Pet Sematary has had pretty great marketing and keeps boasting those excellent early reviews. If anything, they'll co-exist just fine. I can't imagine Us hurting Sematary. I think they'll both do well, never said anything about Pet Sematary doing poorly. But if I had to take bets on which is more likely to hurt the other, then I'd definitely say Us would hurt Sematary. Plus, Us will be in its third weekend by that point. I imagine that most horror/Peele fans will have seen it by then already, and its drops will be based on WOM among the GA. Restore faith in it. Actually think it helps Sematary. Edited March 27, 2019 by JohnnyGossamer
Brainbug
Also i think its important that nearly all the people who see Us at the moment will watch the trailer for Pet Sematary in the cinemas before their showings. So in a way Us could help that film not damage it.

ZeeSoh
Was not sure where to put these. Below are profit estimates from Deadline for the following movies. These are for 2018 movies and only for top 10 dom movies (meaning cut off dom is $215m). This means movie like Venom wont show up in this list but will show up in the small movie list that Deadline will do later on. #7) Deadpool 2 - $235.4m https://deadline.com/2019/03/deadpool-2-box-office-profit-2018-1202583699/ #8) Jurassic World 2 - $222.8m https://deadline.com/2019/03/jurassic-world-fallen-kingdom-raptorous-revenue-results-2018-most-valuable-blockbuster-tournament-1202583316/ <—-participation is insane for this movie #9) The Grinch - $184.6m https://deadline.com/2019/03/the-grinch-box-office-profit-2018-1202582389/ #10) A Star Is Born - $178.1m https://deadline.com/2019/03/a-star-is-born-box-office-profit-2018-1202580798/ Edited March 27, 2019 by ZeeSoh 3

I would not have expected that. (If I am reading Deadline's chart correctly The Grinch had P&A of $121, ASIB $110, Deadpool 2 $135M and JW $145M) Also kinda crazy how high Deadpool 2's is as I felt like there was way more promo for Deadpool but maybe Fox spent more on TV ads for it this go around. The list is numbered based on how much profit a movie made not what their domestic grosses are. Bohemian Rhapsody will be higher on the list as it made a shit ton of money on a small budget. Movies yet to come are Black Panther, Infinity War, Aquaman, Incredibles 2, Mission Impossible and Bohemian Rhapsody. Deadline has a cutoff for this list of 215m dom which means only those movies that made more than 215m domestically will make the list. Deadline usually makes another list for smaller movies which is where we will see movies like Venom, A Quiet Place, etc.

It was treated as "meh" on here. Both movies probably cost around the same ballpark to make, F8 did better overseas and CM is doing better here in North America. Nobody was tracking F8 every day and saying what a great run at the box office it's having. In fact, people were saying it should have done more. Again, CM will not reach $1.2B Becase both F8 and Jurassic2 are sequel to 1.5b ww while CM is a debut super hero movie.

Yes P&A for "regular" movie can get not to far from blockbuster, Moneyball domestic release got a 57.67 million budget, Men in Black 3 71.6m, not that giant of a difference. And a ASIB will have a much bigger award campaign expense in there than those others. A lot of the extra visibility for them can come from product placement type of deal, making 250M-400M type of world campaign cost to the studio just 150m.

Matthew
1) Infinity war 2) Black Panther 3)Incredibles 2 4) Bohemian Rhapsody 5) Aquaman 6)???? Mission Impossible can't be more profitable than Deadpool because of high China gross and And high budget. Who will be 6th any guess. My Guess is Venom.
