Tron: Ares | October 10, 2025 | Jared Leto to star, Joachim Ronning to direct

Wouldn't be surprised if Disney moves TRON 3 to Star Wars Episode VIII's current date and shifts VIII to Christmas 2017. If Avatar 2 isn't going to release in 2017, Disney ought to capitalize.

Not to mention TRON 3 is a lot better for GotG 2 than Star Wars anything  :P

TRON LEGACY didn't really do well. If they scheduled TRON III for May, other studios would put their bigger film their. It wouldn't be a threat for them.

If Disney holds off long enough, they could definitely prevent any further films from moving into May.

I just don't get why they would film it over 2 years before release... unless they plan on a Fall release (October 2017?)

Disney should wait and see where Avatar is by next year. If it isn't going to make the 2017 release date, hey really should keep SW8 in May as long as they can to scare other studios away, and then BAM move it to December and have Tron drop on Memorial Day weekend.

Not happening according to Hollywood Reporter. Interesting decision by Disney.

The Tomorrowland effect :) too late to pull Pirates 5 or AiW, so Tron will have to go I guess.

Tron Legacy was not a money loser but it didn't exactly set the world alight either. But the major concern would be that neither Garret Hedlund nor Olivia Wilde became big stars in the past 5 years. Wonder what Disney will try for their next live action tent pole.

Yes it was. Only $400 million globally on a $170 million production cost, not counting global marketing and distribution.

Tron didn't make money.

Nor did it lose much money, but it was hardly profitable. But I was still optimistic they were going forward with this. Guess they finally looked at the numbers.

Disney Pulls Plug on ‘Tron 3′

So Tomorrowland pretty much killed this movie? :o

Honestly, this movie never made sense financially in the first place.

But I was hoping they'd do it anyway...cause a Fury Road may be in a similar financial quandary with regards to a sequel. But unlike this...it's universally loved...so that may sway it.
