Spoiler

The year is 2035. A pair of respected American anthropologists, Dr. David Rosenthal (Kevin Costner) and his daughter Dr. Helena Rosenthal (Olivia Munn), are continuing their years-long search for evidence of advanced ancient civilizations. Their work has taken them to Lingshan Island, a tropical island in the South China Sea. Unfortunately, their excavation is interrupted when the North Korean army, led by General Kyong (Will Yun Lee), invades the island. The North Koreans take the Rosenthals and their research team hostage, but force them to continue the excavation at gunpoint. They have sensed strange energy signatures from this island and are hoping to claim whatever is discovered for the North Korean military.

Helena manages to send out a message to a contact of hers in the CIA; the agency has been secretly bankrolling their research because the American military also wants to be able to benefit from any discoveries made. A top-secret US military strike team known as Raptor Team is dispatched to Lingshan Island to extract the scientists and ensure the North Koreans don't get any of their research or discoveries. The team is led by Laurence Barnes, codename Prophet (Laurence Fishburne), a highly-decorated former Marine. Serving under his command are Michael Sykes, codename Psycho (Mark Wahlberg), formerly of the Army; Martin Hawker, codename Jester (Eka Darville), ex-Navy, and Jake Dunn, codename Nomad (Scott Eastwood), a former Air Force pilot and the newest recruit to the team. Nomad's father, now deceased, was a Marine who used to serve with Prophet before he was transferred to Raptor Team. Jester and Psycho don't know this; while Nomad was selected based primarily on his skills and qualifications, Prophet worried the other members of the team will question his recruitment if they find out about their personal connection.

The mission to Lingshan Island will be the first deployment of a new piece of tech developed specifically for Raptor Team - a specialized high tech armor called the "Nanosuit." Constructed of nanofiber synthetic muscles, the full-body suits enhance the wearers' strength and speed to superhuman levels. They can also protect their users from radiation, toxins and chemical weapons, and extreme environmental conditions, and feature built-in nightvision and communications systems. Each member of the team is equipped with one, despite only having minimal training with them. The suits are highly classified and are equipped with remote destruction functions which will allow them - and the body inside - to be vaporized without a trace in the event the wearer is killed or captured.

Raptor Team arrives on Lingshan Island via HALO jump, skydiving from incredible height to avoid detection. In midair, some unknown flying object or creature - seen only briefly in silhouette - collides with them, scattering them and resulting in each team member landing some distance from the others. They all make their way to a rendezvous point at the bend of a river, encountering North Korean soldiers along the way. They are shocked to discover the North Koreans are wearing modified Nanosuits based on an older prototype. Still, the newer production models are much more advanced and powerful, and so each member of Raptor Team is able to take down the enemy troops they encounter. When they convene at the rendezvous point, they find a boat - belonging to David and Helena Rosenthal - abandoned on the river's bank. It and a whole section of the river around it are inexplicably frozen solid.

Prophet reasons that the Koreans must have a mole in the CIA; that's presumably how they knew the US government was interested in the Rosenthals' research and were able to get the prototype Nanosuits. However, he can't explain the frozen boat, or the thing that seemed to attack them in midair - until suddenly it shows up again. It's some sort of flying machine, like an attack drone, but it's not one they recognize and it's too advanced for the Koreans. It's joined by another just like it, and in the battle, Jester is grabbed by one of the flying bots. His Nanosuit protects him from the drone's attempts to kill him - until, with a rapidly-flashing laser beam transmitting data optically, the drone somehow manages to interface with the suit's systems, shutting them down. His Nanosuit disabled, Jester is easily killed. The other three members of Raptor Team manage to destroy the robots, and Prophet is forced to manually trigger Jester's vaporization.

The three proceed toward the camp, and en-route, they discover the body of one of the members of the research team - like the boat, it is completely frozen solid, dead. Unfortunately, it's also bait for an ambush. A group of alien lifeforms in robotic exosuits emerges from the rainforest, surrounding the team. The aliens manage to force Prophet, Nomad, and Psycho apart from one another, though the others watch as Psycho is captured, another of the flying drones appearing and seeming to disable his suit as had happened to Jester. Eventually they all lose sight of one another in the jungle. We follow Nomad, who manages to kill the aliens that are attacking him. However, when he goes searching for Prophet and Psycho, he cannot find them or the aliens.

Unsure of whether he is the only survivor, Nomad sends out a distress signal with his Nanosuit's communications systems. He manages to contact Major Clarence Strickland of the US Marines; Strickland formerly served under Prophet and is one of the few people outside of the CIA or Raptor Team itself to be fully aware of the team's existence. He's also aware of Nomad's indirect relationship to Prophet, and in his audio conversations with Nomad, we get the sense he is skeptical of Nomad's qualifications. When Nomad informs him that Jester is dead and Prophet and Psycho are missing, and that the Koreans have stolen Nanosuit tech, Major Strickland reveals that he is just off the island's coast aboard the battleship USS Constitution. He has his own team of Marines ready to go as a backup plan. He "suggests," rather pointedly, that Nomad abandon the mission and allow the Marines to take over, but Nomad refuses, saying he will continue on to the scientists' dig site.

When Nomad reaches the site of the excavation, he is surprised to encounter only minimal resistance from the North Koreans. He rather easily kills the enemy soldiers, freeing Dr. David Rosenthal, but demanding answers. Dr. Rosenthal admits that his research has already been much more successful than assumed; he and his daughter had already discovered highly-advanced alien technology in other parts of the world. In fact, it was the initial discovery that attracted the attention of the CIA, and the agency has been working to reverse-engineer the tech for years; the Nanosuits are based largely off this same alien technology, explaining why the alien drones are able to interface with them. David has nearly finished retrieving an artifact at this site, but there is a secondary site miles away where his daughter was taken by General Kyong.

Nomad contacts Major Strickland to inform him of David's rescue and Helena's whereabouts as David finishes uncovering the artifact - but before Nomad can arrange an extraction for him, David is frozen solid and killed by a blast of energy from the alien artifact. The entire campsite is frozen, but Nomad's Nanosuit is just barely able to save him from the effects of the flash freeze. With the news of David's death, and still no word from Prophet or Psycho, Major Strickland declares he'll be seeking authorization for a full invasion of the island by his Marines in an attempt to salvage the situation. However, he does not have any direct authority over Nomad, and so Nomad decides to proceed to the secondary dig site at the base of a mountain near the center of the island.

Nomad discovers that the secondary site is a battlefield, North Korean troops locked in combat with exosuited aliens and flying drones. The Korean soldiers are losing badly; not all of them are even equipped with Nanosuit prototypes, and those who aren't are picked off easily by the aliens, which demonstrate they can emit their own freezing pulses from their armor. Nomad is startled by the sound of someone approaching him from behind, but it's just Psycho - his Nanosuit slightly damaged, his communications systems offline. The two re-team and storm into the excavation site, blasting away at enemies both human and alien. Nomad sees a large group of the aliens are attempting to blast their way through a cave wall, and decides to try and stop them. Psycho continues on in search of Helena.

Nomad is in over his head. There are too many aliens, and he is forced to slowly pick them off one at a time from behind cover. Meanwhile, Psycho finds Helena and General Kyong hiding in a storage container. He fights Kyong one-on-one, telling Helena to leave. The scientist makes a run for it, but is soon discovered by the aliens. Her screams for help attract Nomad's attention, and he goes to protect her, escorting her out of the dig site and abandoning his assault on the group of aliens blasting away inside the cave. The pair make their escape while Psycho and Kyong fight. Kyong is more skilled in close-quarters combat, but ultimately the superior power of Psycho's more advanced Nanosuit allows him to defeat the enemy commander. He delivers the killing blow and prepares to make his own escape...

...Just as the aliens break through the cavern wall. An enormous pulse of the cryokinetic energy is triggered, freezing the mountain itself and shattering it like an ice sculpture smashed with a sledgehammer. Psycho, with his damaged suit unable to protect him from the extreme temperature change, is flash-frozen to death. As the mountain collapses, it reveals a gigantic alien building within - almost the size of the mountain itself. The freezing blast continues outward as a swiftly-expanding sphere. Nomad and Helena are in the process of boarding an evacuation helicopter sent from the USS Constitution as this happens; the chopper is forced to take off in a hurry to escape the blast, and in the turbulence, Nomad falls off. The helicopter, and Helena, just manage to clear the blast, which slows its expansion and solidifies into an enormous, miles-wide orb of energy - the entire interior of Lingshan Island now frozen solid, a glimmering, icy nightmare.

