Plot:

Spoiler

We open into the deep future as humanoid cows have taken over Earth due to heavy pollution as two cows hunt for the human rebel base for the Bovine Overlord. One cow remarks his friend is sucking the overlord’s dick but the another cow remarks he’s a racist and always has hated Angus Americans as the cow retorts he just doesn’t want them marrying his daughter or in his neighborhood.

However the cows are ambushed and quickly beaten to death by Steve Williams, one of the last humans alive and a cyborg with an eyepatch, stealing plutonium and riding away on a motorcycle. We cut back to the cows as one of them is being robbed by a brown cow with a golden grill, hoodie and shades as the racist cow remarks “Typical”.

Steve returns to the base to meet Dr. Kuzinak, working on his chronological warp device which the argue whether or not it’s a time machine. Kuzinak tells him to kill Woody Johnson his former boss as he caused this mess and Kuzinak’s ex wife so he won’t pay for child support. Steve steps into the time machine only for it to turn into a sex machine. Kuzinak then hands him the time machine, a handheld device as the base is swarmed by the cows who have found them due to Steve foolishly falling for a fake Tinder Woman “Madison Notacow”.

The two attempt to fight the cows as Windows 10 updates, much to Kuzinak chagrin as Windows 10 sucks as Steve teleports away but Kuzinak is captured and bought to the Bovine Overlord. Kuzinak refuses to talk unless the Overlord asks nicely as he reveals he has more devices on him. The Overlord debates sending a cow as Future Bobby, a redneck in BDSM garb offers to do it. The Overlord is confused as he’s a sex slave as Bobby says he wants to keep it that way:

Back in Brickleberry National Park in 2015, everyone’s favorite incompetent Park Rangers (the bumbling Steve, the short tempered and rather bigoted leader Woody, pot addicted Denzel, hot blonde Ethel, the narcissistic and mean bear cub Malloy and the super strong and homely lesbian Connie) discuss Obama’s Gun for Cash program as Woody believes it’s a  ploy for Obama to use for his Kenyan army to take over which Ethel berates Woody for his racist conspiracy theory. Connie attempts to flirt with Ethel for sex who refuses and threatens to call the HR department which is revealed to be Connie. Ethel agrees if and only if the end of the world were to happens as Future Steve appears explaining he’s here to save the planet from doom much to Ethel’s horror and Connie’s delight.

Meanwhile rednecks the dim witted Bobby and motor mouth BoDean huff gasoline as future Bobby appears to asks for their help. They agree but Bobby asks if the two gave each other handjobs would it be gay which Future Bobby denies much to Bobby’s delight.

Future Steve explains the apocalypse and that everyone but Steve dies as Denzel steals Steve’s time travel device to escape his fate. Future Steve attempts to kill Woody with... a T-Shirt cannon... which surprisingly breaks Woody’s nose. Before Future Steve can kill Woody with a beefy T, Future Bobby and the rednecks stop him.

Future Bobby tells Woody to come on him if he wants to live. Woody attempts to correct him but Future Bobby knew what he meant, as Woody grabs Malloy as they run away. Meanwhile, a naked Connie waits for Ethel in her bedroom to fulfill her end of the bargain which Ethel refuses until Connie’s lawyer comes in threatening to take her to court. Also after the birth of Jesus, Denzel beats the Three Wise Men and Mary and Joseph and kidnaps baby Jesus to raise as his child.

Back in the present, Future Bobby steals a hearse as the five attempt to outrun Steve who uses an Uber rickshaw driven by a stereotypical Chinese man complete with straw hat and buck teeth. Woody attempts to throw a corpse at Future Steve but it misses and the corpse hits the car of the family mourning the woman. Future Steve fires his T-Shirt gun, blinding the car window causing them to crash into a bounce house with children, killing them. However, they evade Future Steve thanks to some spikes causing the rickshaw to explode.

The rednecks, Woody, Malloy and Future Bobby hide at a safe house where Bobby and Future Bobby give each other handjobs. Future Bobby also reveals Malloy dies during the apocalypse much to the bear cub’s dismay as he hoped to be a dictator. Meanwhile, Denzel teaches a six year old Jesus to use his gifts for his own game and trains him to be a winning gladiator for money as well as lying his origins in that he came from space, given an Adamantium skeleton and arc reactor and fell into a vat of radioactive spiders, gamma rays and Goblin serum. A young Jesus is wowed as he asks Denzel anything else as Denzel says his mother was a virgin which Jesus laughs at.

At 16, Jesus becomes a selfish douchebag as a result of Denzel’s teaching and leaves his father but not before finding Denzel’s bible as he angrily confront his father about his lies and leaves to be crucified, much to Denzel’s sadness. Back to the present, Future Steve damages his T-Shirt Cannon arm forcing him to get a replacement from a claw machine but heads off hellbent on stopping Woody.

Thanks to Malloy’s betrayal, Future Steve finds Woody as Future Bobby saves Woody by sending them to the past. Malloy and Future Steve chase after him as they find themselves in 2012, fighting the bloodthirsty and cute Squabbits. Future Steve finds Woody but is unable to kill him as he guess Woody is from 2012, not the one they’re after. Malloy chastises Steve for his stupidity as Woody attempts to escape by hurling Squabbits at Future Steve as the four chase each other throughout time causing Lincoln’s death, and Hitlers’ mustache winding up in Howland Island in 1937.

Future Steve fights Future Bobby and win but not before being beat up by Woody. Malloy calls Future Steve an idiot as Future Steve suggest killing a child instead as Malloy realizes they can kill Woody as a kid and leave. Woody and Future Bobby attempt to stop them but their time travel device stops working. The two track down and beat Albert Einstein to get him to fix it but Future Bobby realizes he needs new batteries but give Einstein severe brain damage.

Woody and Future Bobby travel to the day Woody was conceived as they’re found by Woody’s mother. Woody tells her Bobby was a stalker and he fought him as Woody’s mom shoots Future Bobby with a shotgun. Woody helps his mom charm his father but his father came home drunk and passed out. Woody comforts his mother by pouring them drinks but winds up having sex with her, thus being his own father. Malloy and Future Steve travel to the 1970s as they plan to kill Woody as a kid  as they introduce themselves as Steve as Uncle Roostaspoonberger and Malloy as his midget Armenian lover, much to the bear’s chagrin. However, Future Steve is unable to kill Woody feeling sympathy for him as his mother is horribly abusive to him while treating her poodle better than Woody and treats him to a real birthday and becomes a real role model for him.

Future Steve decides to stop the cows head on as Malloy refuses to leave until they kill something and kill Woody’s mother poodle. Meanwhile Ethel and Connie go to court as Judge Judy judges them as Ethel exclaims she was tricking and Connie is the HR department. Judge Judy sentences them into 20 minutes of dry humping as a compromise. Denzel tries to stop Jesus’ crucifixcation as the two reconcile as the Romans beat up Denzel as Jesus springs into a violent rampage and kills them.

As Future Steve rounds up the park workers and the denizens of Brickleberry to fight back as well as Woody joining the cause inspired by his uncle despite the fact they may not have guns gives a rousing speech. With Connie’s history with Obama, he gives them all the guns they took for his Kenyan Army in exchange for Connie’s week old panties. They rush to where the cows touchdown and fight them. Future Bobby attempts to sabotage to maintain his cow torture sex utopia taking Connie hostage as the others don’t care about Connie. Bobby kills Future Bobby though as he realizes BoDean dies in the future as all the hot alien cow cock isn’t worth the life of his bestie as Bobby tells BoDean to keep his body cold as he reorts it’s not gay.

Future Steve and Woody fight side by side together as Woody finds out Steve was his uncle and thanks him for being a good father figure but insists that his father was a great man with a great sausage. The Bovine Overlord and his super Bovine soldiers arrive with their mothership as their gun immunity and superior strength causes them to be disadvantaged until Denzel and Jesus arrive to even the odds as Jesus kills the cow with brute force and brutal ways. Ethel points out shouldn’t history be radically changed by Denzel raising Jesus as Woody retorts it makes more sense than Legends of Tomorrow.

The Bovine Overlord retreats until Woody tosses a Squabbit he got from 2012 as he couldn’t resist and tempts it with a burger and chucks it at the mothership, as the Squabbit kills the cows on board and causes the ship to explode. With the world saved, Future Steve thanks them for their help as he expects to peacefully fade away but actually his body parts fade away one at a time, losing his skin then his muscles then veins and so on as Future Steve is in agonizing pain as the other laugh at his pain. Future Steve then retorts he never would’ve saved those fucking assholes if he knew this would happen. Woody asks what they should do with the dead cow bodies as Malloy suggests opening a Chipotle.

Abstract: A German defense lawyer cheats on his wife; his wife learns of this, and attempts to send him subliminal messages, so that the husband is convinced to tell her the truth.

This is a German-language film.

Spoiler

The opening sequence is completely made up of computer screen footage in which Mila (Diane Kruger) sorts data such as names and phones numbers with software such as Microsoft Access. It is shot in a way similar to Moneyball. We cut to Mila, who gets up from her desk, walks past many cubicles, waves hello to a few coworkers, retreats to the break room, makes herself a cup of coffee, sips it, and sighs--all in one unbroken shot.

She drives home from work in high traffic. She parks in her driveway and walks into her two-story house. And she has dinner with Otto (August Deihl), who has also come home from his job as a defense lawyer. He won yet another case. Mila tells Otto that she is happy for him. When Otto asks Mila about her day, Mila tells him that it was "just another day". The final shot of the dinner scene is them sheepishly eating their food, not really interacting with each other any further than they already have.

Otto lays down in bed with a book in his hands. Mila opens the clothing drawer... and she finds a bra she hasn't seen before. When Mila confronts Otto about it, Otto, without missing a beat, states that he purchased the bra as a gift for her, and that she can check the same clothing drawer and find the receipt for the purchase. Mila looks inside the drawer and finds the receipt for the bra. She smells it, and displays a suspicious look. She thanks Otto, but she thanks him uneasily.

The next day at work, Mila stares into her coffee in silence. She then decides to search Google for public records of Otto's cases. She does not find any trace of Otto participating in a trial during the previous day. She decides to search through Otto's Facebook by logging into his account--she's memorized his account information. She looks and finds the DMs that Otto's been sending and receiving with a woman named Sabine (Sandra Hüller). She spends a great deal of time reading through the Direct Messages; the audience is also able to read the Direct Messages, just as Mila is. When she finds the previous day's messages revealing that Otto bought the bra for Sabine and invited her to the house--apparently for sexual pleasure--Mila storms away from her cubicle and cries alone in the break room.

Mila and Otto have dinner again that night. Mila stares angrily at Otto, who maintains his composer as if nothing is wrong. Otto nonchalantly asks Mila what she is so angry about. Mila lies and says that she is angry about her company laying workers off without any warning. Then she says, "I hate it, Otto. I hate it when people don't tell the truth." Otto says that he agrees as he dips a slice of bread in olive oil and shoves it into his mouth. Mila excuses herself, leaving Otto alone.

The next day at work, Mila decides to go onto her own Facebook account and send Sabine a message. She tells Sabine who she is and that she knows about the affair. Sabine replies and admits that her and Otto have been "interacting" with one another, also admitting that she was informed of who Mila was prior to the adulterous behavior. Mila tells her that she doesn't want Otto to know she found out about his cheating at the moment. They plan to meet for coffee after work. Mila leans back into her chair and holds her hands to her head.

She sits down at an outdoor cafe an orders a cappuccino. She sips the coffee and waits for a long time, until, finally, she Sabine walking to the table from far away. Sabine sits down with Mila and orders a macchiato. They stare down at the table for a long time until Mila asks questions and Sabine gives answers.

"How long have you known each other?"

"Three months."

"How long have you been sleeping together?"

"One week."

"Are you remorseful?"

"...I'm still deciding on that."

Mila angrily retorts that Otto is her husband, and she gets up to walk away when Sabine tells her that Otto is the one that pursued her. Mila stares at Sabine before walking away.

We cut to policeman knocking on the door of a rundown apartment building. Timur (Numan Acar) opens the door, and the policemen enter the apartment illegally. We cut to a sequence of events in which Timur pleads not guilty by reason of the illegal search and Otto is selected as Timur's defense attorney. Otto meets with the prosecutor, Fabian (Moritz Bleibtreu), as the defense attorney and prosecutor are supposed to. Otto tells Fabian that he plans to bring up the fact that the evidence against Timur was obtained illegally. Fabian gives an impassioned monologue about Timur's guilt to his crime--that if Timur does not receive the temporary imprisonment necessary for his crime, the law will have failed society--no matter how the evidence was obtained. The two men agree to disagree, and warn each other that they'll be going into court with no holds barred.

We cut back to Mila in her office. She receives a DM from Sabine: "Have you told him yet?"

Mila replies: "No."

"Why not?"

"I want him to be the one to tell the truth to me."

Mila spends a long time waiting for Sabine's next DM. She tries to distract herself with work. She tries to distract herself by getting coffee. Finally, it pops up on her screen:

"I can help you."

Mila really doesn't know what to think as she looks down at the DM.

Another DM pops up.

"The first thing you want to do is act like you still care about him."

Mila doesn't like that very much. She types:

"Fucking hell I'm doing that. He cheated on me."

Another DM:

"Trust me."

At dinner that night, Otto tells Mila about the case. It's the most excited he's been about a case in a long time. He tells her the dilemma: that Timur is surely guilty of his crime, but the illegal search poisoned the tree of evidence. After acting uncharacteristically intrigued by Otto's story, Mila takes all the dishes and begins washing them by hand--she usually just puts them in the dishwasher. The camera lingers on Otto's face while Mila does the dishes. He wears an expression of guilt--the face worn when the woman's back is turned.

Mila and Otto lay down on the bed with their backs turned away from each other. We flashback to Sadine's next DM, which says: "Remind him why he married you in the first place." We cut back to the symmetrical shot of Mila and Otto on the bed; Mila simply reminisces out loud about how wonderful their wedding was; how happy the guests were; how lively the dancing was; the way the knife slid into the wedding cake; how good to the taste that cake was; how they dived headfirst into the future. Otto tells her that he loves her and leaves it at that. A single tear rolls down Mila's cheek.

We cut to Otto as he visits Timur, who is behind bars. They have a discussion about the case. Timur wants to go back home to his wife and kids. Otto ensures him that he'll be able to do so.

We cut to the trial. Fabian is telling his final speech to the jury. He implores them to find Timur guilty and punish him for the crime. Then he sits down and straightens his tie.

Otto stands up. He paces around the space as an eerie silence permeates the room. We flashback to the moment when Mila finds the bra in the clothing drawer, when Otto lies to her with a straight face. We cut back to Otto in the court room as he says nothing and sits down at his chair, much to Timur's horror. The judge sends the jury to sequester for deliberation as Otto reflects on his choice and Timur buries his hands in his face.

After dismissal, Fabian pulls Otto aside and tells him that he's really glad they see eye to eye in regards to the need for justice in the world. Fabian walks away with a certain swagger, while Otto stares down at his reflection in the marble floor.

At dinner that night, Otto admits to cheating on Mila with Sabine. But Otto tells Mila that Sabine was the one who pursued him. Otto tells Mila that he was relentlessly tempted by Sabine, that he didn't feel he had any other choice but to give in. Mila coldly tells Otto that she wants him out of the house tomorrow, and that she'll soon after be filing for divorce. When Otto suggests that they sleep together one last time, Mila obliges.

This time, while lying down in the bed, Mila and Otto are facing each other. Mila tells Otto what Sabine had told her: that he was the one who pursued her. Otto tells her about the lengths Sabine would go to lure him to her. Mila tells Otto: "I'm sure you two will be happy together, now that you've been lured in."

The next day, Mila and Sabine meet for coffee again. They order the same coffee drinks they ordered the last time. Sabine smiles sadistically with her lipstick-coated lips and tells Mila that Otto is going to wish he had never cheated. Mila asks why. Sabine admits that she is a con-artist who lures men away from their wives, spends all of their money, and leaves them to dry. Mila tells her: "You haven't just ruined Otto's life. You've ruined mine." And with that, Mila storms away from the table as Sabine sips her coffee in personal victory.

Fade to black.

Leon Greco (Andrew Garfield) is seen under a thick sheet of ice at a frozen lake. Greco violently beats his fist against the ice trying to break throug or get someone's attentions. Moments pass by and life is slipping from Leon. His eyes close and he begins to sink.

Suddenly Leon's eyes are wide open and he shoots up right in bed. He glances over at a clock that tells him it is early in the morning.

