It won't recover to that extent. But a well liked movie after a well liked Kong will lead to GvK recovering to that extent. You slowly build the reception back before you do the big build up film in the universe. Again, it's the opposite of what they did with JL, aka the wrong strategy. And it will work much better. All assuming Godzilla 2 actually delivers this time of course. If they pull more of that 100 minute build up/5 minute climax bullshit of the first again, then yeah  GvK is fucked. But thankfully I don't think Edwards has gotten anywhere near the film, so we should be good.

Nolan is such an anomaly in today s franchise landscape.

He earned his status and freedom playing the franchise game his own way.

It don't have to. Avengers came after bad IM2 and not so good performance of tfa and thor. It's the concept that can make $130m+ ow possible.

But Iron Man was very well received, not hated. Godzilla legs were so bad they were a running gag on here until a certain other big branded movie out-did them

 

And Idk how novel a vs movie is anymore, especially if Godzilla 2 is Godzilla fighting a bunch of monsters

Even with Godzilla 2 having him (her?) fighting other monsters, there is a definite audience hook in King Kong vs Godzilla. The other monsters are not as well known to the GA outside the kaiju fandom. Kong vs Zilla otoh should interest people who normally have no interest in monster movies.

The sad thing for the Kennedy haters is all they have is a film for the franchise that's underperforming. It's not going to have any of the effects they want it to have. Her job is secure. The anthology films continue. They just have a lost film.
