Hmmm.... was expecting X-Mas, but launching a musical in October worked wonders for A Star is Born. idk, a Baz musical just felt like a closer comparison to The Greatest Showman.

who is to say this will be a musical?

as for BO potential i don't really see it other than it being a Hanks vehicle. If no1curr about Elton John then certainly even more people don't care about Elvis.

The description of the film is that it "will explore the life and music of Elvis through his complicated relationship with his manager Col. Tom Parker"

I think this is told from the perspective of Elvis's manager. Tom Hanks is the main character.

Also Elvis first started shagging Priscilla when she was 14? Wow. Didn't know that. Yeah no way that is in the film, well if it's told from elvis's manager perspective then they can just not include it.

That being said, Baz Luhrmann did direct Romeo and Juliet, and juliet is 13.... so who knows!

This won't be R, and Luhrmann's a super populist film-maker. Have a hunch that Hanks is what'll help this a lot, and it could have great X-Mas legs a la TGS (assuming this is WB's X-Mas film). Then again, the Hanks factor might not play a big role and it might not even open in X-Mas, so this prediction could implode.

I would not be surprised if the film really is more about The Colonel then The King.

Wonder if Baz is going to bring out that the Colonel, was, pretty much, an illegal immigrant.

No joke. He came into the US from Holland under dubious circumstances,, and his citizenship status was always shakey.

That is why Elvis never did any overseas tours, despite extremely lucrative offers to do so. The Colonel always went on tour with Elvis, and was afraid If he left the US immigrataion would not let him back in.

This is a project I think fits Luhrmann's talents as a director, which Gatsby, despite it's success, did not.

I disagree about Luhrmann being a super populist filmmaker. He has had he shares of flops..."Australia" being among them.
