salvador-232
Some of Last Weekends Actuals (May 23-26) Aladdin: 1 4 $745,577 - - - - $797,098 1 Endgame: 2 4 $340,207 -60.0% - - - $18,005,372 5 John Wick 3 3 4 $229,299 -26.2% 71 -4 $3,230 $769,839 2 Dog's Journey 4 4 $179,438 -42.2% 76 +1 $2,361 $753,919 2 Brightburn 5 4 $45,615 - 47 - $971 $45,615 1 Aladdin opened barely above Dumbo (6% in USD, 10% local currency aprox) in a very mediocre result. Is only above Dumbo and Cinderella among live actions remakes. It will likely have good legs but doing just a bit better than Dumbo can't be considered anything else than underperforming. Awful drop for Endgame, (Infinity War dropped 50% on this weekend and had a higher gross). However, it managed to drag itself across the 18m USD mark @danhtruong5. It faced brutal screen cuts this weekend and It will end around 18,5m USD. However, its run has been so huge and has smashed previous records by so much, that it is kinda unfair to ask it o hold well. John Wick had an excellent hold, is already the best entry of the franchise and will outgross the previous movies combined. Dog's Journey hold is terrible while Brightburn is one hell of a bomb.

salvador-232
Weekend from May 30th- June 2nd . Aladdin Godzilla 2 Detective Pikachu Mi amigo Alexis Endgame. Aladdin easily held the top spot and probably stayed flat/outright increased. This is excellent after a disappointing opening and could make it's total much more respectable. Considering the good hold of Aladdin, Godzilla 2 probably opened on par with the first one in local currency, though certainly less in dollars (ER is at all time low). Overall meh, will suffer a lot from competition. The other new release in the top 5 is local movie Mi Amigo Alexis, about a kid that wants to become a footballer and is helped by local superstar Alexis Sanchez. This film is notable because it tries to appeal to a large audience but is not a trashy comedy (something almost unheard of), and actually has good reviews. It's director had several artsy films that got good reception and now is trying with more commercial films. The debut is good by local movie standards and I hope it has good legs, this kind of films is what Chilean cinema needs right now, instead of the army of artsy oscar-bait pieces and the occasional braindead comedy.

To be honest, if I didn't follow the BO I wouldn't have known that Aladdin was released. (Yes, Disney is THAT bad here, and Aladdin isn't even the most egregious example) Edited June 5, 2019 by salvador-
salvador-232
X-Men: Dark Phoenix: 2days before release: 55 (-7) showings for OD | 12.677 (-1.744) seats available | 439 tickets sold (+145 in the last day) Comps: 11% of Captain Marvel (253k USD) | 70% of Shazam (~450k USD) | 195% of Alita Battle Angel (~877k USD) Comps are all over the place but all of them point to an opening lower than the franchise standards of 1m USD. 1

salvador-232
The annual report of "Cine in Chile" was released by CAEM (Cámara de Exhibidores Multisala) a few days ago. For the 12th consecutive year, the number of admissions set a record high, growing 1,2% to 28.067.303 admissions. Admissions have grown 153% since 2001, and gross reached 91 billion local currency and 142m USD. Here is a graph of admissions by month. 2018 had the biggest January of all time (Coco third month), May (Infinity War), September (The Nun), and November (Bohemian Rhapsody+Ralph+FB2) Weekend (Thursday-to Sunday) represent 58% of admissions. Thursday is actually the second worst day while there's almost zero Saturday to Sunday drop. Most Popular Genre is Action/Adventure (which is well... almost every Blockbuster) with 46,5% share. Animation comes in second with 26%. Horror has 13%, Comedy 5% and Drama 9,5% Chilean cinema represented 2,66% of admissions which is well... up from less than 1% in 2017. The number of screens reached 472 on 79 complexes, an increase of 10%. Market share among the biggest chains remained steady. Premium formats represented just 7,5% of admissions. 3

If it had really good WOM it would have increased. It means it will probably behave more like an animated movie instead of a live-action family movie, which will mean better legs, 5x or more probably (the standard for animation) Is still very very good, but not "mind-blowing", if it stays flat /increases on its second weekend then we can talk jaja.

salvador-232
Toy Story 4 presales, 7 days before release 39 showings for OD | 12.168 seats available | 1011 tickets sold Toy Story 4 is already the third-best presale I've tracked and it only trails Captain Marvel and Endgame. A huge opening and total is in the cards and considering the glowing reviews, I think it will indeed join the all-time top ten in admissions. Will be enough to compensate the 32% fall in the ER and lack of 3D? We'll see.

TS4 is already the second-best presale but trails Captain Marvel very slightly at a similar point, tomorrow I will check again to see if it keeps the pace or goes beyond it. salvador-232
Some of Last Weekend Actuals: (June 6-9) 1.- Aladdin 1 4 $659,487 -6.1% - - - $2,512,006 3 2.- X-Men: Dark Phoenix: 2 4 $473,000 - - - - $473,000 3.- Mi Amigo Alexis 33k admissions (reported by local press) | -34% | 103k admission total 4.- Pokemon Detective Pikachu ~30k admissions (basically tied with Alexis in weekend placements) 6.- John Wick 3 3 4 $98,086 -40.3% - -69 - $1,149,050 7.- Endgame 4 4 $95,839 -46.6% - - - $18,391,393 Now we are talking. Excellent hold for Aladdin, if it can survive TS4, then it will definitely hit 1m admissions. X-men: Dark Phoenix debuted with half of the franchise standard (in line with Shazam comp based on presales), very bad. Local movie Mi Amigo Alexis had a nice hold considering it suffered heavy showtime cuts, is the first Chilean movie to cross 100k admission since 2015 that isn't from now disgraced (because of sexual abuse) comedy director Nicolas Lopez. Wick held well considering that screen cuts were brutal while Endgame is basically on end-of-run stage.
