Xander Newton is taking a moment to thank moviegoers and exhibitors for the success of ‘The Howling’ and what he calls the “incredible reception” for ‘Silent Hill: Innocence Lost.’ He confirms that sequels to both films are in the early stages of development.

Newton apologizes to horror fans for Red Crescent’s small number of releases in Y3, promising their plans for the coming year are “much more substantial.”

Newton gives an update on Christophe Gans’ horror film ‘Under’ which was originally intended for release in Y2 but has still not started shooting. He says there have been “unexpected complications” with the development process. The movie will still get made, he insists, but there is no timeframe currently.

Red Crescent’s first Y4 release will be ‘Spirit Curse,’ which Newton confirms is just a working title. It’s a remake of the obscure J-Horror ‘Ju-Rei’ and will be helmed by Kôji Shiraishi, the director of the original, in his English-language film debut. Newton describes it as “a slow-burn ghost story told in reverse” and promises it will focus on suspense. Tentative release date is January 3, Y4.

The second film from Red Crescent in Y4 will be ‘N.,’ based on the novella of the same name by Stephen King. Frank Darabont, director of previous King adaptations like ‘The Mist’ and ‘The Shawshank Redemption,’ directs. Described as “a paranoid thriller that blurs the line between the mind and the supernatural” which will “hopefully leave people freaked out long after they see it.” Releases on Friday the 13th in March Y4.

April 24th, Y4 sees the release of ‘Son of Rosemary.’ Newton describes it as “a direct sequel to the 1968 classic” ‘Rosemary’s Baby,’ and says it will be “a contemporary update” of Ira Levin’s 1997 novel of the same name. It will be directed by Alejandro Amenábar, the director of ‘The Others.’

Newton confirms that Mia Farrow will star in ‘Son of Rosemary,’ returning to the role of Rosemary Woodhouse she played in the 1968 film. The movie centers around the elderly Rosemary’s suspicions about whether her now-adult son has really escaped the evil influences that were responsible for his birth.

‘The Actress,’ a supernatural horror film from director Greg McLean which was previously announced for a release in Y3 before being delayed, is now “back on track for release this coming summer.” The new release date is August 21, Y4.

‘The Actress’ is confirmed to be a remake of the Thai horror film ‘Phii Khon Pen.’ Newton describes it as “the twisty, frightening story of a young woman whose passion for performing gets her in horribly over her head when she attracts the attention of the dead as well as the living.”

After being replaced in its pre-Halloween Y3 slot by ‘Silent Hill,’ ‘The Amityville Nightmare II’ will be reclaiming its place on the calendar for Y4. While Newton says they considered using the delay to bring David F. Sandberg, director of the first film, back, they ultimately decided to stick with ‘The Woman in Black’ director James Watkins for the sequel.

Newton elaborates that, though it “is a direct sequel,” the second film will be “very different from the first one in tone, pacing, and structure,” and so it was decided a fresh face behind the camera would be fitting. Actors Anne Heche, Lee Pace, and Tony Goldwyn are confirmed to return, though Heche’s role is “considerably smaller.”

‘The Amityville Nightmare III’ is already in development, Newton confirms, and will conclude the trilogy. David F. Sandberg is in negotiations to return as director for the final chapter. ‘The Amityville Nightmare II’ hits theatres on October 23, Y4.

The previously-untitled November 20, Y4 release from Red Crescent and cult Japanese director Takashi Miike (‘Audition,’ ‘Ichi the Killer’) is unveiled. The movie is entitled ‘Flights of Fire.’ The plot specifics are still under wraps, but Newton says it’s “not quite just a horror movie.” The film will be “disturbing and scary, but the hope is also for a strong dramatic and emotional core” and a “deep focus on the characters.” He also promises plenty of Miike’s “trademark weirdness.”

Newton says that’s all for the official announcements from Red Crescent for now. However, he leaves us with “one small tease,” saying that Red Crescent is in unfinalized negotations with “a prominent but controversial filmmaker” to co-proudce and distribute “a politically-charged contemporary thriller.” He says more news will come when and if talks are finalized.

The middle portion of the conference will focus on Rising Crescent Pictures, TriCrescent’s family film division. James Arix, head of both Rising Crescent and Gold Crescent, takes over hosting duties. Arix says that Rising Crescent is in “a transitional period” and that TriCrescent Media is looking to “devote more resources and energy to generating quality family content,” and acknowledges the poor performance of ‘Cupid’s Quest’ and the division’s lack of overall output.

Rising Crescent will release the action-fantasy sequel ‘American Dragon: Darkness Rising’ on April 17, Y4. The follow-up to the Y2 film ‘American Dragon: Jake Long’ will see the return of director Jon Turteltaub and most of the first movie’s cast. It will also introduce the Dark Dragon, an ancient, evil force with a hatred of humankind, as the new villain. The plan going forward is to make the series a trilogy that concludes with a third film.

‘Samurai Pizza Cats 2,’ featuring the return of the voice cast and director Giancarlo Volpe from the original, will hit theaters on September 18, Y4. Arix says the sequel will have more action and higher stakes alongside the original series and first film’s madcap humor.
