Black Panther at nearly 650m was a big surprise for me. Obviously overshadowed by its insane domestic run but I think it shows the overal mcu growth. Ant man at 409m may seem disappointing to some but it’s without being prominently featured in an avengers film and only a minor role in civil war. I think 550m is my guess for OS

400m range. Captain Marvel hasn't been introduced in a previous movie like Black Panther did which probably helped that movie overseas

But she was introduced in the midcredit scene for A:IW (well, only her logo - but it created huge interest for the character online) and will have a big role in the next one.

She wasn't in the teaser for Endgame but if she is featured in the next trailer, this movie will get some of the best franchise synergy in box office history.

also this looks more like Guardians of the Galaxy with the space stuff which will likely limit it a bit overseas.

Okay, it's the pre-Avengers 4 movie and it has connections with it...but 600M is more than 30% higher than the highest grossing SH solo movie not named Black Panther (= the hyper hyped Dark Knight Rises). Isn't it too much?

I'm not saying I'd bet for more than $600M but if the movie is funny and good enough and loved by everyone (fanboys and non-fanboys alike), then it's got chances. Otherwise, $400M is more likely.

yep it might get older women and women who are normaly not that into marvel movies to watch it. I marvel is normaly 58% - 42% this might go 45% - 55% and thats a lot of extra dollar + if this movie is good it has a much bigger pool of audience to pull out of than the normal Marvel flick.

The main reason for it to break out is the totally dead market, and the realtively weak competition it faces afterwards.

Still, we already have an example of a first solo superheroine movie getting strong reviews, being liked by audience, not facing much competition and attracting more females than males (52 vs 48), and that grossed 412 millions domestically. Which is a huge total, but still far far away from the crazy 600M some were talking about.

Guardian of the galaxy 2 also achieved to attract females audience (F+25) a lot (56/44 split versus 59/41 for the first one according to the MPAA) and that continued on thor 3 (44%), Ant Man Wasp (45%) and black panther (45%).

 

Last 2 year,s Marvel many of the superheroes movies did play quite well on the female demo, there is room to grow and reach a 52-53% type (without loosing male in absolute numbers), but it was already quite popular among the demo (compared to the more geek need to have followed a lots of movies Marvel entry or a Batman V Superman that was 62% Male vs 38% female that had much more room to growth among that demo.

I don't think many people here are thinking $600M Domestic (most here are thinking high 300M or low 400M). The $600M guesses are for OS which idk if I agree with personally (still thinking $500M).
