Huge fan of Busiek's "Astro City". If fact, it's the only current comic book I buy every issue/trade paperback of.

It should actually be better as a TV series then as a movie; That Busiek does a lot of good stories that fit into a single issue (he is just about the only writer in comics that can pull that off) lends itself well to a series format. And even his multi issues story arcs are short by today's comics standard, generally only four or five issues.

What is interesting is that although Image ..the published..is owned by DC, DC studios is not involved in this. Apparently Image has the rights to conduct is owns negotiations and make it's own deals.

And I demand Catherine Zeta Jones as Winged VIctory....

It's certainly a different look at Super Heros...and one that is really different, in a period where most "different" takes on Superheros are just  imitation of "The Watchmen". Look, I love "The Watchmen" and consider it to be one of the high  points of comics (Now the movie is a different matter, was very disappointed in it) but ,god, it has been imitated and cloned. I like Astro City because it's viewpoint is so unique.

A lot of the stories view the heros thought the eyes of ordinary citizens of Astro City,,an Idea the Busiek fooled around with in "Marvels" but really goes to town with in "Astro City".

Image is not owned by DC. Image is specialised on material

It was founded in 1992 by several high-profile illustrators as a venue for creator-owned properties, in which comics creators could publish material of their own creation without giving up the copyrights to those properties, as is normally the case in the work for hire-dominated American comics industry, in which the legal author is a publisher, such as Marvel Comics or DC Comics, and the creator is an employee of that publisher.

Imprints are

example Top Cow:

Witchblade

Lara Croft comics

The Darkness

Joe's comics = J. Michael Straczynski's works (started out of Top Cow)

Image is the 3rd largest/biggest comic publisher in the US

Marvel too has an imprint for creator owned material: Icon Comics

edit to add: and the defunct Epic Comics