The next day Leon has a doctor's appointment. During the conversation with the doctor it is revealed that the dream Leon had was actually a memory of a real near death experience he had. Leon was saved by an experiemental drug called Hormone K that regenerates neurons in a damaged brain. Today Leon was recieving his third shot of Hormone K. (The first occuring whilenhe was in a coma and the second shorly after he had woken up)  The doctor begins to ask leon a serious of numbers to test his memory but much to the doctor's suprise leon is able to complete the serise of numbers before he's finished telling him what they are. When asked about this leon reveals that he remembers the numbers from their previous appointments. The doctor tries again with different numbers to the same result. The doctor tries a thrid time this time doing a much longer serise of numbers that Leon has never heard before. After a moment leon is able to recall the serise of numbers perfectly. The doctor decides to send leon for IQ testing.

We see the doctor reveal that leon scored in the 99th percentile on the IQ test. This is a shock to Leon. Leon had always been smart but this was new territory.

At home leon is working on some graphic design when he gets a phone call from his freind asking about seeing a movie. Leon tells his freind that he was actually planning to go to a one women play tonight that sounded interesting. Leon's freind scoffs at this idea and hangs up. After a second Leon stands up shocked. He had never been able to double task (talk and do graphic design at the same time) before. He is startled and excited.

Later Leon gets a call from the doctor saying they want to give him a fourth shot of hormone K and do a study on him. Leon is of course ecstaric to recieve this offer.

After the fourth shot Leon begind working with many different doctors of different specialties doing different tests of his intelligence. At first he is entralled by all of this. They see so much progress everyday. After weeks and weeks though Leon becomes jaded. He believes that the doctors are incapable of understanding truly how smart he is. Leon one night decides to hack into the FDA database and see other patientd who have recieved Hormone K. It appears as if there have been 50 or so individuals that have recieved 3 shots of Hormone K. But he is the only one who has recieved 4.

During one of his days eith the doctors a man from the CIA comes in to see Leon. Leon understands the implications of this and does his best underplay his intelligence. A few days later he tells the doctors that he wants to withdrawal from the study. The doctors attempt to argue with Leon but they are unable  to convince Leon. A few days go by and and Leon gets a call from one of the doctors saying there has been adverse affects of the drug, saying that it causes rapid growth followed by immediate collapse and that Leon needs to come in immediately

Leon agrees to do so. Leon hops back on the FDA database and sees no reports of such a claim.

While the doctors wait for Leon to show up he slips into their office and writes them a note telling them not to look for him as well as hacking intonthe police database and putting in a virus that will scramble his license plate shouldnit be caught on any of their cameras. Leon decides it's time to leave and flies to New York.

Leon makes his money by betting on horse racing and then investing into the stock market. He stays in a low key little appartment where he studies languages both modern and ancient.

Leon does his best to avoid going out in public but when he does he is able to deduce every detail about people's lives just based upon the smallest details. This comes in handy as Leon is very easily able to manipulate people in order to get whatever he wants. He is very jaded about the people that surround him. He believes their actions and feelings to be far below him even though he used to do all the very same things.

The emotions that Leon experiences are far more complex than that that the typical human could possibly experience. Leon decides that he needs to create his own languate in order to be able to express his thoughts and feelings. Leon finds this task to be challenging and rewarding. His only goal is to reach "enlightenment" and know everything that there is to possibly know.

One day Leon wakes up and sees that some of his stocks have dropped. This is startling. It doesn't make any sense. He sees that the first letters of his stocks that dropped spell out something: "Leon Greco." Suddenly it occurs to Leon that there must be someone else who recieved the Hromone K treatment and erased their information from the FDA database. What Leon did not know was wheather this individual was a friend or an enemy. Leon quickly leaves New York and heads to memphis where he does research on this individual. After many a few days and nights of work he is able to locate Rynolds in Philadelphia. Rynolds goals and ideas seem more directed towards altruism and protecting and improving the planet which is directly opposed to the selfish goals that Leon has.

Leon needs to go to Philadelphia to meet Rynolds. Reynolds already inevitably knows where he is and it's best to give Rynolds what it is that he may want. Leon shows up at Rynolds's apartment where the door is open. Rynolds (David Henrie) is standing there waiting for Leon. They discuss everything that they have learned over the past 6 months or so. It is clear that both men admire eachother and wish that they could work together. The longing for someone who can follow your thoughts or even challenge them is endlessly appealing to Leon. Alas their views are so obviously opposed to the others. Rynolds can not do his work to improve the world with Leon's selfish pursuits for enlightenment in his way. They stand their across from eachother seizing one another up. Rynolds is able to share some words with Leon that aide him to reach enlightenment..the problem is that enlightenment kills Leon.

The Girlfriend Hoax

Director: Ezra Edelman

Genre: Sports Documentary

Release Date: August 26 (limited) September 16 (final expansion)

Theater Count: 16 (8/26), 109 (9/2), 334 (9/9), 1,214 (9/16)

MPAA Rating: PG-13 for language.

Runtime: 107 min

Production Budget: $1 million

Plot: An examination of the Manti Te’o scandal from January 2013 that leaves it ambiguous if Te’o himself was involved with the creation of his fake girlfriend. The film is made up of archive footage along with a few talking head interviews with people who knew Te’o along the way.

The first third is dedicated to showcasing Manti Te’o up to his senior year in college. Starting his varsity high school year in 2006 as a freshman, he was on the second-team Hawaii all-state roster as a sophomore. As a junior in high school, he kept racking up awards and as a senior, he lead his school to their first ever state championship in football. He signed to University of Notre Dame in 2009. In his very first game, he tackled Colin Kaepernick for his first collegiate tackle. He played in all 12 games of his freshman season and finished the season with 63 tackles, the third-most tackles ever by a Notre Dame freshman behind Bob Golic (82 in 1975) and Ross Browner (68 in 1973). His sophomore year, he moved from outside to inside linebacker and on September 25, 2010, he had 21 total tackles against Stanford, which was a career high for Te’o. His junior year, he led the Fighting Irish again in tackles.

Te’o entered his senior year with over 300 career tackles at #8 in history for the Fighting Irish. This year, he became one of the most decorated defensive players in college football history, winning nine prestigious awards along with being the runner up for the Heisman trophy. This season apparently opened with tragedy though as Te’o had mentioned in several interviews that both his grandmother and girlfriend, Lennay Kukua, had died on September 11, 2012. Kekua had been injured in a car accident, and in her treatment, was discovered to have leukemia. Te’o refused to miss any games to be with her, citing a promise he made to her to never stop playing. This story picked up traction throughout the entire season, playing an important narrative into his contention for the Heisman Trophy.

Shortly after the 2013 BCS National Championship Game, where the Fighting Irish lost to the Crimson Tide 42-14, Timothy Burke and Jack Dickey of Deadspin received a tip that Kekua’s identity was not what it seemed. They conducted an investigation and on January 16, published an article that laid out the facts that Kekua did not exist and instead argued that a family friend of Te’o’s, Ronaiah Tuiasosopo, had been involved in hoaxing a relationship with Te’o. The images of Kekua frequently bandied about on media were instead of a high school friend of Tuiasosopo.

Notre Dame had a press conference about the article, where athletic director Jack Swarbrick said they had hired private investigators to uncover who hoaxed Te’o, while also saying that their relationship was exclusively online only. However, Te’o had mentioned in other interviews earlier in the season that he had met Kekua at a football game and she had visited his family with him in Hawaii. Te’o apparently informed Notre Dame on December 26 of the hoax, having received a phone call ten days earlier from the woman who he thought was Kekua, saying she was still alive. However, in four separate interviews after December 6, Te’o mentioned Kekua’s death as a motivator for him to keep playing football.

Te’o took an interview on January 18 on ESPN with Jeremy Schaap defending his innocence. Te’o confessed that he had lied about the not-online aspect of the relationship because of the idea that no one would want to buy they were as close as they were without formally meeting. However, after the December 6 phone call, he continued to talk about her because he thought the call could’ve been a prank. Tuiasosopo represented himself as the cousin of Lennay Kekua and had communicated with Te’o online over the last several years and met once in person at the 2012 Notre Dame/USC game. Te’o revealed that after the Deadspin article broke, Tuiasosopo had confessed to being the originator of the hoax.

Six days later, Te’o appeared on Katie to play three voicemails left by Kekua, where he argued that the voicemail sounded like a girl. A couple weeks later, Tuiasosopo appeared on Dr. Phil, confessing to the hoax, and claiming he was in love with Te’o, pretending he was Kekua so that way he could be with him. He recreated the Kekua voice behind a room divider. However, this contradicted an earlier report that Tuiasosopo’s relatives had said Kekua’s voice belonged to his female cousin. Furthermore, Reagan Maui’a, at the time Fullback for the Arizona Cardinals, claimed he had met Kekua twice in person, being introduced by Tuiasosopo (who had claimed to be his cousin).

The scandal was quickly forgotten after this, as the news cycle moved on. There are no real answers to whether Tuiasosopo and Te’o were telling the truth during the damage control. Te’o went on to be drafted in the second round, 38th overall to the San Diego Chargers. While he played football for four seasons (moving onto the New Orleans Saints for two seasons), he never once reached the relevancy or notoriety as he did during his 2012 college football season and the girlfriend hoax. Today, he is an unsigned free agent, with the hoax rarely being brought up anymore.

Marshall and Abigail are estranged as Marshall was busy with work during her formidable years. Little do they know, the plane is about to be hijacked by terrorists. Marshall attempts to strike a conversation with his daughter but she’d rather watch a movie. About halfway into the flight, the terrorists take control of the plane, threatening to kill everyone unless they get control of the plane. The pilot locks the cockpit door just in time. Although terrified, Abigail asks Marshall if he bought a gun with him as Marshall admits it’s probably with the cargo. The two decide to work together to stop the terrorists although Marshall is reluctant to let his daughter be hurt.

As a panicking businessman argues with one of the terrorists, the two take the chance to sneak into the cargo door but runs into the armed terrorist. Marshall attempts to halt the terrorist by throwing shaving cream into his eyes as the two get into a fistfight which Marshall loses until Abigail sneak attacks the terrorist. Unfortunately, the terrorist manages to click the button to open the hatch, causing Abigail and Marshall to tumble as the terrorist falls below the clouds as the two manage to crawl back on the plane.

The two manage to find Marshall’s gun but soon fight more of the terrorists in a gun fight but succeed. Marshall and Abigail head back up but are surrounded and Marshall is out of bullets. The two surrender but Abigail throws scalding coffee at them as Marshall pistol whips them unconscious, as the passengers cheer and even the pilot, as he says they’re ten minutes from landing, Marshall says the businessman will even have time for his meeting but as the businessman thanks them, he pulls out a gun and is revealed to be the true mastermind as he plans to cause the plane to crash into the happiest place in America: Disneyland in retaliation for America supporting a civil war in his homeland.

The businessman takes control of the plane and forces the pilot to fly near Disneyland whilst revealing the bombs he has hidden on the plane. Abigail heats the beeping over them to realize the bombs are outside the plane as Marshall goes outside to disarm them barely holding on. Seeing this, the businessman shoots the pilot and attempts to shake Marshall off but the pilot in his last seconds hold off the businessman as Marshall returns as the businessman kills the pilot and injured Marshall during their fight, Marshall puts on the seatbelt sign scraps himself in as do the passengers as he spins the plane around to kill the businessman.

Abigail rushes to her father and attempts to help him but Marshall insists she land the plane as he is too weak and encourages his daughter and admits he believes in her and loves her dearly whilst apologizing for not being there. Abigail attempts to land the plane but is pursued by the Air Force who fire missiles at them as Marshall takes control of the radio to tell them they killed the terrorists causing them to stop throwing missiles and help Abigail make a rough landing at the beach.

A few days later, Abigail and Marshall are hailed as national heroes as the two share tearful goodbye as Abigail heads to college as Marshall promises to be more present.

Plot Summary: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4e-wuyjgDPQ

Plot:

The film opens with a flythrough a poorly animated town, soaked with beautifully plain greenery. After a stunning five full minutes of opening credits, we finally arrive at the school, where the kids are playing in the playground. It’s Good Friday, and everyone is excited for Easter. Ricky introduces the audience to all of his friends, confusing Good Friday for Black Friday. Through the rap, he explains that he gave up rapping for lent and he hopes was super good at it, since the Easter Bunny won’t give him good eggs this year if he didn’t follow the rules (“The Best Black Friday Imaginable”).

In Ms. Parmington’s class, the kids discuss the upcoming Easter. Smithy, Ricky’s best friend, wants to catch the Easter Bunny. After all, he’s heard the Easter Bunny likes sandwiches and his mom makes the best sandwiches. The bullies of the school, Todd, Tug and Zeke, make fun of Smithy. What does he know about the Easter Bunny? After all, everyone knows the Easter Bunny isn’t real! The bullies make fun of him through a very silly song about how the Easter Bunny is a lie by the government (“The Only Point of Easter is Jesus”).

Nicole and Lenee enter the room, holding hands. Ricky congratulates them for recently becoming a couple and they smile, being happy lesbians. Lenee notices Smithy is crying, declaring that the Easter Bunny is the only reason he cares about anything this year. Nicole begins singing a song in defense of Smithy and his Easter hopes (“The Power of Belief”). However, the kids look around and wonder where their teacher is. That’s when Ricky remembers it’s Good Friday and as such, there was no school today. They all leave the classroom.

Meanwhile, at the spa, the principal sits, getting cucumbers put on her eyes. Ms. Parmington walks up and sits down next to the principal. Parmington mentions she is looking forward to Easter since Easter is the one Sunday of the year when she doesn’t grade papers. The principal tells her to shut up since she is trying to relax and talking about school ruins everything. They sit down and get massaged for five minutes as royalty-free music plays in the background.

On their way home from school, Todd, Tug and Zeke see the Easter Bunny hopping along the road. Zeke is in shock that the Easter Bunny exists but Todd and Tug say there’s no way they can let Smitty be proved right. They get on their bikes and chase the Easter Bunny! The Easter Bunny keeps hopping down the nondescript road until he takes a sudden left turn, down into a ditch! Todd, Tug and Zeke are unable to stray from the path, and they too fall down into a ditch.

The next day, everyone is sad that the bullies are presumed dead. Great Grandma gives a completely incomprehensible speech at their joint funeral and Eric swears that if it’s the last thing he’ll do, Easter will be bigger than ever. After all, everyone knows the ditch belongs to the Easter Bunny and the Easter Bunny must’ve brutally murdered the children. Eric believes that if they praise the Easter Bunny and bow down to him, the children will be given back to them. Ricky says he has a bad feeling about this as the movie fades to black, as if to cue a commercial break.

ONE YEAR LATER. Rapsittie Street has become an apocalyptic wasteland. Eric rules, having been the one rich guy left. Ricky and Smithy walk around sad, seeing everyone getting ready for a sacrifice to the Easter Bunny, no one having moved on from the bullies’s deaths. Everyone works for Eric in a chocolate bunny factory, making idols in the shape of the Easter Bunny. Ricky, Smithy, Lenee and Nicole decide to go look for the bullies, since everyone knows where the Easter Bunny lives. However, on their way, Eric summons to them to his office, and vaguely threatens them in a shot-by-shot recreation of the Bunny Song from VeggieTales: Rack, Shack and Benny with somehow worse animation (“The Bunny Song”).

(Imagine Eric as Mr. Nezzer; Ms. Parmington, Peg, Jenna and Nana as the sexy asparaguses; Ricky, Smithy, Lenee and Nicole as Bob, Larry and Junior).

By the time Eric finishes singing though, the four Rapsittie Street kids have escaped. They now walk down the road towards the ditch, but it’ll take a while since the bikes were outlawed in the Great Easter Splurge. As they walk forward in their dull walk cycle Lenee sings about how Nicole is the best kid in the world (“Nicole is a Hot Properly”) (Yes, I mean Properly not Property, the songwriter had a typo in the lyrics he sent in and Jodi Benson just went with it). They make it to the ditch, and Smithy looks down terrified. Ricky pushes him in and the other three jump in behind Smithy.

