting them off with his bare hands, using and sharpen the bones of a fallen soldier as an axe. Angrily, Ares uses his cannons to open fire at Kratos. Kratos dodges all of the cannonballs, and even catching one is his hand, throwing them back at the soldiers. Ares then decides to give to the general into a hulking skeletal beast. Although at first, outmatched by Ares’ abomination, but using his blades again, he rips apart the general, pulling out bones and decaying flesh like a gigantic game of Jenga.

Kratos fights off the army single handed causing Ares to reluctantly retreat. Returning home to an old wooden shack back the seas, Kratos makes a stew using the discarded remains of the Hydra, and goes to bed. However Kratos is still haunted by the nightmare of him killing his family, with Ares taunting him, claiming how he is a monster. In the morning, Kratos is approached by Athena’s general, Artemis to bring him to the Castle of The Gods, where the gods are having an important meeting. Athena wants Kratos to stop Ares and save her city. Kratos asks why can’t the gods do it themselves. Athena reveals that the gods are unable to due to Ares is too strong for them to handle even together. Hermes reveals that only Pandora's Box can give a mortal the power to kill a god. Unfortunately, due to the gods' fear of this power, the box is locked deep within Pandora's Temple, constructed on the back of the Titan Cronos, who was cursed to wander the Desert of Lost Souls until the sands rip the flesh from his bones. Kratos agrees on one condition; that the gods relieve him of the nightmarish memories of his past crimes, as well as allowing him a chance at redemption. Athena warns Kratos how treacherous the journey is giving him a 100 man army of the finest soldiers in Athens including Artemis who has a great distaste for Kratos due to his prior actions.

Kratos leads the army and travels to the swamp to face Medusa, who is terrorizing a local village. Although Medusa and her gorgons killed 25% of the crew, Artemis notices that when her gaze hits reflective material, it reflects back. Artemis tells Kratos about this had him a bronze shield. Using her power to turn people into stone against her, Kratos uses the shield to turn her into stone. Before Kratos can move on, the village grateful for the protection, honors him and his army throwing a feast in their honor. Kratos thanks Artemis for the help, and the two have a conversation about their similarities building a Father-Daughter like bond afterwards.

Kratos and his army makes their way to the Temple, defeating many foes, and evading the many traps built into the Temple. He recovers Pandora's Box, but Ares senses his success, challenges Kratos and his army for one last battle.

Ares uses a black sword radiating a red aura, attacks the army (Darth Vader in Rogue One style) manages to kill the remainders of the army in a brutal and gorish manner. Kratos and Artemis charge at Ares and get into a vicious sword fight. Everyone in the fight winds up battered and briused. However the pair of Artemis and Kratos is too much, but stabs Artemis in the back causing Kratos to freeze in shock and in sorrow. Using this to his advantage, Ares throws a pillar, impaling Kratos on a wall and killing him. As Kratos was pinned to the wall dying, Ares steals Pandora's box, and Kratos is sent to the Underworld. Sensing Kratos’ death, Athena and the Gods along with the remnants of their armies for a final stance against Ares.

Kratos awakens in the Pits of Hades, a gigantic pool where the dead souls go to reach their final death. Seeing Artemis in the Pits of Hades, he leaps in to save her but the current is too strong. Knowing they’ll both die, Artemis lets go killing her a second time, telling Kratos it is not his fault and he is a good man, dying a second time. Losing faith, Kratos admits defeat. However, a mysterious grave digger, who refers to Kratos as "my child", says in a joking way how he admired his previous work. The grave digger says that he saw what happened telling him the only thing worse than a monster is a coward. Inspired Kratos searches for Hades asking him to come back to the world of the living. Hades, who hates Ares with a passion for stealing the souls under his ownership, proposes a deal to Kratos, if Kratos defeats his harpies, he will send him back to fight Ares.

Hades summons a pack of his ravenous harpies and Kratos fights them off in a aerial battle. The harpies swoop down at him one by one. Kratos barely dodged their aerial attacks with many close calls. Kratos uses one of his blades to climb the walls, throwing kicks in mid air hitting the harpies. However a lone harpie knocks off the blade holding him to the wall sending Kratos plummeting. Kratos will falling in mid air desperately tries to hold on to something with his blades but stabs a harpie in its wings. Kratos uses one of the harpies and a ride send it crashing to the ground as he jumps unscathed. Using his blades, Kratos aims for the wings, slicing them off and stabbing them sending the crashing to the ground.

