Watched the first hour and a half on HBO Max, but sadly, I think we are leaving it there.  Bland and uninspiring, as someone said upthread.  Too bad.  I enjoy musicals and was excited for this one. But, big oof.

Fans of the show say the movie cut out a lot (apparently 8 songs), while I'm watching and thinking it's a bit too much of an ensemble piece and there's not enough focus on Usnavi if he's supposed to be the main character.

Never seen the musical but have to say absolutely loved this film nearly as much as the Hamilton movie on Disney+. 

 

Think seeing it in the cinemas helped get through the length as it certainly felt long at times. Loved the 2nd half especially.

The box office will cost this movie nominations as a whole I think. If it had done better at the box office, it would be on the fast track for Best picture nomination, but WB is going to concentrate on King Richard and Dune instead. King Richard for the above the line stuff, Dune for below the line.

Its a damn shame because if this had really broken out it'd likely have been a real contender, even with West Side Story.

100% - she's the soul and best part of the movie...pretty much the only subplot worth watching, and the main plot falls apart once she's gone.  I'm in for a Nom for her...

Update: I'm still mad at how badly this got fucked by HBO Max/covid. This is a Best Pic contender dammit, and it's going to be absolutely washed.
