Even if you use Pete's Dragon, you get 29.45 mill.

Pete's Dragon didn't have previews. Remember CR did 1.5m in previews, back that out, use Pete's Dragon as a comp, gets you to 26.15m.

That was closer to mid-August when summer camps were starting to dwindle. We're in the first weekend of August so the multiplier won't be that high.

Why wouldn't it?

Ok, thanks, that makes sense.  I still think it goes higher.  I think they are underestimating the Saturday bump.

The Darkest Minds barely had any marketing and didn't quite look interesting enough to draw people in. I'll watch in when it's out of theaters. I'm so freaking annoyed that I didn't go with my gut and go lower on Spy. My Derby is going to be garbage this weekend but it's not like it was great the other times that I played it. I plugged in 6.87 for Minds so I'm not surprised by it's shitty opening.

It did have marketing, this genre is just super niche and people are clearly over it. Also something that's bugged me: the poster makes no sense and does 0 to sell the movie. Why are they graffiti? This is a movie about kids with powers and you make it look like some punk rock album cover.

Because schools are very much still out. One of the showings yesterday afternoon at my theater was sold out, almost certainly because a big camp or group bought out multiple rows.

Christopher Robin will likely be the most successful Winnie the Pooh film since The Tigger Movie. The real money will likely merchandise sales especially with the teddy bears versions of the characters from this film.

Eighth Grade is not nearly as good as many are saying.  Just my opinion of course but the first half is cringe-worthy in many places and the second half makes it watchable.

I'm somewhere between @Spagheditary's praise and @La Binoche's loathing of it.  I'd say I'm closer to loathing than loving.

The Darkest Minds is Fox's first release since Deadpool and only their 5th release this year. Their remaining releases this year are The Predator, Bad Times at the El Royale, The Hate U Give, Bohemian Rhapsody, Widows, and Alita. Guess they've been really prepping for that sale.

Eighth Grade looks like those cinéma vérité films with a pseudo social conscience that are like zoos to film critics :

they love to fap to films that make them feel part of the middle and under classes.

That sets them off hard.

Hence the glowing reviews.

Last year, favorite zoo visit among the critics was the Willem Dafoe-Motel-Disney movie, all those people trying to survive, it s Marxist  porn to them.

They can't take their eyes off of all this beautiful misery.

Wow, great hold for Tom.  WOM is starting to kick in.  Pretty good for Pooh, was hoping for closer to a "Peanuts" like performance from 3 years ago but that came out in Nov near the holidays so it's not really a fair comparison.  Look, Pooh is huge and Legendary, specially in merch but the movies haven't done the best domestically.  I know this was the first live action Pooh movie and the others were animated but I still look at the franchise historically. The Unadjusted crown is looking good for "Christopher Robin" but Looks like "Tigger" total might keep the Adjusted crown.  Silver lining? This tracking for the best opening of the Franchise though.

Adjusted for Ticket Price Inflation

Rank Title (click to view) Studio Adjusted Gross Unadjusted Gross Release
1 The Tigger Movie BV $78,347,000 $45,554,533 2/11/00
2 Piglet's Big Movie BV $35,517,200 $23,103,423 3/21/03
3 Winnie the Pooh BV $31,164,100 $26,692,846 7/15/11
4 Pooh's Heffalump Movie BV $26,173,500 $18,098,433 2/11/05
TOTAL: $171,201,900 $113,449,235 -
AVERAGE: $42,800,500 $28,362,309