Athena, Poseidon, and Hermes prepares their combined army to fight Ares’ along with his forces. Both the army faces off in the streets of Athens and charge towards each other. Swords clash and bodies drop left and right. A solider is cornered by a small group of Ares men and are killed. We then see more slaughters of the combined Athens army. Although they put up a good fight Ares and his army are too strong. Kratos returns to Athens bursting out of the ground. Kratos fights through the rest of Ares’ soldiers causing him and the Athens army to gain the upper hand. As the armies are fighting and Kratos finds and regains Pandora's Box, opening it and absorbing its power to give him enough strength to fight, and confronts Ares while the rest of combined army fights off Ares’ army.

When Kratos proves that he isn't just a mortal after all, Ares makes a desperate attempt to drive Kratos mad by making him relive the death of his family. Opening a portal, Ares traps Kratos in an illusion. Ares recreates the temple where Kratos slew his wife and child, along with images of Kratos's Family, his army and Artemis. Ares then creates copies of Kratos which attack them. Kratos although full of sorrow, and haunted by their deaths, finally accepts that although his family is dead, he can still be redeemed causing the illusions of himself and his family to vanish. After this fails, Ares strips the Blades of Chaos from Kratos' arms, taking back the weapons he had given him. Freed from his own mind but without weaponry, Kratos is at the mercy of Ares until he spots a very large metal sword, which was formerly used as a part of an ornamental bridge inside Athens. With it, he engages Ares in a final battle, although Ares had the upper hand, eventually Kratos defeats and kills his former master, the God of War.

A huge celebration is held for Kratos by the citizens of Athens. After receiving the congratulations from the gods, Kratos asks Athena to remove the nightmares of his past and memories of this adventure. Athena explains that the gods can only forgive him for his sins; the nightmares, along with the memories are permanent. Feeling abandoned by the gods, Kratos climbs back to the bluffs overlooking the Aegean Sea and contemplates tosses himself over the edge. However, he is talked out of it by Athena. He has served the gods well, she explains, and there is a throne waiting for him that currently has no occupant: the throne of the God of War. She then tells Kratos, although that they’re horrific memories, we must live with them and we can even learn from them. Kratos although still upset realized she’s right, and makes peace with himself and makes his way to Olympus, claiming the throne of The God of War, and promises unlike Ares, to be fair. The camera casts out of Olympus and to the end credits.

The film opens with the birth of Muhammad. Muhammad was born to his mother Amina, into the Quraish, the then ruling tribe of Mecca.  Up to the age of eight, he was raised by his grandfather Abdul Muttalib because Abdallah, his father, died in Yathrib a few weeks before Muhammad was born. Amina, his mother, died when he was six.  After the death of his grandfather, his uncle Abu Talib then assumed responsibility for raising Muhammad.  Abu Talib was a businessman involved in trade and Muhammad went with him on business trips and encountered both Jews, 280 miles to the north in Madina, and Christians also to the north and to the south in Nejran. At 25 years old, Muhammad was hired to manage the business of a wealthy widow named Khadija who was 15 years older than he.  He went to Syria and traded there successfully.  Apparently this impressed Khadija.  She ended up proposing to Muhammad later and in 595 they were married.  They had two sons and four daughters:  Zaynab, Ruqaiyah, Fatima and Umm Kulthum.  Muhammad and Khakija were married for 25 years until Khadija died at the age of 65 during the month of Ramadan, well after the start of Islam. Around 35 years of age, Muhammad assumed the habit of going outside of Mecca to Mt. Hira for meditation and contemplation.  There was a cave where he often went for solitude. It was during one of these times of meditation that Muhammad said an angelic being appeared to him. This disturbed Muhammad and he told his wife Khadija that he thought he had been visited by an evil Jinn.  Jinn are supposed to be living beings like people, but not angels, who were created from fire and are invisible, yet dwell on the earth.  A short time later, in the year 610, while in a cave on Mt. Hirah, Muhammad said that the angel Gabriel appeared to him and commanded him to recite. This recitation became the Qur'an. In these encounters with the angel Gabriel, sometimes he would see the angel, other times he would only hear him, and at others he only heard the sound of a bell through which the words of the angel came. Muhammad could neither read nor write so he was instructed to memorize the words given to him by Gabriel.  This complete recitation, which Muhammad received over a 23 year period, ending in 632, the year of his death, is known as the Qur'an. Initially, Muhammad doubted that he was being called by Allah to be a prophet. Others, including his wife and a cousin, counseled him by saying that Allah would only be truthful to him and would not allow him to be deceived. Muhammad became convinced.

