Greenland didn't go into enough of the disaster unfortunately. Was way too much of a character piece for a Gerard Butler movie.

They obviously didn't have the budget. I think it was to the film's advantage, though.

Emmerich is at it again lol

He doesn't seem to get tired of disaster movies...

He tried branching out, but no nobody wanted literary conspiracies or measured accounts of history from Emmerich (The Patriot was a long time ago). Even his "Die Hard at the White House" attempt underperformed compared to the B-version that came out the same year. Might as well stick to his specialty of hilariously stupid doomsday movies...

White House Down was better too, so that was a bummer.

This is what Emmerich does. He's an auteur.

I liked Midway, but I cannot forgive Emmerich for IDR. He ruined that franchise completely. Can't even enjoy ID now. Will Smith should have been part of IDR. Would have given some valuable inputs and been another 800+M hit.

I don't put all the blame for IDR on Emmerich -- it's all about the script/story.  I can't blame him for delivering a lackluster endeavor when they clearly weren't inspired by the script.  It's everyone's fault, all who chose to go ahead with it.

Lionsgate didn't spend on production. Some bank financed the movie, I think.

This is the reality for 50% or more of most major Hollywood productions, these days -- hedge fund and international investment has really kept Hollywood's blockbusters alive (not all to good benefit, though...see above).