In the ditch, Tug, Todd and Zeke bow down to the Easter Bunny. For the past year, they’ve been his adopted children, loving the Easter Bunny more than anyone else in their lives. They ask the Easter Bunny if he can turn them into bunnies as well. They wanna be closer to their new father figure (“New Dad”). However, the Easter Bunny says they have one final test and suddenly Smithy, Ricky, Lenee and Nicole fall into the ditch. The Easter Bunny tells the bullies they need to apologize to their old enemies before they truly transcend into understand what it means to be good. The bullies give an apology through song (“We’re Sorry That We’ve Been Hogging The Songs In This Movie (Among Other Things)”) and the kids accept their apology. The Easter Bunny turns the bullies into feral bunnies as they promptly exit the movie, despite being the most important characters in it up to this point. Ricky asks the Easter Bunny if he can help the town all get along. The Easter Bunny wags his tail and teleports them all to the factory, where all the town members are statically standing around.

The Easter Bunny says he can help the whole town go somewhere new, since after this special ends, the world of Rapsittie Street may disappear forever in the realms of cancellation. No one knows what he’s talking about but Ricky excitingly says “Yes, Mr. Bunny, that sounds super funny. What could be better on Easter than you wagging your keester!” The Bunny wags his tail and the world around them dissolves magically, transporting them to a new realm. The scene ends with ("Tell the Kids to Fuck Off!"), a song warning them about the remainder of the film.

They arrive outside a live action town, and they notice that the adults look human, but the kids are still in their stinted animation. Eric looks around and notices that pieces of his wife, Peg, are left in bloody chunks all over the place. Her decapitated head apologizes to Eric, but he says it happens. "Multidimensional jumps are a fucking cunty bitch." As Peg dies, everyone seems disaffected, but Nicole begins to cry. Eric tells her to shut the fuck up.

The CGI baby Chiya (Olmos) soon appears before the family, welcoming them to the land of a billion surprises. He takes them on a tour of the neighborhood as they adjust to their new bodies, Great Grandma noticing her smaller breasts and remarking that gender is fluid. They soon arrive at a house where they can stay. The house is run by Parzival from Ready Player One and Gavin Venchell from the Spark movies. As they are introduced, Parzival is giving Venchell a blowjob, and he promises that he will eat his ass next.

The two hosts welcome the guests, and they take them up to their room upstairs. Many of their beds are covered in semen and BDSM toys. Parzival remarks that Detective Detective sometimes comes by and they engage in puppy play together. Meanwhile, the Principal and Ms. Parington decide that they are unhappy, as their vacation and spa plans were ruined. They decide to kill a bitch to let out their anger. They see a woman on the street walk by (Thompson) cursing into her phone.

The teachers run outside, finding out that her name is Samantha Gerard. They sing a song about how Samantha wants to kill someone named Richard Kimble (Hemsworth), and they sing a trio about the violent ways he could die, going into graphic detail. (“Let’s Kill Richard Kimble (And Fuck his Corpse)”) Another agent, Carly (Miranda Cosgrove) joins in the song and wants to help out. Samantha begins to kiss her.

Meanwhile, Nicole is sad about losing her mom, but Mark acts like nothing happened. He even puts her severed pieces in a mold, and that mold into a freezer. Great Grandma tries to convince Eric to grieve, but he accepts it like nothing happened. She mutters to herself in a gibberish, rap like style. The doorbell rings, and Nicole goes to get it. To her surprise, it’s 1988 Democratic Convention Candidate Gary Hart (Jackman) He is alt right now and hates the gays, but he tells Nicole that he will help her grieve her mom’s death. They just need to kidnap Parzival and Venchell.

Venchell and Parzival are currently talking with one another, and we find out that Parzival is 8.75 months pregnant. Nicole suddenly comes up to them, and they seem friendly. Nicole clearly seems conflicted, but she sighs. She tosses the two into a large bag and throws it out the window. Gary Hart catches it in his truck and begins to drive away. Nicole wonders what she had just done. (“I Made a Big Fucking Mess (And Mom's Still Dead)")

Debbie, on the other hand, sees the rest of the Rapsittie Street Kids derping around the house, bored out of their minds.  She suddenly hears a distorted, anguished scream in the streets. Walking out, he finds Boss Baby Hammer (Chalamet, voiced by Baldwin), who has lost his arms and is now bleeding profusely. Debbie tries to help him up, and BBH is immediately smitten. BBH asks Debbie to take him to the breastfeeder, which is just down the road. Debbie decides to oblige, while the Rapsitie Street Kids aside from Ricky go with her. They are curious to see what this breastfeeder is! ("Titty Time") Ricky, however, decides to hang out with Chiya.

Meanwhile, Parzival and Venchell are taken out of their truck, both fully nude (their private parts covered by handily placed bibles) as Gary Hart’s goons take them out. He goes into a musical number about how he blames computers and gay people for losing the election, outing himself as a Homophobic Luddite. He has a plan for Parzival and Venchell to spread evil and convince the world that homophobia is the way to go, and also since Parzival was made on a computer, that computers are evil too. Jackman explains his plan by singing (“A Big Harted Plan”).

At the end of his song, a man in a fursuit runs past them. His head falls off, and underneath is a man named Richard Kimble (Hemsworth) who asks to hide inside the truck. The Principal, Ms. Parington, Carly, and Samantha Gerard run after him, but Hemsworth hops into the driver’s seat. Gerard reveals that she has telekinetic powers, but instead of using them to catch Kimble, she uses feathers dumped into a nearby dumpster to tickle Hart, Parizval, and Venchell. They all laugh uncontrollably as Kimble gets away.

Suddenly, Gerard finds four motorcycles randomly in the alley way, and they go after them. An epic chase occurs, where the four women ride on bikes after the truck. A lot of people get killed in the road rage, a few falling into piles of bloody pulp and others becoming completely distorted. ("Road Head") The chase goes on for 10 minutes. Ms. Parington realizes the collateral damage they had caused and begins to feel guilty, and she arranges for a peace with Kimble. They all agree. The townspeople quickly forgive her for her rampage, even the cops.

However, the Principal and Ms. Parington glitch out slowly, morphing uncannily into their CGI forms. This is happening to all of the Rapsittie Street Kids and Adults. Hart, still in the alley, explains this in song (“Bye Bye, Bitches”): Parzival and the Rapsittie citizens will die if they don’t return to their home before midnight. Their bodies are not equipped to be in this world. Hart also realizes that he completely forgot to brainwash Venchell and Parzival. He uses a hypnotic dildo to take care of it.

Chiya and Ricky hang out, drinking juice boxes and making up raps together. Ricky glitches out a bit, but Chiya also knows the rule. He knows of a way to get his friends home, and that they will be able to make it out safely. All they have to do is make sure that they get to the Breastfeeder at 11:45pm, and not a minute later. The Breastfeeder seems like a mythical creature, and Ricky is intrigued, making up a rap about Women’s Bodily Autonomy. (“Abortion is My Friend”)

Meanwhile, Debbie is carrying Boss Baby Hammer to the Breastfeeder, and she is joined by Bob and Nana. Nana is hot, so she decides to take off her shirt and walk around, breasts hanging out. BBH’s eyes widen, but Debbie slaps him. “Wrong breastfeeder, baby!” They all begin to bond, but the adults remark to one another that if bad things happen, they may need to resort to their fatal plan. Indeed, we get news footage of Parzival and Venchell shooting people and spreading disease across the world, causing chaos across this universe and being utterly awful people.

Kimble, Gerard, Carly and all of the Rapsittie Street Crew, carrying Peg’s remains, all crowd around the town hall, watching as their city gets more and more obliterated by every shot. Parzival and Venchell have lost control thanks to Hart, while news reports are coming in that Hart will kill the two and bring world peace. Thus, he is likely to win the next election. They all agree that they need to go to DC and stop Hart, but BBH worries about the Breastfeeder, as does Chiya. Ricky tells everyone to go for it, rapping about how nothing matters and we all die anyway (“Ricky’s Rap”). Nicole of all people talks sense into him, and she leads the group In singing.

“I know….you see….some day the world will change for me, and be so wonderful.”

They all slowly start singing the theme song to iCarly, wile Carly, Bob, Nana, and Debbie begin to levitate in the air. Peg, her frozen yet rotting remains rolling towards everyone, joins the levitation. As the theme song comes to a close, the five gravitate towards one another, blinding the screen with light. The remaining Rapsittie crew is delighted to see that the five have become a disgusting blob that is a conglomeration of all of their souls in a lumpy, bloody mess.

“To Washington!” it cries out in a horrific, distorted voice.

The Rapsittie crew rides to Washington, DC on the back of the ‘iBlob’, while Boss Baby Hammer’s legs start to glow. Suddenly, they are becoming normal length. Ricky is confused, but Boss Baby Hammer knows that Debbie can no longer care for him, so he must become his true form, knowing how to defeat Parzival and Venchell. Also, everyone should now call him “Boss Baby Chalamet” (He is now voiced by Timmy Tim himself)

Washington DC has become a warzone, with giant Parzival and Venchell robots vaporizing people! The heroes are stunned, but Kimble and Gerard run off to try and find Gary Hart. They run on foot, making up their differences in song (“Sorry About That”) while they finally find Hart (their song cuts into a reprise of “A Whole Harted Plan”) and they get into a vicious, bloody fight. Parzivall and Venchell, meanwhile, do not want to hurt people, but Hart forces them to still. Suddenly, they are about to step on the Rapsittie crew!

Great Grandma begins to panic, but Eric comforts her. They look at each other longingly. Suddenly, Boss Baby Chalamet looks at the two, and Sufjan Stevens appears to sing softly in a cameo appearance. Parzival and Venchell exit their bots and look at Boss Baby Chalamet, who now resembles Chalamet in every facet. In a five minute take, the heroes in the background, the three stare each other down while engaging in a hand job three-way.

Upon their climax, they are freed from Hart’s control, and a huge sweep of magic fills the air, brightening the sky. Hart is also readily defeated, and the iBlob comes and violently eats Gary Hart, eating him in a bloody pulp. Chiya, having been asleep the whole time, remarks that while they saved the world, they only have 15 minutes to get to the breastfeeder. The iBlob throws them all in the air, disintegrating after throwing all of them.

The heroes suddenly arrive at the home of the Breastfeeder (We don’t see their face, just two gigantic breasts the size of minivans. They may not even have a face.) Ricky sees a sign that tells them to massage the nipples and they will go home. Chiya says that it has been a fun adventure, but they need to go. A group of Angels, one of whom looks suspiciously like Keanu Reeves in The Matrix, comes down from heaven to sing ("goodbye song”) to their world. However, Ms. Parmington says that they still have 15 minutes to kill in this world. Eric and Great Grandma look at each other flirtatiously, eyeing a nearby shed.

Cut to the two of them having wild, intense, and explicit intercourse, Eric topping Great Grandma. They slowly start to turn into their animated selves again, and blocky semen comes out of Eric (the blocky animation keeps it from being NC-17). The semen forms small, imperfectly circular discs that fall towards the screen. Each disc lists a credit on the film, set to this song (but Mark Hamill says ‘Easter’ over every mention of Christmas):

We open on four friends going to a Christmas party in the bustle of New York City: the scholarly and overachiever Heather (Fulton), quirky and artistic Sophia (Madden), cultural snob Benny (Lonsdale), and the hip, dashing Noah (Lawther). Heather, Sophie, and Benny had been inseparable best friends since kindergarten, having grown up near Buffalo, NY. All four attend NYU.

Noah is Heather’s boyfriend of two months, and since his family is very sparse and does nothing for the holidays, Heather offers him to come to her family’s. Sophia and Benny are startled at her initiating the meet the parents phase so early, but Heather wants him to be with family. After a night out partying with a bit more funny banter, Heather is distraught that a computer accident deleted their train tickets by mistake. Though the definitely-not-Amtrak company gave them a generous refund and several vouchers, Noah offers to start up a road trip to get to their home. They accept, abruptly leaving the station.

During the road trip, all seems well in the 6 hour drive. As they keep going at night, however, a massive snow storm starts to brew. Sophia calls her parents, who are already finding them a hotel room to stay nearby. As Sophia tries to give details, a hilariously over the top car pile up causes them to almost get killed. They breathe a sigh of relief as they’re only pushed lightly into the woods. Heather turns on the car light to see a squirrel with antlers and snarling teeth jump scare them. Noah haphazardly drives further into the wooded areas, freaking out hysterically as Heather is dumbfounded at his foolish panic reaction.

However, they see a road nearby and get on it. Their car is in pretty bad shape, however. Benny asks as passer-by if they can help, as does Sophia. However, only once Heather asks do they get help. A kindly Caucasian man (Duhmael), introducing himself as Chris, gets them out of the car and offers them a ride into town. They accept, not having other options. Their hometown, indeed, looks like a real life version of a Christmas city trainset decoration, with bright colors and joyous cheer around the town. “Welcome to Tinsel Ridge,” Chris tells them.

Sophia begins to geek out, but Benny is less than enthused, remarking that he’s not all that into Christmas. Heather and Noah simply cuddle one another, waiting in the cold. Chris, seeing the sun rise, tells them that the car will be ready by dinnertime. They should enjoy the city and all it has to offer in the meanwhile. They don’t get many visitors. The four agree, and we get a montage of them visiting the Christmas-iest town in the world. They are guided by Chris’s wife, Holly. (Banks)

There’s cookie shops, candle shops, a skating rink, and a theater that only shows sequels to big sci-fi movies. It feels exactly like Christmas. Sophia, Heather, and Noah are delighted, but Benny scoffs at the materialistic nature of the holiday themed town. Holly remarks that they haven’t seen anything yet, as there’s a secret elevator under the bell tower that reveals a secret mall where 90% of the town’s gifts come from. It’s 15 stories deep and each floor spans the entire town. By this point, even Sophia is slightly off put.

As they spend the day together, Noah is nervous about meeting Heather’s family, but she reassures her. Their car is soon ready, however, and it looks like they will be good to go. Chris and Holly soon let slip that they are having a community wide banquet that night, and they are invited to come. The friends, led by Noah, decide to accept the offer, as they’d have to get dinner on the road anyway. Benny is simply waiting for the moment when he realizes the town isn’t what it seems. They’re all robots? Vampires? Cult members? Shit, who knows.

The banquet is very fun, but the friends are anxious to leave. Sophia is also annoyed that there is no salt for the food. They meet more local characters, like Belinda (Sykes), who goes around the different (white) women in the room and acting like the token black friend every Hallmark heroine has, and the kindly mayor of the town, Nicholas Bell (Goodman). At this point, Benny confirms they’re definitely a cult. Bell gives them a little gift to see them on their way, remarking that Tinsel Ridge is hopefully the town of the future, a world where tradition is king and simple charity is all we need. He goes on rambling as the friends try to leave. Everyone also eats several cookies, which are supposedly made with a rare, truly special sugar.

Noah starts the car and Heather turns around, seeing her friends unease. She calls her parents, who are humorously excited. However, Noah wants to stay a bit longer, and Heather is baffled and annoyed. He begins to talk a bit, refusing to start driving. “At least turn on the fucking heat,” Benny mumbles. Noah snaps at Benny for having been a killjoy the whole damn trip. Heather and Noah begin to fight, which Benny lightly enjoys. Noah thinks that people are happy here, so it makes sense to stay. Her family will understand. However, Sophia notices people going home in an almost lockstep fashion. They are confused and baffled, but Noah still won’t budge the car. Noah soon starts to cave and puts the car in drive. However, they are blocked by a snowmobile rushing by. There are several of them in fact. We get a glimpse of them going into different houses…

In one shot, we see someone from each snowmobile go into a different house, the camera panning between them. One kills a man, one has sex with someone, one steals a gigantic wreath, the other smashes a cake, and the other. It is extremely violent. All of them place different scripts on their porches. Heather runs out to pick one up to investigate. “DEAD HUSBAND. NEW ONE WILL ARRIVE ON CHRISTMAS EVE. GRIEVE. FALL IN LOVE THEN. MAINTAIN THE SCRIPT, OR ELSE.” Heather hilariously looks horrified. She runs to the car to start it. As they bolt out of town, they see more of the antlered animals and crash their car yet again.

Once again, they are saved by a new man. However, Chris was killed during a fatal Christmas tree farming accident overnight, despite the fact that they saw him enter his home. They realize he must have been the guy they killed. The car has to be fixed again, and Heather gets a call from her parents. It’s December 23rd, and the deal was that she could spend more time with her friends if she was home by Christmas Eve. Heather tries to explain, but she gets distracted. A cake decorating contest begins to consume her thoughts violently, casting horrific subliminal messages in her head. She drops the phone and walks toward it.

