BOT Top 100 Movie Songs of All Time Version 2! Final Deadline March 18th!!!

Recommended Posts

So, this was what I was planning to do back in October before inheriting the animation countdown. I decided this was the right time to go through with it again.

List is simple. What are the best movie songs of all time? Now as there are many ways to categorise a movie song I will clarify:

1. Any song that was sung by a character in a movie (that can be as short as Singing in the Rain from Clockwork Orange or a full blown Musical number)

2. Any song that plays as part of the soundtrack during the runtime of a movie (Like say... Immigrant Song in Ragnorak)

3. Any song written specifically for a movie (even as an end credits song) (Men in Black)

4. Multiple instances of the same song within the same franchise are not eligible, pick the best one. The same song in different franchises can be voted for in two different positions. If a song has multiple versions within a film or franchise, I will log all votes together as one. (Like say Remember Me from Coco)

5. A Movie song MUST HAVE LYRICS AND SINGING - No scores or instrumentals, just songs.

6. Songs that are in trailers or deleted scenes but not the actual movie are ineligible.

7. Any rule I haven't thought of yet

Please choose songs based on their impact and relevance to the movie and its scene. Don't just pick a song you like :)

Your list can be anything from 15 to 100 songs. The scoring system will be presented in the Spoilers below (as it is needlessly complicated :D ).

Spoiler

1st 50 pts

2nd 42pts

3rd 35pts

4-5th 32pts

6-7th 28pts

8-10th 25pts

11-15th 22pts

16-20th 20pts

21-25th 18pts

26-30th 16pts

31-35th 14pts

36-40th 12pts

41-50th 10pts

51-60th 8pts

61-70th 6pts

71-80th 4pts

81-90th 2pts

91-100th 1pts

Multiple Vote Bonuses: (Total)

2 Votes - 30pts

4 votes - 36pts

6 votes - 42pts

8 votes - 50pts

10 votes - 60pts

12 votes - 72pts

Every subsequent 2 votes - 12pts

If anyone wishes to put forward a non-ordered list it will be accepted and scoring will be done with all songs given an identical score equal to the average score the films would have received in an ordered list.

PM lists are preferred for both ease of compilation and suspense purposes.

Not for nothing, but I have problems with this rule. I feel like a 'movie song' should specifically be a song written for the movie rather than just any song played during a movie (with maybe an exception for musicals based on existing stage shows). Especially since almost every famous song out there has probably been played at one point or another during a movie.

I mean, to put it in simpler terms, I like 'Sympathy for the Devil' by the Rolling Stones, but I don't feel like it should count as a movie song just because it briefly played in Suicide Squad.

The intention is that you pick songs that are used well in a scene. I am hoping that people do not just pick songs they like and find a film it is in.

It worked out pretty well last time around, and obviously people are free to personally boycott such songs. We shall see...

Nah, there are loads of songs that have great use in a film, that were not made for the film.

things like Stuck In The Middle With You for example is iconic because of the film scene.

Recent films i can think of maybe like Baby Driver and GOTG.

I only voted for original songs that were written for the movie they appeared in. Even though I know the rules stated we didn't have to, that's how I chose to vote. So if anyone wonders why there's no West Side Story or Fiddler on the Roof songs on my list, that's why. Also, no Bittersweet Symphony from Cruel Intentions, which I know is making Chasmmi's list.

Bittersweet Symphony... it might not make... yeah it is. Probably Stuck in the Middle from Reservoir Dogs too.
