and i would say it is a flop - 25M opening in summer is what, 65M total maybe? on a 125M budget. Thats not good. Unless it smashes it in CHina which is possible .

 

I'm not defending either film.  I didn't care for Skyscraper at all and the opening is embarrassing imo.  I just think that with China the gross will be underwhelming but not in bomb territory.  As for Ant-man, the numbers aren't great when you look at the drop, but when you add it all up and realize that the weak domestic numbers are going to be offset by the pretty good international numbers, all is not doom and gloom.

Ant-Man is no flop but it is a disappointment. Even the studio was no doubt expecting it to get over 200m easily and not be potentially fudged over the mark.

I doubt BP lost anything to AWIT's fudge - but it's also benefited from some double features along the way just as AWIT did -  particularly with AIW

Agreed but I'm annoyed by doom and gloom around here and those ridiculous predictions that AM&TW won't cross 200M. That's impossible as it's still running ahead of AM and, as you say, will get late legs.

So this is going to be marvels first sub 200 million movie since 2015. I can see captain marvel and the solo black widow movie suffering the same faith. The future looks dark and grim. Just bring us avengers 4 and cancel the rest alredy!

650 m was always optimistic.

 

600-615 m isn't a bad floor for phase 3.

 

Seriously expecting 700 m from every MCU movie is kind of silly.

Expecting 100 m increase WW from Ant-man 1 to Ant-man 2 is reasonable (620 m WW).

 

Expecting a 150 m increase (650 m WW) was optimistic.

 

Expecting over 700 m was loonie central.

Exactly.  There's also a very real possibility it doesn't gross as much as the original in NA.  That kind of sucks.

15.5m is a solid weekend for JW2 as far as 400m dom goes. Is only 36.7m away.

 

And looking at Sunday drops for movies that did 1m+ I think Universal has underestimated the weekend and actuals will come in higher.

Girl, please.

Captain Marvel will easily put the MCU right back in their 100-million-plusOW-300-million-plus-Domestic happy club.

As for BW...Scarjo deserves another flop.

Hopefully the tagline will be "watch her play a cis white woman in her first solo adventure!"