Sophia decides to call the police of Tinsel Ridge to report the incident. However, once she explains the situation, they are completely calm. “Oh, those are just the directors. Nothing to worry about there. Goodbye, and Merry Christmas!” The police hang up. Annoyed, Sophia calls the police of a nearby town. One she tells them about Tinsel Ridge, the police reporter becomes scared shitless. “Nope. No way. We do not fuck with them in December. Or November. October….pretty much every month honestly. Get out. Run.” Benny remarks that he absolutely knew it. He can call them an uber to the nearest Starwood Inn and Suites a few exits over. However, no ubers or taxis go to the area.

Through the day, we see Nicholas Bell evaluating new scripts and checking on the special roles, interacting with them in the same single shot take in the format of the snowmobile sequence. Everyone in town seems to love him.

Heather and Noah continue to enjoy the day, struggling in bonding as a couple (Noah seems less romantically inclined) as they watch the baking competition. One person had their cake stolen, but still gets to participate by believing in themself. Holly even offers them to join in and let Heather be her kitchen helper. Heather notices no salt among the ingredients, and she wonders why. Still, she seems delighted. Holly is lightly upset about losing her husband but shakes it off. It’s time to make cookies! Holly begins to make batter, feeling the messaging in her head getting louder as Holly pours in the sugar. Holly smiles ridiculously and distractedly, cooking as she chops up her hand in the blender and gets blood all over the batter. Holly asks Heather to try some of it, the spoonful having a noticeable chunk in her finger. Heather does, but vomits into the mix. “Even better. Let me try that!” Holly eats the vomit and blood mixed in with the batter. Holly remains steadfast, simply wrapping her hand in some Rudolph band-aids. She even wins the competition! However, she passes out due to blood loss and lands face first into the blender. No one reacts, but Heather screams in horror. Noah laughs hysterically, much to Heather’s anger. "Everyone's fine! Don't be such a baby," Noah snarks to Heather. Heather begins to doubt that Noah really does seem to be acting more self centered.

By this point, even Heather is scared of the Town, but Noah seems to be under the spell. Heather runs into the mega mall downstairs, each floor decorated in a ridiculous, candy colored, over the top way. Running into somewhere to hide, panicking, she hears a lot of loud noises. She eventually finds a large warehouse next to the mall where the town’s supplies are manufactured by machines that move ridiculously fast. Moreover, she notices a machine where the sugar is manufactured, several people surround it. Heather’s parents call her again, but she pushes them away.

That night feels like Déjà vu, and Noah still will not get out of the town. Even as he is slowly convinced, we see more and more of the antlered animals appear, all of various species from foxes to raccoons, surrounding the street. Noah steps out of the car, going to investigate the animals. He admits that he saw this as a fascinating opportunity to explore Christmas from a new angle, a microcosm of the holiday and our relation to it as a whole. He wanted to stay and survey them. The risks are present, but his friends are being cowardly, and everyone seems happy despite the risks. It is something they should simply adapt to. They will obviously leave once things get deadly, but….

…the antlered animals attack Noah violently, and he gets stabbed and pierced with antlers repeatedly. A raccoon wanders away with his eyeballs on its antlers. Heather screams and remarks that they need to run now. None of them are good drivers, however. Sophia hastily takes the car and rams through the mutated animals, eager to get out of town. However, the snowmobiles are also arriving, trapping her in a net of Christmas lights full of bombs inside each bulb. They surround the car and get into a hilariously twisted Mexican standoff. One snowmobile patrol officer throws scripts at them in a petty manner.

Heather and Benny get out, but Sophia’s foot get stuck on a bulb knot, but she can get it out easily. One of the guards sneezes and accidentally pressed the trigger, blowing the car – and Sophia – to bits.

They chuckle, remarking that accidents happen. Heather is about to go berserk, but the Mayor arrives and calms the scene, shoving candy cane like devices down the throats of the two survivors.  They cause the two to pass out and are taken away by Bell. (Heather drops her phone as we hear the voice of her parents once again, seeming furious but soon scared.)

Bell reveals that this town was built on a rare chemical, one that may be the key to human immortality. Mixed in to the sugar used with the cookies and baked goods that sustain the townspeople, it is the key to eternal life and the inability to feel pain or negative emotion. Hence Holly's cooking incident and still smiling. Bell Himself has designed several machines and just needs people to run the town. With his immortality, an army of “elves”, and a few genetic experiments of merging reindeer DNA with local wildlife (that part is still a work in progress)….he is going to become a real Santa Claus. “He made it look so easy, and wit the right connections, it was.”

Heather asks why he wanted to kill people and set up drama. Not only did Nicholas enjoy watching it, but he needed to test that despite trauma, the jolliness would work perfectly. Soon, all the world will feel no pain and he will take over the Earth.

Heather and Benny realize that the town is a fascist dictatorship sent on imposing a will on the world through Christmas. Nicholas realizes that Benny had been negative most of the trip, placing a small present in his hands. He opens it, and a laser like device shoots out. It adjusts his bone structure and forces him to smile constantly. He screams in agonizing pain. “Well your choice is simple. Stay here and embrace the Christmas magic, or die trying to escape. We’ll make your stay perfectly happy. You won’t miss a thing.”

Heather and Benny are left alone to make their decision. Heather is completely shaken, having lost her boyfriend and best friend, and knowing that her parents will be so mad at her for missing Christmas Eve. She tries to call them for help, but they don’t answer. Benny, unsurprised at another awful holiday, remarks that he hates Christmas because everyone stresses togetherness, and his extended family hasn’t spoken to him since he came out. Moreover, it just caused him to see how shallow a lot of people were when it came to Christmas. He just wished he liked it more than he did as a kid. They comfort one another, realizing the mess of hwo people can take the holiday. She remarks that if they can make it out of this town together, they will get that chance again. Running out of the room as Bell reappears, they hide away into the multistory mall, stocking up on gadgets and appliances to use as weapons. There are no guns, so they have to improvise.

Upon getting out and stocking up, the townspeople, all ridiculously smiling, surround them. Heather feels bad about killing them, but a badly and graphically wounded Holly, Chris, Sophia, and Noah appear, but are still on two feet and have their body parts fused together reasonably well. Belinda prepares to help Bell prepare for the town to strike at the two traitors who just don’t see the Christmas magic anymore. Everyone, however, seems very happy and jolly, almost excited to kill. Seeing that the four are alive, Heather realizes that the sugar has made the town immortal. The sugar also has magnetic properties, allowing the body to become put back together after its mutilation. She thus feels less bad about “killing” them and can get out easily.

In a wild fight scene, Heather and Benny fight off the townspeople using the appliances they found, from a toaster shooting knives into people and shoving someone's face into a waffle maker. They both have a ridiculously enjoyable time, but are also able to get a stitched-up Sophia and Noah back into the car. They are relieved to see that the others are okay on account of having eaten the cookies of immortality, but they remark that they have to escape the town once and for all during the hectic action sequence. Heather is still covered in blood and feels guilty, but remarks that she had to do what was necessary. Holly and Chris bail on the fight, sharing an awkward romantic moment as their bodily limbs keep falling apart, and the gashy hole on Holly's head makes it hard for Chris to know where to kiss her. However, Chris remarks that he's now Austin, a charming out of towner. He reminds Holly to follow the script, but both are giggling and happy.

As they are able to leave, powering through the antlered creatures, all seems well. However, they are soon shot at from a jet above. A bunch of dead antlered animals dangle from the get, which is piloted by Mayor Bell. "Maybe we don't need the reindeer. I just need to kill you all. I won't let you take my dream away from me!" Noah and Sophia are still not feeling...quite right, but Heather uses the carcasses as a ladder to get to Mayor Bell. Belinda, on the helicopter with him and wearing a full elf costume, throws random things at Heather and Benny while drinking a hot chocolate.  Heather shakes the ladder and causes Belinda to hurl the hot chocolate onto her face, scalding her. She falls off and gets hit by a truck midair. Benny screams.

Heather is about to confront Mayor Bell, who wants to slowly force the world into Christmas spirit, but Heather remarks that you can't force people to be happy. You need to listen to them and trust them. Heather also realizes that Bell isn't going to die, so she simply distracts him by starting a caroling session. They get so caught up in singing together that they crash into a tree. Heather lands in her car just in time, a bit shaken but somehow alive. They realize that it is crack of dawn on Christmas Eve, but that they still need to take care of their friends. They run to a nearby hospital once they get to Buffalo. Sophia and Noah receive shockingly quick surgeries. Benny is confused, but Heather reminds him that they crossed to Niagra Falls in Ontario. Just for the surgery. They all laugh.

The four friends all enjoy Christmas with Heather's family, and it seems like all was well again. They had a twisted, hilarious story to tell, but also maybe an immortal cult to deal with. Noah eats some salted potatoes happily, and enjoys them a lot. However...he soon explodes in a bloody mess. Everyone in her family screams, and Heather stands flabbergasted and devastated. However, he looks at the blood drenched salt container, and how the salt is making the blood boil. She's in tears, but her eyes widen as her face is covered in blood. She stares into the camera.

"Sweet and salty. Two opposites that do not get along. Mom....can we drive a bit east once Christmas is over?"

Spoiler

We open on a shot of still waters as the sun rises. A small fishing boat slowly comes into distance, as we begin to hear some piano melodies. Two men on the boat, Noah (Boseman) and Harper (Blair), look out to the ocean and begin to lay down a net. Both share friendly glances at one another, but no words are spoken. Cutting to sometime later, a large net of fish is laid out on the dock of a small island. Noah yells out at a feral cat trying to take one of the fish. He chuckles.

The film moves further inland to the island, marked by a sign.

WELCOME TO PARADISE ISLAND

A SMALL SLICE OF HEAVEN AMIDST THE OCEANIC CLOUDS

POP. 562

Set to Mica Levi’s score, the sign commences a 7-minute dialogue-free montage of life on the island. Several tourists come by to visit, seeing the small shops, restaurants, and natural vistas. Children are attending classes at a small school building, taught by Katrina aka Treen (Thompson), passing by the library in the same building. Treen waves at the librarian, Silas (Means). Meanwhile, a few more cats wander around the school, and the plucky veterinarian, Emily (Caplan) checks in on a few, performing a harried check up right in the street. A few tourists give her funny looks.

At a small town hall, the tours are continuing to pass through, and Mayor George Coffey (Stuhlbarg) and his wife Tabitha (Hunter) greet them. At this point, we see quick glimpses of more of the suburban life on the island, going through several of the similar trials and tribulations most people experience. Several people go boating, while others are cooking, children are playing, and so on. The sun begins to set, and people cook dinner at homes, go to restaurants and bars, while a few even have small cookouts. Treen and Noah arrive at the same home, sharing ambivalent expressions.

As they enter, the rain begins to pour. Treen checks in on her grandmother, Theodosia (Tyson), giving her dinner and some medications. She is in a wheelchair and moves very little. Treen, later, goes for a walk in the rain. Seeing some of the lights from the mainland, she smiles. However, she realizes she is standing on mossy ground, and the rain is lifting up the waters. She quickly moves away, but the shot looking out into the mainland lingers. We then see Noah and Treen together in bed, lying against one another.

PARADISE ISLAND

Treen begins the day on her laptop computer, Noah heading out to the docks to begin fishing, but remarks that they need to address what’s been on their minds once he gets home. Treen, having the day off, remarks that she’ll be here, albeit halfheartedly. Looking out the window, she sees that some of the nearby patches of sidewalk are flooded. She searches for recorded water levels on her computer.

Scurrying towards the town hall, she bumps into Tabitha along the way. She seems rather annoyed. “Look, you were right. Mainland’s pressuring us regarding the rising water levels. My husband kept telling them it was just erosion and natural effects, but I guess you win.” Treen remarks that she’s been trying to tell them for months, rallying to get support from the “mainland” whenever possible. It’s clear this caused tension between her and the government of the city. “The mayor’s going to send out an announcement today. I hope you’re happy.” Tabitha seems agitated but is also holding back tears. She receives a phone call which seems jarring. She takes it, walking away. Treen stands there, feeling a bit confused.

Returning home, she sees Theodosia still asleep. Gently waking her up, she gives her some lunch. As they each, Treen lightly asks her what life would be like if she had to move off this island. Theodosia snickers, remarking that she doesn’t have much time life as it is. Theodosia suggests that Treen simply wants to leave, but Treen brushes it off, slightly defensive. “You have a good life here. Your friends are like family, and Noah’s a good guy… we’ll certainly miss you.” Treen says that she and Noah are starting to want different things than when they first met, and….never mind. Treen brushes herself off and smiles, promising to keep her grandma safe.

Noah soon arrives from home, and Treen tells him about the announcement, which is happening at town hall in an hour. Noah thinks that Treen is trying to use this to avoid their discussion, but Treen snidely remarks that not everything in the world revolves around him. “I don’t want to start another one of these things. I know what you’re gonna say. I feel it too. I just….I don’t feel good about what’s coming next. And it’s bigger than both of us. Just, please let’s get through this night.” Noah agrees, but senses Treen’s prediction. He says nothing.

That night, as the sun is setting, several townspeople congregate over the main stretch of town outside city hall. Treen holds her hand out to hold Noah’s, but she backs away. Their rings are a key focus in the shot. Treen looks to Emily and Silas, who are hanging together. She waves at them. Suddenly, Mayor Coffey comes out, getting the attention of many on the island. He seems solemn, looking to some men in suits beside him, glancing towards a larger boat on the dock of the island.

“This is a decision that I did not want to make….but it is a decision that I must take as the soul who vowed before God to keep you safe…”

Silence. People can begin to predict what will happen next. A silence fills the air, and his words drown out as he speaks. Silas and Emily look to each other in subtle despair and shock, while Treen’s reaction is far more low key. Amidst the crowd reactions and Levi’s sobering score, we hear snippets of his announcement.

“…..5 months.”

“….will be here to assist us.”

“…..I kept trying to tell them. They wouldn’t listen.”

By the end, Coffey can barely continue. He becomes chocked up, completely unable to speak. He promises to “give Paradise Island a proper requiem.” The crowd is speechless. Noah begins to sweat heavily, breathing inconsistently.

Running home, he looks around, panicked about his future. He tries to call his boss and looks at house listings online. Treen tries to calm him down, but Noah is truly scared. “I could lose everything. My job. My home. I….I don’t even care about us anymore.” Treen and Noah solemnly realize that this news is dropping on top of their non-verbal agreement to get a divorce. Treen asks to just get it done after…all this. She at least wants to help make sure Noah is situated. When Noah asks who will help her, Treen defensively retorts that she can make do. Treen sighs.

“I just think that with everything that’s going on….I feel like we’re different people. It’s been said that opposites attract, and I thought that was true. I wanted it to be true. I wanted you. But now, on top of all this. I just, I don’t know what I want. But I think I need to find it on my own.”

Noah halfheartedly admits that he was going to say the same thing. The passion was gone. There’s a bit of tension, but Treen realizes that she hadn’t told Theodosia the news.

Looking at his computer, Noah faintly hears cries from upstairs. Treen tells her grandmother that this wasn’t their fault. Water levels had been rising, and she feared that this day would…..Treen isn’t sure what she should be saying. “I promise I’m going to help you get through this.” Treen goes back downstairs, checking on Noah. She looks at him as she collects a few folders into her backpack.

The sun sets over the island, and we mimic some of the shots in the opening sequence, except the island is far less crowded. A young boy rides on a golf cart through town, handing out a paper that says ONE MONTH BEFORE EVACUATION.

30 DAYS BEFORE

We then cut to a small corral of cats around the island. Emily is trying to gather a few up so they can be sent to shelters before the evacuation. Treen and Silas agree to help her out. As they talk a bit, sharing some gently humorous exchanges, we learn that they go way back, having all gone to school together on the island. Treen awkwardly remarks that she once said that she wanted to get off the island and see the world. Realizing how insensitive that sounds, she covers up by finding some more kittens. Softly comforting them, Emily chuckles. Silas remarks that once they’re done, he could use some help moving books. Treen happily agrees but needs to make sure she has room in her schedule.

Suddenly, a woman appears before them, Claire Nichols (Hannah). She politely introduces herself, remarking that she’s here on behalf of the US Government to oversee and support the final stretch of the evacuation of Paradise Island to ensure that everyone has a safe, comfortable, and hopeful change. Treen greets her, promising to help any way she can. Treen seems abnormally peppy, which Emily and Silas notice. Treen brushes it off, remarking that she simply wants to keep helping. Silas feels that something is off, but Emily teases him, asking if he really wants to turn down help.

