Let's begin with our first look:

Huge laughter and applause as we see this first look at AERA: RISING. Daron Nefcy prepares to present as we begin to look into the film - set 30 years before the events of Spark: Rising. Note that Aera's species lives for hundreds of years, so it was quite easy to recast Aubrey Plaza as Aera. The plot follows her as she tries to make it in galactic society, namely Celestial Haven.

Unfortunately, after crossing the wrong person, she gets her visa denied and may be forced to return home. However, she makes a deal to recover a stolen priceless artifact. If she can get it returned 7 days, her Visa will be renewed easily. To do this, she runs in with a band of rugged outlaws, including the charming womanizer (except rather feminist and yes, openly lesbian) Warlene (Elizabeth Debicki), a wolf-like alien with reddish fur. Also on her side are Dag, (John Cena) a hulking robot who has recently discovered Earth culture from an underground source - specifically Broadway musicals. Finally, there is Gippir, (Lil 'Rel Howery) a genius with a few nervous ticks and extreme germaphobia. As they embark on a madcap chase through the city, curiously wondering why they didn't just call the police, they'll discover that there's more to this case than meets the eye.

The film will be an exciting and hilarious journey that adds to the mythology of the Spark Saga while lovingly poking fun at it in certain places, all while featuring several surprises and exciting secrets along the way. Aera: Rising drops July 10th in IMAX and DOLBY Cinema.

Not saying we used black magic to revive Venchell but we did make some... sacrifices... and we gave him some biological upgrades... and a bald head to boot.

BLUMHOUSE PRODUCTIONS

GARY SANCHEZ PICTURES

*We see the inside of a studio - Abbey meets with producers Leigh (Elizabeth Banks) and Jack (Matt Dillon), as well as director, Sam (Danny McBride). The set is very much akin to a kids show, set in a magical forest outside a big, colorful house.*

Leigh: You absolutely nailed the audition, Fisher. Hope you can bring that same energy to the first day. You're gonna crush it.

Sam: Pretend you're this generation's Leo McAllister.

*We cut to archive footage from a 80s style TV filming where Leo (Lakeith Stanfield) speaks with some puppers, namely Benji the otter and Daphne the dolphin.*

Leo: Golly, I'm so excited to learn so much today!

Abbey: But....he vanished.

Sam: Then....Natalie Wood?

Jack: She drowned.

Sam: ....Phil Hartman?

Jack: Okay, just stop.

(0:21)

FROM THE DIRECTOR OF ACADEMY

*The music stops*

*At night in the studio, a janitor is cleaning up. He sees the Benji puppet. As he turns away, the puppet jumps him and starts stabbing him repeatedly.*

(0:56)

*We see a lot of commotion over the murder*

Leigh: Holy shit, this is horrifying. We need to stop production.

Jack: This could just be a prank, we keep filming.

Abbey: Are you sure that's a good idea?

Jack: I'm the head of this production company, so if it comes from me, it's a good idea.

(1:03)

*We see Thomas Aldrich (Michael Shannon), Benji's puppeteer, looking out a window.*

Thomas: I need to escape from all this. I can't destroy the puppet. In his beady eyes...

*We see Thomas holding the Benji puppet in his hands*

Thomas: ....I wanna smack that fucking grin off his face.

*He punches it repeatedly. No damage is done. People try to get him and pull it away. As the puppet is on his hand, it turns around to face him, snapping bones in his arms. He screams*

(Jump to 1:38)

*Abbey runs through a hallway as the lights flicker.*

(1:41)

NEXT FEBRUARY

(2:25-2:27)

*The soundstage is in flames*

*Jack, doused in blood, holds a shotgun.*

*A prop tree nearly falls on someone's head.*

*A puppet carries a hammer*

*Abbey calls from a bathroom, her shirt bloodied up and her nearly in sobbing hysterics.*

Abbey: I shouldn't have taken this fucking job!

BENJI & ME

February Y4

As the audience cheers, Michael Dougherty promises a ridiculous, bloody fun time. The demonic puppet movie will definitely play more towards Comedy than Horror, but it won't be afraid to get really, really, twisted in places. The final 30 minutes supposedly make Blood and Fur look like Don't Let The Pigeon Drive.