Nomad's Nanosuit allows him to survive inside the sphere of ice, but Major Strickland says no one will be coming to rescue him as they can't survive inside the frozen area without a Nanosuit. Noticing a flurry of alien activity inside the huge structure where the mountain used to be - which seems to be powering up in stages - Nomad decides to infiltrate the facility to try and put a stop to whatever it is they're doing himself. He is able to sneak inside, using stealth tactics and quiet melee attacks to dispatch the aliens he encounters. Inside he finds that the structure seems to be some sort of giant command center for a war or invasion. There are even dozens, perhaps hundreds of flying vehicles - spaceships? - just sitting around, waiting to spread over the planet.

Nomad tries to destroy the equipment in what seems to be a control room, but his rampage quickly draws attention to himself. He flees through the facility and eventually winds up hiding in some sort of laboratory. There he finds several human captives from both the research team and the North Korean military, who have been captured and experimented on. Also there is Prophet, unconscious, but still in his Nanosuit. Nomad manages to rouse Prophet, who explains that the aliens had re-activated his suit and performed strange tests and experiments on it with him inside, which eventually knocked him out.

Nomad and Prophet are discovered by the aliens and engage in a heated battle. Prophet decides to sacrifice himself so that Nomad can escape and return to the USS Constitution and warn them of what is inside the facility. He tells Nomad to try and fly one of the spaceships out of the base, saying that if the alien's tech can interface with the Nanosuits, he may be able to control the ship with his suit. Nomad says Prophet should go, but Prophet orders him to leave instead. We do not see what happens to Prophet, but he certainly looks outmatched. Nomad makes his way back to the spaceship hangar and successfully hijacks a vehicle, flying it out of the ice sphere and landing on the deck of the Constitution, several miles out at sea, after narrowly avoiding being shot down by finally convincing Major Strickland it's really him flying the thing.

Helena, who was successfully evacuated to the ship, meets with Nomad. It turns out that the Marines have decided to call in a nuclear strike on the island, despite her warnings that this is probably a bad idea. She and Nomad try to convince Major Strickland to call it off, but he refuses to even meet with them in person, simply shouting Nomad down over the comm-link. Sure enough, when a nuclear missile is launched at the alien fortress, the aliens scramble their aircraft. The ships capture the missile in some sort of energy tether, and begin flying it back out towards the battleship. Panic sets in when it turns out the aliens have jammed the controls that could disarm the warhead.

Major Strickland orders every helicopter onboard to engage the enemy in an air battle. Nomad re-boards his stolen spaceship and joins in the fight. It's a good thing, too - the helicopters are basically useless, the whole lot of them being wiped out almost immediately. The USS Constitution tries to blast the alien craft out of the sky with its own guns and cannons, with little success. Nomad warns Major Strickland to try and get the ship as far away as possible, and goes on a kamikaze run at the spaceship with the missile. He succeeds, detonating the warhead and wiping out the fleet of spacecraft at the cost of his own life. The blast's shockwave badly damages the Constitution, but at least some of those aboard - including Helena - survive.

The film ends with the Constitution sending out an SOS in hopes of getting rescue for the survivors. As they transmit, they pick up another signal - a distress call from Prophet, who is still alive on the island.

Plot Summary: A reimagining of the classic musical!

Plot:

The film opens with a montage of hustling, bustling 1920s New York City, set to the song Runyonland. Three small-time gamblers, Nicely-Nicely Johnson, Benny Southstreet, and Rusty Charlie, discuss which horse will in the big race (“Fugue for Tinhorns”) on the street corner. They are interrupted by the band of the Save-a-Soul Mission, led by the virtuous Sergeant Sarah Brown, who call for sinners to “Follow the Fold” and repent.

The men then discuss their employer, Nathan Detroit, and his illegal floating crap game. Due to local policeman Lt. Brannigan’s strong-armed presence, Detroit has only one spot to hold the fame: the Biltmore garage. The garage’s owner, Joey Biltmore, requires a $1000 security deposit, which Nathan does not have (“The Oldest Established”). Nathan plans to win a $1000 bet against Sky Masterson, a gambler willing to bet on anything. Nathan’s seemingly foolproof bet is that Sky must take a woman of Nathan’s choice to dinner in Havana, Cuba. When Sky agrees, Nathan chooses Sarah Brown.

Sky visits Sarah at the mission, claiming he wants to be saved. After he impresses her with his knowledge of the bible, he offers Sarah a deal: he will bring the mission “one dozen genuine sinners” if she will accompany him to Havana the next night. Sarah turns him down, telling him he is not her type, and that she plans to fall in love with an upright man. Sky disagrees, saying he wants to be surprised by love (“I’ll Know”). Sky kisses Sarah, and she slaps him, forcing him to leave.

Later, Nathan watches his fiancee of 14 years, Adelaide, perform her nightclub act (“A Bushel and a Peck”). After her show, she asks him to go to city hall and get a marriage license, as she has many times before. She reveals to Nathan that she has been sending her mother letters for 12 years claiming that she and Nathan are married with 6 kids. Nathan tells her marriage isn’t possible while he is still running his crap game. He leaves a distraught Adelaide to consult a medical book, from which she learns that her chronic cold is a psychosomatic reaction to her frustration with Nathan not marrying her (“Adelaide’s Lament”).

The next day, Nicely and Benny watch as Sky continues to pursue Sarah, while Nathan tries to cheer up Adelaide (“Guys and Dolls”). General Cartwright, the leader of Save-a-Soul, visits the mission and tells Sarah she will have to close her branch of the mission unless they succeed in bringing sinners to the upcoming revival meeting. A desperate Sarah promises the General “one dozen genuine sinners,” thus accepting Sky’s deal.

The gamblers, including a notorious gangster from Chicago named Big Jule, wait on Nathan to secure the spot for the game, making Lt. Brannigan suspicious. To convince him of their innocence, they tell Brannigan they are gathering for Nathan's "surprise bachelor party". This satisfies Brannigan, and Nathan decides to finally elope. Adelaide goes home to pack, promising to meet him after her show the next afternoon. The Save-A-Soul Mission band passes by, and Nathan sees that Sarah is not in it; he realizes that he lost the bet and faints.

In a Havana nightclub, Sky buys a drink for himself and a "Cuban milkshake" for Sarah. She drinks quickly, not realizing the drink contains rum. Outside the club, a tipsy Sarah kisses Sky and proclaims that she is truly enjoying herself for the first time in her life ("If I Were a Bell"). Realizing she is falling for him, she declares that she wants to stay in Havana with Sky. Sky is surprised to find that he is beginning to care for Sarah, and he insists that they go back to the airport and return to New York. Back in New York, it is 4:00 a.m., and as Sky and Sarah (now sober) stand in the street outside the mission, Sky tells her that this is his favorite time of day, and that she is the only woman he's ever wanted to share it with ("My Time of Day"). They both spontaneously admit that they're in love ("I've Never Been in Love Before"). A siren sounds and gamblers run out of the mission, where Nathan has been holding the crap game. Sarah infers that Sky took her to Havana and pretended to be in love with her just so Nathan could use the mission for the game, rejecting his protests of innocence.

The next evening, Adelaide performs her act at the Hot Box ("Take Back Your Mink"). Nathan doesn't show up for the elopement because he's still running the crap game. She soon realizes that Nathan has stood her up again and turns to her book for comfort ("Adelaide's Second Lament").

At the mission, Sarah admits to Arvide, her grandfather, that she loves Sky but will never see him again because she believes he is responsible for the previous night's crap game. Arvide expresses his faith in Sky's inherent goodness and urges Sarah to follow her heart ("More I Cannot Wish You"). Sky enters tells Sarah he intends to keep his promise of one dozen genuine sinners for the revival. She rejects him and leaves, but Arvide encourages him.

Sky goes to where the crap game is being held: the sewer ("Crapshooters Dance"). Big Jule has lost a large amount of cash and insists on playing on credit. To change his luck he uses his own dice, which are blank, and proceeds to cheat Nathan out of all of his money. When Sky arrives, Big Jule isn't impressed, but Sky responds by punching him out. He then gives Nathan $1,000, saying that Nathan won the bet and implying that Sarah refused to go to Havana with him. Sky, determined to get the dozen sinners he promised Sarah, bets everyone at the game a thousand dollars against their souls. If he loses, every man gets a thousand dollars; if he wins, they must all attend the revival at the mission ("Luck Be a Lady"). He tosses the dice. The gamblers head towards the mission, and it is clear that Sky has won his bet. On his way there, Nathan runs into Adelaide and tells her that he has to attend the prayer meeting. Adelaide does not believe him. She asks herself why she keeps putting up with Nathan's lies, but he insists that he loves her ("Sue Me").

