‘Crysis’ tells the story of a soldier outfitted with an experimental “nanosuit” who is deployed to an island apparently under invasion by North Korea – only to discover the invaders hail not from a totalitarian country, but outer space. Mark Wahlberg plays Michael “Psycho” Sykes, another member of the main character’s unit.

‘Crysis’ is being shot with the Arri-developed IMAX 3D digital camera system, based on the Alexa 65 large-format digital cinema camera. It hits theaters in IMAX 3D as well as standard 2D and 3D formats on July 3, Y4. The IMAX version will feature an expanded 1.90:1 aspect ratio for the entire duration of the film.

Arix addresses the poor reviews and box office performance of ‘Indigenous,’ the studio’s second feature in the revived panoramic Cinerama format. He admits the film was rushed and needed more time in development. However, he says, Gold Crescent has not abandoned the format, which he insists “offers a uniquely immersive premium moviegoing experience.”

The next Cinerama production is ‘Gorgo,’ a remake of the 1961 monster movie of the same name. ‘Gorgo’ is helmed by Doug Liman, who directed Gold Crescent’s first Cinerama picture, ‘The Knight.’ The movie was originally developed with the intention of being the second modern Cinerama film before ‘Indigenous’ was fast-tracked in an attempt to maintain interest in the format.

‘Gorgo’ is about the discovery of a large reptilian creature, which is brought to London by scheming showmen for exhibition. The plan leads to tragedy when it turns out the beast is actually just a baby, and its furious, 300-foot mother goes on a rampage through the capital to retrieve him.

‘Gorgo’ will smash into limited release on panoramic Cinerama screens on July 24, Y4, followed by a wide expansion into standard theaters on July 31. Arix pledges that Gold Crescent is working to make sure ‘Gorgo’ has “the widest Cinerama-format release of any film since the 1960s.”

Gold Crescent will wrap up the summer with ‘The Swarm,’ a remake of the 1978 Irwin Allen disaster flick of the same name. Though the original film was a notorious flop, Arix insists that “this remake is a lot more polished, streamlined, and fun,” and expresses optimism for its chances at the box office.

Arix reveals that ‘The Swarm’ has already wrapped production with director Roland Emmerich (‘Independence Day,’ ‘The Day After Tomorrow,’ ‘2012’) and a cast including Jude Law, Amy Adams, Kurt Russell, Megan Fox, Vivica A. Fox, and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

‘The Swarm’ is about a massive colony of mutant killer bees that takes out a military base in southern Texas before invading a small town and then setting its sights on Houston. Jude Law stars as a military scientist in charge of the operation to contain the buzzing menace. The film hits screens on August 28, Y4.

Arix is relatively tight-lipped about ‘Tattooed Teenage 4lien Fighters from Beverly Hills,’ the superhero-comedy sequel scheduled for September 11, Y4. “It’ll be the craziest one yet,” he insists, “And it’ll pick up all the plot threads from the third movie and run with them.”

Most of the main cast is returning for TT4FfBH, Arix confirms, with the exception of Jason Statham. “That doesn’t mean the team is going to be down a member for the whole movie, though,” he hints. Director Rawson Marshall-Thurber returns as well.

‘Extreme Dinosaurs II’ tears into screens on October 9, Y4, nearly three years after the first film. Arix admits it “took longer than we’d have liked” to get it together, but says he’s “very excited” for people to see it. He also claims he’s “not especially worried” about the gap between films. The sequel is directed by Dave Green of ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows’ and ‘The Space Pirates.’

Following up on the success of Y1’s ‘White Hurricane’ and this year’s ‘Catacylsmic’ is the third entry in what Arix describes as the studio’s “not-quite franchise” of historical disaster dramas. Entitled ‘The Matinee,’ it’s directed by Rian Johnson and will be shot on a combination of 15-perf, 65mm IMAX film and Arri’s new Alexa LF digital cinema camera for IMAX 3D release. The IMAX version will feature the full expanded 1.44:1 ratio for the entire film.

‘The Matinee’ will be a fictionalized take on the deadliest single-building fire in American history, which took place during a matinee performance at the Iroquois Theater in Chicago in 1903. Arix describes the film as “sweeping and epic in feel, but very tense and claustrophobic.” The cast is still under wraps, but will include “a lot of heavy-hitters.”

That wraps up the conference. Arix promises they’ll have “a bigger show of it” next year.

I know 1 came out Y1, 2 came out Y2, but which was the third one?

The third one was in SSSS when the main guy and that one girl were on a movie date. The movie was playing in the background and it had goofy cartoon sound effects.

Which is pretty funny actually.
