I Watched One Episode of ‘Game of Thrones’ and Determined American TV is for Perverts

No.

Why are you saying no?  RandomCat is saying that it’s these type of hyper defenses (which I’ve seen before) that put people who aren’t fans of the genre off from it.

You are obviously a fan of the genre, so that’s not something evident to you.  Did you notice how after this thread, there was a backlash in the CC and elsewhere on the forum making fun of anime and calling it for perverts (when this was never a topic of conversation before)?

This is article written in a way where anyone who watched American TV (or Thrones) is going to be put on the defensive because you’re pointing a finger at them.  That’s also going to serve as a divisive tactic that makes people feeling accused be more predisposed to be against whatever you’re advocating for (in this case anime).

I don't spend much time here, reading threads so no I didn't notice anything and that's for the best.

I see where you're coming from, and in a sense it's probably right.

However I still love the article because it's too rare to see anime haters being attacked and shown as hypocrites, it should be done more often: you need to be clean if you're gonna say other people are dirty, if you criticize a genre for being too fanservice or pervy then you should be careful about you watch yourself otherwise you expose yourself to what you are: a hypocrite.

Anyway, I think the thread outlived its usefulness, I made my point.

Like I honestly don’t care what people are into as long as it’s not causing harm to others (child porn, racist propaganda, actual immoral stuff like that).  I have a few friends that watch anime, I watched a few episodes of it, wasn’t my thing, I moved on (I like some of Miyazaki’s stuff and I like Nintendo games, but none of those are anime).

I may inwardly think somebody has poor taste if they like something I don’t, but I’m not going to post an article trying to blast the character of pretty much everybody in the US (and Western Europe at that given American TV is popular there too) because they watch a mainstream genre of entertainment.

That’s what riled me up about the thread

I get you. As someone whose only danced on the fringes of anime, liking what I like, just moving on from what I don't like, it's some of the hardcore "enthusiasts" that just make Anime look bad to me. It's that weird my niche thing is way better than that mainstream thing that makes most fandoms suck.

That and as a casual fan of most things, seeing hardcore fans fighting about pointless things instead of just enjoying something they love. Also shitting on casual fans. Do that a lot too.

Heh...ok. well of course I can only speak from personal experience, but it's people with attitudes like yours that make me not really anything more than toe dipper. And that's with one of my favorite shows ever being Anime. (Baccano! the fucking best)

And the fact you just categorically dismiss my comment only furthers my belief that it's people like you that makes anime unpalatable to a wider audience.

I’m just saying you keep saying “You need to be clean if you’re going to be criticizing somebody else” when the only person who’s been criticizing what people watch, from a moral basis, has been you when you started the thread.

My role here is to balance things, anime are unfairly criticized by a noisy minority but GOT is pretty much unscathed so attacking anime would disturb the balance even more.

I'm like the judge, watching defense attorneys and prosecutors debating in the courtroom :shades:

lol, got and unscathed. It is among most controversial shows every season. And unlike you people make legitimate criticism towards it which got has worked on and improved.

Can't say same about anime industry and widespread sexism in almost every show including my current favorite anime aot.
