It got the best audience reviews of all Chinese NY movies, and could have a very nice run over there:

In the US it looks like it is getting a few IMAX for a couple of days then a very limited run. A bit like the Dragon Ball movies but on a smaller scale.

No word on it coming our way yet

Not that it would get a release near me anyway, not enough Chinese people in this area, I think usually they are just relegated to London...

But I recall ip man getting a decent release, and things like Wolf Warrior 2, Monster Hunt 2, the Mermaid got releases in the UK recently.

I saw WW2 in London, absolutely loved it.

It's not getting many sessions at the theatres its showing at in Australia.  Only 1 per day at Event George St.  This is a theatre basically in Chinatown which at the same time has 2 sessions per day of another Chinese film and 2 sessions per day of a Korean movie.

It's more like China ver The Day after tomorrow,2012.

The Structure of last days in earth is good.It Build a brand New frozen planet. But the lines are pretty bad and cheesy.Main leading roles can't act. This makes the first act of film annoying. The third act is much better Supporting role save it,I give it a B.7/10

My friend and I are thinking of driving to Chicago to see this movie. It's 4 hours drive one-way. Not sure if it's worth it.

If you're looking for a high-quality film, I suggest not. Some problems can be easily pointed out for those movie fans who saw many many movies. If you want to see a film about disaster like 2012, The Day after Tomorrow, it could be a good try.

Box office is low in the US at the moment, and it is late at night, and TWE is actually in some theaters already...

Still, let the Fandango record show these glorious presales: :sparta:

IMAX is also giving The Wandering Earth a 3D release in select North American theaters with the first day grossing an estimated $158K in 33. There was notable uptake in New York, Boston and Santa Clara. The film goes wide in 2D on Friday.

Watched the movie. I would not go as far to say it’s a masterpiece. It’s not. I saw problems with the plots, acting, and pace, etc. The visual effects are good but not excellent. But given the low budget, I would say they are impressively well done. As a Chinese, I have no difficulty understanding why mankind would choose to utilize the planet as a giant spaceship, instead of just carrying genes and DNA away to another planet, leaving all mankind on the Earth to deaths. But I wish this movie had devled a bit further into the core.

All that being said, I personally think this is pretty decent blockbuster. Even by Hollywood’s standard, it’s average or above-average. To be more concrete, I think it’s better than 60-70% of Hollywood sci-fi movies made in recent years, and better than 70-80% of those with a similar budget. The idea is novel and cool and some scenes are remarkable. They made the best use of every penny. It’s absolutely a good start for Chinese blockbusters and I hope many more mature works will follow!

In North America, the movie’s IMAX-exclusive run was $230K on its second day, landing at No. 10 on the domestic chart from just 33 cinemas. It moves into 2D play in North America on Friday.
