This sounds perfectly Emmerich-ian.

Here’s the official synopsis from the production: ‘The Moon. It controls our nights, our days, the seasons, and our ocean tides. And since the beginning of humankind, its phases stood as a symbol of enlightenment, inner knowledge – and our own immortality. Until now. Suddenly and without warning a mysterious force knocks the Moon from its orbit around Earth and sends it hurtling on collision course with life as we know it. With mere weeks before impact, and against all odds, a ragtag team launches an impossible last-ditch mission into space, leaving behind everyone they love and risking everything to land on the lunar surface, unlock its secrets, and save our planet from annihilation. But first they must battle an unknown and unfathomable power that will challenge everything we know about the moon, the universe, and ourselves.’

I think this is one of the best ideas for a rip-off of Armageddon that I've seen in a long while.

But seriously, this idea sounds kind of cool. The moon's right there in the sky, and we don't usually think about it being dangerous. Hopefully the film turns out to be great!

massive roland emmerich disaster movie being sold at cannes? no one wants ol' Rol any more? :(

When your last few big budget films bomb, that is what happens .....

Look, when you finiance a Emmerich film, you are not interested in actually making a good movie. You are interested in one thing: Making Money. And Rol's ability to do that is in question;it has been ten years since he had had a successful film.

So old Rol, want to basically destroy the world again just like he did in "2012".

Not that interested...apocalpyses in the movies are a dime a dozen nowdays, but it keeps him from butchruing history, it's a good thing. I tremble at what I am going to see in "Midway".

Hey, an original sci-fi blockbuster   -- ---- From Roland Emmerich

Excitement a little damped but still exciting!

I would not call the plotline of this very original at all. It has been used in how many Movies and TV shows?

Roman Emmerich has debatedly only made two good films: Stargate and Independence Day,

Ok White House Down was kind of cool.

Emmerich blows thing up real good, but other then that his skills as a filmmaker are minimaL

That his attempts to do low budget "artistic" films have been total disasters proves that.

Josh Gad is flying to the moon.

The multi-hyphenate has closed a deal to star in Moonfall, Roland Emmerich’s latest disaster thriller.

Lionsgate, which partnered with Emmerich on his last picture, World War II actioner Midway, has North American rights to the project, which is eyeing a start of production this fall.

Written by Emmerich and 2012 co-writer Harald Kloser and Spenser Cohen, Moonfall sees its plot go into action when the moon is knocked from its orbit by a mysterious force and is on a collision course with Earth. Life as we know it hangs in the balance and with just weeks to go before impact, a ragtag team is launched into a seemingly impossible mission to land on the lunar surface and save humanity.

Gad is the first person cast in the ensemble and will play a character named KC Houseman, described by the filmmakers as odd and unkempt in a way that suggests a high level of intelligence and an equally high level of disorganization. He is a genius who correctly predicts that the moon has fallen out of its orbit, thus making the space-obsessed, profoundly unfiltered and eccentric man one of the most important people on Earth.

I was on board with the moon falling on earth plot but Josh Gad playing someone with "a high level of intelligence" and "one of the most important people on Earth" really stretches the boundaries of realism.

Even funnier when you realize he plays that exact role as a joke on Avenue 5.
