Idk. Maybe the movie will be amazing but this trailer felt pretty generic.

If the trailer felt melodramatic and generic, it's probably gonna be just that. Cretton's last film was similar and Short Term 12 also felt like a movie that could have easily been melodramatic (the script certainly edged towards that territory) but the directing was a lot more restrained in that movie.

This already looks like it'll be one of the most important films of the year. I can see the Academy voting this through if they're willing enough to support a cause. Filmmaking is hard and the act of successfully evoking emotions from the audience is enough for me to say they did a good job. Injustice boils my blood and I'd gladly accept a Best Picture WIN for this film if it means the criminal justice system is positively affected.

I don't want to say , "Well, they gave it away in the trailer" because it's a book...but I didn't read the book, and they gave it away in the trailer.

Awards potential for Brie & MBJ?

Not from that trailer 😳 Brie looks like she’s turned up to a different film. Talk about over doing it.

MBJ looks like he’s playing MBJ again, sorry.

Just watched the trailer and yeah, it's pretty melodramatic but as @SLAM! said, I think it's more justified here if it really wants the audience to understand such an important message about the absolutely terrible justice system in America. More justified than Glass Castle being melodramatic at least.

Feeling this is gonna be a hit.

As soon as WB moved it to December, I had a feeling they were confident although it did backfire on them with Live by Night a few years back but that's the exception,

Reactions seem pretty muted. Still don't see this going anywhere other than Foxx, and that's a maybe looking at how competitive supporting is looking (Bale/Brown/DaFriend/PacinHoo Haa)

The fact a number of reviews have called it a crowd pleaser bodes well for it box office wise.

I can see WB pushing for Jamie Foxx to be nominated for supporting,
