Number 1 Placements: 2

Top 5 Placements: 6

Top 25 Placements: 14

Previous Rankings: 2016 (6, -6), 2014 (25, +13), 2013 (2, -10), 2012 (1, -11)

Awards Count: Won 1 Oscar, Nominated for Best Picture

Tomatometer: 94% (9.1 Avg Rating)

Box Office: 107.9m (232.5m Adjusted)

Synopsis: The lives of two mob hitmen, a boxer, a gangster's wife, and a pair of diner bandits intertwine in four tales of violence and redemption.

Critic Opinion: "If the situations are inventive and original, so is the dialogue. A lot of movies these days use flat, functional speech: The characters say only enough to advance the plot. But the people in "Pulp Fiction" are in love with words for their own sake. The dialogue by Tarantino and Avary is off the wall sometimes, but that's the fun. It also means that the characters don't all sound the same: Travolta is laconic, Jackson is exact, Plummer and Roth are dopey lovey-doveys, Keitel uses the shorthand of the busy professional, Thurman learned how to be a moll by studying soap operas.

It is part of the folklore that Tarantino used to work as a clerk in a video store, and the inspiration for "Pulp Fiction" is old movies, not real life. The movie is like an excursion through the lurid images that lie wound up and trapped inside all those boxes on the Blockbuster shelves. Tarantino once described the old pulp mags as cheap, disposable entertainment that you could take to work with you, and roll up and stick in your back pocket. Yeah, and not be able to wait until lunch, so you could start reading them again."  - Roger Ebert

User Opinions: "This is a film that takes all that you have ever known about film and bludgeons it to death with a pen and paper. It redefines what is acceptable and what is off beat and all it asks you to do is enjoy this film for 2 and a half hours. I did, immensely, and I think most people will, and have. If you really have not seen this, then you are robbing yourself of one of the best cinematic experiences in the history of film. This is easily one of the best films ever made. How anyone can disagree is beyond my understanding and I can't see how you can truly call yourself a film fan if you can't see the brilliance of this film." - @baumer

"Greatest film ever made" - @Jake Gittes

Commentary: Quentin Tarantino finally makes a second showing on our list with the film he's most well known for, Pulp Fiction.  Pulp Fiction is a pop-culture masterpiece, encapturing so much about the 90s, and being filled with a nihilistic spirit and the meaningless of everything going on in popular culture through various tangent plot threads, that somehow weave together for an ending that brings everything you just saw together.  The movie is pretty hilarious, wickedly entertaining and it really resonates with those trying to understand the point of so many oddities within our ever-changing American culture.  Pulp Fiction pushed the boundaries of what could be done in film and paved the way for many violent knock-offs and efforts to follow.  Pulp made 48% of the lists submitted, with an average score of 4.3

Looks like the next film won't be one of the LOTR films (nothing controversial about any of them being this high after all). Will be nice to have all 3 of them in the top 10 for the first time. Now if only FotR manages to top the list everything will be perfect.

I am excited - my blurays of the extended editions (all 6 films) will arrive tomorrow - wife and I never got them previously and decided we wanted to watch them again. Fellowship is one of my favorite films.

TDK missed the list, that's my guess. He's giving way too many hints.

But then again, can it really miss the list? Surely a lot of people voted for it, even if not very high? Huh...

No way it missed the list. It's never even been out of the top 10 in any of the previous renditions of this thing.

That would be a shock to be sure - and serious case of WTF happened to the Nolan groupies...

That may also be the thing - it could be #11.... which would be interesting.

Nolan got his Best Director nom. Their job was done, and so they have ascended to Nolan heaven.
