Bond's just one character, so it's not really a worthwhile comparison.

Theoretically you could make Bond movies about other Bond side characters but they would flop.

Some franchises are intrinsically bigger than others and it's worth noting.

I actually remember some talk about bond spin offs that never amounted to anything.

Anyway marvel, not just MCU,  dominates in a ridiculous way which becomes more impressive each year. 2018 :black panther ->infinity war -> Deadpool 2-> ant man and the wasp-> Venom (which i expect to be a hit).

Yes but 90% of MCU movies are virtual spin offs and C-list characters which makes their rise even more impressive.

Yeah its true, I had never heard of Dr Stranged, marvel's thor, t'challer, mrs marvel, antman, waspwoman, widow, hawkeyed or the galaxy defenders before.

They've done well for themselves I got to say.

MCU is the biggest brand globally currently, IW has cemented that.

Yes in certain markets it is not the biggest but globally it has.

Harry Potter, I would say was the biggest from 2002-2011.

I think Lotr was about on par (or slightly bigger than) HP in the early 2000s.

It also took MCU 10 years versus 40 for sw and almost 60 for bond. Bond and sw wished they could have 3 (or more if we count non-MCU marvel based films) succesfull movies each year.

Umm the source material for the MCU is older than both of those.

The warning signs were there on this breaking out, but we ignored them. I don't even think @baumer was going this high on it :jeb!:

As for Show Dogs, there are no comps for it because family movies don't do this well while school is in session. The family drought is REAL

If we can get 17m Previews, I could see this being a realistic predict

Thu: 17m

Fri: 39.1m

Sat: 45.8m

Sun: 34.3m

3-Day: 136.2m 3 Day

Way overshooting would be

Thu: 17m

Fri: 51m

Sat: 57m

Sun: 41.6m

3 Day: 166.6m

A tame predict would be

Thu: 17m

Fri: 34m

Sat: 40.8m

Sun: 30.6m

3 Day:122.4m

What film is breaking out?  Book Club?

I think you mean Book club looks to do well.  I didn't predict an opening weekend number I just said I thought it would do well.  The cast is just a huge selling point for me and I think the angle of senors getting their groove back is a good selling point for adults.  So hopefully those early numbers are accurate.  I'd love to see this one do well.

I've said a bunch that I think the Star Wars spinoffs hurt the brand. XCU and DCU doesn't build the hype of well-liked ones into more money for the others (didn't really capitalize on Wonder Woman or Deadpool), and things like the Monsters Cinematic Universe or the other Monsters Cinematic Universe (kaiju cinematic universe) don't have juice either. No other franchise is gonna be able to do it, unless it's a hard reboot leading to something like Ocean's 8. Things like Bourne obviously fail, and Bumblebee probably will. Good case that the cinematic universe thing is a truly good idea for MCU only.

Look I didn't go gaga for Infinity War and I'm certainly no MCU stan but shit is just so fucking impressive. Maybe not good for the biz in every sense.....but certainly impress as all hell in a vacuum how they've pulled this whole thing off. A true feat.