Sky and the gamblers arrive at the mission, much to Sarah's surprise. General Cartwright asks if anyone wishes to testify to their sins. Benny and Big Jule do, but another gambler named Harry The Horse lets slip that Sky only got them to the meeting because he won their souls in a dice game. The General is very pleased by this as it shows that good can come out of evil. In an attempt to blend in, Nicely invents a dream that encouraged him to repent, and the gamblers join in with revivalist fervor ("Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat"). Brannigan arrives and threatens to arrest everyone for the crap game in the Mission, but Sarah tells him that none of the gamblers were at the mission the previous night. After Brannigan leaves, Nathan confesses that they held the crap game in the mission. He also confesses to the bet he made with Sky about taking Sarah to Havana. He adds that he won the bet, to Sarah's shock, and she realizes that Sky wanted to protect her reputation and must genuinely care about her.

Sarah and Adelaide run into each other, and they commiserate and then resolve to marry their men anyway and reform them later ("Marry the Man Today"). Several weeks later, Nathan has opened a newsstand. Sky and Sarah have just been married, and Sky is playing the drum in the mission band. Adelaide and Nathan are about to get married at the mission, and Sky tells Nathan he'll lay eight to ten odds that he will be very happy. The title song is reprised ("Guys and Dolls" (Finale/Reprise)).

Plot Summary: A filmed version of the Broadway revival, recorded in May 2018.

Plot:

New York in 1912 in Harry Hope's downmarket Greenwich Village saloon and rooming house. The patrons, twelve men and three female prostitutes, are dead-end alcoholics who spend every possible moment seeking oblivion in each other's company and trying to con or wheedle free drinks from Harry and the bartenders. They drift without purpose from day to day, coming fully to life only during the semi-annual visits of the salesman Theodore Hickman, known to them as Hickey. When Hickey finishes a tour of his business territory, which is apparently a wide expanse of the East Coast, he typically turns up at the saloon and starts the party. As the play opens, the regulars are expecting Hickey to arrive in time for Harry's birthday party. The first act introduces the various characters as they bicker among themselves, showing just how drunk and delusional they are, all the while awaiting Hickey.

Joe Mott insists that he will soon re-open his casino. The English Cecil "The Captain" Lewis and South African Piet "The General" Wetjoen, who fought each other during the Boer War, are now good friends, and both insist that they'll soon return to their nations of origin. Harry Hope has not left the bar since his wife Bess's death 20 years ago. He promises that he'll walk around the block on his birthday, which is the next day. Pat McGloin says he is hoping to be reinstated into the police force, but is waiting for the right moment. Ed Mosher prides himself on his ability to give incorrect change, but he kept too much of his illegitimate profits to himself and was fired; he says he will get his job back someday. Hugo Kalmar is drunk and passed out for most of the play; when he is conscious, he pesters the other patrons to buy him a drink. Chuck Morello says that he will marry Cora tomorrow. Larry Slade is a former syndicalist-anarchist who looks pityingly on the rest. Don Parritt is a former anarchist who shows up later in the play to talk about his mother (Larry's ex-girlfriend) to Larry and specifically her arrest due to her involvement in the anarchist movement.

Finally Hickey arrives, and his behavior throws the other characters into turmoil. He insists, with as much charisma as ever, that he sees life clearly now as never before because he no longer drinks. Hickey wants the characters to cast away their delusions and accept that their heavy drinking and inaction means that their hopes will never be fulfilled. He takes on this task with a near-maniacal fervor. How he goes about his mission, how the other characters respond, and their efforts to find out what has wrought this change in Hickey take over four hours to resolve. During and after Harry's birthday party, most seem to have been somewhat affected by Hickey's ramblings. Larry pretends to be unaffected but, when Don reveals he was the informant responsible for the arrest of his own mother (Larry's former girlfriend), Larry rages at him; Willie decides McGloin's appeal will be his first case, and Rocky admits he is a pimp.

Most of the men Hickey talked with do go out into the world - dressed up, hopeful of turning their lives around — but they fail to make any progress. Eventually, they return and are jolted by a sudden revelation. Hickey, who had earlier told the other characters first that his wife had died and then that she was murdered, admits that he is the one who killed her. The police arrive, apparently called by Hickey himself, to arrest Hickey and Hickey justifies the murder in a dramatic monologue, saying that he did it out of love for her. He relates that Hickey's father was a preacher in the backwoods of Indiana. Evidently he was both charismatic and persuasive, and it was his inheriting these traits which led Hickey to become a salesman. An angry kid trapped in a small town, Hickey had no use for anyone but his sweetheart, Evelyn. Evelyn's family forbade her to associate with Hickey, but she ignored them. After Hickey left to become a salesman, he promised he would marry Evelyn as soon as he was able. He became a successful salesman, then sent for her and the two were very happy until Hickey became increasingly guilty following his wife's constant forgiveness of his infidelities and drinking. He then recounts how he murdered her to free her from the pain of his persistent philandering and drinking because she loved him too much to live apart from him. But, in retelling the murder, he laughs and tells Evelyn, "well, you know what you can do with that pipe dream now, don't you?" In realizing he said this, Hickey breaks down completely. He realizes that he went truly insane and that people need their empty dreams to keep existing. The others agree and decide to testify to his insanity during Hickey's trial despite Hickey's begging them to let him get the death sentence. He no longer wishes to live now that he has no illusions about life.

They return to their empty promises and pipe dreams except for Parritt, who runs to his room and jumps off the fire escape, unable to live with the knowledge of what he has done to his mother after discarding the last of his lies about his action and motivation for it. He first claims that he did it due to patriotism and then for money, but finally admits he did it because he hated his mother, who was so obsessed with her own freedom of action that she became self-centered and alternately ignored or dominated him. Despite witnessing the young man's fatal leap, and acknowledging the futility of his own situation ("by God, there's no hope! I'll never be a success...Life is too much for me!"), Larry fears death as much as life and is consequently left in limbo.

Spoiler

We open a day after High School Musical 3: Senior Year, (light CGI is used to age down the main characters along with Mrs. Darbus) and we see Troy, Gabriella, Chad, Taylor, Sharpay, Ryan and Kelsi having lunch together before Troy and Gabriella leave to California but bump into Mrs. Darbus, who suggests having a reunion 10 years from now. Sharpay approves of the idea as long as she helps be in charge, which the others agrees

A title card then reads 10 years later as we see Sharpay in her fabulous (no pun intended) pink lexus, driving down Albuquerque, now an actress. On the phone with her husband, Peyton Leverett, who is a screenwriter/director (from Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure, who took Sharpay’s last name (cause c’mon it’s Sharpay)) exclaiming she should’ve never been the main volunteer. The two have a simple conversation, with Sharpay saying she’ll be back in a few days and it’s just a bit of set up work, just take care of their daughter, and don’t burn the dinner this time. The two share a good laugh before saying goodbye to each other with pet names and all that. Sharpay pulls up in front of the new East High School, which has updated from the past ten years almost different besides a few things in tact. Sharpay then bumps into Mrs. Darbus, quickly reuniting (Sharpay comments she looks good, and Darbus says she’s done pilates.). Darbus then gives her a quick tour of the updated East High, pointing out the sports department has grown. Darbus then introduces Sharpay to Callem Daniels, the outspoken and literature loving English teacher who helps Darbus with some of the school productions, but slips out that the drama department has featured a lot of cutbacks and may go away. Sharpay is shocked and angered at this development and demands to speak to the principal. Darbus says they have a new principal now but Sharpay is undeterred and storms to the principal’s office with Callem and Darbus.

The principal, the macho sports loving John Bailey is watching a Spurs game via his laptop, and lets out a loud cheer when the Spurs score a basket. Sharpay, Callem and Mrs. Darbus burst in causing him to quickly put away his laptop. Bailey greets his colleagues as well as Sharpay, who he doesn’t know (Sharpay points out some Broadway shows she’s been in, as well as East High alumni). Sharpay asks Bailey why the drama department is being cut in funds. Bailey explains that they’ve been making more of a change to be a more sports-oriented school, naming Chad Danforth, who’s now a famous Spurs player, as their main success. Bailey then points out less people have been going to their productions as well but Callem retorts that more effort could be made. Bailey adds that, in his honest opinion, performing, singing, dancing and in his words all that jazz just is frankly for fools as well as sissies and people who follow that have no real skills. Sharpay is instantly offended by this, as she is a successful Broadway performer. Bailey then retorts she was lucky, Sharpay reports Chad was too. Bailey apologizes but says that times have changed and he sees no need for that stuff at the evolved East High and predicts that by next year, he’ll cut it. Bailey then kicks them out saying he has a meeting in a few minutes and has little time for a silly actor. Sharpay, Callem and Darbus sadly leave but just as they leave Bailey pulls out his laptop to continue watching the game.

