I'm actually really happy Close didn't win for The Wife because it really would've been nothing more than a legacy Oscar, even if she's great in the movie. Hopefully she'll land an even juicier role in the near future and that will be what finally nabs her the win.

Cuaron is one of the best directors alive. Deserves it

The Best Director Oscar, for 5 of the last 6 years, has been won by one of the Three Amigos (Alfonso Cuarón, Alejandra Ganzález Iñárritu, and Guillermo del Toro). That is domination from three terrific Mexican directors.