It became the mission of Muhammad to proclaim the truth of Islam, given to him by Allah, through the angel Gabriel. Muhammad called the people of his area to repent from their idol worship, to do good, and to serve the one and true God, Allah.  He taught that man is God's slave and it is his duty to submit to God and obey him.  He said that the Day of Judgment was coming and that a man's works will be weighed on that day.  Those whose good deeds outweigh their bad may, by Allah's grace, be saved and enter Paradise which is full of sensual pleasures. The unsaved go to hell. He also teaches that women are lesser than men and says women can be mortgaged. His first converts were his wife, Khadija, his cousin Ali, and his adopted son Zaid ibn Haritha.  Soon afterwards, Abu Bakr also believed. In his first three years of proclaiming Islam, he had 40 converts. Though his continued preaching brought only a few converts, it did bring much opposition.  The ruling tribe, the Quraish, tried to get Muhammad to stop his preaching by appealing to his uncle, Abu Talib. But, Muhammad adamantly refused to stop proclaiming the message he had received.  Because Abu Talib was very influential in the Quraish, Muhammad's life was protected and he was able to continue his preaching -- which angered many people.  The Quraish began to persecute the Muslims by beating them and boycotting their businesses.  Often times, during public prayers, Muhammad was accosted and mocked.  His followers were likewise treated poorly.  But, Muhammad remained steadfast. Because of the persecution, the Muslims moved to Abyssinia, Ethiopia today, and were protected by the Christian ruler there. After a time, he returned to Madina and continued his preaching.  More converts joined his ranks and more idolaters sought to defeat him.  This is because the message of Islam was socio-political. Islam covers belief, society, behavior, ethics, etc.  This monotheistic belief system threatened the lucrative business that grew around the pilgrimages to the Ka'aba that so many Arabs enjoyed. The ruling tribe, the Quraish, soon found that within their reign a small band of believers, a small "country" unto themselves, was rising up.  The ruling party became more and more concerned and feeling threatened by the Muslims, they became more hostile towards Muhammad. In the year 620, Muhammad lost his beloved uncle Abu Talib (who never became a Muslim) and his wife Khadija.  After a few months Muhammad sought comfort by marrying the widow of one of the believers named Sawdah.  He also later married Ayisha, the seven-year old daughter of his friend Abu Bakr, who he took into his home three years later. Muhammad had 12 wives including a nine year old girl. Muhammad gathered his followers in 622 and moved to Medina.

In Medina, he preached about Allah and monotheism and urged all people to return to the true faith of Abraham.  At that time in Medina, he would pray facing Jerusalem, as did the Jews who were very populous in that city.  He preached about repentance, one God, and forgiveness of sins.  His first sermon in Medina was on a Friday.