Mrs. Darbus is saddened at the news, knowing she’ll be let go and that she’s more saddened at the disrespect for the arts. Sharpay and Callem refuse to give up and try to think of a way to keep the drama in tact when Sharpay gets a brilliant idea, explaining that if the alumni along with her friends are returning anyway they can make a concert to raise money and bring back the drama. Callem asks how and Sharpay says she’ll show him how. The two then perform “Bring Back The Drama” about their plan to revive the drama department and the important of drama in life, having an elaborate number through the school. After finishing the number, Sharpay says she has a few people to call. Unbeknownst to them, Bailey is watches via a monitor and although he doubts they’ll succeed, for the good of real talent and the students, he’ll stop them.

We then cut to New York as we see Ryan Evans and Kelsi Nielsen working on an upcoming musical that they’re having trouble with no one wanting it. Ryan then receives a call from Sharpay who is happy to hear from her brother. Sharpay asks how has the musical pitch been going, which Ryan reveals has been rough. Sharpay says she’s offered to help get it made multiple times and that Peyton would be glad to make it but Ryan and Kelsi insist on doing it themselves. Sharpay asks if either of them will be coming back for the reunion which they both decline due to how busy they are. Sharpay then tells the two about the new East High as well as the cutting of the drama department much to the shock of the two and that she plans on a big fundraising concert to revive it. Ryan is hesitant but Kelsi says they’ve got nothing else going on and that a week couldn’t hurt, causing Ryan to ultimately go along with it.

We then cut to a very busy Taylor McKessie running for a campaign for senator of Utah, preparing for debate. Her control freak campaign manager/right hand woman, Breonna Brooks warns her that her polls numbers are shrinking and that her rival, Donald Reinert may overtake her, and they need to win, coming up with many solutions for winning. However before they can proceed, Taylor gets a call. Taylor picks up the phone and gets the message from Sharpay, but she declines for the reunion/concert due to how busy her campaign is. Breonna asks Taylor about the call, which Taylor reveals the predicament to her. Breonna’s eyes light up, gaining an idea that it can be good publicity for her, and it could excel to greater heights if Chad shows up. Taylor is unsure due to how she hasn’t talk to or been with Chad in while, not to mention, it feels unfair to make into a publicity stunt. Breonna convinces Taylor to join by singing “Bop To The Top”. Taylor then calls back Sharpay and reveals she’s coming.

We then cut to Chad Danforth and the rest of his Spurs teammates practicing against Uncle Drew. Uncle Drew manages to overtake them easily. Chad tells the team they need to work harder if they want to win. Chad then gets a call from Sharpay, who asks if he’s coming back for the reunion and explaining the situation to him. Chad politely declines due to how busy he is and that music/drama was in his past, and that he needs to focus on his future. Lastly we then cut to Troy Bolton in a very boring office job that he hates, revealing that since Gabriella is still in Law School, he is providing for them. His boss, Harvey, gives him a laundry list of mundane tasks and that if he wants the promotion, he’ll finish them by next week. Bored, Troy, who resides in California, goes through it and starts making beats with his office material while working, which escalates into a song about his mundane job, which some of his coworkers join in “No Office Space”, which Harvey catches him, right after the ending asking to meet him in the office. Harvey says it’s the fifth disruption from Troy this month, but offers him some a paid week off to sort stuff out, feeling that Troy is under a lot of stress. Troy then goes home to Gabriella, who is pregnant. Troy reveals he got a paid week off due to stress, Gabriella understands and thanks Troy for doing his best, knowing he doesn’t like his job. The two share a quick kiss and Gabriella reveals she got a call from Sharpay about the reunion concert. Gabriella says since he has the week off and she was going to help her stepfather move in his house in Albuquerque anyway, they should hit up the reunion. Troy is unsure, insecure he hasn’t accomplished much in life compared to everyone else. Gabriella consoles him that it doesn’t make him any lesser or anyone else will, reminding him that he was friends with everyone in high school, doubting everyone made it as big. We then see the TV on in the background as we see Zeke Baylor’s cooking show on as he insults one of his chef and is about to curse him off not before Gabriella turns it off. Troy agrees to go to help her stepfather but is unsure about the concert. The two then prepare for their flight and leave.

Later in the day, we then cut to Sharpay and Callem meeting up with Ryan at the school. Ryan explains that Kelsi is checking into their hotel as well as trying to get somethings ready for the reunion concert to help with Mrs. Darbus. Sharpay then introduces Ryan to Callem, who both have sort of an attraction to one another. Callem explains that he and Sharpay are working on musical numbers for the event, and Ryan offers to help as well. Sharpay is interrupted by a call and has to take it, saying she’ll be right back, leaving Ryan and Callem alone. The two start working a song together and sparks fly, as the two realize they have a lot in common. Sharpay returns from the call explaining her husband had problems working the oven, laughing a bit. Principal Bailey then comes in, explaining that “unfortunately” they can’t have the concert here, feigning sympathy saying that it needs approval by the principal and that he can’t do anything else once his mind is made up. Sharpay then says they can have it at her parents’ ranch, making it out of Bailey’s jurisdiction. Bailey then says if it’s outside of school, they can’t practice in here but Taylor and Breonna arrive early, with Breonna, knowing quite a bit about law, pointing out it’s a school fundraiser meaning that although they can’t perform in the school, they may still practice. Callem also points out that the majority of his English students are helping as well as part of an assignment. Bailey reluctantly lets them practice but promises it won’t be easy for them and he will find a way to stop them. Bailey then gets hit by a football, and a student who threw it apologizes saying that he and a friend were practicing. Bailey excuses himself and try to deal with the students, threatening detention.

Taylor asks where’s the rest of the gang. Sharpay explains that Gabriella is coming but she doesn’t know about Troy and Chad declined. Breonna pulls Taylor annoyed, that Chad is missing, saying they came here for nothing. Taylor says they can still help but Breonna reminds her that they need Chad otherwise the campaign is kaput but Taylor wants to help her friends. Breonna, undeterred, says that she understands and they’ll do both, she just needs her phone. Meanwhile, Chad is still practicing with his team and gets a call from what he thinks is Taylor, freezing as their relationship went south but despite his nervousness, picks up the phone. It is revealed that Breonna called Chad to convince to help the school and Taylor but Chad refuses until Breonna calls him out for his selfishness and that is why Taylor left him. Infuriated, Chad hangs up and plays a one-on-one game with Uncle Drew. Uncle Drew sees his anger, advises Chad to go to the school, noting he still has time as the game isn’t until two weeks later. Chad calls back but this time it’s Taylor who pick up the phone, and after some awkwardness he confirms he’s coming back to help, much to the delight of everyone. Word of this spreads throughout school even to Bailey who’s excited to meet Chad.

We then go later into the day as Troy and Gabriella arrive back to Albuquerque to see Carlos Ashmen-Montez, Gabriella’s dorky but loveable stepfather in a Volkswagen Beetle arrives to pick them up. The three then head to Gabriella’s old house to move. The atmosphere has an abandoned yet homey feel to it. Troy comments there’s not a lot of stuff to move, remembering when his parents moved to Florida they literally had to move everything. Carlos then laughs it off saying he hasn’t seen everything and shows him the basement which is humorously stuffed to the top, much to the shock of Troy and Gabriella. Carlos says he’s been slacking on packing and the three get to work making a fun rap-like song about their struggles with both packing and life “Slacking on Packing”. (The song uses a lot of alliteration and we get to hear Lin Manuel rapping, we also learn from a verse about Troy’s fear of being a father which he shrugs off.) After finishing half of it at night, Carlos suggests they get some dinner or something. The three head out for dinner at a nice restaurant and talk about the reunion which Carlos tries to convince Troy to go to even though he feels insecure, claiming that one shouldn’t be insecure and enables you in life, somewhat inspiring Troy. Sharpay is eating in the corner on the phone with her husband when she suddenly sees Troy and Gabriella and then runs up to them and asks them about the concert. Gabriella agrees to go but Troy is still hesitant, not necessarily trusting Sharpay. Carlos says he’ll go and Sharpay is confused who Carlos is, and Gabriella explains that’s her stepdad, and believe or not as dorky as he is, he’s a great freestyler - let’s not call him a rapper. Sharpay considers it and agrees if Troy comes too. Gabriella and Carlos give Troy puppy-dog-eyes and he agrees, reluctantly after they finish help packing.

