Spoiler

We open with both the Endless Entertainment and Endless Animation logos appearing in a story book as Antonio Banderas narrates (with the respective animation mirroring hand drawn animation): “Legends say that long ago, humans, who lived amongst the earth and giants, who lived in the sky descending down from giant beanstalks from magical beans, worked together in harmony. The giants would defend the humans from devastating catastrophes and the humans would provide food and help make them clothes. However, a pack of the tallest and strongest giants felt they should be in charge and dubbed themselves the Storm Giants, erupting a war between them and the giants who believed in harmony.”

We then quickly cut back to the CGI world as we see a battle in the clouds between the 125 foot tall Storm Giants facing off against slightly smaller 105 feet tall counterparts. The battlefield is in a barren grassy field with a giant, ominous castle on the edge a bed full of gray clouds, darkened by the activity. The Storm Giants are winning thanks to a magical cannon that allows them to control the weather summoning bolts of lightning and hurricanes, which although it hurts the opposing giants, it taking a greater toll on the humans below. The benevolent giant king, tells a few of his comrades to go down and protect the humans while the rest of them take out. The giant king brandishes his twin swords and commands a bold charge, taking out opposing Storm Giants and dodging bolts of thunder and powerful gusts of winds, making his way into the castle. The giant king then makes it inside the control center of the castle in awe and disgust at what he is seeing, as a flock of what appear to be birds mostly blocked out by a golden light in a dome, hooked up to a machine with long pipes connected to the cannons.

We then Antonio Banderas narrate again “It turned out that the main power source of the Storm Giants’ weather controlling weaponry was powered by a flock of golden birds, a magical bird that can lay golden eggs with feathers sorts as clouds.”

The giant king quickly severs the tubes connecting to the dome but before he can free the birds, a blast of ice nearly stops him. We then see the Storm Giants’ leader with a beard of red hair staring down the king, holding a staff filled with feathers of the golden bird on the top of the sphere like head with a blade protruding. The giant king yells at the storm giant leader for his treachery and the two fight as swords and staff collide, and bolts, wind and ice howl furiously. The leader manages to get the upper hand on the king by stabbing him but the king refuses to give up without a fight, and breaks the dome freeing the birds with his fists. Furious, the leader grabs the weakened king outside prepare to toss him off the skies but his foot gets loose in a vine snare from a nearby beanstalk, causing the leader to fall and plummet to the ground as the weakened king saves himself from the fall.

“And so with the leader killed and the Storm Giants defeated, the king decides to find a sanctuary for the birds far away from anything and anyone. The king also decided for the safety of both mankind and giantkind, to level the beanstalks connecting their two worlds but not before saying goodbye, in which humans gifted them enough livestock to survive in the cloud but leaving them barren. The king also gave his most trusted human a satchel of magic beans left of the beanstalks to protect. Legend said after that the giants were extinct but it was prophesied that the Storm Giants who escaped the fate would return and a hero would venture into the world of giants, embark on an epic adventure and unite the two worlds once more.”

We then quickly cut to an awestruck young 8 year old Jack listening to Anco (Antonio Banderas) telling his story. Anco reveals that in his youth he traveled through the globe as Jack’s eyes widen with childlike wonder. Anco asks for some spare change which Jack is about to happily give until his father, a strapping Spanish man Marco comes in, relieved to find his son. Marco tells Jack to get away from that lunatic and takes him away saying they have to go back home anyways. We then get to see a look of Madrid, as we see the hustle and bustle of farmers getting new materials in the farmers market, and we see merchants trying to sell things as some type of festival happens in the streets as people are all around having a good time. Marco tells Jack that he shouldn’t believe anything that Anco says as they’re just stories and he’s a crazy old man. Jack understands but asks his dad if he can partake in the Harvest Festival which Marco refuses as the two have much work today back home.

The two get on their horse drawn carriage and ride home to the back to the Garcia’s family farm. The farm is small but somewhat lush, with a variety of vegetables and fruits, and there’s a few cows, a small flock of chicken, and a tubby and lazy pot bellied piglet named Chorizito. We then see Alejandro and Lucia, Jack’s respective older brother and older sister, both of whom are tougher and rougher than Jack, play fighting as Marco happily greets his children and asks where their mother is, as we see Camila, Jack’s mother doing some yard work, Camila and Marco share a kiss as their children cringe. The family then continues a day of yard work and even though despite Jack’s interest in it, rather roaming off he proves to be a valuable help for the farm.

We then cut to the Garcia’s enjoying a family dinner. Marco proudly tells the family that with the new crops he’s got the Rivera’s farm will become the biggest farm in all of Spain. The family talks about their day until it’s Jack’s turn who is lost in a daydream about his own exploration of the world one day. Marco tells Jack to pay attention as he quickly snaps out of his daydream. Jack timidly said the day was fun. Marco suspects it’s about the story the hobo told him, while Jack says he knows the story isn’t real but he does want to explore the world. Marco tells Jack that his place is here as a farmer reminding him of his family tradition. Jack and Marco quickly get into a heated argument that lands Jack to be sent in his room.