At the same time, Harper and Noah are out fishing. A few other men are with him Harper jokes about how his name seemed to fit for the industry. The boss will obviously have to let them go, but he’s trying to get them set up at different companies along the New England shore. Noah feels uncertain, knowing how many of those jobs have gone like that. He also remarks how it feels like Treen’s going to get something far easier. She just…. understood things better. But they wanted different things, and…. Harper relaxes him. “I’m still here for ya. I promise you that.” Noah smiles, and they shake hands. They continue to chatter about indiscriminate topics. Two other fishermen look at them and roll their eyes, muttering a homophobic slur about Harper.

At church the next morning, Treen and Noah sit apart from each other. Harper sits by Noah, and they chatter a bit. Treen sees this and almost feels a wave of guilt blow over her. She tries to ignore it, but can’t help but look. The pastor speaks about the maintenance of hope in these trying times, speaking about how home exists not as an external force, but as something within.

Riding a boat to the more boisterous mainland, Treen takes tabs on all of the boxes. The reality of the situation begins to sink in for Silas, and he feels defeated. Treen tells him that at least the Mainland library was hiring, and they can add his stock. Stopping at the library, Treen suddenly sees a familiar face in the stacks. There’s a man (Golding) looking at a laptop while surrounded by books and notepads. Treen slowly walks toward him. “Dennis?” She asks. Noting the quiet of the library, the excitedly greet each other. Treen tells the other that she spent a lot of time on the island on an online group, and he was one of the members in it. Specifically, she’d sometimes contribute to an online news site.

Dennis informs them that he’s actually covering the evacuation and wants to build a profile on the island for a major newspaper, keeping its memory alive before it’s gone. (He tries not to sound insensitive) Treen only asks why he didn’t tell her first, as she knew the island first hand. Dennis tells her that he wanted it to be a surprise. Treen agrees to let him visit the island and interview some of the locals. He also has some cameras at his brother’s house on the shore, where he is staying. Silas asks if he’s single, remarking that he’s in fact asking for Emily. Emily flips him off, chuckling.

The next day, Silas and Treen set up a small office that Dennis can use in some of the former library space. Treen has to go teach school, it being the final week before the students start attending mainland classes, but she notices that people are starting to move out. She tells Dennis that he should start talking to people soon. Emily volunteers to give him a little tour around the island.

At school, Treen struggles to calm down the class. A lot of them are riled up and can’t focus, their ages ranging from 6 to 13. Treen tries to talk to them about change, and how leaving home behind can be scary. One little girl begins to cry, telling her that she doesn’t want to leave home. Treen comforts her. “As long as we keep close to who we love, and stay true to who we are, then home will always be with us. No matter what. I know this is scary. But we’re here with you. We’re scared too. But you don’t have to be scared alone.” The kids have a muted reaction, causing Treen to sigh. “Well….we won’t get many chances to do this again, so….who wants to play one last marsh tag tournament?” The kids suddenly cheer.

Over music, we get some shots of kids playing and running around over the marshy grounds of Paradise Island. Treen watches over them happily, especially as they wave at nearby ships passing by. Treen sees Claire come by to see the game. Treen asks her if she has been helping them with the move. “The kids are a little upset, but it looks like we’ll be able to get all of them into new, very high-quality homes in a matter of time. I can’t pretend to know how it feels…. but I’m trying the best I can.” Treen thanks her.

20 DAYS BEFORE

We see a few small gatherings as people leave the island once and for all. Some tears are shed, but we also see Treen focusing on helping out people in her fellow community as much as possible. Dennis also takes on a larger role in interviewing people, and we hear their stories and their regrets. Dennis offers a very sympathetic voice. Less than half of the island’s original population, only around 200 people or so remain. As people watch, they seem justifiably somber. Treen makes them a series of care packages and parts them. Emily looks on, remarking that she had never been this close with the community before.

George Coffey makes breakfast for him and his wife, while Coffey remarks that he got a nice house closer to the vineyards. Certainly better than here. Tabitha side eyes him, while George Coffey implies that he’s happy to be off this island, and that there’s so little opportunity here. He’s got connections near NYU and has enough to build a charity case. He only took the job because the island means the world to his family. Tabitha seems ambivalent about this, still thinking it’s bull that they have to leave. This climate change thing was a total myth – why are they paying the price for what may be a fantasy? Others in their town are basically being uprooted. Coffey tells her to relax. At this point, all they can do is take care of themselves. The government officials here will take care of everything.

Noah and Harper, that morning, approach their boss while coming back from a routine fishing trip. He had been struggling to connect with nearby employers, and it becomes clear that neither one of the two friends has a potential career lined up. They try to set up their potential lives on the mainland and fantasize about things together. Harper remarks that it just won’t be the same without… Surely there needs to be something available. He’s spent months looking on his own, but…he can’t give up.

Meanwhile, Treen is helping Dennis go over some of the material, recounting some of her own memories. She launches into a bit of a rambling session on her life on the island, how her parents died in a boating accident during a storm when she was young, and how she stayed with Theodosia ever since. The island felt small, but she always got to go to the mainland when she wanted. Even then…. she couldn’t afford a lot there. But it seemed exciting, energetic. She feels selfish for saying that she wanted more than what the island could give her.

Dennis sees Treen beginning to cry, and he comforts her. “But I have to help you do justice to this story. If this succeeds, I may be able to make a move on this.” Dennis asks her about what she is talking about. Treen is about to speak but holds her tongue. She sees out the window that Noah had arrived home, and Treen goes to greet him, noting that he is down. Dennis is confused, remembering that they had divorced, but Treen tells him that they promised they would help each other as long as they were here together. “In light of everything. I still care. That was never in doubt.”

Treen runs up to Noah, who explains his job situation. Treen tells her soon-to-be-ex husband that she wants to help him find something new, and that he still means the world for her. Noah gets defensive, remarking that she shouldn’t need to save him. He should be able to do this on his own. Treen tries to ease his defenses, promising he’s not ashamed. “Please, I can handle this. I just….I appreciate it. But…I can handle this.” Noah seems ambivalent, but Treen tries to reassure him. Noah moves toward the direction of the island’s main strip, containing a few bars. Treen goes inside, as Theodosia snarks that Noah was always kind of hot headed. Treen tells her now isn’t the best time.

Noah passes by Emily and Silas, who are making flyers and t-shirts to join a march, March for Earth, happening in DC in 10 days. Emily firmly believes that the human activity has caused their home to be lost, but this not a call for vengeance. This is a call to save ourselves, our planet, and to make sure no one has to go through this ever again. A few locals scoff at Emily, mocking her for believing the nonsense she keeps hearing online. Silas defends her. The crowd wanders away, but Claire appears, feeling sympathetic to their cause. The march has several followers online, and she’s offering the two of them a stay at her home during the march. Emily seems truly grateful. As she runs off to do some more planning, Silas remarks that taking care of the planet was something important to his family, but Emily’s folks didn’t believe any of it. She learned a lot about the mainland through the internet and the library, remarking that she was among the worldliest of the island. Theodosia comes up to Emily to take a button, remarking that she hadn’t been to DC in so long. Her granddaughter would love the road trip anyway. Emily smiles, thanking Treen again for the help she provided in trying to save their home.

As Treen is helping a few more individuals in town, Dennis tells her that he’s going out tonight in the nearest town on the shore. There’s some good stuff to do down there, asking Treen if she ever partook. Treen had, but not since she was a teenager. She always wanted to go to the clubs, but could never find anyone to go with. As Treen begins to ramble, Dennis lightly calling her on it, she agrees to spend the night with him.

Dennis and Treen get dinner together at a local restaurant, Dennis remarking that he’s vegetarian. Treen chuckles, having never really gotten a choice in the matter on an island where fish is almost as big a religion as, well, Christianity. She forgot. Her grandmother is deeply religious, so she can’t be out too late, as they go to church together. Dennis asks if she can come, and Treen allows it. They spend a bit more time chatting and drinking, and it’s revealed they spent a lot of time chatting online, for years, even. Treen, a few drinks later, wants to go dancing.

Cut to the fury and blaring lights and sound of the nightclub. Treen had never experienced this, despite being in its backyard all this time. Dennis begins to make flirtatious advances, but Treen respectfully brushes them off, and he obliges. She feels deeply euphoric, and the scene begins to slow down and blur around her. She feels a sense of awe that she rarely had before. “It wasn’t deeply real, but it was new. And I think I needed new. But I can’t let go. I don’t know how. Or worse, I’m going to let go all to easily,” Treen races in her mind as she narrates her inner monologue. She feels faint, rushing outside.

Cut to the near silence of Harper and Noah grabbing a beer outside on the island docks. They keep up their friendly chatter, but Noah seems to freeze up. He asks if they are for sure getting a divorce. Noah nods lightly, unsure of where Harper is going, but smiling at him. After some moments together….they almost lean in to kiss. Before they do, Harper backs away, apologizing in his breath to God. He runs off, apologizing for being a fucking coward to Noah. He goes after him, but Harper locks him out of his home. Harper sits inside, sobbing. His place is surrounded by a few light boxes.

Outside the club, Treen looks at the stars, faintly noticing a few. Seeing the island from afar, she begins to break down crying. Dennis comforts her. The next morning at church, light tension arises as Dennis and Noah formally meet each other for the first time. However, Noah feels more dejected than angry, although the feeling is faint to begin with. As Theodosia intently listens in on the sermon, Treen looks around at the various faces in the pew, Dennis taking notes as the service takes place. Noah, however, suddenly realizes that Harper is not in service.

Quickly moving towards his house, a smaller place by the edge of the island. Treen, Emily, Dennis, and Silas follow him. Noah feels scared and panicked as his house is completely unlocked, and he’s nowhere inside. Noah sees a letter amidst a few small boxes left open, but the house is completely barren. We only see footage of a train boarding outside of town, and among the passengers getting on….Harper. As Noah reads the letter, it’s clear that Harper had vanished without a trace. Noah breaks down crying, more emotional than he had ever been before.

Treen tries to comfort him but says something about wishing she could save him. Noah wishes Treen would stop trying to be the hero, lashing out perhaps unintentionally amidst his despair. She’s been helping Claire and everyone nonstop, and she keeps getting involved where she doesn’t need to. She could have left months ago. Treen calls out Noah for trying to start a fight at this time, and that yes, she’s trying to help, but wat is Noah doing? None yell at each other, but their words sting. Both seem sadder and more disappointed than angry.

The next morning, Claire reports to George and Tabitha Coffey that most of the island is gone, with less than 100 inhabitants left. Many have new careers and homes but…. a few others have been truly reluctant to leave. She feels bad but worries they may need extra persuasion. Claire notices that George shares minimal concern, and Tabitha chews her out for coming in here and bossing people around. How could she know this island better than anyone who lived here? Claire apologizes if she gave that notion, but she truly wants to help any way she can. She just needs to know how.

Days pass, and Treen tries to make the most of her time on the island, helping Dennis finish the story. Emily and Silas also make one last push for action before the march in Washington, while Noah takes relief in finally finding a position as a cook in an eatery about 20 minutes from the mainland port. Treen celebrates his victory, and Noah smiles. It sinks in that they won’t be together, but Noah also realizes Treen had barely talked about her career.

Silas continues to move books into his library, as a few others come in to ask about the march. Silas encourages them to come to the march, also pleased to hear that they want to volunteer to help people move. Smiling, he promises to set something up. Emily, meanwhile, is out in the back, optimistic about the march and excited to set things up. There's a small bit of melancholy in her expressions, but she tries to hide it.

Treen soon confesses that she had taken community college classes online and gotten an associate’s degree in web design, and that she’s been doing freelance work outside her school. Also, with some connections from Dennis, she’ll be able to take work near Boston in a few weeks. Noah is happy for her, but also somewhat demoralized and surprised. Why didn’t she tell him? Treen gets defensive and remarks that she only wanted to do the work on the side, and that she just wanted a bit more income, despite their being well off on the island. Noah, however, admits that he and Harper came close to doing.... things behind her back. They both pause in silence, realizing that this doesn’t change conclusions, and that both were keeping things from the other.

"But we were falling apart, no matter what. Likewise, that's not why I just couldn't stay here." Treen, soon on the verge of tears, admits that she wanted to leave the island with or without the evacuation. She loved her home, but she knew that it no longer could provide what she needed in life. She just wanted something new, but…she felt bad leaving, especially even in wanting to put Theodosia into a home. She had to help everyone and try to cement her friendships just to feel like she wouldn’t be betraying her home. Treen, feeling that Noah may be furious with her but not letting him speak, runs off. "I don't even know if deep down, I'll miss this place. And I hate myself for thinking that." Treen, at this point, begins to sob, running out into the water.

Noah stops her before she steps into the water, grabbing her arm. In this shot, they glimpse at each other, looking to a lit up shore at the purple sunset. They look at each other with ambivalence. Treen tries to slide his arm off, as he coldly tells her, “Treen…this evacuation really was one of the best things to happen to you, was it? Just admit it.” Treen, at this point, begins to feel deeply angry. “I’ve been trying to do my part. I care. I’m going to be okay, but I care. I found something new. I’m going to survive all of this, but not everyone has my luck. They still matter, and I can’t just let them fall to ruin. I’m tired, Noah. I shouldn’t have hid this from you. I’m really sorry. Even as I speak, I feel like I’m…I can’t do this anymore. I feel bad for even *benefiting* from this. I need to go.” Treen walks away.

Noah watches the sunset, slowly sinking into the ground. Going back into the house, she notices that Tree hid a few congratulatory letters on her online degree from a nearby community college and certificates for web development courses. On top of the letters is an album of pictures they took together. They had been together since they were teenagers. Looking through it, Noah soon simply cradles the album in his arms and slumps into the ground.

Dennis begins making the final touches on his article, which Treen comes to visit. He is excited to share it with the world, while asking Treen to present it at the rally on Friday. Treen agrees, but Dennis feels somewhat jittery. She eventually coaxes out of him that the story deal fell through. Treen, instead, remarks that she’s only more determined to put it out but is scared to be the face of the story. Dennis, having found everything, thinks he can tell the story. Treen feels uneasy about this, but Dennis, albeit somewhat unintentionally, downs a savior-esque attitude, acting slightly condescending. This annoys Tree, but he realizes his mistake. However, he still feels an ownership of the story.

As Paradise Island officially closes for tourists, we see that Tabitha and George are beginning to move boxes out of their home. Noah sees this, asking if they need help. They oblige. Noah overhears George making comments about the island under his breath. This catches Noah’s attention. George grew tired of the island, just as he expects Treen to have done so. Noah is about to retort, but Tabitha, lightly (and somewhat dismissively) tells Noah to relax just as he’s barely raising his voice. “This is a tough time for us all.” Noah keeps cleaning up.

10 DAYS LEFT

We cut to the rally in Washington, where thousands are lined up. Dennis and the Paradise Islanders were able to get a slot to speak. Silas arrives late, having too much fun exploring DC and remarking how he needs to get out of the….oops. Too soon. The march moves reasonably, while Silas, Emily, Treen, Noah, Claire, Theodosia, and Dennis are all present. Dennis is reviewing the speech, as is Treen. However, she begins to look toward Noah, and he awkwardly looks back.

They approach one another, and they both apologize, knowing that the stress of everything has affected them, as well as their relationship. They should have been more upfront with how they were feeling, but with all of that, Treen wants to make a special offer for Noah. Emily is busy looking at some of the crowds and taking tabs, while Dennis sees their encounter. He smiles, lightly tearing up.

Emily soon comes up to the stage and sees a large crowd. She gets slightly nervous and begins to lose her cool. However, she remembers the importance of the issue, as well as the support of her friends, and wants to keep moving. “A journalist came to our island about a month ago, working with one of our own inhabitants to create a mosaic of stories of life on the island. Every child to every senior citizen, all careers, races, genders, everything. He wanted to tell our story. But he also realized that….who better to tell our story, then ourselves?” Emily nods to the others, as we get a light montage, set to music, of the islanders speaking about their life on the island, and how hard it will be to say goodbye. It soon ends with Noah. He feels a bit nervous, but Treen cheers him on. He clears his throat.

I was among the most scared to leave the island. I had been a fisherman all my life, and the way the world, the climate has been changing, I felt hopeless for my future. I fear the worst may be yet to come, but in doing so, we must remember that things could be worse in the first place. That we still have things worth fighting for, reason to fight for one another. It’s easy to give into despair. To think that it’s fruitless to help others, let alone ourselves. But it’s how we’ve survived, and it’s how we will continue to survive. I was one of the lucky ones, I fully admit that. But I wasn’t alone. And I want to keep fighting for a better world, no matter what I lose, because we don’t fully know what’s at stake. I will struggle. I will make mistakes. And I will be wronged. But I won’t give up. And I implore you not to either. *Chuckles* The more this goes on, the sillier I sound, shit. *The crowd laughs.*

He goes on a bit longer, as we hear his voice set over the following:

  • The final inhabitants of Paradise Island, feline and human, leave once and for all, assisted by several volunteers.
  • Tabitha and George arrive in their fancy new house, both however feeling pangs of guilt.
  • Treen brings Theodosia into a taxi, and they begin to ride away.
  • A rainstorm covering the now vacant island, otherwise mirroring the shots from the opening.
  • Emily continues to work for an environmental center as a volunteer, looking dejected as she looks to the water.

