Saw the RT “reveal” tweet at 72% then when I clicked on the link it was already at 69%. 
 

The first is (generously lol) 30%, so this will already end up an improvement.

This seems really unfair when it’s 68% on rotten tomatoes. I know the average is 5.7/10 but still, a bit over the top.

75% on RT and 53 on metacritic with 26 reviews.... this is a significant improvement. I think Venom 1 had a 35 RED on metacritic.

Consistency in tone seems to be the biggest reason for the improvement.  Also agree with @Menorthat they are making up for the overly negative reaction to the first film.

Average is 5.8 though so I'm not sure if 75% will hold. better than 4.5 for Venom (33%) but not out of the woods. It needs to go over 6.0 to assure it won't drop below 70%.

It seems they kept what worked in the first movie and trimmed or slashed what didn't work. 

 

Anyway, I really enjoyed the first one and I'm sure I'll love the sequel.

Uneven tone was one of the big problems of the 1st, so glad they see they fixed it:)...

 

All I could think of was that this sequel was a can't miss along the lines of Godzilla vs Kong, but with supers...I mean, two wildly funny movie monsters and actors in those roles do big battle at some point in the movie after chewing scenery for awhile- this is what I call a "can't miss" in the concept envisioning stage.

 

So many movies go wrong at that concept stage, but this one seemed so right...it looks like they turned the concept into the reality:)...

76% from 49 reviews, not bad at all but I believe most people saw 72% on RT reveal.

This sudden shift in critics' perception considering nothing was improved from the first one besides tone consistency kinda makes them look like they were paid or something.

It's critics getting on the wavelength between now and then. The first movie had an obvious disconnect from the initial reviews for whatever reason and it seems to have taken hold since then

They seemed to have focused on what people enjoyed about the first movie more. The Hardy/Venom bromance will sell this, I'd happily watch a whole movie of them just cooking breakfast