Gradually, however, the Jews began to disapprove of him and his movement. He confronted them and told them they had misread the Scriptures. This estranged the Jews in the region and finally one day while praying, he suddenly changed direction and faced Mecca. He said the Ka'aba, in Mecca, was the true place of worship since it was built by Abraham. After two years in Medina, the Muslims were not faring too well financially and that, combined with mild persecution, prompted a revelation to come to Muhammad permitting him to raid passing caravans. This he did and the Muslim financial problems were solved. Soon afterward, there was then a significant battle at Badr where Muhammad, with 350 men, defeated an army of 1,000 men. This boost gave confidence to the Muslims, encouraged more converts, and made the Quraish even more uneasy. In the fifth year of the Hegira, the Quraish tried to destroy the Muslims but failed. By now the Muslims were too strong so the Quraish never again tried to defeat them. Muhammad then set his sights on Mecca. At one point in 628, Muhammad took 10,000 men and entered Mecca unchallenged. The leader of the Quraish converted to Islam. From there, Muhammad's movement gained further momentum. In 631 two tribes joined Muhammad. They were the Hijaz and Najd. From this time on, many battles ensured. There was the Battle of Uhud and the Battle of the Trench. Muhammad signed a treaty with the Quraish tribe. And eventually, Muhammad had conquered Mecca and he destroyed all the idols in Mecca. As the years pass, Muhammad grows old and weak. He eventually fell ill and died in the presence of his favorite wife, Aisha, and her father, Abu-Bakr. He was buried in Medina in his own house. His father in law, Abu-Bakr, becomes the Caliph.

Sarah "Angel"- Dianna Agron

Plot:

Spoiler

The film begins in New England, 1835. Sarah, a beautiful young girl, meets her father, Alex Stafford, for the first time. Seven-year-old Sarah learns that she is the product of Stafford's adulterous affair with her mother, Mae. Mae was urged to abort the child, but refused to do so. This decision separated her and Alex and left Mae depressed. Sarah begins to think that she is to blame but she hopes Alex never comes back.

Later on that year Mae's maid Cleo begrudgingly takes Sarah with her on a trip to the seashore, so that Mae can have a private visit with Alex. Cleo takes Sarah with her into a popular brothel where Cleo is well-known and has a male companion. After getting drunk she agrees to sleep with him while Sarah waits in the hall. After this man leaves Cleo heartbroken again, Cleo in a half-drunk stupor tells Sarah "God's truth" and forces a frightened Sarah to listen to her say that no man ever cares for a woman and all they want is sex.

Mae and Sarah then move to a shack on the docks, where Mae takes up prostitution to make ends meet. Her reputation is known all over town, and young Sarah is forced to suffer the rejection of the townspeople because of it. Through this experience, Sarah learns to mask her emotions and replace them instead with a hard exterior.

About five years later, Mae dies to a terrible illness, leaving Sarah alone at the age of eight with a drunken man named Rab. Unsure of what to do with the small child, Rab seeks a home for the child. He finds a man that is looking for a little girl for his wealthy master. Thinking that this is Sarah's lucky break, Rab takes Sarah to the wealthy neighborhood. They are greeted at the door by a woman who urges Rab to take Sarah away and not come back. Not dissuaded, Rab insists that Sarah is perfect for this rich man. The woman admits the pair and sends them to a bedroom upstairs where they are instructed to wait until her master can see them.

Duke, the master of the household, welcomes Sarah and Rab; minutes later, Rab is strangled before Sarah's eyes, his body dumped in a nearby alley. Duke, who is a pedophile, had been scouring the town not for a new daughter, but a new mistress. Duke informs Sarah (renamed by him Angel) that there are many things he wants to teach her. He gives her first "lesson" that very night.

After about 10 years with Duke, Angel finally escapes and boards a ship bound for California. Robbed and forced to the option of prostituting herself instead of being raped by the mostly male passengers, she disembarks in San Francisco with nothing more than the clothes she is wearing. Angel is taken in by 'The Duchess', the owner of The Palace, a brothel in Pair-a-Dice and becomes an exclusive, high-priced prostitute. Employed by the Duchess, Angel is guarded constantly, her meager earnings kept from her. Her only solace is Lucky, a fellow prostitute that is often drunk. Lucky reminds Angel of her mother.

Michael Hosea first sees Angel on a trip to Pair-A-Dice to sell produce. He is ready to leave when God tells Michael "she's the one", the woman he is meant to marry. Michael soon discovers to his shock that Angel is a prostitute. Still determined to heed God's command and marry Angel, Michael pays the high fee for her services in hopes of convincing her to leave with him. She stubbornly rejects his offer. Discouraged, Michael questions God, but still obeys. He pays Angel's fee for three successive nights, talking and reasoning with her until his time and money are up. Angel keeps her cold, sarcastic front to dissuade him, wanting to escape the pain his words cause her. Meanwhile, she cannot seem to escape thoughts of Michael and her rising hope of life outside the Palace.