Noah looks to Katrina, tears in her eyes. Both smile at one another. He ends with, Thank you, Katrina….and goodbye.

Fade to black.

250 DAYS AFTER

The simmering sounds of a restaurant kitchen are heard. Noah now works as a chef at a restaurant an hour south of the main shore that connected Paradise Island. His financial status isn’t amazing, but clearly, he loves being behind the grill. Others in the kitchen keep asking him about his time on Paradise Island, but he doesn’t really like to talk about it. He’s running water to clean out some dishes as others continue to pester him, but he just ignores it over time.

He gets a message on his phone as the water runs, realizing it’s from Harper. He had been living as a bit of a nomad for some time, trying to explore the mainland as much as he could and getting by on people’s couches. He apologizes for disappearing on Noah, remarking that he had a lot of shame he wasn’t ready to deal with. Noah is unsure of what to say, but as they talk, Noah hangs up abruptly, crying once again. He finds Harper on Facebook, seeing his feed and finding that he now has a boyfriend of 6 months. Noah smiles through his tears.

We cut to Treen washing up in her own kitchen. The place is definitely a touch nicer than she has before, but she soon has to run to work. Theodosia is still there, feeling happy about everything. She teases her daughter for the thought of putting her in a home when she’d cause a riot there. They laugh and hug one another as Treen rushes to work at her web development studio. However, Dennis stops her on the way out, and flirting lightly, they kiss.

The job seems really nice, but a few people make a few micro aggressive remarks due to her status. She brushes them off, just as Noah had done. As the day goes by at her workplace, she gets a message from Silas, calling for an emergency. Treen requests the rest of the day off and quickly starts her car, setting the GPS towards Rhode Island.

We quickly see flashes of Emily being taken through a hospital, receiving tests. She’s crying and in pain, but the doctors and nurses are very reassuring. Treen arrives with Dennis, and she finds Silas, Claire, and…Noah. Treen is distracted for a second, but quickly asks Silas what’s going on. Silas tells them that Emily had a pretty bad drug reaction – she’s been taking them more and more lately, and he’s been trying to stay with her all this time. It looks like she’s going to be okay, but she’s heavily shaken.

In a bit, Treen finds Emily, reassuring her that they’re going to be okay. Emily snaps, talking about how she lost her job and has been resorting to drugs to numb the pain of…. losing what she had known. Emily breaks down sobbing, but Treen reassures her. “We’re here now. We’re home. You’re going to be okay. We love you.” She says each sentence calmly and lovingly. After some time, Emily feels like she can breathe again. “I’m going to be okay. Please stay with me. And please…once we’re done, I have something I need to ask of you.

Treen agrees to stay with her.

(From this point on in the movie, there is no dialogue, only Mica Levi’s score)

As the window from the hospital fades, we see the night slowly turn into day. Noah rents a boat that the six will use to take to the waters. They pass through the area where Paradise Island used to be, more flooded than normal, but still standing. It has zero inhabitants at this point. There is a somber look as they pass through, everyone stunned and lightly heartbroken. Treen brings everyone together, even outright hugging Noah.

As they return to shore, Tabitha is surprisingly waiting for them, smiling and holding back tears as she sees many of her friends once again, including Harper. Noah runs to hug him. Tabitha, meanwhile, rushes into their arms, clearly not having seen anyone from her old home in such a long time. She particularly pulls out Emily, giving her a document titled “The Paradise Fund,” making her smile. People begin to walk towards the strip of the city, but Noah and Treen stay behind. They lean on each other as they watch the sunset on the island.

Across the globe, there are tens of millions of climate refugees.

Unchecked climate change may lead to the submergence of coastal cities like New York City by 2100.

Paradise Island was inspired by Tangier Island, VA, whose population has help us create the stories in this film.

We dedicate this story to them.

Day of the Tentacle

Genre: Sci-Fi Comedy/Adventure
Cast: Joe Keery (Bernard), Alycia Debnam-Carey (Laverne), Skyler Gisondo (Hoagie), Kurtwood Smith (Dr. Fred)
Directed By: Evan Goldberg
Written By: Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg
Release Date: October 14th
Theater Count: 3025
Budget: $30 million
MPAA Rating: PG-13 for brief strong language, drug references, and lewd humor

Plot Summary: Adapted from the classic Lucasarts adventure game. The film is done in a very quirky style, reminiscent of Paul, while also having the traditional Rogen/Goldberg raunch humor and jokes, though at a PG-13 level.

In the late 1980s, Purple Tentacle—a mutant monster and lab assistant created by mad scientist Dr. Fred Edison—drinks toxic sludge from a river behind Dr. Fred's laboratory. The sludge causes him to grow a pair of flipper-like arms, develop vastly increased intelligence and a thirst for global domination. Dr. Fred plans to resolve the issue by killing Purple Tentacle and his harmless, friendly brother Green Tentacle, but Green Tentacle sends a plea of help to his old friend, the nerd Bernard Bernoulli. Bernard travels to the Edison family motel with his two housemates, deranged medical student Laverne and slacker rock band roadie Hoagie, and frees the tentacles unaware of what Purple was up to. Purple Tentacle uses trickery to escape and maniacally cackles about resuming his quest to take over the world.

Since Purple Tentacle's plans are flawless and unstoppable, Dr. Fred decides to use his Chron-o-John time machines to send Bernard, Laverne and Hoagie to the day before to turn off his Sludge-o-Matic machine, thereby preventing Purple Tentacle's exposure to the sludge. However, because Dr. Fred used an imitation diamond rather than a real diamond as a power source for the time machine, the Chron-o-Johns breaks down in operation. Laverne is sent 200 years in the future, where humanity has been enslaved and Purple Tentacle rules the world from the Edison mansion, while Hoagie is dropped 200 years in the past, where the motel is being used by the Founding Fathers as a retreat to write the United States Constitution. Bernard is returned to the present. To salvage Dr. Fred's plan, Bernard must acquire a replacement diamond for the time machine, while Hoagie and Laverne must restore power to their respective Chron-o-John pods by plugging them in. To overcome the lack of electricity in the past, Hoagie recruits the help of Benjamin Franklin and Dr. Fred's ancestor, Red Edison, to build a superbattery to power his pod, while also playing some pranks on the other Founding Fathers and trying to sleep with Betsy Ross and change her ideas on the American flag, while Laverne evades capture by the tentacles long enough to run an extension cord to her unit, having to pose as a tentacle and use a mummy as a prop human to win a talent contest for “pet humans" and then instigating a riot by imprisoned humans to distract all of the tentacle guards. The three send small objects back and forth in time through the Chron-o-Johns and make changes to history to help the others complete their tasks.

Eventually, Bernard uses Dr. Fred's family fortune of royalties from Maniac Mansion to purchase a real diamond, while also evading a pair of inept FBI agents who have arrived to arrest Dr. Fred for tax evasion and ransack the mansion for valuables, and both Laverne and Hoagie manage to power their Chron-o-Johns, and the three are reunited in the present. Purple Tentacle arrives, hijacks a Chron-o-John and takes it to the previous day to prevent them from turning off the sludge machine; he is pursued by Green Tentacle in another pod. With only one Chron-o-John pod left, Bernard, Hoagie and Laverne use it to pursue the tentacles to the previous day, while Dr. Fred uselessly tries to warn them of using the pod together, referencing the film The Fly. Upon arriving, the trio exit the pod only to discover that they have been turned into a three-headed monster, their bodies merging into one during the transfer. Meanwhile, Purple Tentacle has used the time machine to bring countless of versions of himself from different moments in time to the same day to prevent the Sludge-o-Matic from being deactivated. Bernard and his friends defeat the Purple Tentacles guarding the Sludge-o-Matic, turn off the machine and prevent the whole series of events from ever happening. Returning to the present, Dr. Fred discovers that the three have not been turned into a monster at all but have just gotten stuck in the same set of clothes; they are then ordered by Dr. Fred to get out of his house. The film ends with the credits rolling over a tentacle-shaped American flag, one of the more significant results of their tampering in history.

PLOT OVERVIEW: An adaptation of the 2008 video game of the same name, chronicling the comical battle of the title character in her fight against the evil INKT empire, hellbent on ridding the world of color.

NOTE: The animation is slightly paper-man esque, but every frame has the feeling of being hand painted rather than being hand drawn. There's a surreal, wild tone throughout.

Spoiler

A siren blares, and we are introduced to the robotic Pinky (Sher) who hovers through a messy treehouse to find the sleepy chomator herself, known only as de Blob (Robbie). Waking her up and informing her that they have another cry for help, Blob throws herself together and takes the launch pad. She rushes to a large catapult that will take her to the people in need. As she launches, Blob notices the audience. Seeing how they will arrive in about 100 minutes, it’s a perfect time to introduce her and tell the audience about her latest adventure. (Pinky is baffled, unable to see the audience while flying next to De Blob).

We cut to two months before in Chroma City, a bustling metropolis of color and delight, populated by anthropomorphic but abstractly shaped Raydians. Through a panning shot through the city and its several districts, it seems unanimously happy and joyous…from a first glance. There’s a good bit of poverty and color-based class system (The red/blue/yellow primarians are the top of the social ladder, while the orange/green/purple/brown mixers are at the bottom, thought to be impure and disorderly). As a whole, we see that the Primarians look down upon the Mixers, despite the fact that mixers form 75% of the city’s population. One Green Mixer, Arty (Taylor), rushes to her job as a (poorly paid) underling at the red Mayor Schetchi (Tompkins)’s office. Widely loved across the city, he puts on a good face, even working with Mixers!

However, much of his front is largely PR based. We see that during a staff meeting, he will readily listen to primarian advice from even a blue senior citizen (Who accidentally happened to wander into the office), but not even his mixer associates. Arty, going to her tiny offices, has massive dreams for a city wide project to help the town’s woes, dreaming of becoming the first Mixer Mayor of the city and ending Chroma City’s systemic inequality. However, bad luck and coincidences keep getting in her way, making it agonizing to even bring Mayor Schetchi (pronounced Seh-chee, not like ‘sketchy’ as he likes to say) a cup of coffee.

*We see this through a musical montage and minimal dialogue.*

Similarly struggling is the buff, gruff, yet adorkable orange Bif (Jackson Jr.) who works as an amateur magician. He manages to land a prominent gig for a fairly rich primarian family’s birthday party, but the kids only laugh at him humiliating himself. The brown Prof (Neill), who rides around in a levitating chair, actually is fairly well treated for being a Mixer, probably because of his impressive work and tenure at  Chroma City University. The students (many of whom are mixers) admire him, albeit more so than other professors, who might simply be jealous. The blue, petite Zip (Chen), however, is an excitable fireball and zooms around the city, rushing back home to get to the TV.

We find out that Zip, Arty, Bif, and Prof all live together. Zip is best friends with Arty and Bif, not to mention a child prodigy who worked with Prof. They all live in a hilariously cramped apartment but form a makeshift, loving family. Zip is excited to watch “The Awesome Adventures of De Blob,” The Polychromatic hero who can change colors on a dime and fight evil forces plaguing the world of color. Zip believes that “he” is real, and that he wants to meet him someday. Arty herself wants “this blob folk” to give Schetchi a piece of his mind. They bond over dinner but soon go to bed. (They all sleep within feet of each other due to lack of space)

That night, Arty and Zip are awoken by a strange sound. A few large ships seem to be coming from the sky! Arty pushes Zip down as they hide from the window. As they hear screaming…they realize it’s probably time to escape. Bif is a very deep sleeper, only awoken by Zip telling him that he got a gig in Greeno, and he wakes up excitedly. After being annoyed that Zip lied to him, the screams get louder. “Okay I’m starting to get it more,” Bif admits.

We see jet black, starfish-like soldiers (with camera discs for eyes) falling from the ships (A few getting comically stuck on gargoyle like statues) and attacking the streets. Gunships shoot balls of fuming ink at the buildings below, stripping them of all color. Prof, remembers, however, that the university has a secret safe house hidden underground. Prof would go there and cry to himself when he was completing his PhD. Traveling through an airway tube in a cartoonish fashion, they make it to the safehouse, finding several other gradians there.

Back above ground, the inkies (of the INKT empire) continue their all-out takeover of Chroma City, removing all color and arresting any radians they can find. We are introduced to their leader, Comrade Blanc (Grant, his voice pitch ridiculously increased), a diminutive[CMS1]  yet furiously stern leader. His lead scientists Dr. Palene (Baranski) informs him that Chroma City will be another swimming success. The atrocity and chaos of color will be wiped from the world once and for all. Her latest device will turn the Chroma City residents into gray, soulless drones, known only to her as…..Graydians. She spent over two hours coming up with that. Blanc is excited, but fears that rebels may have escaped. They need to find them all and crush them.

Back in the hide out, Zip eagerly crafts a homing device that will send a help signal to an island far away, hoping to get help from De Blob. Prof tells him that he’s only a fictional character, but Zip insists that he’s real. Arty, seeing the other raydians scared of being found out, tries to cheer them up and promises that they can try to fight back. The Primarian Faculty hiding in the base try to undermine her and take charge, but Arty finds a stockpile of color-based weapons (including paint shooting guns) in a nearby room. However, a blast from above causes debris to fall and block off the path to the weapons room. Arty feels dejected.

As the graydians humorously bicker over how to get out and fight the inkies (all coming up with ridiculous plans animated in varying art styles), ignoring Arty’s actually solid ideas, they are soon found out by the Inkies. Everyone is terrified, preparing for death. Bif tries to cast a spell, but Prof promises that he isn’t a real magician. “IT’S IN MY BLOOD! IT’S AN INSTINCTUAL REACTION!!” Bif remarks. They are pulled out of the ground and about to be shot by an ink cannon but look around and see the grayness take over their city, the main four feeling a bit depressed.

Just in time…..De Blob and Inky arrive! De Blob effortlessly fights back against the Inky squadron, pouncing on them and barfing paint at their devices. (The Inkies scream at the sight of this color, and a few simply run away in horror). However, more inkies arrive to take over a few of the hideaways, although Arty, Bif, Zip, and Prof make it out safely. They are all stunned to see De Blob in person, though Zip soon remarks, “I thought you were a boy.” De Blob simply retorts that “Gender doesn’t really matter, kid.”

Using Inky’s airlift (her carrying them all), they arrive at a small island outside Chroma City to turn into a resistance base – it’s not much, but it’ll have to do. The four, introducing itself as the Color Underground, vows to help De Blob in taking back Chroma City. With this island, they have the painting tools they need, but wit De Blob’s strength, they might have a chance to take back the city. Blob remarks that she’s dealt with the Inkies in countless other situations. She could fight them off in her sleep if she wanted to, but the extra help wouldn’t hurt. They begin to take stock in what the situation in the city is.

Meanwhile, we see several graydians being ushered out by INKT police forces, as Comrade Blanc watches from above. He looks over the wonderful city, in glee of how the new population is going to look in its grayer, purer form. Now everyone can truly be the same! Blanc is very excited and cheerful, but Palene reports that at least 4 raydians escaped. Blanc laughs, remarking that he never expected to get every last one. What are they capable of? Thing is…. they didn’t escape alone. Blanc looks over video footage, fast forwarding past INKT soldiers goofing around to see very loose footage of De Blob. Blanc is completely flabbergasted and almost enraged. “What is she doing here?!?! No matter. We know how to take her down.” Blanc walks past large vats of ink, smiling evilly.

After a few moments of learning about De Blob, it becomes clear that she doesn’t really know where she came from. She’s just come to accept that she can absorb color and transfer it anywhere. She’s like a living, breathing, paintbrush. She boops the four CU members and gives them clown like noses in paint. Pinky, it turns out, has a solid map of the city, finding that the Sports District has the lowest ratio of INKT occupation to potential revolutionaries. It’s a perfect spot to strike first.

