Covid-19 isn't the only virus that has likely been inside a movie theatre lol. Guaranteed, people in the past at some point have likely gotten (and died from) the flu or some other disease that they contracted from someone while at a movie theatre or some other public place. I gotta agree with Barnack here

Of course that's true. But I think COVID-19 might be a catalyst for the world to be more careful moving forward.

How stupid is it that we have these insane security measures at the airport since 9/11, yet we still allowed people with a bad fever to walk in spreading germs to everyone in jam-packed spaces both at the airport and inside the airplane. Pretty absurd when you think about it.

I would not mind if they added temperature readers at the door for every public building. If you are running 100+ degree fever, sorry but you ain't getting in and spreading those germs to others.

I agree with this. COVID is gonna change how things are done. It's not like "humans will never fly again after 9/11".

I don't know what the threshold is of when is acceptable, but risking lives to see a movie simply isn't good optics, and if you rush it to the point where a not insignificant number of people are potentially getting sick at the theaters, it will sink the theaters in a much more permanent manner.

Watching Tenet in theater will be more dangerous than Joker was supposed to be.

For public buildings I'm...pretty sure that wouldn't be legal

how much money does this movie need to make for it to be called a success story in the post-COVID-19 era?

with cinemas operating at lower capacities.  would a 35M OW and a leggy run to 150M domestic total be good enough?

If that's accompanied by 300+ OS, yes (depending on the China take, maybe more)

It's a 200M movie so even in covid era it needs 500M. budget x 2.5 = 500M. that's just break even point. it cannot be considered a success without breaking even. budget really puts the pressure on it, there's no way around it.

Agreed. No matter the circumstances, if a film loses money it's not a success story. Given current conditions, as long as it does break even (which will indeed take $500-600 million worldwide) we can give it a pass.

Don't think the film costs 205 mil. Nolan comes under budget so the actual budget is probably way lower. Variety (the source for Tenet's 205 mil budget) reported that Dunkirk's budget was 150 mil but it was reported to be around 100 mil closer to its release date. Wouldn't be surprised if this cost closer to 150 mil than 200 mil.

Still a blockbuster sized budget, one that I don't think WB will want to release at half capacity at best

Half capacity, but it'll be the only major/ANY release at the time of opening. Half capacity, but theatres will be able to double their screen count for this.

Again, you guys all are assuming every place will open the same everywhere, which is very likely not going to be the case. Even if every theater in Texas opens at half capacity that doesn't mean jack shit if California and New York are all shut down.

How's worldwide opening looking? I mena theater opening?

Looks like July most of the world will be up and running (at the moment, anyway), including China. Only big question marks are US and the UK where there's such a clear rush to reopen before the science really supports it, and are also the biggest/most important markets.

As noted in the reopening thread, here in the UK, July 4 is the earliest date.