After the last night with Angel, Michael grows frustrated and leaves Pair-A-Dice. A few days later, he returns to Pair-A-Dice, unable to ignore God's command any longer. He finds Angel almost dead from a brutal beating given her by Magowan, Duchess' bodyguard. Willing to use any means to preserve Angel's life, Michael asks her to marry him so he can take her to his cabin. Barely conscious, Angel agrees, mumbling "Why not?"

Michael nurses Angel back to health at his cabin. Angel remains barely tolerant of the arrangement while it serves her needs. Michael endures Angel's harshness, remaining faithful to his new wife and God's plan. Michael's widower brother-in-law, Paul, returns home from fruitless gold panning in the Sierras. Paul recognizes Angel immediately as the high-priced prostitute from the Palace. Believing Angel has deceived Michael, Paul treats her badly. Paul tries to tell Michael about Angel's profession, but only angers him. Paul thinks Michael married Angel out of blind lust and without knowing she was a prostitute. During his visit Paul thinks there is a rift between him and Michael because of Angel, not knowing that Michael loves Angel in spite of her past and that he is the one causing the rift between them.

When she finally heals from her wounds, Angel tries to run away from Michael in hopes of returning to the brothel to get back her money The Duchess had kept from her and insisted it was being spent in the clothing and food Angel received. When Paul leaves to sell the produce of his land back in Pair-A-Dice, Angel sees this as a way for her to escape. While Michael is out working in the field, she runs after Paul's wagon. He agrees to take her with him if she pays him back with her only means of currency: herself. He's disgusted by her actions even more after they have sex together and hopes that is the last of her he will be seeing ever again.

Upon her return to Pair-A-Dice, she sees that the Palace has burned down killing her dearest companion Lucky, and another prostitute by the name of Mai Ling. With nowhere else to go, she begins working above a bar—once again as a prostitute. Even though she loathes being seen as nothing but a harlot, she has no other skills with which to make a living. A livid Michael finds her in a room with a client and fights their way out of the bar filled with drunken men waiting for their turn with Angel.

They return to the cabin, where Michael relies on God to work through his anger at her unfaithfulness. Angel begins to develop affectionate feelings towards Michael, which she cannot comprehend because she has never allowed herself to love any man, for "God's truth" said they will take advantage of her or desert her, just like her father. Despite her continued coldness, Michael loves her unconditionally. Upon showing her a sunrise, he says, "That is what I want to give to you." Angel feels herself becoming soft-hearted day by day, but in her uncertainty and fear refuses to share it with Michael. She feels a deep sense of shame at her "uncleanness". She is softened by Michael's love but cannot see herself as worthy of it. Though they have slept together regularly, Angel is very disconnected from the experience of sex, but when one night she experiences the same joy and pleasure that Michael does and it frightens her.

Upon their arrival back in the valley, they meet the Altman family, who have a broken wheel and are stranded on the side of the road. Michael helps fix their wagon and invites them to stay at their cabin. Angel reveals to Mrs. Altman and the oldest daughter, Miriam, that she met Michael in a brothel, and is amazed to find that they have only compassion for her instead of contempt. They become close, and Angel takes a liking to the oldest daughter, Miriam, who begins to fancy Paul, who is living at the other end of the valley. When Angel sees Miriam talking with Michael, she assumes that they have feelings for one another and jumps to the conclusion that they would make a much better couple than she and Michael. Paul wants to see Michael end up with Miriam as well, but has also begun to develop feelings for the 16-year-old Miriam. He denies his feelings only because he wishes to see Michael with Miriam instead of Angel.

She runs away once again, this time to Sacramento; on the way she is offered a ride by an old man that sells pots. Upon reaching Sacramento while looking for work she again meets Joseph Hochschild, who has built his new store, and she stays with him, knowing that he is a good friend of Michael's. She works for him in his store along with his mother and sister. When an order comes in for Michael, she tries to leave but Joseph keeps her busy, making her wait longer. When she finishes her duties and goes to close up the store, Michael is standing at the doorway, having again come back for her. She admits that she is frightened by the idea of being in love with him, but he reassures her and brings her home.