The next morning, Troy wakes up early and smiles at a still sleeping Gabriella. Troy then goes to check his email to realize the crap ton of work his boss has given, and feels extremely pressured remembering some bills he needs to pay as well after a few calls. Troy takes a walk by himself to destress himself, singing “Scream”. Gabriella, having gone after Troy, comforts him about his stress knowing they’ll pull through. The two finish up packing while Carlos is still sleeping but a lot is still on Troy’s mind. Gabriella then telling him to look forward with the two of them singing a duet called “Dreaming of Tomorrow” (about looking to the future and even though one can fail, they can still get back up and find a new way). The two then lean in for kiss only for Carlos to interrupt their tender moment, asking what they want for breakfast. Troy and Gabriella after breakfast eat and leave.

We open with Chad in his Spurs jersey with the number 08 on it, walking inside the new East High School, not before he bumps into Principal Bailey, who is so excited although he is dressed professionally, he is rocking a Spurs SnapBack. Chad tries to explain what he’s here for but Bailey offers him a tour of the changed school. Chad reluctantly agrees due to how nice Bailey is. Bailey shows him the updated baseball and football fields as well as the gym court in swimming pools along with some other stuff (including to Chad’s surprise, a delicious school lunch) but Chad asks about the drama department, having not seen it as Bailey explains that singing and dancing isn’t real talent unlike what Chad has, slipping that he’ll cut the drama section soon to focus on raw physical talent. Chad explains he is here for the reunion concert, Sharpay is putting together, much to Bailey’s disdain. Bailey pulls some slight shade at Chad and points out that Chad is arguably the biggest success at East High and the only reason the drama department was relevant was because of him. Bailey then comments if there’s one thing he’s learned from both his father and real life, that dancing is for losers. Chad asked if has Bailey ever danced or even sung a song, not even in like the musical sense but just like driving or in a shower. Bailey replies not a chance. Chad then says he wants to show Bailey something if that’s okay, challenging him to a batting challenge at the school’s batting cage. As the baseball machine spits out baseballs, making a beat in the process, Chad starts singing “I Don’t Dance” which Bailey starts to get sweeped up in the music, also singing and dancing, unknownst to even himself, he’s very good at it, even using a baseball bat as a cane. The music number continues with the whole school drawn to it with tons of students and staff watching, which leads to a dance off between Chad and Bailey, which a student films via a cellphone. The number then ends with the two stopping to catch a breath as a crowd of students watch.

Chad: “See I told, you were wrong.”
Bailey: “Look I told you, I don’t sing and I don’t dance.”
Chad (with a smirk): “Well you just did.”

Bailey quickly realizes what he’s done with a shocked and angered look on his face as Chad walks away into the auditorium. Chad is happily greeted by everyone as the gang's all there and finally begin practices. Sharpay then gets the gang ready for preparations for the concert and has an idea for a duet between Chad and Taylor, both of whom are unsure due to their past. Breonna is also unsure due to it could interfere with the campaign but it’d also be great publicity for them and insists on it. Sharpay seeing both are uncomfortable offers to take Taylor’s role. Kelsi announces with the calculations of everything, in order to raise funds for the drama department and break even, they must make $1,000,000 dollars. Sharpay is undeterred, saying it’ll be easy. Sharpay asks Troy and Chad to go get supplies and the rest prepares. Troy and Chad drive off to a supply store to stock up. Ryan and Callem then help Callem’s students with their acts. The two have a lot of cute moments together while helping the students with their acts. Gabriella and Taylor catch up as old times as Mrs. Darbus, Kelsi and a reluctant Breonna help set up. Sharpay says they could do better though, and goes a bit diva on them singing “Fabulous”. As the song ends, Bailey comes back in but this time with a group of students studying for the ACT. Sharpay asks what is this about. Bailey says they need to practice somewhere else as he has recently scheduled the auditorium the whole week with different events so they must practice elsewhere. Sharpay is annoyed pointing out that he knew they were practicing there but Bailey shrugs it off, saying he’s in charge so waltz out of there. Mrs. Darbus asks if there’s anywhere else they can go, and Bailey says the parking lot is always open. The gang reluctantly leaves the auditorium to practice in the parking lot. Meanwhile, Troy and Chad go to get the various supplies they need and although Chad is a bit serious at first, the two pal around just like old times having fun. As soon as they return they see everyone practicing in the parking lot. Sharpay reveals what happens, Chad asks can’t they go to the country club but Sharpay reveals it’s way too busy at the time. Troy undeterred reminds everyone not to give up and reminds them what they’re fighting for. Troy begins to sing “What We’re Fighting For” which everyone in the main cast (baring Carlos) joins in on, even Bailey gets a few verses doing his own thing scheming in his office. As the song ends, the school bell rings as students swarm out to leave to go home. As everyone else packs up, Callem asks Ryan, nervously if he wants to meet for coffee tomorrow, which he happily agrees to but attempts to play it off cool.

Back at the hotel, Kelsi, in a good natured manner, teases Ryan about his relationship with Callem. Ryan vigorously denies it, but Kelsi assures him, that was just kidding and even if it was true, nothing is wrong it. Ryan is still defensive, not so subtlety hinting at in his childhood he was bullied for being effeminate and has always felt that way, but Kelsi tells him he should not hide who is. Ryan and Kelsi sing “Who Am I?” where Ryan is confused about his sexuality while  simultaneously denying it and is afraid while Kelsi plays a supportive role. As the song ends, Ryan bolts out and takes a walk. Once he is sure he’s alone, he begins to cry but Kelsi finds him and comforts him, saying she gets how he feels, and reminding him that he shouldn’t care what other think and he should be happy with himself first and foremost. Ryan is filled with confidence and thanks Kelsi.

We then cut to the next day as everyone (but Ryan and Callem) is preparing for their roles but have arrived at the school earlier before the students. Sharpay asks Kelsi where’s Ryan and Callem who the latter reveals the two of them are on a date. Sharpay is happy for the both of them, and that they’ll be back later. Troy and Chad play a quick game of basketball where Chad reveals he still has feelings for Taylor which Troy encourages. However Gabriella pulls them back reminding them of practice. Troy and Gabriella debate on which song they want to sing before settling on, What I’ve Been Looking For. Meanwhile, Chad and Taylor prepare for their duet, after some initial awkwardness, the two start to reconnect both noting he stress in their new lives (Chad wanting to make the Spurs the best but lacking personal time and Taylor also busy with her governor duties and that Breonna barely allows her free time which Chad points out is unfair even if she’s running for office, pointing out her manipulative behavior). The two then get off that subject Breonna slips off bored by all of this to see what’s going on in the auditorium, to find out that, early polls are being done at the school, finding out Donald Reinert  is in the lead.

Meanwhile, Ryan and Callem are on their coffee date and things are going extremely well. The two’s chemistry is strong and the two go off into song “What We Could Be”, an endearing song about their future plans both in life and aspirations (we learn about Callem’s desire of being a professor and passion for Shakespeare and other classy literature.). The two gaze at each other’s eyes with passion and share a kiss. Back at the auditorium, Breonna rushes back to Chad and Taylor to get the photo of the two for the campaign but Taylor says she wants a break from it. Breonna tells her, according to polls, Reinert is in the lead by 10 points showing a new hitpiece ad on Taylor where Reinert points out all he’s done the last week while Taylor has been busy with a concert, and asks will a concert be more worth-it than New Mexico. Taylor is taken aback by the news but asks how Reinert even knew about the concert. Breonna assured her it doesn’t matter and they should just get the publicity picture with Chad until Chad quickly pieces together Breonna sabotaged her, which she admits but says she did it for them, and that Taylor has worked to hard to fail and was trying to help. Taylor, hurt by Breonna’s betrayal fires her from the campaign tired of her micromanaging ways.

Angered that she has failed, Breonna goes to meet with Bailey in his office having a proposition to stop the musical as it both benefits them, through a song “Landslide” as the two of them plot. Breonna jokes for someone who’s against music, he sure does get passionate when you’re singing. Bailey then shoots a manly glare in attempt to silence her. Bailey then remembers the student who filmed himself and Chad, and tells the student to meet him in his office. Bailey then forces him to leak the video of Chad and Bailey’s sing/dance battle who agrees but under the circumstance that he gets a free grade raise in one of his classes. Later that night, Chad and Taylor then continue to practice later singing their rough version of “Before Our Dreams Come True” and share a kiss but Chad pulls back, apologizing for being a bit too forward which Taylor assures him is okay. The two awkwardly promise to see each other tomorrow.

