After Oscars. I hope Marvel markets this properly instead of acting like the movie doesn't exist like they are now.

I think they are waiting until after May. If the summer season looks like it has revived they’re give it a massive push.

There's no point airing trailer during the Oscars since it's going to be a ratings disaster.  Just releasing it online will give it much bigger exposure than airing during Noscars. General public doesn't know who Zhao is, only movie buffs saw Nomadland, so tying Eternals to Zhao doesn't mean anything to masses while nerds like us who know already decided to watch. I mean, they can release it but it won't make a dent due to low viewership.

They're doing that because it isn't out for almost a year, and there was no knowledge on whether that release would stick.

It's slated for November. It's barely March! It's totally normal for them not to promote it yet.

In general too, we have mobile devices with almost every target audience. You Tube is much much bigger platform than Oscars or any big TV events imo.

I hope studios realise that and stop wasting money on those.

Nomadland seems to have gotten cancelled in China. I do wonder what this controversy about Zhao in China means for this film too.

I was wondering the same thing...

I think it´s way easier to cancel Nomadland than a Marvel movie, they´re probably thinking about this right now to have some conversations and even ask Zhao to apologize if necessary.

Since a lot of people support her on this nonsense discussion, i think there´s nothing to worry about.

The sentence "where there are lies everywhere" is a bit harsh tho. I'm sure she means the goverment, but some citizen might misunderstood it. The sentence needs to be clirified a bit, because I mean everyone at least lie for sometime, but that doesn't mean everyone in china is a liar or fake 😅

Remind me why we're still kowtowing to an uninformed populace and a central government that actively pursues a policy of preventing lingual and physical freedoms of faith and ideology?  Oh, that's right...money.

If I were Disney/Marvel (because the two can unfortunately never be thought of separately anymore), I would take a stand against this balderdash and stick to their plans; this would generate some goodwill for them in the west in the wake of the MULAN debacle, as well.  If China really has that big of a beef and refuses to release ETERNALS there, so be it.  If it's as good as we're hearing, I'm sure the movie will be huge everywhere else.

Topics like this are sensitive, especially today when there is so much resentment between the east and the west. If they still want Nomadland released in China, Zhao Ting should make an apology, after the Oscar of course. If not, that's ok too and Eternals should still be fine releasing in China.

What is the controversy tho.

Apparently:

“It goes back to when I was a teenager in China, being in a place where there are lies everywhere,”

Last week they were resurfaced by Chinese social media users, some of whom accused her of “smearing China”, and called for a boycott of the film.

Eternals’ fate in China depending on:

a) Zhao’s attitude and statement on her past words

b) Nomadland’s later road to Oscar

c) Reactions to Shang-Chi and its Asian elements from local audience

d) Communications between Disney and Chinese government

Best situation - Marvel continue roaring in China with the movie.

Worst - Eternals get banned in China.