Camila shoots her husband a dirty look and talks to him about it in private. Both Alejandro and Lucia, like most children are both curious and nosey about it until Marco manages to distract them by asking if either of them have cleaned out the animal stables, causing the two siblings to argue over which one has to clean. Camila asks Marco why is he so tough on Jack. Marco defends himself as he says he loves Jack but reminds her they’re barely struggling to make ends meet and he is worried that if Jack keeps up the silly dream he has, he’ll won’t succeed in life as he believes it isn’t practical, and says only wants the best for his son and secretly worries if he does become an adventurer, he’ll get hurt. Camila tells Marco that Jack is a Garcia and that he’ll be fine, and jokes for such a manly man, he worries to much. Camila then tells Marco to apologize, but he initially refuses as his father never apologized for things like that, but agrees for tomorrow at least. Camila decides to go in and check on Jack.

We see a distraught Jack in his room as we see Camila walk in. Jack asks why is his dad so against him exploring wondering if Marco hates him. Camila tells Jack that Marco loved him from the moment he was born but explains that Marco just wants the best for him and is very stubborn. Camila assures Jack that no matter what he is that she and his father will love him and that he’d make a great farmer or adventurer, playfulling nuzzling her youngest child’s hair. Marco then comes into Jack’s room as he struggles to but eventually apologizes. Marco says although he doesn’t want Jack to be an explorer or something like that, he does want him to remind him of who his is, gifting him a medallion passed on from the Garcia family, from father to son. Marco says that if Jack wants to be both he needs to remember who he is. Marco hugs his son goodnight and leaves. Jack decides that night to try to be both in life.

Through a musical montage in which Jack sings, showings as the years goes, Jack’s thirst for an adventure grows as does the popularity of expeditions in Spain as he tries various ways to find adventure (we see him attempting to find and make new things most of the time humorously failing (hunting for a chupacabra while on his way back home taking a forestry route, making a model plane that ends up crashing and sending him into the true, attempting to go an boat ride to the New World which he accidentally sinks)), while sticking to his farming roots to help his family as the farm goes under tougher times as well as Camila getting sick and Marco getting older, showing his skills which impress his father but the farming life bores him but he is still hopeful for a better life for not just him but his family (“Over The Horizon”).

It's a little funny how you have a bunch of Hispanic oriented names....and then Jack.

Yeah, in hindsight I never thought about that until now, kept Jack as the name cause of the story, originally Disney had kept the name even with the film taking place in Spain. Probably will change the name.

A sneak peek at The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, climbing into theaters December 22nd, Y5

Spoiler

We open in the streets of New York City as the hussle and bussle of crowds are scattered through the streets as throngs of citizens go about their daily lives. We then see a giant dome like spaceship hovering over Time Square. We then see the digital screens quickly go to static until we see the face of Kang The Conqueror, a humanoid with blue skin and a green and purple jumpsuit. Kang tests to make sure the communication systems are working until his assistant, a British gorilla butler named Winston with a brain on top of it’s head says the light is indeed working.

Kang introduces himself to the masses and he prepares to announce his dastardly plot to the civilians below. A civilian (Will Arnett) asks if he’s taking over the Earth again, but Kang says no, but he did last week, this week he’s taking landmarks, showing a shrunken Pyramid, a shrunken Effiel Tower, and a shrunken Great Wall Of China as he explains with these landmarks, he’ll make a theme park/timeshare scheme. The civilian calls it the stupidest scheme ever but doubts he’ll win as some hero will take him down. Kang denies it but the civilian reminds him it always happens to him or any other villain and no matter how close they get some hero will win, claiming it basic mathematics. Angered, Kang fires a blast from the ship at the civilian that turns him into a baby. Kang says that’s what he gets for being a smart ass. Kang proceeds to turn civilians into infants as he steals some of the most valuable landmarks of New York.

Luckily, a blast of ice stops Kang temporarily as we see Iceman, a man with ice powers whose body is made entirely out of ice. Kang angrily attempts to fire his de-aging ray at Iceman but a force field made out of colorful red, yellow and blue bubble like material, repels the blast elsewhere revealing Speedball, a young man in a blue and yellow jumpsuit with blonde hair, along with Nova, a young man in a high tech space suit and golden helmet, Dazzler, an African American women resembling Cardi B, in garb similar to that of a pop star and Howard The Duck, a humanoid duck armed with giant blasters. Nova cockily explains the cavalry's here. Kang asks what kind of team are they, and Nova explains they’re the Nova’s Squadron. Nova begins barking orders at the rest of the heroes but Dazzler quickly asked who made him leader. Nova argues he’s the most powerful and he should be in charge. Howard The Duck snarks he’s also the most insecure as he and Dazzler fist bump at the comment. Iceman thought the team name was “New Warriors” not Nova Force and the four (minus an annoyed Screwball) argue. Kang tells them to shut up and that their bickering is annoying to him and probably annoying the audience too and that he has something to stop them. Kang creates a giant time portal over the heroes as an emerald scaled, serpentine dragon about 50 feet tall flies out. Kang introduces the dragon as Fin Fang Foom, a demonic dragon with a hunger for power. Fin Fang Foom gleefully comments as he found his next meal. Fin Fang Foom then spews out a blast of acid that melts Iceman’s ice. The five then battle the dragon monster. Dazzler lets out a few verses of a song that causes waves of light energy to hit Fin Fang Foom while Howard The Duck fires blasts from his blasters as he and Dazzler share a few quips. Nova and Screwball combine their powers to encase and immobilize Fin Fang Foom but to no avail. The fight quickly escalates with Fin Fang Foom at an obvious advantage.