During the last day of practice before the concert, everyone is working on their craft. Sharpay, Kelsi and Mrs. Darbus are doing a final checklist, as Ryan and Callem practice for their songs. Taylor is helping Troy and Gabriella with their act, but Sharpay asks where’s Chad, which Troy reveals he’s running late. Carlos also comes in to the surprise of everyone trying to humorously find his way into the act much to Sharpay’s chagrin. However, Gabriella is not feeling too well. Without hesitation, Troy and Carlos whisk her away back home, just to make sure she’s all right, promising to try to make it tonight. Chad wakes up from his hotel in a rush realizing he’s late, rushing to the school but not before stopping to get some flowers. However on his way, he listens to the radio on a basketball forum talking about the leaked video of Chad’s singing and dancing, causing him to get flamed by callers. Chad is astonished that it got out, only to get a text from Breonna telling him to meet up with her and Bailey. Angered, assuming they’re behind it rushes to speak with them. Bailey confirms they leaked it but manages to talk Chad out of the musical, pointing out the damage the music is doing to his career. Breonna then points out that Taylor also may not want him back anyways, revealing it was her idea to call him not Taylor, while pointing out his other insecurities andalso pointing out Taylor’s dreams for governor and he shouldn’t interfere with that since he got his dreams. Chad sadly agrees, gently tossing away the flowers, heading back to the parking lot, revealing he’s dropped out of the concert, blaming the leak. Taylor is confused and the two get into an argument which ends Taylor calls him just as selfish as Breonna, not wanting to see him again. Chad apologizes to everyone before leaving and drives off. Taylor despite Chad leaving plans on being in the show still. Ryan asks Sharpay what’ll they do know but Sharpay says the show must go on leading to a reprise of “What We’re Fighting For” once again from the perspectives of the main cast but much darker and melancholy.

Troy, Gabriella and Carlos who are back home after the scare even though Gabriella assures she’s fine and told Sharpay they’re still game for the concert, but Troy then gets a text from Sharpay want happened with Chad and Taylor. Troy wants to go help but is unsure not before Gabriella assures him she’ll be fine. Troy then rushed back to the school to see Chad throwing baskets by himself at the East High basketball court. Troy tries to convince Chad to go. Chad agrees to go but he’s still afraid to face Taylor, but Troy relates with his issues but reminds him of the fearless times when they were younger, as the two sing a duet “The Boys are Back”, to help boost their spirits as they play basketball. Chad says he’s ready to go as the two do a brotherly complicated handshake. We then cut to Gabriella back at home as Carlos gets ready for the concert even though Gabriella is unsure Sharpay has a role for him. Gabriella takes some time to get ready putting on her dress thinking about her mother, revealing she passed away. Gabriella wonders if she’s doing a as great job as her mother, and misses her, wanting both her advice and seeing her again, singing “Missing You”. Carlos manages to here and consoles Gabriella as he also misses his wife but assures her that not only is she doing a great job in general in life but her mother would be proud and the two of them sing “Start of Something New” about the baby in Gabriella’s womb. The two then get ready to drive the country club to go to the concert.

We then cut to the concert at Sharpay’s parents country club. Gabriella asks Troy if he’s on his way which Troy confirms as he is with Chad. We then see the audience is filled with people as Mrs. Darbus does tickets. Both Breonna and Bailey go to the concert to see their master plan and the trainwreck in action. We then see a huge amount of people both of alumni of East High (celebrity chef Zeke Baylor, rapper PAL (aka Martha Cox, pop and lock girl), Jason Cross, who own a small series of gyms across the country, and Tiara Gold who became a businesswoman). A dad (Christian Bale) of one of the students in the concert is a huge theatrical arts fan and is the most hyped. Peyton and he and Sharpay’s 3 year old daughter Amy show up as well. Some of Callem’s students do warm up acts in the meantime as intermission showing some of their own talents (one teen has an amazing opera voice), raising small funds in the process. Sharpay goes on first and sings “A Night to Remember” which the audience enjoys. Sharpay asks Ryan and Callem if they’re ready who both holding hands, say obviously. Ryan and Callem then go onstage to perform “You Are The Music In Me” as a couple which the audience loves as the two take a bow. We then see Kelsi and Taylor humorously struggling with the amount of phone calls and donations. Troy returns with Chad as they make it back to the concert, Sharpay is glad to see both of them and Troy remembers he and Gabriella are next. Chad is still nervous on how he messed up but Troy says it’s now or never, wishing his best friend luck. Troy and Gabriella go on to perform “What I’ve Been Looking For” which the audience also loves. Meanwhile, Chad attempts to apologize to Taylor backstage, admitting he doesn’t care about his popularity anymore and does regret that their relationship went south, and proves to her he’s changed causing Taylor accepts his apology but still refuses to sing, saying it’s not in her place as she is helping Kelsi anyway. Sharpay and Chad prepare to do the duet and sing a verse “Before Our Dreams Came True”, the romantic duet meant for Chad and Taylor until gaining an idea, Sharpay pulls Taylor to sing as well, saying the song wasn’t meant her but rather a couple and that she’ll help Kelsi. Taylor and Chad then perform the duet together that tears the house down as the audience roars as the two share a kiss.

Kelsi runs on the stage to announce they’re about $10,000 away from raising enough cash for the drama department. Breonna apologizes for her behavior, realizing that she’s been selfish in her own goals and steps down as Taylor’s advisor out of respect. Taylor accepts her apology in return. Surprisingly, Bailey is moved by this but is very unsure of continuing, revealing that he wanted to become a singer/actor but his family along with their beliefs made it impossible, so he buried it deep down, focused only on physical talent. The others encourage he to let the music out of him and follow his heart. Bailey agrees to revive the drama department regardless as the crowd cheers (especially the drama Dad, who’s humorously the loudest). Bailey then asks to take the stage and begins to sing a song in support of the alumni, which Carlos and Breonna join in on “Wildcat Pride”, which receives a large amount of applause as well. Kelsi then announces not only do they have enough money but they have an extra $10,000 as well which everyone celebrates for. Troy then says although they’re not taking more donations and have enough cash, he has one more song in him, singing about a new start for everyone has happened, which everyone even the old alumni and Drama Dad joins in on “New Beginnings” (we get to see a musical style of everyone, Martha and Carlos exchange in a little rap battle during the middle). As the song ends, giant red curtains close over the scene ending the movie.

Mid Credit Scene (which plays during the credits): We see the whole main cast along with Drama Dad sing “We’re All In This Together/All for One/High School Musical” and dance over the entire end credits, ala Mamma Mia!.

Post Credit Scene: David Henrie runs on scene asking if he’s too late for his cameo, only to his surprise see the theater is empty. Henrie sighs, saying he knew he shouldn’t have been in Johnny Test.

Spoiler

The movie opens by replaying the final scene of the smash-hit Tattoo3d T33nag3 Ali3n Fight3rs from B3v3rly Hills. Our heroes, the Galactic Sentinels - cheerleader Laurie (Bailee Madison) with the power of the constellation Scorpius, supernerd Swinton (Dante Brown) with the power of Corvus, preppy trust fund idiot Gordon (Dakota Goyo) with the power of Taurus, and blatantly insane dumb blonde Drew (Kiernan Shipka) with the power of Centaurus - are in a spaceship flying away from the planet Moleculon, home of the evil Emperor Gorganus (Wesley Snipes). The planet explodes, completely destroyed, millions or even billions of lives coming to an abrupt end. The teens cheer and high-five. But unknown to them, Gorganus has escaped, zooming away from the planet in the opposite direction on his own ship along with his annoying pet, the birdlike alien Lechner (voice of Josh Gad). He swears revenge and sets a course for Earth.

The opening titles and credits play out over a series of clips from the first three movies, beginning with the original, then the second, and then from Tattoo3d T33nag3 Ali3n Fight3rs from B3v3rly Hills - except the clip from the third film is a bootleg camera recording from the drive-in theatre where the characters of Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad watched it, and after a second or so of out-of-focus footage visible on the screen, the view is completely obscured by Ms. Starkey (Melissa McCarthy in a cameo) pulling up in front of the bootlegger on her motorcycle to loudly lecture them on the horrible consequences movie piracy has on the hard-working people in Hollywood.

After the title sequence, we catch up with our heroes in Nimbar's lair. It looks completely different than it did in the first two films. The titular teens have switched back to their normal human forms, and are now watching a transmission on a holo-screen from their ally and fellow Sentinel, Bob Bob. The transmission is very fuzzy and distorted, in an unsuccessful attempt to hide the fact Bob Bob is played by a lanky stand-in wearing a cheap rubber Jason Statham mask. He explains that after his the horrible injuries he received in the previous film, he has decided to give up his Sentinel powers and start a new life on another planet. The teens bid him a fond farewell, and Nimbar says that with him out of the movie they can finally afford to upgrade the main Sentinels' powers. Swinton asks what he means and Nimbar responds with some bullshit about cosmic power balances and chakras and green tea. He rushes them off, warning them to keep their eyes peeled for signs of trouble since sensors indicate Gorganus is still alive.