Meanwhile, it is revealed in a flashback that during her time as Duke's mistress, Angel got pregnant twice and both times an infuriated Duke had a doctor abort it, taking measures the second time to ensure that she can never get pregnant again. Angel later reveals this to a devastated Michael. She also reveals that she once had sex with her own father, who came to her brothel, in a bid for revenge because he left her mother. She is swamped with guilt at the callous way she treated him. Knowing that has shocked her husband, and feeling guilty for not being able to give Michael any children of his own, as she knows he longs for, Angel runs away once more, leaving her wedding ring behind, in hopes that Michael will marry Miriam and have children with her. Michael is crushed, but says he will not go after Angel again if she does not want to be with him.

This time Angel goes to San Francisco. When she arrives, she gets a job with a gentle man called Virgil. He takes her in as a cook at his cafe, and takes care of her. But after months of their hard work, the cafe burns down, and in it all of Angel's savings and possessions. Observing the fire in the street, a bereft Angel hears a familiar voice—it is Duke, greeting her. Fearing that he would hurt Virgil, who seems suspicious of Duke, Angel agrees to go back with him.

Once more under Duke's power, Angel is expected to resume her life as a prostitute. However, Duke sexual preference is for young girls, and he asks Angel to manage his prospective "companions," but only after a week's worth of prostitution. Angel is to be presented to a crowd of men. She begins to wrestle in her mind and cries out to God internally. She is prepared to go on stage to entertain the men. When she is finally before them, the voice of God tells her to sing and she starts singing "Rock of Ages" to the awed and confused crowd. A gray-haired man sings along with her and moves up to the front of the stage. She forgets the words of the song, and he finishes it.

After the presentation, Duke reprimands Angel. However, he is met by the singing stranger from the crowd. He threatens to have Duke hanged if he lays a single finger on Angel. With that the man escorts Angel out, and on their way out Angel rescues two other young girls Duke was using as lovers. When the men at the brothel see the two young girls with Angel, they become furious and destroy the place. The man takes them to his house, where his wife and daughter take care of them. Jonathan Axle, the man who saved her, is a wealthy and respected banker with a solid Christian family. Angel starts to attend church with the Axle family and grows fond of them.

Meanwhile, Miriam reveals that she is in love with Paul, and the two of them marry while Angel is away. Michael still awaits the return of Angel and prays continually for her to come back. Seeing his grief, Miriam insists that Paul should go and find Angel, but Paul, still full of contempt for the woman he believes Angel to be, refuses.

Angel eventually recognizes God's love for her and receives Christ in her heart. She begins to work with prostitutes by helping them leave their old ways and learning new abilities that might help them make a living. Susanna Axle, the daughter of Jonathan Axle, helps her run the boarding house.

Paul finally gives in to Miriam and goes to San Francisco to look for Angel. He sees her with an old man—Jonathan Axle—and thinks that he is a client, and she still a prostitute. He is furious that he came all this way, and starts making up excuses to give Miriam so that he does not have to hurt her by telling her Angel is a prostitute. However, next day he decides to go up to the house and confronts Angel. At first he acts cold, contemptuous, and sarcastic, but is startled by her humility and the genuine love she harbors for Michael. He is shocked to learn that she left Michael in the hope that he would marry Miriam so that he could have children. When she discovers that Paul is married to Miriam, and that Michael is still waiting for her after three years of absence, her whole world falls apart and she no longer feels justified in staying in San Francisco.

She finally makes the decision to leave Susanna in charge of the house, and goes back to Michael. She surprises him in the field where he is working, kneeling at his feet and crying. She is grieved to see how losing her has had a profound effect on Michael. She reveals that her real name is "Sarah". Michael, in tears himself, receives her with kind, pure and forgiving love, and declares that he believes the revelation of her name is a promise from God that they will one day be able to have children. At last they start a new life together, the life they have dreamed of.

The crew names him Samson for his brute strength. Samson doesn't speak their language, but he sees Daniel as his master and follows him. The two grow in a close friendship despite not being able to communicate through language.

