Edgar Wright’s upcoming horror film was quietly pulled from Focus Features’ release calendar. It was originally set to hit theaters on Sept. 25.

Within a couple of weeks of its online debut, the Trolls movie shattered Universal’s most optimistic models, grossing about $200 million, and convinced the studio that some of its films could turn a profit without a theatrical release. Universal is now reexamining the release plan for its entire schedule this year.

all 3 of Thomasin McKenzie's films this year might end up direct to streaming

Maybe they'll go for a June/July counterprogramming spot next year like Baby Driver did. This probably wouldn't be a VOD release unless Edgar Wright was 100% behind the decision.

Hmm, maybe a limited debut in October/November, then wide over Thanksgiving weekend?

Weird release date imo. Thought Focus would be giving this an awards push with at least a Cannes premiere first. Maybe they're gonna go for the SXSW crowd.

You thought an Edgar Wright horror movie was getting an awards push?
