salvador-232
Discounting the estimated openings in Russia, Japan, and China, the holdovers did 16,6 M, a 42% drop. I'd say that's harsher than expected

Universal tends to underestimate OS usually.

Apparently the Russia thing is including last week so still not good. Debuted in South Korea with 1,3M. so holdovers did 22,4. Just 10% drop. With holidays I think it can add 50-60M OS (assuming it will start to fall harder when Christmas is over)) Thinking 220-230 OS. So it should reach 500M WW even if Domestic stalls at 270 or so. I wouldn't say locked but very likely. DOM really saved this. Edited December 23, 2018 by salvador-232

Omni
1 hour ago, MinaTakla said: @Omni Predictions for WW and OS given this weekend's performance? Grinch was expected to hold very well this weekend as Christmas is near and most of the money it's doing comes from European markets + Japan, that are generally leggier than the others. That said, the hold is very strong. Last weekend was close to 25M with actuals, this weekend is 23.7-5.5 (SK+Russia)=18.2M, meaning a mid-high 20's drop, which would probably become mid-low 20's once actuals are released. I expect 50M more from European markets, 15 from Japan+SK, 5/10 from the other holdovers + Hong Kong and Ukraine (next week's - and last - openers). From a 170+ actual, that means like 235M OS. Not too sure though, there is no precedent for a Christmas-based toon's post-Xmas holds. 500+ is locked though, that is certain. MinaTakla
Thanks Omni. DHD: THE GRINCH Illumination Entertainment You’re a green machine Mr Grinch. Universal/Illumination’s animated take on the Dr Seuss classic Christmas tale crossed $400M worldwide this weekend, now tallying $422.5M. Of that, $169.3M is in the overseas stocking. This weekend added three offshore markets for 62 in play which stuffed $23.7M into the chimney. New hubs include Russia with $4.2M from 1,662 locations, followed by Korea at $1.36M from 429 and Ukraine at $461K from 178. Seuss’ work is best known in English-speaking markets, as well as Germany. The latter was up 2% this weekend and stuck the No. 2 slot to outperform newcomers Mary Poppins Returns and Bumblebee. The cume there is $13.6M. The UK likewise was up, by a percentage point, to cume $31.1M. Also jumping were the Netherlands, Belgium and New Zealand. Mexico ($13.9M cume/-35%/close to Moana lifetime), Australia ($11.4M/-7%) and France ($11.2M/-13%) are the other Top 5 plays. The Grinch steals into Hong Kong on December 27.