We see a few scenes of graydian sports fans unenthusiastically playing football in the stadium, none able to throw the ball more than a few inches. It’s really not a good sight. However, one graydian looks outside of the stadium and sees what looks like a ball of paint rushing around the area, bringing color to the buildings again. More and more graydians take notice. De Blob rolls through the streets and paints the buildings by touching them, while the CU patrols the stadium, realizing no INKT members are inside. “All clear, Blob! Do your thing!,” Zip tells her. De Blob rushes into the stadium and dashes through the crowds and players. As She rushes through, their graydian forms are whittled away, and they become back to their old, raydian-selves.  Enthusiastic, the CU members guide the liberated raydians out of the stadium towards the subway tunnels (which will lead them to the island).

However, Blanc instantly takes notice of these rebels and begins to feel a deep rage. “KILL THAT BLOB AT ONCE!!” INKT suddenly overwhelm the area, but Blob feels no sweat at all. Blob pounces on the Inky soldiers and takes them out in increasingly humorous and wacky ways (The whole scene is tonally similar to a Benny Hill film) from disguising herself as a Inky and knocking them all over like bowling pins. De Blob seems to having a rockin’ time, putting in no effort at all. From his airship, however, Comrade Blanc prepares to take on De Blob once again.

Blanc: You seem reluctant to ever let me win, but this time it’ll be you who falls!

Blob: Did you not see this big action scene? You’re not off to a good start.

Blanc: The start of all true underdog stories!

Blob: I wouldn’t consider imperialist fascists to be underdogs but hey, you do you.

Blanc: Okay please just die!!!

Blanc’s airship fires ink at De Blob, who is careful to avoid the newly painted buildings. Blob soon gets away as Blanc’s ink is depleting, but Blanc manages one last shot into her arm. Blob panics, rushing to the nearest water source as she begins to shrink. Blanc, thinking he got her, brags as he flies away. He enthusiastically tells Palene about his exploit, who seems more subdued. Palene, however, also remarks that Blob seems familiar in more ways than one.

Meanwhile, cut to Schetchi sailing away on a yacht from Chroma City, calling out for help somewhat un-enthusiastically. He has some funny inner monologuing about how good a mayor he needs to be at this time, but he reaches a beautiful resort island and wonders if anyone there would be willing to help.

Meanwhile, De Blob makes it back to the island Color Underground headquarters, but is small enough to fit in the hands of even Zip, the smallest member. After sitting in paint for a few seconds, she grows back to normal size. “Yeah, gotta avoid ink. Otherwise, I’m good to go!” We find out that several raydians followed De Blob and want to join the resistance. De Blob can shift to any an all colors easily, much to the awe of all the raydians. However, De Blob’s presence largely overshadows the CU core, but they understand.

As more time passes, we begin to see more and more of De Blob’s sharp and witty takeover of the city. However, as more time progresses, the island starts to get even more populated with raydian rebels, and they all seem willing to help out. Arty, in particular, takes on a larger role in creating strategies, knowing the city super well, while Prof bonds with Pinky over incoherent technobabble. Zip, on the whole, is a powerful scout for the resistance, able to move with lightning fast speed and scout out INKT locations and camps. Bif, however, is still unable to use his magic to fight off the inkies, shot down by fellow resistance members. Blob, on the other hands, keeps prominence as the face of the resistance, even as the CU members are doing a lot of the work.

Things change, however, as they take back the theater district of the city. (By this point, Blanc is beginning to panic severely, calling in for reinforcements more than ever before and making more and more hilariously brash decisions) After their successful mission, De Blob calls to the resistance to celebrate Arty, Bif, Prof, and Zip, who have been working with them from the start. There is some dissent from the few primarian resisters, but they are quickly crushed by the loud cheers from the crowd. The CU and Blob feel like a truly united team, treating each other as equals.

That night, the CU and Blob continue to bond, wile Arty shows Blob her dreams of becoming mayor. Blob is legitimately impressed and will put in a good word, or at least, try her best. They hug. Blob, however, remarks that she worries about how strong she is, and if she can truly defeat INKT or simply keep them on the run. She’s tired to constantly doing this routine and just wants to be able to live a freer life. Meanwhile, Prof, Bif, and Zip mingle with fellow members of the resistance, noting, however, that Mayor Schetchi has been MIA since the INKT siege had taken over. They shrug it off, remarking that it’s unlikely anyone will really miss home.

Comrade Blanc is not taking the losses well. Actually, that’s an understatement. He’s fuming in an over the top way, throwing any bit of furniture he can find in the INKT headquarters. Palene has news for him, but waits to tell him because his tantrum is hilarious to watch. Palene has new information on De Blob that he should know. It turns out that it is actually a failed prototype created by INKT – a creature designed to spread ink across the land quickly. While it is weak to ink in its current form, it can be modified so that it can instead be the very thing it was supposed to fight. Blanc is awe struck, remaking that they can still pull this off and be the little guys who won. As he laughs, Palene tells him that they really shouldn’t think of themselves as the plucky underdogs.

The next day, there’s more to take on. Prof, however, tells Blob that they can take the recoloring. Blob just needs to focus on the inkies. A huge crowd of raydians, (90% of whom are Mixers) take to the streets with brushes and balloons in hand, ready to reclaim their city. Blob excitedly leads the charge. It seems like all is going well until Blob sees the CU members in danger. Pinky suspects that it might be a trap, but Blob isn’t willing to take the chance. After helping them, De Blob finds that they are merely ragdolls that look like the CU members. Pinky called it. Blob is soon captured by Palene, who soon performs a procedure on De Blob. “This won’t hurt a bit. It’ll hurt….a lot!”

Arty panics about how she can’t find De Blob, but Bif tries to cast a spell to reveal his location. Arty rolls her eyes, assuring him that it won’t work. Suddenly, they see a silhouette of De Blob come towards them. They are excited, but soon find out that De Blob had been completely taken over by INKT, turning into a gigantic ball of ink with the camera like eyes other inkies have. The raydians rush to cover while De Blob indiscriminately decolors the entire city, putting them back almost at square one. Blob soon has the four CU members cornered. Pinky tries to contain hum, but Blob smacks her away, and she lands on a billboard.

Comrade Blank goes up to tell them that De Blob was truly an INKT weapon, and that she was never going to save them, ordering De Blob to kill them once and for all. Blob, however, cannot bring herself to do it, instead moving further into the ocean and floating away. “Well, either way, you’re pretty much doomed,” Blanc tells the four-color underground members. They frown at each other, but Zip sees the dummies that tricked De Blob. As Blanc corrals them to be turned into Graydians, Zip tricks him into taking the ragdolls instead, thinking that they are the real CU members.

Either way, The four members awkwardly hide out in the island alone, bored and hopeless, while De Blob escapes to a nearby island, hiding in shame. Her camera eyes come off in the water, but she’s become powerless. Pinky tries to cheer her up, resorting to mocking her (in an attempt to get Blob’s emotional fury to rise up) to get some sort of reaction. Blob, deep down, wanted to bring color and joy to the world, but she’s only fit to be a monster. Pinky gets Blob a few drinks, causing her to realize they are on a resort island.

Blob, de-inked because of the water and now diminutive in size, explores the resort, surprised to see many of the Primarians from Chroma City relaxing in paradise. This world seems heavenly, a perfect place to hide after bailing on their city. At the center of it is Mayor Schetchi, who doesn’t care one bit about the Inkies…. unless of course they come to this island! Blob calls him out on this with an epic curse out (with PG alternatives to curses), soon apologizing for her colorful language. Her point stands, however.

Blob also finds a band performing on the island, The Rainbow Mix (Cameo by Little Mix) who are huge fans of De Blob. They show Blob to their favorite hangout spot on the island, which is a secret room filled with paint springs! Blob jumps into the paint and returns to her old self, feeling excited and rejuvenated. Blob is ready to get back into action, having missed her old self. As she rambles to herself, The Rainbow Mix members are somewhat baffled. Back at the Chroma City Island, Arty refuses to give up, but needs to find a way to bring everyone back together so they can all charge INKT’s occupation together. Bif recites a spell to bring the remaining raydians back to the island, and much to the surprise of everyone…it works!

A large portal opens up, and several raydians fall out in an awkward pile. However, it’s a massive sign of hope. Bif himself remarks that he told them he had magical capabilities; they should have let him use them. Prof gets way too confused about the logistics of magic in this world, but nonetheless needs to get the rebels ready for their last stand. Arty rallies the crowd, while Zip removes them from the pile so they can get back on their feet.

Blob, Pinky, and The Rainbow Mix raid a private jet from the island (most of the Priamrians stay put) as they head over to take on the INKT empire once and for all. Blob is worries that she will lose control again, but Pinky promises that she will not let that happen. The people are united and ready to fight alongside her. INKT, unfortunately, is also prepared for the attack, getting their forces ready. Palene also has several devices ready to strike at De Blob in an effort to revert her to her inky state, as well as other blobs in that form already.

The epic battle soon begins, with more comical and wacky fighting in the spirit of the people rising up. Arty and the rest of the CU is excited to see De Blob again, while Bif is able to keep using his magic to keep the Inkies at bay. Blob, knowing the determination and support she has with her friends, is able to dodge the devices that will turn her into her inky form. Rainbow Mix also helps out, fusing their color power and music to keep the inky soldiers off their guard. The only challenge, however, comes from facing off with the other blobby creatures. Comrade Blanc believes that he has her cornered, but as he spends 2 minutes gloating, we find out in that time, De Blob defeated all of the other inky blobs!

Soon, INKT begins to retreat, and the resistance begins to celebrate. However, Blob tells them that the fight isn’t over. She has what she needs to defeat INKT once and for all, not just sending them running. “I want to feel like a true hero, and this is the way!” Arty, Prof, Zip, and Bif want to join Blob, but Blob remarks that they need to stay down here, insisting that though they’re in it to the end, it’s a sacrifice that she alone must make. Blob soon rambles, as Arty cuts her off as she rambles, assuring her that it makes sense why they need to ensure nothing bad happens on land. Blob shrugs as they wish her luck. Pinky however, tries to get out of helping due to her fear of space. Blob drags her along.

Blob and Pinky soon arrive on the INKT fleet in air, as Blob makes her way past Inky guards very easily, soon making her way towards Comrade Blanc and finishing him off once and for all. Blanc, however, has several armed guards waiting for her and is ready to attack all out. Blob is able to handle it all, but she’s soon almost turned back into the “ink blob.” Pinky, however, tries to bring Blob back to her normal self, creating a light show of color with her robotic projections. After some time, it seems like Blob has become full inky once again. Pinky looks on with dejected despair as it seems like Chroma City will fall for real this time.

However, Blob was just faking it the whole time, removing her disguise and taking out all of INKT’s forces easily (with Pinky’s help of course). Blanc is completely left cowering, revealing himself in person to de Blob for the first time after speaking exclusively through computer monitors. Blob simply flicks him, and he’s shot out into the vacuum of space, promising revenge. “I’m still the underdog! For real this time. I’m extremely unlikely to get out of this. But if I do, you will pay, blob!!!” Blob remarks how unlikely that is. “I just said thaaaaat,” Blanc shouts as he falls out of the atmosphere.

Blob uses her refurbished paint power to take over the INKT fleet and – in one epic wave – restore all color to Chroma City and several other locales in the planet. The populace cheers for their liberation, getting rid of all INKT equipment once and for all, replacing it with murals and figures of De Blob. The Primarian elites return as Schetchi tries to take back the mayor’s office. However, the town turns on him after essentially abandoning them in their time of need. A Mixer mayor takes over, and Arty soon take on a larger role in leadership. It was silly to expect to be mayor with limited experience, but she’s taking the steps to ensure a more equal society.

Meanwhile, Bif becomes a legendary magician in the city, while Prof’s classes become even more widely attended, soon becoming Dean of the university. Zip keeps making friends, sending letters to De Blob to keep updating him on life in Chroma City. Blob, realizing that with the threat of INKT gone, she can finally relax, comes to an epiphany. And it’s one she lands on right as we get back to the present framing device from the beginning. It turns out that Blob is flying to the one-year anniversary of her saving Chroma City. Blob is finally free to have her own life, and she wants to stay in Chroma City with her new friends. She makes it to the docks, where Arty, Bif, Zip, and Prof are waiting. They cheer as De Blob accidentally lands on the four of them. “We’re okay!” They shout.

The credits are set to a stylistic retelling of events in the movie, set to the song "Rainbow Mood" by Little Mix and Stevie Wonder.

Spoiler

We open in a metropolitan city dubbed Cliff City as we see a robbery in progress at some sort of lab by the suave and rather deadpan Professor Vilesworth, sporting a purple and green jumpsuit, a white lab coat and a ninja like mask. Using poisonous and corrosive gas to make his way into the security system and defenses as well as his stealthy almost snake like strikes against the security guards, he makes it inside to the main computer room as he downloads the contents via a flash drive, showing dangerous weapons.

Thankfully, he is stopped by his archenemy, Dynamo, a powerful and perky superheroine with super strength, flight and energy manipulation as she flicks a ball of energy destroying the flash drive, commenting that she expected better villainous acts from Vilesworth like blowing up the world or a hostile takeover but piracy is sad for him. Vilesworth smirks replying he’s sad he lost his flash drive as it costed him $200, as he pulls out two green swords laced with venom, whilst he steals the laptop, but notes it’ll be a fun play date.

Dynamo and Vilesworth clash back to back, as energy blasts and swordplay collide. Vilesworth then escapes knowing full well he can’t beat her and he has places to be. Dynamo agrees as jail has a nice warm cell for him. Vilesworth sprays some smoke as he escapes via a helicopter but Dynamo dispels the smoke as the two get into aerial chase throughout the city as Vilesworth fires machine guns but Dynamo causes the bullets to explode in mid air before collision. Dynamo retrieves the flash drive but Vilesworth escapes using his lab coat as a glider and setting the helicopter to explode near a hospital which Dynamo is forced to stop.

The boisterous yet good meaning Commissioner Drake as well as the citizens thank Dynamo but she insists she must leave. We then humorously see Dynamo and Vilesworth on a split screen switching into their civilian identities (Mei Yang and Nathaniel Wilkes), freshening up and dressing in date attire as the two meet at a fancy restaurant.

Mei and Nathaniel are revealed to be long term boyfriend and girlfriend, unaware of their superhero/villain alter egos. Both apologize for being late as Mei explains she had overtime reporting whilst Nathaniel understands as he was doing important lab work. The two talk about their day while leaving out the important details, poke fun of other couples (Nathaniel makes jokes about the secrets each of them hide, saying the woman to left is a kidnapper whilst the man behind him is cheating on the girl’s sister… and brother) and flirt with one another.

The couple then goes ice skating as we cut to a montage as Rick Astley’s Never Gonna Give You Up plays. https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ

In the montage

We see the couple bonding as Nathaniel gets Mei the best gifts he can for work and for herself, most of which humorously he stole.

Mei teaches the ironically clumsy Nathaniel on how to ice skate

Dynamo and Vilesworth clash in multiple fights with Dynamo usually thwarting him as the two engage in vitriolic yet playful banter (we even get a joke for the time Vilesworth does get captured, it’s a paid and brainwashed actor).

Mei proposing to Nathaniel as he leaps into her arms bridal style

A vicious rooftop fight between Dynamo and Vilesworth which cuts to Mei and Nathaniel getting married and proceeding into a rough PG-13 makeout/semi-coitus session

However overtime we see the couple slowly grow apart due to their secret lives as both barely make it home in time undisguised.

5 years later, we see the two have left their apartment and moved into a nice luxurious home in the suburbs. Mei has become pregnant and promoted to head of The Beat, her newspaper company while Nathaniel is a chairman at EVA Enterprises, a Google like business lead by the benevolent philanthropist Eva Eaken. However despite their more affluent life, the two have drifted apart despite still loving each other due to their secret alter egos and work.

Nathaniel has an anniversary dinner planned for them tonight after work. Mei is excited as the two each head to work, as Mei heads to The Beat but is rather unfocused despite handling her work well as suddenly Mark Masterson, the deliveryman and a secret identity of a motormouth superhero speedster Mach Mark. Both being great friends, Mei wants to do something special for Nathaniel and asks for advice on what to get as Mark suggests Dr. Who which Nathaniel is a huge fanboy. Mei questions on whether or not to tell Nathaniel that she’s Dynamo which Mark disagrees as their identity is the one asset they have against evil. Mark gleefully admits he was dying to say a hero speech like that as Mei sadly agrees.

