The biggest mistake for the FB series is not having a true screenwriter.

rowling is a bookwriter not a screenwriter and it shows - those are 2 very different talents.

Her books tend to be so dense you need a strong screenwriter who can take the book and adapt it down to its core for a decent length movie - i am not sure Rowling is capable of doing that.

If WB doesn't bring in a very strong screenwriter for the next movie I could see FB going the way of Divergent.

Also, very good numbers for Creed and impressive as heck for Ralph.

My theater is looking quiet today outside of Creed and some showings of Ralph. I can see Creed, Bohemian Rhapsody, Widows, and Green Book dropping under 10-15%, but everything else is probably coming in for 20%+.

That's the norm for Thanksgiving. Everything will surge back up tomorrow.

I don't think that's it. Last year saw Lady Bird, Three Billboards, Call Me by Your Name, Darkest Hour, The Shape of Water, I, Tonya, The Post, and Phantom Thread (all movies that went on to receive major Oscar attention) all open in the last two months and each put up at least respectable grosses. I guess last year's crop of contenders was just more appealing to audiences than the ones this year.

Agreed. Some years there are more appealing films and other years they're arent any. This year it looks like only ASIB, Black Panther and Blakkklansman will be the success stories BO-wise. I would have said Vice might do well too but that budget is ridiculous.

FB2 could settle below HT3 on the dom charts. Hopefully not below Halloween. ASIB, AQM, CRA should be top 3 WB doms for the year.

So far Solo has by far this year's most embarrassing gross in relation to expectations. Star Wars movies should only be compared to other Star Wars movies when it comes to pre-sales. They shouldn't be compared to comic book movies.
