Did Godzilla just up and die? There's no weekend estimate on Mojo.

Weekeds with public holidays before or after often do not get # from certain distributors or movies. Extremer / better to see e.g. around Christmas / New Year, where it sometimes only during the first Monday after New Year till we get either the first actuals since a time or any numbers (condition: New Year is not at a Monday).

Most of the Sunday estimates were overly optimistic so coming down some is normal and totally in line with 2013 as well as the most normal Sundays in the summer.

That being said, I really hope SM stays over 25m in the actuals.

Even if it falls short of 185 with that Sunday, it's still higher than Spider-Man 2's 180, thus becoming the fastest Spider-Man solo movie yet at the 6 day mark.

I am 81.2% sure this is another Avatar of shiv.

I am glad some people already suspected this. I had my suspicion after his 10 posts or so. His modus operandi is to pitch one thing (superhero e.g CM vs SM; movie/franchise) against another, in an attempt to stir debate/fan wars.

Of all of the films that have opened to $70+ million (121 in total, with 106 of those being Friday openers), Aladdin now joins the top 20 multipliers (among Friday-openers). It’s looking certain that it will join the top 10 best multipliers by the end of its run. (Most of the films in the top 10 are Pixar/animated, in addition to exceptional runs from films like Avatar and Wonder Woman.) Needless to say, this has been a terrific run - especially given that Aladdin's opening weekend was inflated by the Memorial Day long weekend with a Sunday that increased slightly from Saturday.

Best Multipliers Ever for $70+ Million Opening Films (Friday Openers):

  1. Avatar (2009) — 77.0 million (9.73)
  2. Finding Nemo (2003) — 70.3 million (4.84)
  3. Zootopia (2016) — 75.1 million (4.55)
  4. Wonder Woman (2017) — 103.3 million (4.00)
  5. Inside Out (2015) — 90.4 million (3.94)
  6. American Sniper (2015) — 89.3 million (3.92)
  7. Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) — 248.0 million (3.78)
  8. Toy Story 3 (2010) — 110.3 million (3.76)
  9. The Incredibles (2004) — 70.5 million (3.71)
  10. Despicable Me 3 (2017) — 72.4 million (3.65)
  11. Finding Dory (2016) — 135.1 million (3.60)
  12. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012) — 84.6 million (3.58)
  13. The Secret Life of Pets (2016) — 104.4 million (3.53)
  14. The Jungle Book (2016) — 103.3 million (3.53)
  15. Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) — 94.3 million (3.53)
  16. Harry Potter and the Sorceror’s Stone (2001) — 90.3 million (3.52)
  17. Spider-Man (2002) — 114.8 million (3.52)
  18. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013) — 73.6 million (3.51)
  19. Aladdin (2019) — 91.5 million (3.51)
  20. Black Panther (2018) — 202.0 million (3.47)

Peace,

Mike
