When I started, I only had Europe's big 4 admissions for original release and UK (gross only), Japan & Australia numbers, which though majority of the box office of the film but wasn't all. Also with no absolute clarity of what gross will be in European countries, it wasn't really helpful. Thankfully I found E.T. country wise numbers and had admissions numbers for Europe with me already, so that helped putting gross numbers for European markets. Also based on how other European countries did for E.T. relatively to Germany, France, Italy and Spain, was able to put gross estimates for rest of Europe. Similarily, got Brazil admissions numbers and estimated its gross taking E.T. reference. Accorded some gross to Latin America and basically left the residue as rest. For Domestic, I got the year wise gross and took NATO average ticket price + 10% as is the case with bigger films having higher ticket price than the average. That gave 124.3mn admissions for 5 years of releases. There is slight possibility that the total gross internationally is $313mn and first run was just $186mn, but I have ignored that for now. After considering all, I have following results. Star Wars had 258mn admits worldwide of which 151mn are from USA/Canada. Star Wars in its initial run had 209mn admits for $518mn gross, E.T. with $723mn should be around 225-250mn at max. Similarily Jaws should be 210-230mn. None of the Star Wars trilogy film even crossed 200mn most probably. Other than these, I don't think there's any other film even coming close to 200mn admits till 1993 Jurassic Park, with The Lion King (1994) coming very close at 193mn. I thought perhaps Independence Day has a chance, but in the end it fell short by some millions. I know that in last few years, there are more expanding markets beyond China, but it is obvious that China, as the 2nd biggest market in the world, has changed everything for WW grosses and attendance. There are old films which were not even released there (today it still happens but it is not very usual for big blockbusters). Joker will be there too. The top 4 will mostly be same but a slight change in order Titanic: 238mn (First run 226mn) Avengers: Endgame: 223mn Avatar: 189mn Avengers: Infinity War: 170mn The Lion King (2019): 166mn Frozen 2: 134mn Furious 7 will be there, surprisingly at 125mn. The Avengers will be around 116mn. LoTR 3 will be 110mn and most likely Fellowship would be around that. Potter 1 may be close to that number as well. ET should be around 120mn. Anyway, I read some time ago that GWTW had been released in just 2 theaters in the whole country (Madrid and Barcelona), and it sold 1 million admissions during about 250 days it was at those 2 theaters. That's some BS. Also GWTW North America numbers are close to 160mn. Europe seems about right. France with 40mn population had 15mn viewers. Germany with 68mn population has 13mn viewers while UK with 50mn population is said to be 35mn but as is case with all BFI numbers, that number is some BS, may be reality was close to 20mn. So in 158mn population countries it had 48mn Approx viewership. Not counting USSR, Europe had 300mn population in 1950s, which shall have the film around 90mn perhaps. Now USSR donno how big it was or whether the film even released there. The problem I am not able to understand is that where did GWTW grossed $200mn internationally. The ATP in Germany was equivalent to 0.45 euro in 1950, which roughly give $7mn Approx gross. Similarily UK I can go at max $12mn using 20mn admissions.
