I’m gonna try and get as many films read today and tomorrow since I won’t be able to do much of anything in terms of reading on Friday (Infinity War).

Same.

Dark Side

You know, when it's all said and done, I'm gonna miss this trilogy. Each one was so fun to review and also watch other users lose their minds over the insane stuff that happened throughout the course of the trilogy. This film doesn't disappoint in giving us a film that is a entertaining, happy medium between the two previous films: not too self-serious (P&W) but not too tame either (Truth Is). So many batshit insane things happen throughout the course of this film. The abundance of sex scenes that nearly push this into porno territory, the arabian prince, Tyler fully becoming one of the most unlikeable character's ever, Nicole being the most incompetant villain ever, etc. It never lets up. Yet its just so damn entertaining to watch. This film is a definite guilty pleasure of mine and I'm honestly sad to see this trilogy go. At least, for what its worth, they ended on a 'unique' high-note.

The Rest of February and a review of Doom

Ice Station

... Characters... doing stuff... yeah...

2/10

My Peoples

This was a solid animated film, definitely a jump in quality from the one's in January. The story is unique, the characters are memorable and the animation is very good. I just wish I had more to say about it but I think Dark Side kinda took the analytical part of my brain out of me for the day. Basically, its a good movie.

6/10

Father

The second most unpleasant film of this year (#1 will (not) be discussed in length come May). The story is just so dark and depressing that it leaves you just feeling so dour throughout. For a horror film, only feeling down is not what you should be feeling in the theater.

1/10

Cupid's Quest

A fairly mediocre film that might entertain your kid but I wouldn't place any bets on it.

4/10

LiveStream

It has its problems, sure, and the decision to only show the film through the lens of an iPhone camera is a bit of a reach considering a lot of the stuff that happens but its entertaining enough and kept my interest throughout. The villains twist is dumb though.

5/10

Doom

A bit disappointing. When the film isn't focused on the people facing off against demons, i.e., the most entertaining part of the film, we're left with a lot of uninteresting human characters. None of them are particularly good and a lot of them just can't act to save their lives. Still, its essentially a big-budget B-movie that features a lot of gore and violence in it, made by the Crank directors. It's bound to please someone. Just not me.

Not really surprised at the Doom review though I do kind of wonder what you were expecting or hoping for with it on your most anticipated list.

I'm fully aware Jaden Smith and Jean-Claude Van Damme can't act though... and Jason Statham only... sort of can ish.

I watched a lot of gameplay from the new game. It seems like a fun game. Gory as hell but entertaining. If the film was nothing but Jason Statham ripping demons apart and Jaden Smith BEING ripped apart for 90 minutes, I'd be okay with it. :P

Well that's not much of a movie then is it? XD

TBH my only prior experience with the franchise is like... having played the first couple levels of Doom 3 over a decade ago and seeing the crappy 2005 Doom movie several years ago. I kind of thought you'd respond like, "oh, you missed the point of the franchise/didn't include this cool lore or characters" cuz I've no idea what I'm talking about :P

March

Earth Defense Force

Its essentially a modern day remake of Starship Troopers mixed in with some Godzilla and Independence Day. The human characters are not interesting in the slightest but the climax is extremely entertaining to watch. The destruction is just so fun to watch unfold.

5/10

Nerdy

Cliche and boring. It feels like a movie that probably would've come out like 10 years ago when family films mainly starred Tim Allen and were just garbage.

3/10

2 Lonely 2 Zookeepers

The two leads reach new career lows in the most glorious and hilarious way possible. What a laugh riot this was.

2/10

SoulCalibur

Your typical Paul W.S. Anderson movie. Crappy effects, stock characters, and stiff dialogue galore.

3/10

Student Film

This film hit the movie buff in me pretty hard in the feels. Brought me back to the days of me trying to make my own films.

8/10

The Bronze Bow

Well-casted and well-made, its sure to please the Christian demographic its aiming for.

6/10

The Storyteller

The stakes in this story almost feel non-existent. I guess it was competently made with some neat visuals but the story just feels insignificant.

4/10

Reviews were short because I'm in a bit of a time crunch. @cookie will get to Number One Dime tomorrow.

April

Penguins

Who doesn't love Penguins?

6/10

The Lonely

You pretty much know the message of the film within the first five minutes of the film. From there on out, its pretty uninteresting for a good majority of the runtime. The dream world the character lives in is interesting but the film just takes too long to get there and by the time its introduced, it just feels jarring.

3/10

Battletoads

Not much to really say except this was a very entertaining kids film with some fun characters, colorful animation, and some great action sequences.

7/10

Cataclysmic

My issues with the film are somewhat the same as a few have pointed out: Affleck's character is really just there to spout exposition and observe the eruption, Emily's character crosses that line of selfishness a little too far, etc. However, its almost worth forgiving for the last half of the film alone. When shit starts hitting the fan with the eruption, its hard not to get super invested into what's going on. The destruction is just devastating to watch and keeps you on the edge of your seat, even when you know the final outcome. Doesn't compare to White Hurricane or even The Towering Inferno but its great for what it is.

8/10

RuPaul's Best Friend Race

This isn't even a movie. Its a TV special spread out to a feature length runtime. Certainly not worthy of a big screen treatment.

1/10

Unknown Sender

A pretty dumb horror flick. Some of the kills can be fun to watch but this doesn't do remotely anything to distance itself from other generic horror schlock.

2/10
