‘Aquaman’ Makes $9M Splash Thursday Night, $13M+ With Paid Sneaks; ‘Bumblebee’ Drives $2M+ – Friday AM Update

UPDATE Friday AM after previous Thursday night exclusive: Aquamanas we saw it, is coming in with $9M, and when counting all of its Amazon and Wednesday paid sneaks of $4.7M, that’s $13.7M for the DC oceanic superhero to date stateside.

Meanwhile, Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns amid the competition of a big fish in the marketplace last night and Paramount’s Bumblebee remain quite very solid with $4M, -17% from Wednesday for a two-day take of $8.8M.

Paramount is reporting $2.15M for Bumblebee‘s last and with its Dec. 8 sneaks that’s $2.85M to date.

STX’s Second Act earned $515K at 2,607 locations. Earlier week projections saw the Jennifer Lopez romantic comedy with $10M+ over 5 days, STX is seeing $8M. They’re looking to recoup the $15.7M net production cost and P&A in the long run.

Only 215M from OS-C until the new year. What?

So, they did add early previews to get the double digits - called it!

Although $4.7M was higher than the $3M I thought they'd have - the Wednesday sneaks must have also done great!

Nah they kept them separate and reported the $9m for Thursday exclusively.

Marwen can fail, for straight washing.

Not good. 20-25M OW. Hopefully legs will be strong until the MLK weekend.

It is a fine opening considering a majority of its audience is likely waiting to catch it once Christmas passes (unlike Aquaman, which is most definitely frontloaded and will easily have the biggest drop of any movie next weekend because of it). A total higher than the franchise-killing last Transformers movie would automatically be seen as a win in Paramount’s eyes.

Bumblebee could be really fun to track. It’s opening is so small and the reception seems to be so good that an insane multi may be in store.

It's opening bigger than MPR (at least based on that Preview number, it will have a higher OD).

But you might be right.
