I'm surprised it's this getting the "Paramount+ after 45 days" treatment and not Top Gun 2 when the latter is currently set to open over 4 months before this (and has already released a bunch of promotional material, unlike this). Cruise must have one heck of a contract for that movie.

apparently TG 2 on epix. i'm confused

MI7 getting this treatment and not Top Gun 2 is surprising

Top Gun 2 seems to he getting similar treatment. Just will go to Epix first and then to P+ after 90 days.

I think it's actually not going to Paramount+ until after the traditional pay TV window for Epix. The transcript for today's Paramount+ event mentions Top Gun 2 won't even be on Paramount+ until 2022:

Quote

The rest of our 2021 film lineup... including Snake Eyes, Clifford the Big Red Dog and Top Gun: Maverick... will all be coming to Paramount+ in 2022 after their respective theatrical runs.

Seems like MI7, AQP2, and Paw Patrol are the only movies with any sort of shortened windows at all.

This will drop considerably from the last film, can’t be helped though.

Par killing their only two franchises worth a damn. This and A quiet Place. Congrats, Par!

Head to head with Thor: Love&Thunder...Thor only got that May summer kickoff date because the James Gunn scandal pushed Guardians 3 back. Thats the only reason...Ragnarok pulled off the upset over DC's big "Avengers" team up, Justice League, forcing this sequel on Feige 🙂.

But to go against Tom Cruise's A franchise, thats a tall order. Perhaps Marvel Studios can put enough FEAR into Paramount (?) to pull out of the date. Marvel is good at that 🙂. Maybe an aggressive advertising campaign can make Paramount blink. Not that its gonna crush Thor 4? They will both cancel each other out, and only see moderate success.

Cruise also happens to be big in China, while Thor is not. That bothers me...but on the same token, Marvel is big in the US, and Cruise isnt. So I see a "draw".

Paramount should have kept the November release date for this and moved TG2 to next summer. Now, i really doubt they're gonna make any good money on TG2