A lone squirrel sees this and scurries of elsewhere and rushes across the city to an apartment window as we see Doreen Green, a red headed human woman in her early 20s with a 3 foot squirrel tail asleep in her pajamas, with her two squirrel companions, Tippy Toe, an excitable female squirrel with a valley girl accent and Monkey Joe, a cowardly but very lovable male squirrel. Both of the squirrels don collars that allow them to speak English. The squirrel from earlier wakes the other two up but Doreen is still asleep. Monkey Joe is reluctant to wake Doreen up, hoping for a lazy Saturday but Tippy Toe shoots him a look that causes him to reluctantly agree. In a short montage, the two try various things to wake her up while the New Warriors are getting completely trashed by Fin Fang Foom: splashing water on her face, making loud noises complete with drums and large brass symbols, and even car batteries and jumper cables until Monkey Joe has an idea, saying Speedball is here to ask her out, causing Doreen to excitedly wake up, only to realize it was a ruse. Tippy Toe quickly informs her that Kang is invading the city, Doreen quickly changes into her costume and suits up as Squirrel Girl (which is a mix of the one from the comics and Ultimate Spider-Man) as the three quickly rush to the scene of the crime as Squirrel Girl calls in a swarm of squirrels with her.

Fin Fang Foom, flying about the battered and bruised heroes is about to finish them as Nova hopes for some help. Squirrel Girl then confronts Fin Fang Foom with her squirrel army behind her. Nova lets out an annoyed sigh, saying he meant someone more useful. Squirrel Girl tells the squirrels to restrain Fin Fang Foom which surprisingly works as the squirrels swarm Fin Fang Foom’s body holding him and his mouth shut, causing him to lose his airborne advantage. Squirrel Girl then tackles the dragon into a building and slashing him with her nail like claws. Using this to their advantage, the New Warriors then decide to take on Kang, however having another ace up his sleeve, Kang does a surprise attack and fires his deaging laser reverting them into babies (or in Howard’s case an egg).

Fin Fang Foom with his wings injured, then breaks free of the squirrels sending them flying outside, but the squirrels safely make it out. Squirrel Girl, quickly tells the squirrels along with Tippy Toe and Monkey Joe to get the babies to safety (much to the displeasure of Monkey Joe as the baby heroes think of him a stuffed animal, fighting over him) as she then brandishes her claws and attempts to fight the dragon in close combat, while dodging acid blasts but is physically outclassed by Fin Fang Foom easily. Gaining an idea, using her smaller size to her advantage, Squirrel Girl runs to a gigantic building, but Fin Fang Foom is able to get inside but half of his long body is stuck in the building using his long neck and head to pursue her. Squirrel Girl taunts Fin Fang Foom and causing Fin Fang Foom to crash into the building’s foundation multiple times in his attempt to eliminate her while climbing to the top.

Squirrel Girl finally reaches the top of the building, realizing that she’s sort of stuck up there but gets a clearer view of Kang’s ship. Thinking of comical ways to get up there, she goes through a few ideas that she dismisses, until she finally has an idea… when Fin Fang Foom’s large head bursts out of the floor and is about to chomp down Squirrel Girl, devouring her. Fin Fang Foom comments she tasted a bit gamey. However, hanging onto the dragon’s uvula, Squirrel Girl, covered in saliva, forces the dragon to gag her out, landing on a barely standing ledge. Fin Fang Foom mocks her for her weakness until realistically after the moving around, the foundation of the building falls apart, burying the dragon in the rubble. Squirrel Girl lets out a sigh of relief but the pillar left she’s standing on crumbles as she questions her life choices so far when a green blur saves her by catches her mid air.

Squirrel Girl, opens her eyes to see She Hulk, a green muscular woman and instantly starts geeking out, thanking her while praising her. She Hulk thanks her for the compliment, we then see Beta Ray Bill, a lizard like alien in Asgardian garb holding the Mjolnir, Ironheart, a young African American girl in an Iron Man suit similar to the Mark L in Infinity War but the torso is black and the helmet is red and gold, and finally Captain America, with a mix of all three’s features (Steve Rogers’ face and physique, Bucky's metal arm and Falcon's wings). Captain America thanks Squirrel Girl for her efforts but they'll take it from here