By now the four teens are approaching their high school graduation. Laurie, ever the busybody, is preparing her valedictorian graduation speech, heading the yearbook committee, and training the cheer squad in a new routine she proudly explains is banned in 37 countries. Swinton is excited to learn that, thanks to his superior intellect, he has pre-emptively been accepted to and received several degrees from prestigious universities and graduated directly from high school into crippling student loan debt. Gordon is looking forward to his summer job running his mother's re-election campaign for mayor, proud to uphold his family's legacy of using exorbitant wealth to undermine the democratic process. Drew has flunked out of high school but regularly forgets this and shows up anyway.

As the teens go about their last day of classes before graduation, a movie is shooting in nearby Hollywood. The set of the sci-fi epic The Harvester Conflicts is thrown into chaos when Emperor Gorganus' actual spaceship crashes into the studio, crushing a model spaceship and sending a group of actors in bizarrely sexy insect costumes running. Gorganus goes on a rampage, blasting the cast and crew, demolishing the set and props as the cinematographer keeps rolling, declaring this to be "way better than that space opera bullshit."

The next morning, the press reports that an entire major Hollywood studio has been taken over by what appears to be a hostile space alien. However, because he has not yet been accused of sexual misconduct, the industry has decided to give his new regime a chance and see how their upcoming slate of intergalactic propaganda films is received at Cannes. Nimbar, watching Good Morning America in his lair, realizes Gorganus has arrived and hastily summons the teens. They're shocked to learn Gorganus made it to Earth without Nimbar noticing, but he explains that his sensors and tracking systems don't work in Hollywood due to copyright restrictions. After all, he says, movie piracy is the real cosmic evil.

Nimbar portals the teens to the movie studio, however, since his tracking doesn't work in Hollywood he can't be sure they'll all wind up in the right place. Indeed, they are separated - Swinton, Laurie, and Drew all land in the same place, but Gordon's portal winds up taking him to an entirely different studio. The three teens who've remained together wonder aloud where he is, hoping he's not in any danger. We cut to Gordon, who's in what appears to be a very expensive golden penthouse suite. He turns to find an enormous swimming pool occupied by a (carefully-framed) stark naked young man who bears more than a passing resemblance to Colton Haynes.

"Hey," the actor says seductively, swimming over to the pool's edge. "You must be the guy playing Pyler. Nice to meet you. But why do you have clothes on? Didn't you look at the call sheets? We're not shooting anything with clothes until three weeks from now."

Gordon immediately realizes he's at the wrong studio, but he definitely does not seem to mind.

Meanwhile, Swinton, Laurie, and Drew decide to split up to cover more ground as they search their studio for Gorganus. Swinton wanders onto a colorful sci-fi set and is so transfixed by all the blinking lights, lion emblems, and alien-looking tech props that he fails to notice when a man in a black-and-white space uniform walks across the set just behind him, his face blurred and pixellated, partially covered by hovering text reading "SPOILERS." His distinctive military haircut with an odd white poof at the front remains clearly visible.

Laurie finds herself on a set designed to look like a prehistoric jungle. An entire film crew is assembled, ready to shoot, but a producer arrives with bad news. "Sorry guys, it looks like we've gotta put this off for another year." The crew members groan and shake their heads, the director knocking over an expensive-looking camera angrily as he storms off the set, glaring accusingly at the producer. "Hey now," the producer says, attempting to defend himself, "How were we supposed to know dinosaurs would still be extinct THIS year, too?"

Drew, by chance, actually finds her way to the crash site of Gorganus' ship. She recognizes the massive alien vessel immediately and storms into the control room. Inside, she finds not only Emperor Gorganus, but her aunt as well (Tina Fey)! This absolutely shocks her, considering the climactic events from the previous movie!

"Auntie," she exclaims in disbelieving shock, "With Gorganus!? But - you died on Moleculon trying to recover my parents' bones from the space dumpster they fell into all those years ago!"

"No, no," the woman replies with a reassuring smile. "This is a movie studio. We're just actors! We're making a movie about your adventures with the Galactic Sentinels. I'm Tina Fey."

"Then - you mean -"

"Yes honey, don't worry! Your aunt is still a dead corpse floating aimlessly through the cold, unforgiving vacuum of space."

Drew lets out a deep, relieved sigh. "Thanks. That makes me feel a lot better." She chuckles at her own foolishness for assuming any of this was real. "Anyway, good luck with your awful movie. I've gotta go find the others and tell them Gorganus isn't here!"

The group reconvenes in Nimbar's lair, only for them all to report no success in finding the evil alien overlord. Distraught at the news, Nimbar gravely informs the teens it is time for him to enact his new contingency plan. It is time to activate the incredible cosmic power of the Leo constellation. In a flash of blinding light, an impressive suit of battle armor materializes in the center of the lair. It looks like some sort of ancient holy knight's shimmering golden Iron Man outfit, with a crystal lion's mane around the feline helmet, the stylized face of the predator engraved in a mighty, permanent roar.

"So this is some kind of new power up mode!?" Swinton asks excitedly.

"What? No," Nimbar clarifies. "You can't all be lions. That would just be stupid."

"Well then who gets the new suit?" Laurie asks.

"Um, it's gold," Gordon snarks. "Obviously it's for me."

"As the most intelligent member of the group," Swinton retorts, "I think I should be entrusted with-"

"All of you shut the hell up," Nimbar shouts. "None of you are going to be Leo. Our focus groups have informed me that they hate all of you."

"That's fair," Drew admits.

"Luckily, I've found a promising new recruit to wield this mighty new power."

"Where did you find someone on such short notice?" Swinton asks.

"I believe you humans call it Face-Look."

"Facebook?"

"No, it's not a book," Nimbar insists. "It's a website."

"Well, when do we get to meet them?" Laurie asks.

"You already have," answers a heavily-distorted, alien sounding voice coming from within the armor itself. The newest Sentinel, Leo, springs to life, revealing himself to already be there in person, wearing the expensive-looking suit.

"Leo has asked that I keep his identity a secret even from you, given that your identities have already been compromised."

"It's not like that was our fault," Gordon insists. "It was a riveting and pulse-pounding series of twists and turns and double-crosses that surely would be the unforgettable highlight of any telling of the story!"

"We are all familiar with what happened, Gordon," Nimbar says. "But we must be more careful now. Leo will not communicate with you outside of his Sentinel form. You will see him only in battle and during a training montage I have planned to help you learn to work together as a team."

Meanwhile, back at the conquered film studio, Gorganus and Drew's aunt, who is not in fact Tina Fey, discuss their close call. Drew's aunt is concerned that all they've worked for is at risk, but Gorganus insists that everything will work out fine. All of his monstrous alien warriors were destroyed along with his home planet, but he has a contingency plan already in effect. "The pathetic Galactic Sentinels will be destroyed from within! It's my most cunning, insidious, sinisterly subtle plan of all time!"

Cut back to Nimbar's lair, where our heroes are waiting around for Nimbar to finish setting up their training montage. We can see on his holo-viewer that Nimbar is scrolling indecisively through his Spotify playlists looking for an appropriate soundtrack. Meanwhile, as the four teens have some insignificant discussion, Leo can be seen reading a book entitled How to Make Enemies and Enslave People. Finally, Nimbar settles on what he considers a decent track and has Gordon, Swinton, Drew, and Laurie transform into their Sentinel forms.

Along with Leo, the five Sentinels are trans-portaled to the open desert to train, as per usual, growing to gigantic proportions and towering over the various rock formations. Nimbar informs the Sentinels that Leo will be training them in basic melee combat techniques, "because lord knows you brats need it." With that, a hip-hop track from Milli Vanilli lipsynchers Rob & Fab's 1993 self-titled, self-sung album begins to blare through the desert, the bass visibly shaking the rocky pillars and outcroppings.

As the "training" proceeds, it quickly becomes clear that Leo is actually just fighting the other Sentinels and actually trying to kill them. Thankfully, despite Nimbar's claim that he was an expert warrior, he's only marginally more competent than any of the others. Still, the superior powers the the Leo constellation and battle suit are enough to give him an edge as he blasts the teens with magic fireballs and summons a burning energy sword to flail around at them. Drew is the only hero to remain unscathed, as her absent-minded dancing to the music allows her to accidentally dodge all of Leo's attacks.

