IW has 3rd highest OS gross locked. It also has a good shot at 3rd highest WW gross. Domestically, it will likely settle in 4th place though.

Yeah it'll be a tight race between TFA and Infinity War for No 3 WW.

So IW 3rd weekend could be a couple million above TA1 3rd weekend. Thats a little disappointing but it has burnt off a lot of demand already.

 

Looks like the gap between it and BP will start to close moving forward.

Most films will "look dumb" if we turn their narratives in 'dumb' soundbites.

"A giant purple villain psycho wants to collect 5 gems to stick on a metal glove and kill half the universe? Dumb."

"A princess from a faraway all-chick society rescues a US spy from drowning and comes to the US to fight for peace? Dumb"

I am sure that we can do that for pretty much every film in existence.

It's all about execution, and we really don't know how Book Club is executed. Maybe it will be a great film.

I mean, I totally get that most guys will instinctively hate the film sight unseen due to 1- itbeing about women, 2- it being about older women, and 3- it being about the ultimate women's literary phenomenon, but come on...until we see the film, we cannot for sure say it sucks...

If it gets the 8th biggest 4th weekend, that would be between 28.1m and 28.5m, edging out Jumanji 2, but ending up just shy of Spider-Man. That's some good company.

 

If it gets the 16th biggest 5th weekend, it will have to best WW, but fall short of TDK, slotting in between 15.7 and 16.3m. Again, good company.

 

32nd biggest 6th weekend is an extremely narrow margin, between MBFGW and Shrek, which are separated by just $33k, so that's some uber-legginess from the early 2000s. It would be a weekend right around 10.4m

 

Getting the 64th biggest 7th weekend is hitting a 10k separation target between Batman (1989) and The Martian.  Just over 6.7m for the trouble.

 

And the 128th biggest 8th weekend is about 3.75m, right between Steel Magnolias and Mockingjay 1.

 

So, taking the averages it would look like

28.3

16

10.4

6.707

3.75

 

Combined 65m. If we add in 60m for this weekend, that'll be 125m more, without even considering weekdays. Which would mean that at the 2 month mark, it would be a 610m. With the weekdays, that probably means a final total somewhere between 650 and 700m. That's a stunningly good result for any movie, in any franchise.

Yep the gap between IW and BP will start closing in extremely fast starting this weekend. There won’t even be a comparison after Deadpool 2 opens . The fact that it might have a worse third weekend than ....the first avengers speaks volumes.

Speaks volumes about what? You know how many superhero films had worse third weekends than Avengers? All of them except Black Panther, and Black Panther is a cultural event so its legs from a certain point onwards are incomparable to anything else. Also, Black Panther started falling behind Titanic and Avatar in its 3rd weekend despite opening a hell of a lot higher. Does that make BP a failure, son?

 

Sure, none in the genre opened bigger than TA1 except Infinity War, but Infinity War is a sequel and it's performing like a sequel. Hell, it's performing better than a lot of sequels in far earlier points in their franchises. What will it take for you to stop acting like IW needs Avatar numbers to be a success? Or are you just deriliously trolling at this point?

It must be trolling. At least GraceRandolph is pretty easy to assume as a troll; this guy though I presumed would have better sense than acting like a movie making the type of money IW is making is a fucking disappointment. Who in their right mind would see 660M+ (at least) DOM and 2B WW as a Goddamn disappointment for this movie? Most people thought it would be a stretch to make 600M DOM period, and noooobody saw 2B WW coming. Did Black Panther really make everyone that greedy or did the fanboys just delude themselves into thinking this would beat TFA DOM just because it broke the OW record in April, while TFA did it just before Christmas in December? Jesus Christ.