We then cut to Nathaniel at work, as he goes through the motions delivering smarmy charm and quick wit as he is called in by Eva for an investors meeting. The two head on the elevator as the head to a secret meeting room full of screens as we get a bird’s eye view of all the city’s villains, all in civilian identities nonetheless; the aloof and cold hearted Chill with ice powers as a therapist, the boisterous stand up comedian Laugh Riot who has a laugh so infectious it cause others to uncontrollably laugh and freeze, and the bulky construction worker yet strongest being on the planet Kong-O.

Eva aka The Empress plans to create an ultimate plan to control the planet but need to retrieve the latest copy of her special virus dubbed Sunflower which causes rapid cell degeneration and the more medical care treated, the more potent Sunflower becomes. As Sunflower spreads to be an epidemic she’ll give the antidote to the populace for millions and become loved and worshipped even more. The Empress says Sunflower is stored in a briefcase, and will need everyone tonight. Nathaniel agrees but wants to do it after 9:30, maybe 10:00 pm, as The Empress reluctantly agrees as it’s still in their window of time but warns them not to fail her. As the call ends, The Empress warns Nathaniel not to get to attached as Nathaniel retorts that’s his wife. The Empress then fires back that he should’ve told Mei his double life.

Nathaniel fondly remembers the night he and Mei meet as a flashback shows during a scuffle with Dynamo, the two met at a club to celebrate and skulk respectively until they saw each other and hit it off. Nathaniel then decides to take the hard drive for himself to build his own organization.

Later the night, the dinner goes off well until Mei gets an urgent call from Mark. Mark reveals after doing some recon, that he has noticed activity from the villains and that they need Dynamo which she reluctantly agrees as she fakes sick. Mei and Nathaniel are forced to cut off their date sadly but not before Mei gives him a boxset of his favorite show, Dr Who as Nathaniel gives her a pair of diamond earrings. As they kiss goodnight, they rush off to the warehouse.

Dynamo and Mach Mark dressed in a silver and blue jumpsuit, meet up with the stoic goddess Cairo who can summon the power of the Egyptian gods and the black hawk like Batman suited hero Nighthawk. As Nighthawk leads the charge, the heroes ambush the villains, Chill flings ice at Mach Mark who barely dodges, Nighthawk using his gadgets hold his own against Kong-O, Cairo uses Ptah’s power to craft headphones for her team as she takes on Laugh Riot.

Vilesworth makes it into the computer room and grabs hold of the briefcase, but suddenly Dynamo appears and chases Vilesworth as the two fight throughout the building but Vilesworth gains the upper hand and subdues her with immobilizing toxins but notices Dynamo’s earrings as he realizes Dynamo is Mei which Mei puts together that Vilesworth is Nathaniel. The two are stunned but are forced to make an escape as Kong-O caused an explosion as they escape in Vilesworth’s car. The heroes arrest Kong-O but Chill and Laugh Riot escape.

The two have an intense argument about the others keeping secrets as the two change back into the alter egos as well as what happened. The two discuss what to do next as Mei insists on disposing of Sunflower or giving it to her associates as Nathaniel refuses as his associates will come after them, and that at anytime The Empress can enact the virus, causing it to spread rapidly, and they need to run and hide. Mei vehemently refuses as Nathaniel agrees to his wife’s demands but not before Mei insists he’ll be sleeping on the couch tonight and need to have a long talk about their relationship.

As Chill and Laugh Riot return to Eva and inform her about Vilesworth missing and Sunflower stolen from them before they can steal it as Laugh Riot chuckles to himself about them getting their goods stolen when they are the villains as Chill freezes his mouth to shut him up. Eva then ensures her comrades that she knows the city and first thing tomorrow, kill Nathaniel and retrieve the virus but most importantly don’t Let the virus loose as Eva notes it is her last batch and most lethal dose.

The next morning, after an awkward breakfast as Mei decides to entrust Sunflower with her fellow heroes, the news revealed Eva leaked the identity of Vilesworth, exposing Nathaniel’s alter ego in a press release to gain sympathy and notify authorities, much to the couples’ horror. Before they can react, Chill and Laugh Riot break in the home as Laugh Riot immobilizes the both of them by using his laughing power but before Chill can kill Nathaniel and retrieve the device, Nathaniel tells Mei to turn off the remote.

The TV then turns into a mini turret which allows them time to escape as the house turns into the ultimate self defense machine as the two escape in Nathaniel’s jet powered car. Chill uses her ice bending as Laugh Riot hijacks a car, not before setting their house to explode.

Mei attempts to go fight but Nathaniel knowing how important her identity is, insists she use the defensive systems, as he tries to evade Laugh Riot. As the couple bicker and banter as Mei tries to find something non-lethal as Nathaniel retorts its a villain car, Mei manages to knock Chill away from the city using expired knockout gas which causes Chill to fly away as the two head to the sewers as the car turns amphibious.

Meanwhile back at police department, Drake upon learning Nathaniel’s identity orders Cairo, Mach Mark and Nighthawk to apprehend Nathaniel but decides to also be wary for Dynamo as Nathaniel is her husband and is too close to the mission. Eva also pays bail for Kong-O for extra firepower as the villains begin their chase.

After escaping into sewers, Mei and Nathaniel flow through a series of canals as they enter Nathaniel’s secret hideout, an abandoned sewage treatment facility. Mei jokes that it surprisingly doesn’t smell like shit as Nathaniel says he has a cleaning team every week, and he may be a villain but not a monster.

Mei asks Nathaniel what’s his plan as Nathaniel explains they need to lay low as not only his colleagues after him but more likely Mei’s crime fighting friends as Nathaniel types on a computer. Nathaniel suggests selling Sunflower or hiding it and running away as Mei points out it’d likely create a bigger villain as Nathaniel says he’s out of non monetary or safe ideas. Mei asks Nathaniel if their relationship mattered to him as Nathaniel assured her he has always loved her as the camera shows his hideout wallpapered with anti-Dynamo memorabilia. Nathaniel notes that Eva won’t stop until he is dead as Mei suggests why not find an anti tide as if Eva was going to mass produce the antivirus to her consumers, they could cancel each other out as Nathaniel loves the idea as he notes they need an extraordinary hacker and knows a guy but they need to go to Los Angeles and find EVA’s warehouse as he notes it isn’t in the city as it’s too obvious and Eva doesn’t even tell Nathaniel her warehouse location.

Mei agrees but tells Nathaniel after this, he must quit his villainous lifestyle which Nathaniel agrees to. Nathaniel does note he needs disguises as he is a wanted man and it’s good Mei has a disguise too in case as Nathaniel shows her his prototype masks which alter their faces to make them a bit more unrecognizable (makeup is used to achieve this).

The two fly to Los Angeles as they reach a hideout full of criminals as Nathaniel explains that these may not be supervillians but dangerous scumbags and criminals as the two enter a secret bar and casino. After attempts to sound tough by Mei, the two meet Grimes, a savvy street smart 18 year old thief and hacker. Nathaniel explains that despite Grimes’ age, she is apparently the best hacker on the dark web. Grimes asks for payment as Nathaniel attempts to grab his wallet as Grimes holds up the couple’s wallets.

However, the casino soon learns of Nathaniel’s true identity as well as Grimes who has pickpocketed them. Grimes make a deal that if they protect her, she’ll do it for free. Mei then throws a guy back with an energy blast into a jukebox as Miss Independent plays. Nathaniel uses his hand to hand skills as well as toxic arsenal as Mei uses her energy blasts and super strength whilst saving each other and dancing to the music, sharing some moments of closeness and passion lost long ago.

The moment is ruined by Grimes who escorts them to her apartment as she helps them find the hideout through chemical tracking as Mei and Nathaniel head out to lunch as the two have a date out on the town (having lunch, walking on the beach, a bike race that causes a humorous collision) for the first time in a while as Nathaniel explains the truth that he went into crime mainly to pay for college, orphaned at youth but found a knack of combining his skills with evil, as Nathaniel lies that the virus was his last score. Mei feels some sympathy having coming for a hard household of abuse but became a hero to help others and motivate herself. Nathaniel admits he could’ve done way better than his life choices although villainy has its fun.

Mei and Nathaniel though are confronted by Mach Mark, Cairo, and Nighthawk who have came to arrest Nathaniel as Mei explains the situation to them but have a job to arrest Nathaniel and order Mei to step aside. The two attempt to run away from the heroes as Mei defends her husband, however they’re too outmatched by the stronger heroes until Nathaniel has an idea and lures the battle to public space at a state fair and tells Mei to be a bit more reckless, despite her uncertainty as she distracts the heroes in order to by them time to get away.

The two make it back to Grimes and the virus and find the location is hidden in distant woods of Canada as the two take the jet car as they reach Eva’s hidden lab but are stopped by a state of the arts defense system as they evade lasers and booby traps. Upon reaching the last entrance, they’re ambushed by Kong-O, Chill and Laugh Riot as well as Eva via a video screen room, learning both Dynamo was Mei which surprised her and reveals Nathaniel wanted to start his own empire. Mei is angry as she thought Nathaniel was changing.

The villains attempt to capture and kill the two but Nathaniel fires blinding power to temporarily disable them and swipe the antidote but are caught in the warehouse’s almost labyrinth like design. Chill uses her ice powers to ensnare them as Dynamo retaliates by breaking the ice as Vilesworth beats her. Dynamo and Vilesworth manage to confuse Kong-O by using a bit of blinding powder into beating Laugh Riot into submission as they barely make it to the escape exit but notices only one pod for one person to escape in only.

Mei infects herself with the virus and gives Nathaniel the antidote as she’s more likely to hold them off the longest as she’s more powerful. Nathaniel refuses as Mei doesn’t give him a choice and closes off the escape route and sends an escape pod coordinates as she holds off Chill, Kong-O and Laugh Riot but is eventually defeated. Eva decides to extract the virus from Mei only after she’s at the final stages and near death, so Mei would die anyways as they capture her

Nathaniel, crashing in the forest is ambushed by the heroes who have tracked them down as Nathaniel glumly explains Mei was captured and is dying. Nighthawk decides to lead a rescue mission as Nathaniel offers a deal with the heroes to save Mei and stop Eva in exchange for his arrest. Nighthawk doesn’t trust him but both Cairo and Mach Mark buy his story. Nathaniel gives Nighthawk the antidote as the two head back a mass produce a huge amount of the antidote in case.

Back with the villains as Mei is slowly succumbing to Sunflower, and is in the final stages, Eva extracts a small part of Sunflower at its most potent and begins the replication process as the machine will go live and spread Sunflower throughout the city. Chill asks to kill her as she is still dazed from the gas as Eva declines as Mei is useless anyways as the virus has caused paralysis and Dynamo can watch as her city crumbles.

Suiting up as Vilesworth one more time, Nathaniel leads them through the plan, which involves them causing a distraction whilst Vilesworth frees and cures Mei as Vilesworth correctly guess Eva wouldn’t let Mei live as Dynamo.

As the heroes and villains collide, Vilesworth narrowly makes his way through the security system and reaches Mei and injects the antidote but it seems Mei has died. Vilesworth apologizes for being a shitty husband and vows to be a better man, as he cries. After a minute, Mei regains mobility and smirks and notes he looks cute when crying as the couple embrace. The two decide to stop keeping secrets and work together to destroy the machine but are stopped by Eva donning a mech suit ala Luthor’s suit from the comics dubbed Empress Ultimate.

The two work together using Mei’s energy blasts and Nathaniel’s swordsmanship and different fighting styles to distract and hold their own against Eva’s Empress Ultimate but fail. Eva decides to kill them both whilst gloating of her victory as Nathaniel points out she didn’t win as Mei says their plan was to just distract. We then see Mach Mark wave to Eva alongside Nighthawk and Cairo holding the defeated villains as Mach Mark disables the machine as Nighthawk administers the antidote into the Sunflower causing the virus to be destroyed.

Eva and her associates are arrested for their crimes and gains 10 consecutive life sentences as Nathaniel is also arrested but gets 5 years due to his help and vouching of all of the superheroes but gets one more weekend with Mei. The two embrace and rush home to have passionate sex. The last day, Mei and Nathaniel share a tearful goodbye.

3 years later, Nathaniel is let out for good behavior and decides to become a crimefighting couple with Mei, as Mei introduces him to their 2 year old daughter, Veronica as the couple share a kiss. Veronica then gains a hiccup fit as the hiccups are surprisingly letting out energy bursts revealing she inherited Mei’s power.

OVERVIEW: A retelling of the controversial event that was 2014's Dashcon.

Spoiler

We open on advertisements on the social networking site Tumblr advertising DashCon (announced as Tumbi-Con in mid-2013), primed to be the site's first ever convention for users. We see guests arrive at the Marriott Renaissance in Schaumburg, IL (just outside Chicago), hundreds in total, ready for a weekend to bond with fellow fans (especially of pre-established geek properties like Harry Potter, Sherlock, Supernatural, and so on) and meet famous guests including actor Doug Jones, artist Noelle Stevenson, and the cast of Welcome to Nightvale. The convention was held July 11-13.

That Friday night, things were already off to a poor start. Minors were being allowed into 18+ panels, vendors were leaving, events were cancelled, and worst of all, per a staff member, they had to pay $20,000 to the hotel immediately. As chaos begins to spiral, we see that things around the con clearly aren't going super smoothly. However, it's time to back up a bit and see how this all began before it spirals into madness.

The first third of the movie focuses on the build up to the con.

We meet some of the organizers of the event, Megan Eli and Roxanne Schwieterman, two tumblr users who wanted to make a convention that would bring users of the site together. They had massive ambitions for the event, including attendance from 3,000+ members, several panels, a room dedicated towards inflatables, vendors, fanart galleries, and more. So many people on Tumblr were excited for the event, and anticipation was rampant. We see several posts from 2013 talking about the conference with amazing excitement. However, such an undertaking would be financially extreme. They had to work with several fandoms to crowd raise funds for the event, from Star Trek to Harry Potter, but all were very excited. The staff, which had four other organizers (Sam, Lochlan, Angela, and Amber) were able to handle the legal issues; they needed the community for financial support.

After organizing panels, volunteers, and clearing things out with Tumblr (who wanted to be clear that this was merely a fan convention - this was not a Tumblr affiliated event), it seemed like it was going to be a dream come true. However, we also get a bit of insight into other people who have thrown popular anime, pop culture, even furry conventions. They talk about the hard work that went into forming their conventions, which was something that the people behind DashCon seemed to underestimate. On top of this, we get a bit more insight into the lives of the six staff members and why they wanted to throw this con.

The second third was the con itself.

And those struggles were clear from that very Friday. Because of financial underestimations on the part of the DashCon staff, or some other form of miscommunication in the contract, the con had to pony up $20k, apparently, due to a difference in the contract indicating payment for the space. Paid up front or paid for by ticket sales? With 1,000 attendees around 9pm CST, they had to work together to pay $17k within one hour. It seemed like that hour was a proud, communal driven event with fans singing Les Miserables together and working to get the money. However, ample suspicion was in the air that this was all a scam, or if they would even hit anything close to 17k. It was a surreal, almost cult like feel, and some of the minors even called their parents to try and go home.

The next day was more chaotic, despite the crisis being averted. They promised to refund people who pitched in the night before, but some speculation was that it would only be for those who paid via paypal. On top of that, the Welcome to Nightvale cast and Noelle Stevenson were informed that, contradicting early knowledge, they would have to pay for their hotel room. WTNV ended up sharing an AirBNB with Stevenson and ultimately cancelling their panel. This caused a great deal of disappointment, as they were one of the headlining guests of the conference. To make it up to fans, they were provided with a few mild concessions, including the now infamous meme of "an extra hour in the ballpit": This ballpit:

That day, the con became even more of a disaster, with memes of its terrible planning going viral, panels falling apart, and prizes for backers being given away indiscrimantly. We still see that the staff was very kind and groups of fans were having a good time in light of the chaos around them, which speaks to the nature of the site and its comraderie perhaps a bit more than the convention itself. While many were quick to attack and mock the staff, more believe that they simply were not prepared for what was to come with such a big undertaking.

However, the staff kept fighting, criticizing the cast of WTNV online and already making preparations for next year's con. Despite the financial troubles (including poor financial communication with vendors), they were ready to learn and move forward, making an announcement as early as that next Friday after the convention. Hotel rooms, timing, vendors, activities, panels, etc. - Everything that could have gone wrong at this convention did.

Finally, we explore the aftermath.

While some reports from outside the convention seemed to be exaggerations, the staff legitimately tried their best, and groups of people did have fun. We see that the organizers, despite their flawed work, are moving on from the incident and adjusting to their current lives. We close out on more of the convention planners talking about the work that goes into planning them, but suggesting that these ideas are not wrong or foolish, but they need a lot of work to take off.
