ViewerAnon
I haven't seen this myself but I've read a draft of the script and I know a couple people who saw it last month. Keep those expectations in check.

Nia DaCosta's last film got good reviews but it doesn't seem like it was audience friendly, though this one has Peele writing and he's a fun writer most of the time, so I'd still have some faith in it to be enjoyable.
ViewerAnon
I'm super curious about DaCosta. She nabbed a writing credit and she hadn't worked on the draft I read.
ThePhasmid
The trailer is rather effective, but I still feel like the lack of Cabrini Green's history and presence is felt. It's hard to replicate the time and atmosphere of such a place. The projects were are as much of a character as the titular "monster". It's a pretty good little movie, but also very indie with a fair amount of misery porn. Great examination of US opioid crisis and failing healthcare system. Boxofficerules
Is that a red band trailer? A lot of blood shown for a green band.

Doesn't show at the beginning, so I can't say for certain. Scott Mendelson says it's a green band, though: Quote If saying “Candyman” five times causes the hook-handed murderer to show up and gut you like a fish, then this trailer will leave you dead three times over. Unless I missed one, that famous name is uttered 15 times in this 151-second trailer. Moreover, I was shocked, and this obviously isn’t a moral judgment, at the amount of blood and onscreen violence in this “green band” trailer. The first trailer for The Invisible Man contained more onscreen blood than I expected, and this one is filled with carnage. I have to assume that the MPA and Universal have come to a kind of “Just make sure this trailer doesn’t get shown in front of Onward or Mulan” devil’s bargain. Yes, producer Jordan Peele and director Nia DaCosta (whose terrific previous feature, Little Woods, is available to rent for $4 or stream on Hulu) are bringing back Candyman. So does Nerdist, for that matter: Quote 5) Will Candyman be R-rated? Though this is a green-band trailer it looks like the film will probably be R-rated. Not only do we get a lot of truly scary moments in this first look, but during the trailer, reveal DaCosta mentioned that she “loves gore” and that one of the highlights of working with Peele was that their idea of horror aesthetics are so radically different. “He’s great at not showing everything,” DaCosta explained, “whereas my instinct is the exact opposite.” Going by that, and just how scary the trailer managed to be, we can expect this to be an R-rated movie. 75Live
Trailer was ok I guess. The song choice was awful. I'll probably watch the movie.
