Weekend Thread: HTM heading for about 10 mill..CRA killing it with projected 4% drop

Recommended Posts

M:I – Fallout       $8.2M (-23%)    $194.1M

About 20 away from a 3.5x multi. Should get there as LD 4-day will show a bump and end up close to 10. Coming Mon-Thu should add 3.5 (last week was just under 5). So by LD Monday will be aorund 194+3.5+10 = 207.5 and then 10+ more for 217.5-220 seems likely.

So, could Crazy Rich Asians be #1?

I didn't predict this week so I can't claim to be right or wrong but I'm not surprised that The Happytime Murders movie is going to have a lackluster opening. The film sold nothing but one joke. And apparently that's all the film is according to reviewers. When I heard the premise I didn't expect a shallow raunch comedy.

Still haven't had the chance to see it but super happy about CRA stellar run. The Meg continues to do well and I can't wait until Fallout hits the 200mil mark. So happy Fallout didn't pull a War for the Planet of the Apes.

Sorry I won't be seeing CRA I've had problems with those type of people being selfish and arrogant. Just not a fan of rich people.

In that case I have some bad news to tell you about James Cameron...

Amazing figure for Crazy Rich Asians; the best second weekend hold for a film in 3,000+ theaters that was not aided by a holiday, I believe. And with Labor Day next weekend, it has a great chance to have a third weekend bigger than its first.

I'm glad you mentioned this.  This is pretty unprecedented.  A film with a wide release without the benefit of a holiday second weekend, that is going to decrease less than 5% is unheard of.  This is truly an exciting time at the box office.

Guys, I’ve been absent for quite some time (I admit to follow the site only when a movie I root for is released, like Fantastic Beasts or Fallout),so I missed the disappearance of the Olympian God RTH. What happened? Why did he stop giving us his amazing info?

Last time I spoke with him he just said that work this year is feverishly busy.

Fucking insane number for Crazy Rich Asians. Still have to see the movie, but it really looks like as if it's becoming this decade's My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

Amazing, isn't it?  Both films are low budget films that service or cater to an ethnic group that has or had never really been catered to.  Perhaps this is a lesson for Hollywood.  Or maybe it's just a one off.  But you can't deny the similarities between MBFGW and CRA.

I hope this is a start of historic run of CRA stateside. I would not be surprised if it increases next week over 3-day weekend. I for one never thought that CRA would have an outside chance to outgross Solo.

There were people who saw this as being a hit, no doubt.  But I don't think anyone thought it would be this big.

And both deal with preparations for a wedding.
