So...is it possible for Rudin to be removed from a project that was finished and already made? Is there precedence for this?

Wind River actually took Weinstein's name and logo off while the movie was still playing in theaters and all of his orphaned projects that were sold off had his name removed. But it's doubtful anyone outside the industry or who doesn't closely follow it actually knows who Scott Rudin is. His name being listed among the producers (which tend to be buried among the credits) won't sway anyone who already wanted to see this movie (which has been in the can awaiting release for a long time now) either way.

I don't think this is supposed to light the BO on fire. It looks very niche

Its not going to be a blockbuster by any stretch of the imagination but Grand Budapest made well over $100m worldwide and this feels most similar to that film in terms of Wes Anderson; so I think it could do alright, maybe $40-50m domestic and $90-100m worldwide assuming its well received.

This happens pretty rarely, especially to happen to what is considered the biggest film of this year's fest. Hearing speculation it's because they don't want to answer any questions about Scott Rudin.

Dumb decision that has drawn significantly more attention to this issue than just doing press and having a boilerplate answer would have.