Eventually the other three teens get Drew's attention long enough to come together and form Knightron, the single-bodied, four-minded galactic knight, whose low-budget armor looks even shoddier in comparison to Leo's spiffy new action-figure-promoting suit. There is a mighty clash of armored titans, the two exchanging energy blasts and sword strikes. Finally, though, Knightron manages to blast Leo's helmet to pieces, finally revealing his true face -

"LECHNER!?"

Indeed! It's Gorganus' insufferably-annoying pet space bird, finally explaining why he has been absent since the prologue! He cackles evilly, rapidly open and closing his huge beak which absolutely could not have fit in that helmet.

"That's right, losers! It's finally my time to shine!"

"How are you wearing a human-shaped power suit?" Knightron asks in its deep, echoing voice.

"Let's just say that I'm quite uncomfortable. But not nearly as uncomfortable as you will be when I KILL YOU!"

The empowered space-squawker once again loses himself in maniacal cackling, and, with his protective helmet gone, Knightron simply fires a laser blast at his head which explodes in a poof of giant scorched feathers. Knightron poses triumphantly as the headless Leo collapses down to the ground - only to vanish in a burst of dark energy! We hear the four heroes' thoughts conversing inside of Knightron's head. Most of them are concerned about what the body's disappearance could mean, but Drew remarks she suddenly has a craving for KFC.

As the heroes are trans-portaled back to Nimbar's lair, we cut to Gorganus in his control room. Despite Lechner's death, the evil emperor is celebrating! For one thing, he know longer has to hear the bird's annoying voice. For another, he explains out loud to Drew's aunt, who is sitting beside him, in the moment Lechner was killed, the Leo powers became unbound - and he was able to claim them for himself! He's now dedicating all of his ship's energy resources to converting the powers into a form he can use. "Now it is only a matter of time before I destroy the Sentinels and claim this planet as my own!"

To make this abundantly clear, he presses a button on the ship's control panel and a digital countdown timer pops up tracking the progress of the power conversion. The on-screen readout is labeled "Time Remaining Until Climax." Drew's aunt is thrilled at the news of his impending victory, saying she loves a man with power and influence. The pair gaze longingly into each other's eyes as a romantic ballad begins to play on the soundtrack.

We kill a couple minutes of screentime with a montage of Gorganus and Drew's aunt going on a date in Los Angeles, visiting the La Brea Tar Pits, the Walk of Fame, the Santa Monica Pier, and having dinner on the outdoor patio of a fancy French restaurant. Gorganus remains in his full space armor the entire time, which no one seems to notice until the conclusion of the montage, when he laser-blasts their waiter for getting his date's order wrong. The sequences ends on a shot of the two lovebirds slow dancing to the chorus of the song - which no one else in the scene can apparently hear, though it's hard to tell since they're all running and screaming - their feet stirring up the black ashes that used to be their waiter's body.

Back in Nimbar's lair, the teens ask their intergalactic mentor how it is that he could have hired Lechner to be Leo. "My apologies. It appears I was, as you humans say, 'dogfished.' His online profile led me to believe he was David Henrie."

"Oooooooooooh," the teens all say in unison, nodding with understanding and sympathy.

"In any case," Nimbar continues, "I believe Emperor Gorganus has stolen the powers of Leo for himself. Even with a team of experienced, dedicated Sentinels to battle him, this could be catastrophic. And unfortunately, we only have you fuck-ups."

"And when we went looking for him, we couldn't find his base anywhere in Hollywood," Swinton says.

"Thank you for reminding us of this important fact, Swinton. It is good to know your superior intellect is being used to remind us all what literally just happened this morning," Nimbar replies sarcastically.

"Hey, I have an idea!" Drew chimes in. "Maybe the actor playing Gorganus knows where Gorganus is!"

"...what," Laurie flatly responds.

"Yeah! See, I didn't find Gorganus at the studio, but I DID find a guy playing him on a movie set! He was there with Tina Fey, who's playing my aunt!"

"...and did you actually see who this was and confirm he's an actor and not, in fact, an evil alien warlord?" asks Swinton.

"Well, he was wearing all his armor. But he gave off kind of a Wesley Snipes vibe."

"That's ridiculous," Laurie scolds her. "Who the hell would hire Wesley Snipes for a major motion picture in this day and age?"

"You mean - that was really him!?"

"Nimbar," Swinton calls over to the goopy alien, "Remind me again why you picked her to be on the team?"

"Look, if we're going to stop and reflect on how utterly incompetent and unsuited for your roles you all are, Gorganus will have conquered the entire galaxy by the time we're done," Nimbar says. "Just get your sorry asses to that film set!"

"Yeah, I was thinking," Gordon says. "Maybe I should go back to that OTHER studio. You know, just in case he's moved his base."

"GO. TO. THE. SPACESHIP."

"Ugh, fine. But my agent is going to hear about this."

"Oh, right, wait, one more thing." Nimbar stops the teens from leaving in order to present them with new tools they will need for the final battle - each gets a small shining metallic disc bearing a jewel in the shape of their constellation. "These are your Transo-Diskettes. They will allow you to transform into your Sentinel modes outside of my lair at will."

"Why are we just getting these now?" Laurie asks.

"Hey, Laurie, don't be so ungrateful!" Gordon says. "After all," he continues, turning to look directly into the camera. "Any child would be proud to own one of these exciting new Transo-Diskettes. They light up and make ten different sounds! Batteries not included."

The four teens take a cab to the movie studio, the name of which is carefully obscured. Drew leads them to the wrecked movie set where Gorganus' spaceship has crashed. They board the ship but find the control room empty. However, through the dark, foreboding hi-tech corridors, the sound of horny 90s pop music echoes...

Our heroes race to find the source of the music, following it down through the twisting maze of halls. The countdown timer Gorganus has running appears on screen. "Time Remaining Until Climax: 30 seconds." The teens are closing in on the source, the sound growing louder and louder. The countdown races forward. As they approach Gorganus' private chambers, the sounds of hot, sweaty interspecies lovemaking mix in to the beat of the song. The heroes arrive at their destination, throwing open the door to Gorganus' bedroom. The timer reaches zero, and as the alien despot lets out a deep, satisfied moan, a golden glow shines out of the door, blinding the teens!

When the glow fades, a massive Sentinel-sized Gorganus stands tall among the wreckage of his ship and the set, his armor now shining and golden with touches of the Leo suit's design mixed in. The teens dig their way out of the rubble and gaze up at their enormous, empowered enemy. In the background of the shot Drew's aunt scampers away and out of frame, covering herself in a bedsheet. Gorganus taunts the tiny teens, stomping a foot down at them - the heroes just barely manage to run out of the way in time to avoid being crushed.

Pulling out their Transo-Diskettes and shouting the names of their constellations, our heroes transform into 200-foot-tall Galactic Sentinels and the final fight begins! Unsurprisingly, they are quickly and completely overwhelmed. Their attacks do absolutely nothing to harm the upgraded Gorganus, and he blasts away at them, leveling film sets with each blast. The Sentinels form Knightron, but Gorganus' enhanced, firey laser blasts blows its shield to pieces and quickly begins to blast their armor apart. In a final, desperate attempt to win, Knightron swings its mighty sword Megacalibur at Gorganus. He grabs the blade in his armored hands, stopping its swing. An image of a game controller's X button appears suddenly onscreen, animated to show it being tapped rapidly as in a "quick time event." The two titans struggle over the sword, wrestling for control, until...

Gorganus rips the sword out of Knightron's hand, and as he grasps the handle, the power of Leo flows into it, transforming Megacalibur into another fancy new toy! The triumphant terror cackles victoriously as he swings the weapon at his foe, the blade becoming engulfed in cosmic flame. Knightron is ripped apart and vaporized by the powerful strike, and the victorious Emperor Gorganus looks directly into the camera and laughs as the words "GAME OVER" appear in giant red text.

Cut to the basement of a suburban house. Teen jock Tanker (Tye Sheridan) throws his gamepad to the floor in frustration, growling at the screen. It is revealed the entire movie has been a licensed Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters from Beverly Hills video game Tanker is playing on his friend Sam Collins' computer. Sam (Nick Robinson) yells to him from offscreen, saying it's time to stop goofing around and get back to rehearsals for their band Team Samurai. A still-upset Tanker turns off the computer and obliges, walking back into the center of the room where their instruments are set up - Sam and fellow members Sydney (Madison Pettis) and Amp (Kodi Smit-McPhee) waiting for him.

"Man," Tanker says, shaking his head. "I just can't make it to the ending of this stupid game!"

"Eh, you're probably not missing anything," Sydney reassures him. "The endings in the movies are always terrible."

THE END
