How many people would have guessed at the beginning of the year that Jurassic World 2 DOM > Solo Worldwide?

I know, its beating a dead horse that is beyond beaten at this point, but it still baffles me a bit.

Probably about as many people as the ones who predicted Ant-Man 2 OS > Solo WW

Solo has to be one of the top 5 surprises of the decade, up there with the American Snipers of the world. At the end of the day, it was still a Star Wars movie, despite all the controversy, and one about Han Solo nonetheless (granted, not Harrison Ford's Solo, but you get what I mean). You'd assume the movie would AT LEAST make a profit.... and you'd be called a buffoon if you said "both Kingsman movies will outgross Solo WW... Solo won't even cross 400M". Think about the scenes.

Looking at 2018 movies so far with prod budget of 100+, JW2 will have the best Global Cume to Prod Budget ratio.

JW2 7.7x (1305/170).
BP 6.7x (1346/200).

DP2 6.7x (734/110).

AIW 6.5x (2046/316).

I2 6x at 1200 ww. It should get close to that.

Fallout could do 4.35x (775/178).

Meg should do around 4x (520/130).

Ant-Man2 will be around 3.85x (625/162).

it's cool that all Jurassic movies have been made on controlled budgets and none of them have been the most expensive film of the year they came out

Really incredible that MI6's budget is greater than JW2's.

Tom cruise running more expensive than an entire island of dinosaurs running

Yeah, AM&TW couldn’t overcome being gutted in TC for the weekend. Looks like it will end some 216-217 now to me, definitely behind Fallout but above Solo.

A few months back when AIW was scheduled in summer then expected summer dom ranking was, #1 AIW, #2 JW2 followed by I2 and Solo battling for #3. After AIW moved out Solo was expected to hit #2 or #3. Now top 5 looking like I2, JW2, DP2, MI6, AM2 followed by Solo and CRA.

I still don't understand why Sony handle Searching release like this. I hope they know what they are doing and wish they have made right decision. The trailer works so well and classy in keeping the plot mysterious compared to outright junk like Slenderman.

Slender Man

Total Lifetime Grosses
Domestic:  $28,569,809    66.3%
Foreign:  $14,500,000    33.7%

Worldwide:  $43,069,809

Had a 3.8 OS weekend from 43 markets. Even if the prod budget is closer to rumored 30 than reported 10, this bo perfomrance won't bother Sony much. It has Italy, Turkey, Spain and Argentina to come. If the costs were closer to 10 and marketing wasn't out of norm then even better.

The movie is already a success. The budget is probably not more than 3 million, I imagine, and it's already up to 14M WW. And it will probably have a solid, leggy run DOM. I agree that it probably should have been a wide release off the bat, but Sundance films are not surefire box office hits, so you never know.

The writer/producer said it's budget was closer to 1m on reddit today.
