Really, I agree the Obi Wan idea has more traction than Solo, especially if they can differentiate it in its appeal.  Tonally it really needs to divert a bit.  Solo was decent enough, but I along with many others just had no excitement for it.  This, I kinda do.

 

Also...really this needs to cost half what Solo did.  There’s room for it to be successful as a 150m movie and make 500-600m.  Star Wars will be more flexible if it can have movies succeed in that space.

And I'm talking about the photography, not the mood.

I mean most scenes were a little greyish or muddy brown but they were fine. However those first scenes on Correllia and some of the space scenes were so dark I was squinting.

 

How the fuck did they mess that up ? I saw it in 2D so I don't know if the experience was different in 3D but that was weird. Also that blue light scene with the worm queen thing from Corellia was hard to see for me.

I agree somewhat, but i think it will work well in HDR. Most cinemas though dont have the contrast ratio to pull it off, I suspect it will be fine on UHD blu-ray. Ive seen this trend more and more lately, they seem to be making movies with the future in mind.

I'm honestly curious to read the Disney tie-in novel with Solo, the prequel one with him and Qi'ra. I've heard it really strengthens how you view their relationship in the movie.

 

Also, since there's zero chance at a sequel, I would love to see them at least do a novel wrapping up Qi'ra's story, either as a sequel to Solo, or a prequel in terms of how she became involved with Crimson Dawn. Or have it serve as both.

This could easily get squeezed out in a year with bigger blockbusters. They're not usually into nominating flops even for tech categories.

about the first 20-30 min, my expectations had risen to placing this slightly above Rogue One, but Solo: Star Wars is my tenth favorite Star Wars films.  It is still my favorite movie of the year by a long shot though.

 

It will be interesting to see what they do with the sequel.

yes, for my Star Wars movie fandom it is my least favorite.  I will definitely need to see it again, I don't remember too much for overall story remembrance.

First, it obviously deserved them - being visually far more impressive than any movie last year (or this year so far).

Second, for whatever reason it never became famous primarily as a box office bomb, probably because it never got anywhere near as much coverage in general as a SW movie.
