Barring some apocalyptic event, this will be the 100th Fox film to pass 100M domestic.

Also the MCU now has more films over 300M domestic than any of the big six studios except Disney itself, which has 25 over that mark. Second place is WB with 11 while the MCU has 12.

I already posted that a few days back in International, but I guess it is matching here too (also more actual):

Hmph, no idea how much dp2 is going to make this weekend. What does tracking say?

130-150M two weeks ago. Most anecdotical numbers we have at this point indicate an opening in the lower range of that, pretty much on par with the first ones OW.

DP on the low end is at 120 m OW.

But just like the walk ups for IW were underpredicted, so are the walk ups for DP2.

IW after opening Friday was supposed to make only 225 m OW.

135-150 m OW for DP2 wouldn't surprise me.

Interesting comparission. It's also worth to note the amount of movies needed to reach this cumulative gross. MCU needed 19 movies. Bond has 24 movies. Star Wars leads with just 10 movies (Is animated Clone Wars added?). Potter and Batman both have 9 movies.

1. agree, but also think the earlier on starting movies... it was another time in many ways, so I did look fo that too (quite extensivly even), but got to the conclusion to not concentrate on it too much (differences in alternative fre-time possibilities, other % in pre-known material like hw many reading fans and their age, and their male/female/age-groups,...).

But definitivly (very) interesting

2. nope

Speaking as someone who vocally found Deadpool 1 pretty annoying and tryhard, I am stunned to say that Deadpool 2 is......pretty great. Not the take I was expecting to give, but oh well! I mean it's still a lil annoying and try hard, too many dick jokes, but man is it funny sometimes, and I'm gonna be honest I think it nailed the emotional stuff better than 9 out of 10 of these movies.

I no longer have cool, edgy opinions. I'm a straight up casual.

This is the most surprising opinion of 2018 thus far and gets me even more excited for the movie

My biggest complain about the first movie, is that when comic book Deadpool is great, is when it manages to mix up the absurdist humor with bonafides emotional resonance. He's a broken man whose insanity is his shelter. Deadpool 1 failed on that account.

So if DP2 is an improvement on that department... well then I'm all in.

TBH, I'm more interested in this:

Quote

In other news, we’re hearing that Paramount’s older female-skewing Book Club could overindex its $9M-$10m tracking with a three-day that’s in the high teens, possibly $20M. That’s not off any 5PM preview projections tonight; rather, Fandango spotted advance ticket sales for the movie pacing with My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 ($17.8M), and far ahead of Last Vegas ($16.3M) and Going in Style($11.9M).

But, that's probably just me, lol.

It actually sold out the 7:00 show at my theater last night. Looks like this is gonna be a really good summer for films aimed at adult women between this, Ocean's 8, and Mamma Mia.

At least in my area, even the Thurs previews were kind of late breaking. Like fairly empty for most showings up until Wed and only then did you start seeing sellouts.

It also took MCU 10 years versus 40 for sw and almost 60 for bond. Bond and sw wished they could have 3 (or more if we count non-MCU marvel based films) succesfull movies each year.

MCU is the biggest brand globally currently, IW has cemented that.

Yes in certain markets it is not the biggest but globally it has.

Harry Potter, I would say was the biggest from 2002-2011.

Deadpool's insanity is his liberation from the confines of expectations, tropes, cliches, traditions and other trappings.

It's no coincidence he's the only one cognizant of the fact that he exist inside a comic book or movie.

Interesting comparission. It's also worth to note the amount of movies needed to reach this cumulative gross. MCU needed 19 movies. Bond has 24 movies. Star Wars leads with just 10 movies (Is animated Clone Wars added?). Potter and Batman both have 9 movies.

Yes but 90% of MCU movies are virtual spin offs and C-list characters which makes their rise even more impressive.
