Dear Evan Hansen | Sep 24 2021 | Universal | Supposedly about "High School Students" | Premiering at TIFF!

I never saw the musical but apparently she has one of the three major adult roles (she's playing the mom of the kid who committed suicide while the others are the father and Platt's mother). Curious who they'll cast as the others now if they're getting a big name like Adams on board.

I just read the plot on wikipedia and what the fuck is this lmao? It's just really, really dumb and this sounds more like thriller like Fear than an heartwarming coming of age film.

Honestly, I ask myself that EV. ERY.  DAY.

It's so bad.  It's such a bad musical.

And yes,

Wikipedia plot descriptions of musicals never do them any favors, but it's funny how many people on Twitter seemed to think DEH was some heartwarming coming out story. Ha ha, nope. Maybe World's Greatest Dad will get more love now.

This likely won't be very good, but probably no worse than something like The Prom (this doesn't have an offensive James Corden so it already has that advantage). The Rent comparison (Broadway adaptation that brought back most of the cast long after they aged out of their roles) from earlier seems appropriate.

He looks older than the teachers, I couldn’t take that trailer seriously ha.

It's absurd, but at least they have a better reason for doing it than most high school films...Ben Platt was in the original play, right?

He was, although he was already well into his 20s when he played the part on stage five years ago (not to mention he first captured people's attention playing a college student a few years before that in the original, soon-to-be-decade-old Pitch Perfect).
