BOT Revisiting: Top 25 Movies of 2008 | Deadline - September 7 | Read the eligibility rules...Ethan Hunt taking over...send lists to him

Recommended Posts

The title is pretty self-explanatory.  List for your top 25 films of 2008, yada yada.

Eligibility

Every film from this list below can qualify as long as it had a release in the US in 2008 and is at least 40 minutes long.  If you have any questions on if something qualifies, ask me:

https://letterboxd.com/films/popular/year/2008/size/small/

In addition to this, I also have a list of films that are listed as other years on IMDb, Wikipedia, Letterboxd, etc. that I will allow to be qualified for this year due to when they were released in America.  They're put under the spoiler tags.  If you think anything shouldn't belong on the list below, let me know.

Scoring:

The part that I fear the most because I have no idea how I'm supposed to score this.  I'll try my best but if this sounds like a fucking stupid way to you, I probably won't deny it (as long as I trust you ) and might change it.

You should submit a minimum of 15 movies, although try to submit 25 if you can.  Each film will be scored as such:

1st place - 25 points

2nd place - 24 points

3rd place - 23 points

etc.

If you would like to submit more than 25 films, 26-50 will be worth a half point, and 51-100 will be worth a quarter point.  You may not submit more than 100 (I highly doubt anyone will try to do this, but just in case)

Make sure to submit your list to me via PM if you want it to count.  If you post it in this thread but don't send me a PM, then it won't be eligible.

And no, Avatar is not a 2008 film.

Have fun!

Why is Hurt Locker (the film that robbed Avatar of it's best picture award) in that letterboxed page?

anyone got a list of 2008 films which is less than 500

It's not eligible, it's listed there because of a film festival release

Generally you can double check IMDb and see when it was released in the US if you want to confirm

Also you can sort the list by popularity or highest rating if you wanna prioritize anything, shouldn't be too hard to skip through the stuff you don't wanna watch

May I suggest dropping this "released in the US in 2008" thingy?

Why not just go with the release date on official movie database websites?

I understand why it's important for recent years (2016, 2017, etc) to give time to watch them, but 2008... it's a bit of a while ago to be honest. Everyone had time to catch up with foreign movie releases since 2008 if they really wanted to.

Really makes it very complicated to keep track. On the letterboxd list above many movies aren't eligible, and then we also have to check 2007, 2006, 2009 lists to see if titles from these years are elligible?

 :hahaha:

Just a suggestion, do whatever you want. But I think it needlessly complicates things for movies made 10 years ago.
