Mad Max Fury Road dropped 42.5% the weekend after MD. I'm not saying that IW is going to drop that well but I really don't see why it's going to fall off a cliff when literally every single weekend IW has had great drops. And it's weekday drops this week indicate another solid hold for it especially with literally no competition this weekend (which usually has competition)

I didn't say fall of a cliff. I said GotG2's 35% 6th weekend drop is virtually impossible for IW to do in the weekend after MD. Unless it defies prior holdover rules of that weekend.

The way AIW is pacing this week it should drop better.  It's numbers are ahead of AOU's and that did $11.4m which would be a drop in the low 30%s for AIW

That was its 5th weeknd. This is IW's 6th. You're right it will break away though, since it won't have as good of a hold as GotG2's 35%, since it's virtually impossible for holdovers to drop sub 40% the weekend after MD.

Yeah I know, both movies are a week apart in terms of their release but the drops and holds have been similar anyway when I align the actual calendars and not where each film is in their release (aka IW's 5th Wednesday drop is almost identical to GotGV2's 4th Wednesday drop, as both are ultimately coming off Memorial Day weekend, which seems more relevant than week of release).

Right but why would it follow GOTG2 weekend holds when they weren't released the same weekend? I would more or less compare the actual weekends that they're in at this point (i.e. post MD weekend) than what number weekend they're in. I'd say a 40% drop for IW is possible

Locked and with ease.

The IW number is actually quite good, only a 23% week to week drop, maybe the fact that the book club is holding better is blinding some people.

I hope so. But it would be one of the only movies that ever made over 5m this weekend and dropped under 40% in that case. Only one from this decade is Bridesmaids.

Well damn it's actually going to do it! I stopped following it 2 weeks ago when it cemented itself as #4 WW and #4 DOM

$1.9 last Wed. 23% week to week drop

AOU did $1.429m on it's comparative MD Wed and made $11.4m that w/e with $54m San Andreas opening.

Exactly. I don't know why some are acting sad with Infinity War numbers, this is a fucking excellent drop. Solo and DP2 tho.... ouch.

Compare the data. Regardless of the fact IW was released one week earlier, its behaviour in May is still strikingly similar to GotGV2. I thought the same as you at first but the more I've aligned the two, the more I've realized IW being one week ahead doesn't matter. Memorial weekend, and the subsequent weekdays, for IW behaved just like GotGV2, even though one was in its 5th week and one in its 4th week.

But, as @MovieMan89 and I were saying, and to your point, IW will likely veer off that comparison tomorrow. At the same point on the calendar - not in their release - GotGV2 only jumped 91.2% on Friday due to WONDER WOMAN, and only 55.1% on Saturday. I expect IW to perform much better than that given what it's up against this weekend in comparison.

There's no competition this w/e.  There usually is.  It's a dead zone and right now AIW is holding at lower than 30% drop from weekdays.

AIW would have to have a slightly bigger Thur drop, a smaller Friday jump and significantly lower internal multiplier to do under $10.5m which would still be slightly under a 40% drop
