salvador-232
Openers this weekend were led by Argentina ($321K/218 locations/No. 3) which came in bigger than Big Hero 6 (+25%) and Trolls (+57%). Portugal made $295K at 83 for No. 2 and in line with Coco. Turkey opened to $265K from 277; Romaniabowed to No. 1 with $218K from 80 to land 34% above Moana, 38% bigger than Coco and 168% over Sing. Don't know what DL is smoking for the Argentinian comps but sure is one hell of a drug. (Or they adjusted by ER which is the most idiotic thing you could do in Argentina). Anyway, the opening is lower than Smallfoot and Teen Titans, despite that the market was clearly screaming for animation. Brazil drop is awful and it will likely end up in the viticiny of Smallfoot (5-6M USD). Europe continues to open on par with Sing and holds seems strong. This movie is going to be totally euro-dependent because is totally bombing on Asia and LA. (with the possible exception of Mexico as Purple Minion has said, we'll see) Edited November 25, 2018 by salvador-232
PanaMovie
The Grinch grossed $7.6m from 33 for an early $35.3m and stands at $215.8m worldwide. The children’s film opened in 11 markets led by Argentina on $300,000 in third place, and Portugal on $295,000 in second. He UK provided the top holdover result as $3.9m in second place elevated the running total to $17.8m after three sessions. Source: Screen Daily That's not good for LA But we should wait for Mexico
Marathon
Interesting that the Illumination branding doesn't seem to be moving the needle much (if at all) in most markets. In that case I guess even a faint familiarity with the Grinch character could be helping (mainland Europe numbers?).

MaxAggressor
From DHD: In other family fare, Universal/Illumination’s The Grinch stole into a further 20 markets to lift the offshore cume to $64.8M with Mexico, China, Japan, Korea and Russia still on deck. The global gift box counts $268.3M to date.
MinaTakla
THE GRINCH Illumination Entertainment Universal/Illumination’s The Grinch added 20 markets this session for a $27.1Mweekend. That lifts the overseas cume to $64.8M and worldwide to $268.3M as it continues to steal hearts domestically. Offshore, Dr Seuss is not as well known outside English-speaking markets. However, Germany is an outlier. The movie debuted there this session with $3.75M at 656 locations to double Moanaand come in ahead of Boss Baby and Coco. Also new was France with a No. 1 bow of $3.7M to track above Big Hero 6. In Australia, the start was tops, in line with Trolls and above Coco with $2.9M from 279 locations. Italy ($2.1M/452), Spain ($2M/339), Poland ($992K/212), Belgium ($808K/157), Central America ($739K/155), Austria ($625K/76) and New Zealand ($570K/98) were all No. 1 bows. The top holdover markets include the UK at -33% for a $21.7M total to date, followed by Brazil with $4.9M so far. The Nordics also continue to be aboard the sleigh with Sweden ($2.2M cume) and Norway ($2.2M) seeing slight drops. Coming next are Mexico this week, followed by China, Japan, Korea and Russia later this month.
el sid
Here it is neck and neck with FB2 from admissions according to insidekino (both 375k OW in the final trend). But with 3.75M as a family film with also small children watching it I guess it did win the weekend in Germany and the admissions number should go up in actuals. Are they totally dumb or they're doing it on purpose to make this performance look better? In Italy it opened #2, grossing ONE THIRD of Bohemian Rhapsody on OW. PanaMovie
A superb $5.2m number one in Mexico led the nine new territories. Germany was the chief holdover on $2.8m for number five and a $7.2m tally in the second weekend, followed by $2.4m for number five in the UK for $24.8m after four. In other second weekends, France produced $2.3m for number two for $6.5m, Australia $1.7m for number one for $5.3m, Italy $1.6m for number two for $4.1m, and Spain $1.4m for number two and $4.4m. Source: Screen Daily I think 245M OS and 270M DOM (could be lower) 515M WW
salvador-232
The apocalyptic bombing of this in China and Russia could be heard even here. Japan doesn't look good either. European Markets are holding very well but from a low base for the most part, could this go under 200M OS?

Illumination has a great marketing machine in China, yet the Grinch couldn't even make 400K freaking dollars on OD. The heck. 200M will happen though. Most of last weekend's figure came from European/English-related markets, where it's holding well and should do so in the next two weekends or maybe more. About Japan...do you have any source for its OD?

Doing very rough estimates I get to 340k USD OD (considering that the site is 66% of the market and using 1300 yen as avge ticket price) but Corpse should know better. KP1025
I can't believe this could go below even my original conservative predictions. Seuss is just too hard to sell overseas, Illumination brand or not. Though $500 million WW should still be on the table, no?

This weekend looking at 12-13 (-16%; last weekend was ~15) according to Deadline's Friday estimates. That will take Dom to 240-241 with 30-40 more to come imo for 270-280 dom. Could climb a little higher than that too. OS was 100 last weekend with a strong 25+ weekend with holiday legs and good holds in Europe to follow. 200+ OS and 500 WW cannot be ruled out.
