I think this will hit 150m opening. The momentum has clearly been building and this seems like a bigger deal than Shang Chi in terms of the MCU central story.

Nah. 150m is for the heavy hitters. Eternals 2 may get there but I don't think the first one can.

Agreed. The hype for Eternals is greater than SC but not THAT much greater.

$20-30m more than SC is the right range IMO.

Great cast, weird story angle plus mega powerful superheroes. Should do awesome IF reviews are solid.

With how much Kevin Feige has been talking about it these last 6 months, it just might be.

They're playing this one very close to the vest in terms of it's marketing, a lot of the new trailers/tv spots are just from the same scene. Will be interesting to see what the actual meat of the story is all about and that it surprises people in a good way.

You say that but Captain Marvel managed it and she's not a heavy hitter at all. When one of your movies makes 350m on OW, 150 is no longer special

SC had the minimal hype in comparisson. Most of us were shocked that it ended up being good

She is a heavy hitter though. And that OW had a lot to do with endgame of course.

Below 150 for sequels is disappointing to me but first entries have lower floor expectations.

She isn't a heavy hitter, she just had the best release date and was seen as a key movie to watch before Endgame. The film also didn't have an online release before the release of Endgame forcing any MCU fan to see it in cinemas before rather than waiting. People weren't going to watch every MCU movie and skip out the last before the big finale and the studio knew this when they decided on that date.

I understand first entries have lower floors but I'm predicting that everyone has gotten this wrong like they did with other first entry MCU's like CM and BP. Even SC was lowballed. It managed 75m and it doesn't look anywhere near as exciting

Shang-Chi was supposed to open at $25M like a month ago before it released, until it didn't. There's a good chance Eternals opens at around $100M.

It's practically locked. It's such an easier sell than the likes of SC

Well, not by me 😛

All quantitative metrics at this point suggest that this will be a bit bigger than SC in interest, but not massively. Covid conditions will also be a lot better, though many people aren't too responsive to them. Put that together and I thinking 100-125 or so.

Advertising hasn't really started yet, maybe it+reviews click extremely well and it blows up to 150, marvel first entries have certainly done wilder stuff. But more common than BP/CM kind of openings is just hitting solid doubles with stuff like DS and SC.

I think the cast will help this too. It can't hurt having cast from the biggest TV series in recent history topped off with Angelina Jolie who's arguably the biggest female action draw

If Eternals goes for over $150m OW….

Hell, if they go for over $125m OW I’ll buy you a month of gold membership on here 👀

She was teased in Infinity War making her a heavy hitter. Eternals haven't been teased in anything. The trailers have not done as crazy as CM's.

I think 150M is crazy and pretty much impossible exactly because there's no avengers hook or a cultural reset, so i agreed with you.

But to be fair, Eternals views are better than Black Panther overall, and despite the teaser being lower than CM, the second trailer was on pair with CM on it's first day.
