Solo will always remain a bigger bomb....

For me the more interesting question would have been.... would Solo have done worse than Poppins in the slot Poppins held? Would that have allowed Solo to make up for the cost of shooting the film twice over? And did Iger preventing that slot from being taken by Solo lead to Solo's underperformance.... an underperformance that still made more money than Poppins?

I'm unsure why Deadline gets attention still - you could count on one hand the times they've been even close to accurate about anything in the last 5yrs

Totally here for Illumination collapsing.  Maybe that'll be one of the only good things that comes from this summer.

With an $80m budget it's still going to make money.

But it looks like their shtick might be  running out of gas if the same happens to Sing 2.  They might have to actually invest in screenwriting and pay for better animation to stay in the game instead of relying on cute hooks and a ton of marketing.

But but but...it's for kids! You can't say that. You're just a Pixar fanboy

There's gonna be some biopic 20 years from now called Kevin vs. Ike: Dawn of Justice

It was called Captain America: The First Avenger. He fought Ike aka the “Red Skull”.

Though I do quite like the analogy that Kevin “ built the MCU in a cave in Burbank with a box of scraps” too.

Friday increases seem to be around 50% for everything in Deadline’s update. Pretty muted. Very very ugly numbers for holdovers, except Aladdin. Taking my son to see SLOP2 in a little while. He loved the first one, especially Snowball.

Oh yeah, it'll probably profit.  But I doubt Illumination is thrilled about a 55% drop from opening weekend.  Glad that their shtick seems to be getting tired to the GA.

If they can learn that lesson before they get going on the Mario movie that'd be swell.

SLOP2 should still make it to 145-150 dom with 3-3.1x multi, down from 3.6x of SLOP1.

55% returns on 145-150 give 80+ matching it's prod budget with dom itself.

Just that it's a mammoth drop from SLOP1. Unlike KOTM, which also took a dive from it's predecessor, profitability is not in question here.

Even though he budget is low Illumination spends a ton on marketing. So it could look like a bigger hit than it is if you just look at the budget...

Yep. They tried the same trick on IRON MAN 2 to... less pleasing results.

Justin Theroux from The Leftovers wrote Iron Man 2, which is so weird. What an incredibly interesting, strange career he's had.

It took the evils of the Disney’s Aladdin breaking out, to defeat one of the greatest evil in cinema.

Also from Deadline

GOOD LORD at those Godzilla and Rocketman drops. The former makes sense, but the latter seems ridiculous if true.

I have a hard time believing that Rocketman drop. Weekdays were pretty strong, I don't see why it would just suddenly take a dive today. Guessing the final number is 4M or so. Still, was hoping for some sexy legs on that thing.

any movie that makes it's prod budget dom and starts eating into marketing os cannot not make big money 99% of the time.

no doubt the profits will dive from slop1.