One day, Simon the Zealot, Daniel's friend from the village, comes to tell Daniel his grandmother is dying. He returns to his village of Nazareth and sees his grandmother. She passes away and Daniel is left in charge of Leah. Daniel realizes he will have to stay in the village and leave Rosh’s crew. He returns to work for the blacksmith as that is the only job he can find. A few days later, his friend Simon tells Daniel that he is leaving to follow a man named Jesus who is from their village. He asks if Daniel can take over his shop. Daniel appears hesitant not wanting to see Simon ruin his life by following Jesus. Daniel accepts however. During this time, Daniel secretly begins recruiting young men who are around his own age to rebel against the Romans. They decide on a password, which is from the song of David: 'He trains my hands for war, so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze.' They meet in an abandoned watch tower outside of the village and slowly begin rebelling small bits at a time. Rebelling includes refusing to house Roman soldiers, give them food, or spreading negative information about the Romans to common folk.

One day, Rosh gives Joel a mission: he is to find out who is coming to a special banquet thrown for a special legation from Rome. Joel finds out the names by chatting to the servants and slaves of the house, and even after the banquet he continues to do so, passing on any information he can find to Rosh. But soon, Joel is captured. Rosh refuses to help free him, so Daniel (who has learned about his friend’s capture) and his small band devise a plan to free him themselves. From the top of a cliff, they attack the group of Romans that are escorting the prisoners, but the attack goes horribly wrong. Many of them are injured and beaten back by the highly skilled Romans. They only succeed because Samson shows up and rolls a boulder down on the attacking Romans and then joins the fight. They end up freeing Joel, but one of them dies and many of them are injured. After the fight, Samson is dragged away by the Romans and crucified.

Daniel realizes that in rebelling, they had been doing the wrong thing. Instead of weakening Rome, they had weakened themselves. Filled with sadness at the death of his friend Samson, Daniel begins to doubt the rebellion will work. He begins to also feel guilt to recruiting and brainwashing others to a false cause. Also during this time, a young Roman soldier named Marcus begins to befriend Leah after seeing her in Daniel’s shop. Leah begins to come out in the courtyard and is appearing to be recover. She and Marcus group close as Marcus sneaks in the evening to the courtyard to see Leah. Daniel learns of this and doesn’t like it. He one day sees Leah and Marcus talking. Daniel goes into a fit of rage and beats Marcus. Leah terrified by Daniel’s violent behavior falls back into fully being possessed by her demons. She locks herself in her dark room.

Over the next few weeks, Leah begins to grow ill and is dying. Daniel filled with regret and hopelessness decides to find this man named Jesus who can heal the sick. He is unable to find Jesus, as Jesus is off in Jerusalem. He does find Simon. He and Simon share a deep talk. Simon tells Daniel that letting go of hate and showing forgiveness are stronger than hate and revenge. Simon then agrees to ride south to get Jesus for Daniel.

Several days pass and Daniel is worried Jesus will not arrive in time. He and Leah share a touching scene and as he asks her to forgive him. She is unable to speak however a tear rolls down her check. Daniel leaves her bed side and sees Marcus across the street. He tells Marcus to leave. Marcus says he heard Leah is dying and wants to say goodbye. He says she was the only good thing in the village. He says he is lonely since he has been “deployed” to Nazareth for over 2 years and not been able to be with his family back in Rome. He says Leah was his only friend and love here. Daniel tells Marcus he needs to go.

The following day, Jesus arrives with Simon. Jesus heals Leah from her demons and sickness. Jesus then turns to Daniel and says he can see the pain, anger, and regret in Daniel’s heart. He tells Daniel to forgive his enemies and to let go of hate. He says that hatred is a sickness, which rots the soul and body. Daniel overcome with emotion breaks down and says he isn’t worthy of Jesus’s kindness. Jesus looks at Daniel and says that all of mankind is worthy of is of his kindness and compassion. He tells Daniel to go forth and show the same love Jesus showed him to others: rich or poor, Roman or Jew, man or woman. Jesus then leaves. Daniel shares a moment with a healed Leah. Daniel looks out over the street and sees Marcus standing there. Daniel goes out to Marcus and tells him Leah wishes to see him. Marcus gives a small smile and walks toward the house. He is embraced by Leah. Daniel tells Leah that Marcus can join them for dinner.
